The Karmelo Anthony case just got a whole lot messier, as the retrial hearing drags some seriously ugly receipts into the light.

According to CBS News Texas, attorneys are now unpacking previously hidden background records involving both Anthony and Austin Metcalf, the 17-year-old Anthony was convicted of fatally stabbing during a 2025 high school track meet. Those records were kept from the original jury after prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed to keep the trial focused on the confrontation itself. Now, that decision is being revisited as Anthony fights for a new trial and the 20-plus pages detailing Austin’s history are raising some uncomfortable questions about the carefully polished image presented to the public.

Austin and his twin brother Hunter Metcalf were previously caught spray-painting racist and antisemitic graffiti, including “KKK kill all blacks,” “Heil Hitler,” and the N-word. The brothers received 12 months of juvenile probation and reportedly admitted they had done “some dumb stuff” and vandalized property.

But clearly, the racist graffiti was not an isolated teenage lapse in judgment. School records reportedly document multiple instances of Austin using racial slurs. In 2023, he was accused of bullying a Black student. In 2018, Austin and Hunter were accused of bullying and assaulting a female student, an incident that resulted in Austin’s arrest. Then, in 2024, Austin allegedly knocked another female student to the ground and punched her in the stomach.

CBS News reports that there were also documented anger issues and threats of violence. After getting kicked out of a football game, Austin reportedly texted that he was about to “beat” other kids. At another track meet, when someone said a student was talking wild behind the team’s bench, Austin reportedly responded, “Kill that mf.” He reportedly met with a counselor at least five times in 2024 over anger and rage during football games. He was also suspended after discussing bringing a gun to school.

But the hearing isn’t simply exposing Metcalf family secrets. Prosecutors also presented a disturbing 75-page file on Karmelo Anthony. His records allegedly include a history of aggression, an obsession with knives, and troubling communications with his ex-girlfriend, Valerie Perez. Perez reportedly told school officials Anthony was stalking her and refusing to accept their breakup. On the morning of the fatal confrontation, Anthony allegedly sent her a photo of a knife along with an alarming message.

So now the court is staring at a case where the jury never got to see the full backgrounds of either teenager. That doesn’t erase Austin’s death or automatically prove Anthony’s self-defense claim. But it does raise a very serious question, did keeping all of this evidence away from the jury actually produce a fair trial? That’s the question the new judge now has to answer.

Ultimately, Donell tried to “Get It Together,” but his efforts were no match for Joe’s prolifically pristine vocals as he dominated, declaring that he “didn’t wanna be a player no more” while doing “alllll the things your man won’t do.”

During Thursday night’s “R&B Nights” battle, Jones surprised fans by bringing out 702 to perform “Get It Together,” the 1996 hit he wrote and produced for the group. The song marked 702’s debut on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later certified gold.

Joe had a major surprise of his own. After running through collaborations with artists including Mariah Carey, Nas and Big Pun, the R&B singer brought out 50 Cent for their 2003 collaboration “Wanna Get to Know You.” 50 also joined Joe for “Big Rich Town,” best known as the theme song for Power. Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda also joined the Queens rapper onstage.

The guest appearances came as both artists leaned into their extensive catalogs rather than treating the night like a traditional rivalry. Jones had made that clear ahead of the battle, saying he viewed the event as “a celebration” rather than a competition filled with back-and-forth jabs.

“We grown a** men. We both have two great catalogs. We’re going to treat it as such,” he said.

The sentiment carried into the rest of the show, which featured live fan voting throughout the night. Joe got off to a strong start, winning the first four rounds with songs including “Don’t Wanna Be a Player” and “If I Was Your Man.”

Complex reports that Jones picked up his first round win with “This Luv.”

Jones’ 702 performance came in Round 7, where he answered Joe’s “More & More” with “Get It Together.” Fans ultimately gave Joe the edge in that matchup, voting 63% for him compared with 37% for Jones, according to Complex’s official scorecard.

Joe went on to absolutely dominate the overall voting, winning the battle 18-2.

The matchup is part of the latest chapter of VERZUZ under Complex and Apple Music.

The partnership launched at ComplexCon Las Vegas last year with a Cash Money vs. No Limit showdown and has since featured matchups including Tank vs. Tyrese.

There’s a celebration at the headquarters of Urban One. Ms. Cathy Hughes, Founder and Chairperson of the largest Black-owned multimedia conglomerate in the nation, was awarded the key to the city on July 15 — a long overdue recognition in Washington, D.C., where she has spoken truth to power for over 55 years and counting.

“I am always thinking in terms of what’s next,” she says inside Radio One offices. “What’s the next thing to be done? I never think in those terms — that we won this. I just try to keep on moving forward,” she says about her latest honor.

It’s that thinking that has landed Hughes ahead of the curve for decades. She has been a forward thinker and visionary, revolutionizing FM radio by creating and developing the Quiet Storm format — among many other firsts, including, but not limited to: the first woman vice president and general manager of a radio station in Washington, D.C.; the first woman to own a radio station that was ranked No. 1 in a major market; the first Black woman to head a publicly traded company; founder of the largest Black-owned broadcast company in the country; creator of the first 24-hour gospel radio show.

It’s no surprise that she is both thrilled to be granted the key to Washington, D.C., and still envisioning her next move.

