Remember the Russian computer shop looking for a unique name and logo? Let us refresh your memory!

A year ago a new retail computer shop with an innovative shopping process, offering a wide range of computer related products, was finding its way to the Moscow market. Its target? Techies (also known as computer geeks :)) or at least those who don’t need a shop assistant to tell them what they need to buy. Designed with an automated buying system, allowing cost savings that translated into lower prices for the end clients, this shop needed an outgoing image.

Discover it!

<img class="imageLink centerImage frameImage" title="ogo! logo" src="http://blog.bootb.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/logo.jpg" alt="ogo logo"width="324" height="124" />

Wow indeed! In case you don’t speak Russian, the name of the recently launched shop is nothing more and nothing less than ogo! – which is the Russian exclamation of surprise. The shop has opened its doors on August 2nd and it already has enthusiastic customers.

<img class="imageLink centerImage frameImage" title="ogo! shop van" src="http://blog.bootb.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ogo_van1.jpg" alt="ogo van"width="400" height="201" />

“We would like to thank BootB one more time for helping us to find this unique and bright brand. We already have a lot of grateful customers and we are very glad to work for them under this brand.” said Maria Yakovleva, Marketing Director.

<img class="imageLink centerImage frameImage" title="ogo! business card&pen" src="http://blog.bootb.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/business-cardpen.jpg" alt="ogo logo"width="400" height="201" />

Friendly and chatty, pixeled in pink tones - that’s the mood with which Dionis, managed to overcome the impersonality of the automated buying system (most probably welcomed by ogo!’s clients :))

<img class="imageLink centerImage frameImage" title="ogo! shopping bags" src="http://blog.bootb.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ogo_shoppers1.jpg" alt="ogo logo"width="400" height="198" />

Curious to see how the shop looks like? Here are a couple of pictures! Soon we’ll show you some other creativity with business impact; till then - have a creative time!

Here is her story!

BootB: Tell us something new about Georgina, something you didn’t write in your BootB public profile.
georgina: Two weeks ago I appeared in the The Times ( national British newspaper) in my friends Illustration. I am often having to get dressed up in different disguises to appear in magazines and newspapers…

What did you want to be when you were a child?
An animator.

What are the most difficult challenges a freelance designer faces in this career?
When I first became a freelancer I struggled to have a constant flow of work. I have only really started this year after I completed my Masters degree in December. It seems to be OK at the moment (fingers crossed).

What’s the best thing about your job? And the worst?
The best thing about my job is the satisfaction that comes from good, effective design along with a pleased client. The worst thing? Late nights!

Describe your style, like a good friend of yours would describe it.
Collage, humourous and fun with a creative approach to narrative.

How did you run across BootB.com?
A friend mentioned it to me.

Which designers, artists or creative people you look up to or are inspired by?
Jonas Odell. Johnny Kelly. Stanley Kubrick. Saul Bass. Terry Gilliam.

What would be your dream project?
I would love to get paid to make a similar film to the one below which I designed during my Masters. I really enjoy using humor in my work as it depicts some of my personality! I have had lots of interest in it and lots of very interesting and promising leads…

GSOH Required from Georgina Ferguson on Vimeo.

What are you most proud of professionally?
I think that I am most proud of the work that I am currently creating. On a day to day basis I am working with a design company to produce design content for a museum in the Middle East. However I have several projects that I am equally proud of that I am working on at home. Some of which I am in the process of pitching for via BootB so I can’t really say too much about them!!

Where would we find you on a typical Saturday morning?
I would like to say something interesting to answer this question but for the past few weeks I have been doing work at home on my computer. Other then that I might be sleeping…or swimming.

So you took part in the London Triathlon 2010! Are you a sporty person in general or how come you decided to participate?
A group of my friends were doing the Triathlon this year and my brother did it last year. I guess I did it for the challenge. I am not normally sporty but I have now invested in a good bike and trainers so I feel like I should use them!

Hope you enjoyed this interview. We will meet new BootB butterflies soon!