Hughes cut her teeth in D.C. as an admin for Tony Brown at Howard University, where he was well known for his eponymous public affairs program, Tony Brown’s Journal — one of the most influential Black public affairs programs in the U.S.

Brown died two days after Hughes was awarded the key to the city. He witnessed her work ethic at Howard at WHUR, promoting her from admin to sales manager to general manager and vice president. 

As a general sales manager, she increased revenue by approximately $3 million. In 1976, as vice president and general manager, Hughes created the Quiet Storm along with then-Howard student Melvin Lindsey, who became the DJ playing slow jams, romantic ballads, and jazz in the evening, setting the mood for love. 

As WHUR’s station manager, Hughes conceptualized the show’s format—even suggesting the use of the Smokey Robinson song as its title—and the station rose from 20 in ratings to No. 3, boosting revenues. In 1977, within a year of Lindsey hosting, the groundbreaking program became No. 1 in its time slot.

With Hughes’ leadership, rooted in her love for Black people and serving as a cultural lighthouse, the Quiet Storm showed advertisers that Black consumers were a pivotal demographic for ratings and revenue.

But Hughes wasn’t satisfied yet. Her next goal? Ownership.

Information Is Power

Cathy Hughes sat in front of her microphone at a large street-facing picture window on the corner of 4th Street and H Street, broadcasting live in Washington, D.C. It’s the mid-’80s, and the media mogul is holding court with community members, young and old, saints and sinners alike. She acts as both the observer and narrator of the neighborhood’s daily life. She talks directly to her listeners on the street, sharing the news of the day – and the community would tell her about their latest neighborhood news.

Like Petey Green before her at WOL in D.C., Cathy Hughes believed in advocacy journalism. News coverage in the “Chocolate City” was often negative, stereotypical, and imbalanced for Black Washingtonians, who then made up 70 % of the population. When Cathy Hughes (then Cathy Liggins) and her husband Dewey Hughes (who had managed Petey Green’s career years before) planned to purchase WOL in 1980, she envisioned a 24-hour serious Black news talk show — including news, public affairs, religion, finance, among other topics.

Many other suitors competed to buy WOL, including Reggie Jackson, ESSENCE magazine, Johnson Publishing, and a group that included Muhammad Ali. Hughes and her husband won it for close to a million.

But while Dewey Hughes wasn’t sure if it was a sound investment, Cathy Hughes only saw an opportunity. The couple eventually divorced, and the radio pioneer continued with the station on her own, spending 18 months sleeping in her office with her young son, Alfred, and waking up every morning to host the radio show in the station’s morning slot for 11 years.        

“She was trying to engage the community because the crack era was coming in – people were getting shot,” DJ Konan remembers. “But Ms. Hughes wanted to change that whole corridor. She made sure we stayed in the community.” 

Hughes, whose slogan for the show was “information is power,” used her newfound ownership to learn every part of radio that she didn’t already know. Konan, Hughes, and her son Alfred read books to children in the community as part of the Reading is Fundamental program. 

“This kid grabbed my leg, and he said, ‘Konan, thanks for coming to read to us,’ “Konan recalled about the time he spent reading to kids with Hughes. I told Ms. H., “I want to do this for the rest of my life — she said, ‘If you believe it you will.’”

Hughes’ Legacy

Johnny “Porkchop” Doswell, a DJ for Radio One for Baltimore station 92 Q, remembered the first time he met Hughes. 

“She was the boss of a multimillion-dollar company, but I felt like I was talking to my mother,” Porkchop said in an interview with NewsOne. “She managed thousands of personalities. She knew the right thing to say to get us to do something. 

“To this day she still asks about my health and if I’m taking care of myself; that means so much to me. I am sure Jeff Bezos isn’t like, ‘What are your kids up to?’ But she would remember everyone’s name,” Porkchop remembered. 

“Cathy Hughes and Radio One will go down as the biggest radio influence of its time – with the number of stations (over 70), the people that worked there, and community impact,” Marc Clarke, formerly a DJ on the Big Phat Morning Show on 92 Q on Radio One in Baltimore, told NewsOne.

“She made millionaires – Russ Parr, Tom Joyner, Donnie Simpson, Melvin Lindsey, and she gave a lot of people their first start– Robin Holden, Bri Taylor, Bob Thomas,  Bernie McCain, and so many others,” Clarke added.

“Her legacy is to be the first Black woman in the U.S. to head a publicly traded company,” said Dyana Williams, a pioneering radio broadcaster and long-time friend of Hughes, told NewsOne.

Porkchop summed up her legacy and the culmination of  Hughes’ life-long journey succinctly.

“We don’t know what her legacy is yet, because she’s not done yet,” he said.

If you have ever tried to build a business and a relationship at the same time, you already know that both require the same things from you: time, attention, intentionality, and the courage to keep showing up even when it gets hard. Now, as Black Business Month continues, BLK and The Gathering Spot have launched a campaign that shows the similarities between Black love and Black business. 

The largest dating and social app for Black singles, BLK, just put that truth at the center of a brand new campaign called “Open for Business (and Love)” in partnership with The Gathering Spot. The timing could not be more fitting. Black Business Month is here, and the culture is finally getting a campaign that treats Black ambition and Black love as equally worthy of celebration.

The campaign officially launched on Wednesday (August 19). It is built around a trend BLK identified within its own community, called “entrepre-dating,” which describes the growing number of Black professionals specifically seeking partners who understand what it means to build something from the ground up.

Not just someone who tolerates the long hours and the mental load of entrepreneurship but someone who genuinely respects it, shares it, and might even build alongside it.

As BLK Head of Brand Amber Cooper explained in the campaign’s official announcement:

“Black founders are used to being asked about their business plan, not their love life. With ‘Open for Business (and Love),’ we wanted to hold both in the same frame, because the truth is they take the same thing: intention.”

At the center of the campaign is an original content series of the same name. The series premiered alongside the campaign and features three Atlanta entrepreneurs whose stories carry the full weight of what it means to pour yourself into your work while still making room for real connection.

Timothy George is the founder and CEO of eLo, a sustainable lifestyle and personal care brand that grew from a 2017 Harlem pop-up into two Atlanta retail locations. In his episode, he reflects on realizing he was an entrepreneur only three years into the journey and on how difficult it can be to step out of CEO mode before a date. 

Shyanne Valentine — the founder of Happy Vibes Brand and The Shyanne Effect — speaks openly about treating dating like a second job and about a moment when the business actually cost her a relationship and what she took away from it. 

Founder and CEO of Grounded Marketing and co-founder of the Atlanta Book Festival, Alyssa Evans, makes a warm and direct case against dating for the optics and closes the series with something that is going to hit differently for every single person navigating ambition and love at the same time.

The series premiered at a rooftop reception at RETREAT by The Gathering Spot in Atlanta, where single Black entrepreneurs and professionals came together for an evening of food, conversation and real connection.

The Gathering Spot co-founder and CEO Ryan Wilson put it plainly:

“We have partnered with BLK before because we share an audience and a mission, which is making space for Black excellence in all its forms. Continuing that partnership for Black Business Month, with Atlanta’s founders at the center of it, was an easy decision.”

This campaign is not about choosing between the boardroom and the bedroom. It is about understanding that the same people building Black businesses are often trying to build Black love at the same time and both deserve the same level of intentionality. “Open for Business (and Love)” is available to stream now. Lanterns follows two Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan ( Kyle Chandler) and Green Lantern recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), through a series of battles, misunderstandings, and their obligation to protect the galaxy from extraterrestrial threats.

But before the show gets to that point, we see a young John Stewart studying a 1996 Hal Jordan interview. By this point, John has already been selected by the Guardians as the next Green Lantern, and the remainder of his childhood is spent training, learning, and suppressing emotions in preparation for his ascension into THE Green Lantern.

Fast-forward to 2016, Hal Jordan is John Stewart’s witty and unorthodox galaxy-guarding Green Lantern mentor. Poised, calm, and witty in his own right, John Stewart is skeptical about Hal’s ability to mold him into a suitable Green Lantern – pair this with Hal’s refusal to depart from the ring, and you can imagine how tension would rise between the two. In the first 10 minutes, we see Hal abandon John most outrageously, resulting in a car crash where John luckily gets to wear the ring to save himself.

What started it? Glad you asked.

John expressed his concerns about training for two months and still having yet to wear the ring, to which Hal replied,

“Don’t get hung up on the jewelry, junior; you’ll wear it when it chooses you.” “… You wanna take it? There’s a taco stand three miles up the road. I’ll meet you there,” then Hal jumps out of the moving vehicle, leaving John to crash and fend for himself.

A key moment in the beginning of the first episode that resonated with fans is after John survives the crash (of course) and calls his dad to tell him what took place. His father, played by P-Valley’s J. Alphonse Nicholson, says, “They’re allowed to have tantrums; we’re not.” Even in fantasy, we can’t lose our tempers…

Only One Can Wear the Ring, so how are there two Green Lanterns?

Hal Jordan is the Green Lantern Earthlings have come to know and love, but the Guardians picked John Stewart to be his successor.

John is steadfast in becoming the Green Lantern, but Hal refuses to let go of the title, the status, and most importantly, the ring. It becomes a Batman and Robin dynamic (with tension) until… Sadly for viewers, John officially has the ring. Now, we’re in 2026, and John has to assume the position.

2016-2026. What happens?

Well, let’s put it like this.

After John survives the crash in 2016, he meets Hal again, a version of Hal. The ring allows the Green Lantern to operate like an Apple iCloud (that you don’t have to pay extra for) and backup versions of himself; the only problem is that Hal’s consciousness hasn’t been backed up since 2006 (there’s something here with these years ending in 6). The 2006 Hal relays a message to John,

”There’s hail in Rushville, Nebraska.”

John finds his way to 2016 Hal, expresses his discomfort, and mentions the message from 2006 Hal.

In an instant, 2016 Hal leaves John with the bill at the taco stand to take off into the sky en route to Rushville, Nebraska. Humanly, John finds his way to Nebraska, where an investigation is going on, and Hal cleverly figures out there’s an alien involved. After talking with Sheriff Kerry Kane (Kelly Macdonald), John jumps the gun and runs after the suspected alien; the alien gets arrested, and Hal and John go to a bar where Hal devises a plan to get arrested to talk to the alien in jail.

In the midst of Hal enacting his plan (which ends in his arrest), John talks to a woman, sleeps with her in his truck, and later finds out she’s the wife of an important man in town.