Looking for a website design to recall the history of the brand while suggesting its recent re-birth, Vionnet has tapped into the creativity of the BootB Republic.

The most “chic” proposal came from Super_Simo. Her Solution finished first, but other 4 Creators have managed to impress the Brand.

Did it happen to you to slip and trip in the street due to mistreated roads and sidewalks? Well, this is just a minor example of street accident for which you could claim compensation. Based in Rimini, Addari is a professional studio doing all the work for its clients during the accident-claim procedure.

Back in April, Addari came to BootB looking for an efficient local poster campaign to promote its activity. 120 poster ideas were submitted in response, but as usual one stood above all – congratulations marcolucidiud.

Can you imagine a cow crushing your expensive car or a U.F.O landing on your car’s bonnet?

This was exactly the creative direction which convinced Addari: funny, eye catchy and easy to remember :). The campaign is on air so if you don’t have any plans to visit Rimini this summer, here is how the poster looks like!

<a class="imageLink" href="http://blog.bootb.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/onair-version_addariblog.pdf"target="blank">

And here is a preview of the original creative Solution submitted by marcolucidiud.

Freedom is one of our most valued principles but the experience has showed that in order to make the Comments section a useful tool, for both Creators and Brands, it needs a set of rules (horrible word yet sometimes demanded) and a firm hand when the rules are ignored :)

The Pitch Comments section was thought to facilitate direct contact between the Brand behind the Brief and the Creators participating in order to improve the outcome of the Pitch. However the way it is currently used, by Creators on one side and Brands on the other, it hardly brings any satisfaction to none of the two.

Most of that is due to the lack of explanations and guidelines on BootB’s side and we are the first to admit it. While waiting for the September enhanced Comments tab that will give you more freedom of expression, we have decided to establish a set of rules on how to use the current Comments Section so that it boosts the experience of all part involved.
Additionally BootB will post–moderate all comments and remove those which violate the rules stated here below.

Check them out (available in English and Italian)!

Creators

What to write in the Comments section?
∞ Any legitimate question related to the Brief (e.g. further clarifications)
∞ Requests for additional material that might help while working on your Solution (e.g. high resolution logo, product pictures, etc.)

What NOT to write in the Comments section and why?
∞ Comments that are offensive to the Brand, to the other Creators or to BootB.
∞ Direct contact details that disclose the identity*.
∞ Any feedback or technical support request for BootB - from September onwards, the new Comments section will function as a forum and a special thread will be activated for such communication. In the mean time please send such comments to info@BootB.com or post it in reply to one of our blog posts. Publishing them in the Comments section will only give a hard time to those going through it.
∞ Specific feedback for submitted Solutions* – ok, now you have all learned that it will generate an overwhelming chain reaction. The Brand will not be able to cope with them and it will probably stop monitoring the Comments section.
∞ Reasons why your Solution received a Thumbs Down – it just means that the Solution doesn’t work for the Brand. Start creating again from scratch.
∞ Complains about the Budget – should you consider the allocated budget too low, do not participate. Invest your time and your energy only in those Pitches that you find rewarding or at least reasonably paid. Complaining doesn’t help and unfortunately doesn’t change the budget <font color=#f31960">:)
∞ Any other observation that it is not related to the Pitch.

Brands

What to write in the Comments section?
∞ Answers to incoming questions from Creators – through the duration of the Pitch Creators can ask for further clarifications and/or additional materials. Answering to those questions or requests that are legitimate will increase the quality of the Solutions you will receive.
∞ General comments related to the Pitch for the attention of all Creators (e.g. express general concerns like common mistakes.
∞ Specific feedback for specific Solutions without disclosing key elements, names and concepts – should you want to provide specific feedback to certain Solutions among those submitted you are free to do so but without uncovering key elements of the creativity. Please note that it is up to the Creators to incorporate your feedback and submit a fine-tuned Solution.
∞ Additional guidelines and suggestions that might support the Creators while working on their Solutions.

What NOT to write in the Comments section and why?
∞ Requests for direct contact details*.
∞ Detailed description of submitted Solutions that disclose key elements within.
∞ New instructions that alter substantially the objective of the Brief online.

* Why do we insist on not disclosing your identity (that includes signing the submitted Solutions by the way)? Because meritocracy is one of our values. We have built the BootB system in such a way that the Creators’ identity on a submitted Solution is not disclosed to the Brand. This guarantees a level playing field: an art student in New Delhi has the same chance to win as a top agency in New York – it all goes down to the quality of the Solution. Once the winning Solution has been chosen the Brand finds out the nickname of the Creator submitting it and it can access the info available in her/his public profile. Any additional information will be shared with the Brand upon Creator’s approval and the collaboration between the two can continue offline without having BootB involved.

Respecting this set of rules will allow the Comments section to go back to being an essential tool for both Brands and Creators.

BootB Team

Just in case you haven’t seen it yet (hardly probable if you were in Italy recently :), here is the IP spot designed via BootB by lchumpitaz. Great execution!

Curious to know how he did it? He says it all in his recent interview. We’re working on sharing many more winning Solutions with you!

By the way, we’ve noticed some of the Creators new on board are wondering why we are not uncovering all the winning Solutions, so we take the opportunity to explain one more time how does this work.

Before anything we are not an open platform where all submitted Solutions are visible to all Creators or basically any visitor of the website. This guarantees maximum originality in submitted Solutions as Creators cannot inspire themselves from the other proposals and moreover, they can re-use their creativity in the unfortunate case of not winning the Pitch.

OK, so here is how and when we are allowed to disclose the winning Solution:

∞ All IP rights over the winning Solution are tranferred to the Brand. In parallel the budget is wired to the account of the winning Creator.
∞ Most of the Brands prefer not to publicly uncover the creativity until its implementation/production. Sometimes the Solution is used pretty soon after the closure of the Pitch, in other occasions is intended for future projects.
∞ We can only publish the winning Solution in the Blog upon Brand’s approval formalized by signing the “License Agreement” (legal doc allowing us to make the Solution public). As soon as that happens you all get to see it in the BootB blog.

Please note that the same procedure applies to shortlisted Solutions. We contact Creators featuring the shortlist made by the Brand and we ask them to sign the same document, since all IP rights over their Solutions belong to them.

Stay creative and faithful :)

For any doubts you know where to find us (info@bootb.com).

They say “a promise is a debt” and here at BootB we like to pay our dues. A while back, when disclosing the C.O.W winning Solution, we committed to interviewing Aglaia, the designated winner. It is not a first we discover a team behind a BootB username: Kung-Fu Panda, a mushroom and a clean Iggy Pop – this is how Bob, Mariagrazia and Elia describe themselves :)

Probably the most out of the box interview we had so far!

BootB: Rumor has it there were 3 talented Creators behind the winning Solution! Please, introduce yourselves to the rest of the BootB Republic.
Agalaia & Co: Hi, we are Mariagrazia, Elia and Bob. We study Communication Science in Naples. To hide our creative personality, we dress up as normal people and we interpret our alter ego by working.

Elia usually wears a pair of glasses to make himself unrecognizable and works as a barman; Mariagrazia is a babysitter and gives French lessons; Bob gives away double-malt happiness in an Irish pub. All creative jobs. We are, respectively, 25, 21 and 22 years old.

As you can see from our photos, Bob looks like Po from “Kung-Fu Panda” with afro hair, Mary looks like a mushroom and Elia is identical to Iggy Pop before taking drugs.

We know you are all talented. How would you describe yourselves in one word?
Stupidcalifragilisticexpialidocious.

How did you guys find out about BootB?
One of our advertising teachers talked to us about BootB as a chance for us to test our qualities.

What is your definition of creativity?
Creativity is 10% inspiration and 90% transpiration.