The 2016 Lanterns journey ends with Hal investigating the alien, getting him to admit he’s an alien because he could only admit remedial facts about Obama and past presidents, and then Hal having to use all of his power to keep the city from experiencing a massive explosion the alien used all of his life force to exude.

In 2026, John comes back to Rushville, Nebraska, at the request of Sheriff Kane because, in one way or another, Hal has relinquished the ring, and now John is the one who can wear it.

Aaron Pierre On playing John Stewart

During a Los Angeles ‘Lanterns’ press conference, Aaron Pierre spoke about his rendition of John Stewart in the first live-action adaptation of Green Lanterns.

“I’ve had my fair share of learning to master my sober mind and learning to navigate my experiences as someone who does feel things very heavily and deeply, so, I feel very seen by John.”

Pierre went on to say,

“One of my favorite things about John Stewart and how he is detailed and written and shared with audiences is the truth and honesty that is present within him, and how he is just so immensely complex, but just like we all are.”

The role called for Aaron Pierre to seek what truth he could bring to John.

“You have to bring a level of yourself and your truth to the portrayal because otherwise, it’s not authentic and otherwise there is no opportunity for audiences to resonate with you because you are simply copying and pasting,” said Pierre.

He also spoke on the importance of the character for Black representation.

Streaming now on HBO MAX, the series is set across a 30-year time period from 1996 to 2026 that fills in the blanks pertaining to questions loyal DC Comics Green Lantern fans might have about Hal, John, and the galaxy’s fate.

In Season 20 of the Peacock series, the duo has traveled a rocky road to romance, with several eyebrow-raising moments fueling online debate. One of the most controversial came when Shawn suggested that helping him achieve a sexual “release” through mutual masturbation was part of Nikki “showing up as a wife.”

Things escalated when Nikki confronted Shawn about framing intimacy as a “wifely duty.” Shawn denied saying that, insisting that he would “never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever say, ‘Okay, it’s your wifely duty to please me,’” despite previously saying on camera that providing a “release” was part of “showing up as a wife.”

The exchange sparked accusations that Shawn was gaslighting Nikki, criticism he later acknowledged.

In a lengthy (seemingly deleted) Instagram statement posted Aug. 10, Shawn apologized for pressuring Nikki sexually and for denying what he had communicated during their conversation.

“I apologize. It was my wrongdoing. Full stop,” he wrote. “I am starting to get it now. And I am truly sorry to my wife and the many out there who’ve felt the wrong side of feeling before.”

Shawn also acknowledged that he “gaslit my wife” and “said words, tried to backtrack, and did not own up to what I said.”

He encouraged his followers to “wait until your partner is ready” and “just apologize,” before concluding, “May our transparency in this process provide some level of healing for your journey.”

Now, he tells BOSSIP that watching the exchange back helped him realize that he became so focused on defending what he meant that he failed to acknowledge how his words and subsequent denial affected Nikki.

Shawn Says He Was Wrong To Focus On His Intent Instead Of Nikki’s Impact

“It was important for me to own that moment because growth requires more than explaining what I meant,” Shawn told BOSSIP. “It requires being willing to look at how what I said, and especially how I responded afterward, may have landed.”

Shawn said he now understands why women watching the scene felt frustrated by his response.

“I can absolutely understand why women, including those in my own family and tribe, watching that exchange felt frustrated, dismissed, or even gaslit,” he told BOSSIP.

He also apologized to women who may have recognized their own experiences in Nikki’s.

“To any woman who has ever had someone make her question what she heard, what she experienced, or whether her feelings were valid, I’m genuinely sorry that my response may have echoed that experience.”

That concern, Shawn said, was why he intentionally left Nikki out of the images included in his public Instagram apology.

“I wanted this moment to be an apology for any woman who could see herself there and may have felt that way before,” he told BOSSIP.

Looking back, Shawn said he believes he got caught up in semantics.

“I think my mistake was becoming so focused on the exact words, my intention, and defending what I believed I meant that I wasn’t fully honoring the impact of the conversation,” he said.

“I’ve learned that you can be technically defending your intention and still completely miss the emotional point.”

Instead of asking himself whether he was right, Shawn told BOSSIP that he eventually started asking a different question.

“Did the person I care about feel heard, respected, and emotionally safe with me?”

That shift, he said, became one of his biggest lessons from the experiment.

“I don’t want to be a man who simply has the language to explain himself well,” Shawn told BOSSIP. “I want to be a man who can slow down enough to hear when my communication is hurting somebody, own my part, apologize without a ‘but,’ and do better the next time.”

Nikki Says ‘Pressure Doesn’t Create Intimacy’

Nikki told BOSSIP that she appreciates the apology, but she isn’t handing out instant absolution.

“I think it’s good on Shawn that he owned it and apologized,” she said. “We have very different ideas about intimacy in a marriage.”

For Nikki, marriage did not mean immediate access to her body.

“For me, it’s not something you did because you were married,” she said. “It is something I wanted us to explore and grow into naturally, with trust and attraction building over time.”

She told BOSSIP the “wifely duty” conversation was especially troubling because it came after a series of moments that repeatedly made her retreat from Shawn.

“When he said ‘wifely duty,’ I was stunned, but honestly, by then I wasn’t totally surprised,” Nikki said.

“We had this pattern where I’d start to feel comfortable with him, we’d laugh, have a good time, I’d open up a little more, and then something would happen that made me pull back again.”

For Nikki, putting pressure on physical intimacy only pushed her further away.

“Pressure doesn’t create intimacy. It usually works against it,” she told BOSSIP.

“The more intimacy started to feel like an expectation, a measure of whether I was being a good wife, or something I needed to provide to keep him happy, the less safe and natural it felt.”

“You can’t pressure someone into the closeness you’re saying you want.”

And when Shawn disputed her version of the conversation, Nikki was thankful there were cameras capturing the conflict.

“I was honestly glad there was footage,” she said. “He was backpedaling on what he had said, and I knew that wasn’t how the conversation happened.”

Her thought in the moment?

“Thank God this is on camera. We have receipts!”

As for whether she accepts Shawn’s apology, Nikki told BOSSIP she’s watching his actions instead.

“I don’t feel a need to say, ‘I accept your apology,’” she said. “For me, the more important thing is what happens after the apology.”

“Does the understanding stick? Does the behavior change? I think time tells you that.”

During the interview, host Francesca Amiker informed Kandi that K. Michelle allegedly called her “a mean girl” during this season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, but K says that’s far from the truth.

K. Michelle said she never asked Shamea to go to a concert with her and Kandi, the root of the “mean girl” allegations.

K. Michelle disputed the claim on social media and addressed it again during a live social media Q&A on Aug. 20.

While defending herself, the singer also opened up about what allegedly happened the night she spent time with Shamea and her mother, and issued Shamea a warning, suggesting she has information that her co-star probably would not want made public.

K. Michelle began by addressing the Charlie Wilson concert, making it clear that she never asked to attend the event with Shamea and Kandi, a claim Shamea brought up during her interview with Carlos King in June. The off-camera situation has reportedly contributed to the tension between Kandi and the singer this season, along with those fiery “mean girl” claims.

“Y’all know damn well ain’t asked to go no Charlie Wilson concert with no Kandi… No disrespect, but for what?” she explained.

K. Michelle said that after spending time with Shamea and her mother that night, she realized she needed to keep her “distance,” claiming that something felt “wrong” to her.

According to K. Michelle, she later spoke with Shamea by phone, during which she claimed Shamea told her that Kandi had learned she was offended about not being invited to the concert, due to the Xscape singer’s loyalty to Rasheeda Frost, K. Michelle’s longtime foe. Shamea allegedly apologized for not inviting her and claimed she and Kandi would “get long” and be “the best of friends” if they got to know one another. 

Still, something felt off. K. Michelle said the entire conversation left her confused because she had never had an issue with Kandi.

“Why are you being messy, Shamia? What are we even talking about? Yes, this is a pretty woman. Yes, she has success. Me and this lady have never had a problem. We’re in the music industry. We’ve never had a problem in over 10 years.”

She continued:

“What are you doing? Telling her, and telling them, Rasheeda and them, telling these girls that I want to hang with them. Out of all of these years, I done got away from that. You done come into my life, and you telling these girls I’m asking to hang with them? You out your f–king mind!”

K. Michelle had something to say to Kandi Burruss and Francesca Amiker about those “mean girl allegations, too.

K. Michelle then pleaded with Shamea to leave her “out” of the drama before shifting her attention to Kandi and Big Tigger Morning Show host Francesca Amiker.

The singer took a shot at Amiker, claiming she could have “had her job” before telling the radio host to “go somewhere and finish your breakfast and read a book.” The comment was noticeably more restrained than the remarks K. Michelle made about Amiker on Wednesday, when she referred to her as Tigger’s “side piece.”

K. Michelle also doubled down on her denial that she ever called Kandi Burruss a “mean girl.”

“Now, when did I say that, b–h? When? When did I say that?”

She also called out Kandi, alleging that the reality star wanted to say something “crazy” about her.

“Because you said it too quick. But that’s okay. I still respect you. I’m still a woman. Sick of it,” she added.

They’re baaack! Jaz and Nesha are returning to TLC for another season of friendship, funny business, and major life changes when 1000-Lb. Roomies returns Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, and BOSSIP’s got an exclusive look at the trailer.

Season 2 once again follows the best friends and roommates as they navigate the highs and lows of their health journeys while pursuing new opportunities, relationships, and independence.

For Jaz, that means continuing her recovery and working toward regaining her mobility, but there might also be a little romance on the horizon.

The trailer shows Jaz preparing for a date with Brandon, but the possibility of a new relationship brings some nerves as she wonders how he’ll react to her health challenges.

“I never thought that I would be having my first date in the bedroom,” she says before Brandon sweetly tells her, “You are gorgeous.”

“I’m kind of nervous to tell Brandon about my mobility issues,” Jaz admits.

She’s also challenging herself physically and announces plans to participate in a 5K, although actually getting moving proves easier said than done.

“I don’t want to get up,” she says during one moment.

Meanwhile, Nesha is making moves of her own by launching an event-planning business and hosting a speed-dating event. She’ll also confront a much heavier part of her past this season as she explores the lasting impact of growing up in a religious cult.

In the trailer, an apparent meeting connected to that past leaves Nesha visibly shaken.

“My heart is beating out of my chest,” she says. “I don’t know if she’s going to try to make me come back.”