How come you decided to work together on the C.O.W Pitch? Was it the first time you teamed up?
We met each other at the university. We immediately understood that we matched mentally and creatively, so we decided to work together. C.O.W. has been our first attempt. We’ve been lucky :)

Who was the leader?
The three of us. We reject the concept of leadership.

Did you had any “storming” moments while working together?
We have only storming moments… Instead of hanging around and get drunk as young people usually do, we say stupid things to make our day.

What was the division of work for the project?
God created the cow… Edison the light bulb… we just stole their own ideas. Bob thought about the acronym, Elia made up the concept and the name, Mary worked on the pay-off. The logo was drawn by the three of us together.

Do you have skills that you wish to develop or talents you wish to perfect?
Mary is the one who works with words languages, Bob plays with concepts and sounds and Elia is the instant idea guy. The only thing we want to increase is the ability to dream about new things, to think different in order to create our own way. We would love to continue this job having fun.

What do you like to do with your free time?
Elia sings in a progressive rock band and is currently working on the release of his second album. He loves to read and to paint; half of his life is taken away by films and tv serials. He gets to sleep at 6 am and gets up at 11 am asking himself why is he tired. He’s the one always having a sigarette in his right hand and a kebab in the left one.

Sir Bob in a bass guitar player with an Mc past. He’s in love with every form of art. Lately he’s been around Naples with a Kandisnky book that weighs more than him. He loves music more than everything, but not more than his mommy.

Mary loves to read. She’s the youngest of the three but claims to be the wisest. She loves to find typos hidden in books and to drink beer. In the past year she’s developed an incredible ability to buy birthday presents. She can make an awesome tiramisu.

What are your plans for the future?
Mary wants to be an editor, break off young literary careers and read as a scrounger. Bob wants to make creativity his own work. Elia would like to become an advertiser, write a script for Warner, publish a cd with Warner, write a book, marry his girlfriend and possibly win a lifetime kebab supply.

We hope you smiled at least as many times as we did when we first read this peculiar interview:)

How to optimize your BootB participation? Here at BootB, we thought there’s nobody else better qualified to answer this question, than our own best Creators!

Closely following the Comments sections of all Pitches and interviewing or exchanging casual emails with some of you, the idea pop up: a BootB Best Practice Guide, designed by BootB Creators for BootB Creators. There are no better advisers out there when it comes to giving tips and suggestions on how to get the best from BootB :)

To get things rolling, we’ve started by contacting the Top 5 Creators and we’ve gathered their precious input in a preliminary version of this guide. Additionally, we’ve included great pieces of advice from interviews with our recently winning Creators.

However, we are confident that the biggest part of the Creators community has important learnings and valuable suggestions to add so we invite you all to participate by leaving comments. We will keep an eye on your recommendations and we will regularly update the Best Practice Guide.

Here is a quick preview of the guide, divided by Pitch Process stages:

∞ Pitch Selection – make sure your not wasting your time or the time of the Brand

“Participate only if you you’re convinced you will bring a significant contribution and design with passion – when the creative Solution is prepared with dedication and excitement, while in brief, most of times it stays head and shoulders above the rest” says Armint.

∞ Solution Preparation – don’t flood, design to win and keep your feet on the ground

“Read carefully what the Brand has to say, try to understand its needs and go the extra mile when working on your proposal. Again, one should keep in mind that while the Solution may be absolutely great, for various reasons it just doesn’t fit 100% the Brands needs. Many other Creators will participate, so always remember that you might not win. When that happens – take it easy!” says mxone.

∞ Post Solution Submission – don’t fill up the Comments section with feedback requests

“Use the Comments section to ask precise and helpful details. Did you get an ugly Thumbs Down? Don’t waste time and effort to ask useless feedback. Work on another Solution before the end of the Pitch.” says Tumitu.

∞ Free additional advice – wildly creative recommendations

“Enjoy the ride! BootB is a wonderful opportunity to express yourself creatively. If you’re trying to make it in the creative industry, use these briefs as a way to improve your folio. All Briefs are live and most offer the possibility to create something truly wonderful!” says flood.