Amid the serious moments, there’s still plenty of the humor that viewers have come to expect from the roommates, including them showing off their wig collections.

“Every Black girl need a little wig collection,” says Nesha.

Things aren’t all cackles between the besties, however, as their friendship faces some serious friction.

“I love Nesha, but since my surgery, we’re losing that friendship,” Jaz admits in the trailer.

The tension boils over during an emotional confrontation, with Nesha telling her friend, “If you don’t want me around, talk to me about it. We’re both grown.”

Despite the drama, the two appear determined to repair their bond, even deciding that a trip to Cabo might help them “get their groove back.”

Arguably the most emotional moments in the trailer center on Jaz’s continuing struggle with her mobility.

During one scene, Jaz is encouraged to stand but tearfully says she can’t, prompting a serious conversation about what comes next.

“You have to do something about not being able to walk,” she’s told by a doctor before inpatient rehabilitation is suggested.

The possibility leaves Jaz terrified about her future.

“If I don’t walk again, I will be in a nursing home forever,” she says.

Between burgeoning romance, business moves, friendship fallout, and pivotal health decisions, Jaz and Nesha have plenty ahead of them as they continue to navigate life side by side.

The Season 8 winner has landed a major brand partnership with Verizon, teaming up with the telecommunications giant for its new Verizon Dollars loyalty program. The deal marks a major career moment for Tatum, who is turning her reality TV breakout into a lucrative corporate partnership.

And if there’s one thing reality TV has taught us, it’s that the real prize can come long after the cameras stop rolling.

For the Verizon campaign, Tatum is trading the Villa for a palace in “Queen of Cash,” a social-first spot that puts her in full royal mode as she takes viewers through an extravagant world of luxury and, of course, money.

The campaign flips the script on traditional royal tropes, positioning Tatum as a modern-day queen who gets just as much satisfaction from earning rewards as she does from spending them.

Leslie Berland, CMO and EVP of Verizon, said Tatum was the perfect fit for the company’s first major collaboration around Verizon Dollars.

The campaign is part of Verizon Shine, the company’s customer loyalty platform, which offers weekly experiences, daily drops and rewards to customers.

For Tatum, however, the biggest reward may be what comes next. She walked away from Love Island with the title of Season 8 winner. Now, she’s walking into a new chapter where the crown comes with brand deals, corporate partnerships and plenty of opportunities to secure the bag.

Elon Musk has officially decided that being a billionaire, tech CEO and professional internet nuisance qualifies him to rewrite the facts of one of the most consequential murder cases in modern American history.

Musk(y) took to X this week to declare that Derek Chauvin was “unjustly convicted of murder” and should be freed. Because apparently watching the same video everyone else watched somehow left Musk with a completely different understanding of what happened to George Floyd. Donald Trump’s favorite do-boy went on to insist that “the facts” show Chauvin was not responsible for Floyd’s death and never intended for anyone to die. He also declared that, whatever else Chauvin may be, “he is not a murderer.”

Not only that, but Sunken Place Pontificator Jason Whitlock also (naturally) chimed in.

Sir, you can buy a social media platform, an electric car company, and whatever else your digital wallet can hold. You cannot purchase a magical alternate version of reality.

As BOSSIP previously reported, Chauvin was convicted in 2021 after video showed him pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck while Floyd was handcuffed, face down, and repeatedly saying he could not breathe. Floyd died after approximately nine and a half minutes under Chauvin’s restraint. Chauvin is serving a 22 1/2-year state sentence for second-degree murder along with a concurrent 21-year federal sentence for violating Floyd’s civil rights.

Meanwhile, Chauvin is back in court trying, for the third time, to get his state conviction overturned. The Hill reports that his attorneys are now arguing that there were constitutional and procedural problems with the prosecution.

Chauvin’s attorneys wrote in the filing that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s delegation of the case to Ellison was an “unlawful assignment of authority.”

“As a result of these several due process violations, including the failure to present the matter to a grand jury for a probable cause determination or even to convene one, both this Court and the District Court lack jurisdiction over the charges in the Amended Complaint on which he is currently incarcerated, and it must be dismissed immediately,” Chauvin’s legal team wrote in the filing.”

Previous attempts to overturn the conviction have already been rejected.

So naturally, Musk saw all of this and apparently thought, “You know what this case needs? My faux-expertise.”

This is the same Elon Musk who has spent years cultivating the image of a genius who can single-handedly solve humanity’s biggest problems, only to repeatedly demonstrate that having money does not necessarily come with the ability to recognize when you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

Musk and Chauvin can go straight to h-e-double-hockey-sticks.

Brown filed the lawsuit without an attorney in federal court. In the complaint, dated Aug. 14, she says deputies arrested her on July 6 on a Fulton County warrant accusing her of interfering with child custody — even though a judge had granted her custody of her minor children less than two weeks earlier.

She says the warrant was later recalled and the charge was not prosecuted, per CBS News.

The arrest happened near Exit 177 in Hart County after deputies received an alert about Brown’s vehicle. With help from the Georgia State Patrol, deputies pulled her over and took her into custody. Two children inside the vehicle were found unharmed.

At the time, the Hart County Sheriff’s Office said Brown had active warrants from Fulton County and Baltimore County, Maryland. Brown’s lawsuit now disputes the validity of the Fulton County warrant.

The Maryland warrant was tied to the 2019 disappearance of Brown’s daughter, who was 10 when she was reported missing.

Baltimore County police said in July that the girl was still missing and was not one of the two children found during the Georgia traffic stop.

Brown’s lawsuit focuses on the Fulton County warrant. She argues that the court order granting her custody should have been considered before the warrant was issued or carried out.

Brown says the arrest violated her constitutional rights and left her dealing with emotional distress, damage to her reputation, financial losses, and separation from her children. She is seeking unspecified damages and a jury trial.

The lawsuit also raises questions about possible communication between Labat, Sheriff’s Office employees and Brown’s estranged husband, Darian Morgan. Brown wants access to phone records, text messages and other communications that could show who was involved in obtaining the warrant and how authorities learned where she was driving.

Brown also wants the court to examine whether Morgan received preferential treatment after his June 20 arrest on aggravated battery and third-degree cruelty to children charges connected to an alleged domestic dispute. He was released on bond the same day.

Big Tigger has denied all wrongdoing, but stepped away from his morning radio show as his personal and legal matters continue to draw more public attention.

The radio host, whose legal name is Darian Morgan, posted a statement on social media saying he wants to focus on his family while allowing his legal team to handle things.

“For as long as I’ve been in this industry, my focus has always been to keep the spotlight on the culture and the incredible people I get to interview,” Morgan wrote at the time. “But right now, my personal life is in the public eye and has become the subject of overwhelming speculation and misinformation.”

Detroit’s favorite amateur detective is back, and this time, the mystery is getting even messier.

Diarra From Detroit season 2 is officially streaming now on Paramount+, bringing back Diarra Kilpatrick alongside the show’s hilarious, unpredictable ensemble—including fan favorites DomiNque Perry as Aja Edwards and Bryan Terrell Clark as Mr. Tea. The eight-episode season premiered with two episodes on July 29, with the remaining episodes rolling out weekly.

And if Season 1 introduced us to Diarra’s world, Season 2 reminds us that this story has always been bigger than the woman at the center of the investigation.

Let’s start with Aja.

Aja is one of those friends everybody needs in their corner—but probably shouldn’t give too much information to when you’re trying to stay out of trouble.

She’s loyal, funny, outspoken, and always ready to ride for Diarra (wig, beard, and all) even when Diarra’s latest investigation sounds completely ridiculous.

“Oh my God. It’s going to be a lot of action with us. Fallouts, make ups. Did we get shot at? I don’t know. Did we survive? We don’t know,”DomiNque Perry told BOSSIP about Aja. “It’s a lot of conversation, but it’s very sexy. We’re in the summer now, so it’s elevated to me. Like us as a friend group, we have some additions. They come in, and they are in our now group, but it’s like we still stay together. We still are trying to deal with Diarra and all of her shenanigans, and trying to push through. She’s taking us through there.”

And let’s be honest, Diarra has a gift for making ridiculous situations sound completely reasonable.

Aja’s importance to the series comes from the chemistry she shares with Diarra and the rest of the crew. She’s not simply there to react to Diarra’s latest shenanigans; she’s part of the emotional fabric that makes the show’s wildest moments feel grounded, but this season Perry reveals Aja is still down with the crew but also working on herself.

“I think for Aja, she’s trying to get her own self together, but still trying to be a friend, but it’s like, I don’t know. It’s not really her cup of tea to be a detective. But it’s like she’s thrown into this because she is such a good person, and she is such a good friend. So it’s like, we like it, but we don’t, and then we start to like it.”

Perry has also become a familiar face for audiences who know her from projects like Insecure, Snowfall, Bust Down and Rap Sh!t, but Aja gives her another opportunity to flex that particular brand of comedy that makes a character feel like somebody you actually know. 

Then there’s Mr. Tea, played by Bryan Terrell Clark.

If Aja is the friend who can meet Diarra at her level, Mr. Tea is operating in a completely different lane. He’s mysterious, charismatic, and connected to the world Diarra keeps finding herself pulled deeper into.

“Mr. Tea is definitely back and looking for some fun this summer. That’s what I love about him,” Clark said. “He is living his best life, and then his delusional friend pulls him into the wildest adventure; but let’s be honest, we always want to be thrown into it.

Season 2 gives both characters more room to exist within the show’s increasingly complicated mystery.

This season finds Diarra trying to deal with the complicated business of moving on from Chris while simultaneously uncovering even more secrets lurking beneath Detroit’s surface. The result is another wild combination of romance, comedy, danger, and mystery.

And that’s really the secret sauce of this show.

Diarra From Detroit doesn’t force its characters into neat little boxes. Aja can be the best friend, the comic relief, and the person willing to jump into the fire. Mr. Tea can be charming, suspicious, and potentially dangerous—all within the same storyline.

That’s why the ensemble works.

“It was really important to Diarra and myself [for Mr. Tea] to reflect real people and a real experience. I was just saying, I feel like there’s been a drop in queer representation on television, and it’s even less for people of color. So at the end of the day, for us, it’s just important to make sure that we’re real; that’s why these characters aren’t perfect people.

“We can always lean into the stereotype, but it’s not interesting. People are so much more interesting than sometimes the work I see, and I think what’s cool about Tea is that he is just a regular person. He your cousin, brother, or your best friend from school.