11k USD, exposure and a job – this is what Lchumpitaz recently won after participating to the BootB Pitch “TV Spot” signed IP. Coming from Peru, Luis has showed us all that on BootB, talent crosses through every culture and over any border :).

See how he did it!

Already a frequent BootB client, the Italian oil company, partnering the FIGC (Italian Football Federation), came to BootB looking for a TV spot to increase its brand awareness on the occasion of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.

Finding the best creativity on BootB, IP has passed on the spot for production to Polline - the Roman agency to whom it had previous contacts. And what better way to take the project to an end if not involving the Creator himself?! We can tell you it was not easy to get a hold on Luis last week. Now part of the Polline team he was working hard on giving the last finishings to the 3D video spot - already ON AIR on RAI, SKY and MEDIASET!

Now let us introduce you to “el Chumpitaz“” :P

BootB: Luis Chumpitaz in a nutshell
Lchumpitaz: 29 years old Peruvian graphic designer passionate about 3D animation. I’ve completed my studies in Peru and Argentina and I am currently living in Rome, Italy. Thanks to BootB and IP I am now working for Polline – the Roman agency producing the World Cup 2010 IP Gruppo api TV spot.

How come you decided to leave Peru and why did you pick Italy among other destinations?
The decision to leave Peru for Italy was taken mainly because most of my family is rooted here. Before moving to Rome I had spent a couple of years in Argentina studying film making and 3D animation.

What do you miss the most from Peru?
The food and the life style. I find the Italian rhythm of life more agitated – back home is calm and peaceful, or at least this is how I conceive it. I miss going out with my friends as well.

How’s the creative environment in your country?
Colorful:) I want to stress that Peruvians are very creative in elaborating new things and developing new techniques for everything.

What was the first creative work you have completed?
My first creative work – a four graphics project, was carried out for a magazine called Tatoon. I felt truly satisfied and rewarded as I won 2 prizes for it – best ad graphics and best creative project.

What’s the work you’re most proud of?
I am very proud of the video I did for “Virgilio Sign Ring” – I have a lot in common with the character, I actually identify myself with it.

How did you come across BootB?
While having a job interview, hearing about my passion for video making and contests, the employer recommended me to join BootB. I am still very grateful to that person :).

So what caught your attention to the IP Pitch?
The creative task – video making. Lately I find a lot of satisfaction in making 3D videos and this is what I want to focus on.

How confident were you about your Solution?
Initially I was very confident about my proposal. However as days were passing by and many other Solutions were getting submitted I started to become curious about the competing proposals. Then I found out my Solution was among the 10 best – that was when I said to myslef: “I will win this Pitch!” :).

Are you a football lover? Who would you like to win the FIFA World Cup this year?
Yes, I love football. Too bad Peru hasn’t been qualifying for the World Cup for a while now :(. I hope Argentina will win this year round :).
BootB: Gracias Luis! Best of luck in your new job!

Those of you crazy about football have probably seen already the IP spot on air - let us know what you think!

We thought about starting directly with the winning Solution since curiosity was running so high :)

Looking to be unconventional all the way, this agency came to BootB to seek for a unique corporate identity – one that corresponds to its mission based on customer value co-creation principals.

Apart from being a cute and funny animal, the cow has a very rich animal symbolism: abundance, potential, fertility, nourishment, beginnings. Remember the Cash Cow in the BCG Matrix – the one you milk for profits? What about the charging bull of Wall Street – the symbol of financial optimism and prosperity?

The name C.O.W is unconventional indeed, both hilarious and international. The logo – simple and easy to recognize, says innovation by all means. No doubts: a winning Solution. Well done Aglaia! Looks like you’re just as curios to know her :). An interview is coming up soon!

We’ve left the most exciting news for the end: today C.O.W is launching another Pitch on BootB! The cowgirl and the cowboys behind this agency will introduce themselves to you, give you a better grasp of their business and throw in another creative challenge: a web-skin for their cow-farm website.

Milk your creative mind!