The chemistry between Perry, Clark, Kilpatrick, and the rest of the cast creates a world that feels lived-in rather than manufactured, and Season 2 doubles down on that chemistry while expanding the mystery and raising the stakes.

With guest appearances from Method Man, Morris Chestnut, Glynn Turman, Bokeem Woodbine, Amber Riley, Lil Rel Howery, Lovie Simone, Nicco Annan, Skilla Baby, Icewear Vezzo, and Shoniqua Shandai, the guest list alone lets you know that Diarra’s investigation is about to get real crowded.

But ultimately, what makes Season 2 worth watching is that Diarra doesn’t have to solve this case alone.

She has Aja, Mr. Tea, and a whole crew of friends, enemies, lovers, and questionable associates who somehow keep getting dragged into her latest adventure.

And if Season 2 proves anything, it’s that when Diarra starts asking questions, everybody better be ready for the answers.

If you’ve ever had to stop your meemaw, mama, or another family member from clicking a suspicious link, Comcast is adding another line of defense that’s (much) more effective than a millennial finger wag.

The company has announced the launch of Xfinity Shield, a new platform that turns Xfinity WiFi into an always-on layer of cybersecurity, home monitoring and family protection.

According to an official press release, the average Xfinity customer now connects 36 devices to WiFi, increasing the number of potential entry points for online threats. The company says it identifies, filters, and blocks an average of 30 million threats every day.

“Xfinity Shield represents our vision for the next era of the intelligent home,” said Jon Gieselman, Comcast’s Chief Growth Officer, Connectivity & Platforms. “We believe the network should do more than connect devices. It should help protect the people, their personal information, and everything within their homes.”

Xfinity Shield Combines Cybersecurity, Home & Family Protection

At the center of the platform is WiFi Shield, included at no additional cost for Xfinity Internet customers with eligible Advanced Xfinity Gateways. The service delivers three layers of protection built directly into the WiFi experience: digital, physical, and family protection.

For digital protection, Xfinity CyberSecure works at the network level to help automatically protect connected devices from malware, hackers, phishing attempts, and other online threats before they reach devices in the home. Because it operates through the WiFi network rather than individual devices, CyberSecure can continuously assess threats across connected devices.

For physical protection, the opt-in WiFi Motion feature uses the Xfinity Gateway and connected devices to detect unexpected movement inside the home without cameras or traditional motion detectors. Customers can receive alerts through the Xfinity app, and Comcast says the technology does not record video, capture images or identify individuals.

For family protection, Family Settings allows households to create individual profiles and organize devices by person. Parents and caregivers can manage screen time, set device limits, pause WiFi, and create schedules based on their family’s needs.

The features and their notifications can also be customized using three protection modes in the Xfinity app: Home Watch, Away Watch, and Dark Watch.

Customers seeking additional protection can upgrade to Shield Select for $15 per month. The service adds an indoor camera, door/window sensor, cloud video storage, AI-enhanced monitoring, and 24/7 urgent response capabilities.

So now you can ensure your whole family is secure.

Xfinity Shield launched nationwide Aug. 18, with additional capabilities expected in 2027.

Diarra Brickland’s back on the case, and breaking up with Chris is clearly on the back burner amid Diarra From Detroit season two’s mystery and Motor City mess.

If you thought Diarra could finally catch a break after the wild events of Season 1, well, chile, this season is proving that Detroit had other plans.

Diarra From Detroit is dominating with its second season, and creator, writer, executive producer, and star Diarra Kilpatrick has somehow managed to make the mystery even messier, the laughs even louder, and Diarra’s personal life even more complicated.

The eight-episode sophomore season is continuing with new episodes dropping weekly on Wednesdays on Paramount+. Most recently, we saw that Diarra, Aja, and Tea are into more mess–in particular, trying to exonerate Chris as the Coney killer and going to great (illegal) lengths to do so.

And while Season 1 was centered around Diarra’s determination to find the man who ghosted her, Season 2 asks an even more relatable question: How the hell do you break up with somebody after you damn near died trying to find them?

The answer, apparently, is you don’t. At least not before stumbling into another mystery.

Season 2 picks up after Diarra rescues Deonte—now reclaiming his identity as Chris—and attempts to settle into something resembling a normal relationship. The problem? Neither Diarra nor Chris has exactly escaped the emotional baggage of everything they survived.

In the season’s opening episodes, a mysterious combination lock, a hidden cassette tape, and secrets surrounding Chris’ family lead Diarra straight back into detective mode. The woman may claim she’s trying to live a normal life, but her inner “Hood Nancy Drew” refuses to clock out.

And of course we all want to know: what happened to Danger?! Does he grow and evolve after finding out the earth-shattering truth, or does he double down on the dysfunction? Actor Jon Chaffin explains that Danger definitely makes a shift this season, and if you’ve been watching, you know it’s due to a new woman in his life; Bailey.

“[Danger] is definitely pivoting. He did a Dwyane Wade Euro step in the second season,” Jon Chaffin told BOSSIP.

“What I love about Danger is that you get to meet him; in the first season, you meet him robbing a house. It’s like he’s doing something crazy. And in the second season, when we get to find out where he’s at, it’s another just beautiful moment of discovery.

He’s on a journey this season that’s really picking up the pieces of his life after that bombshell that was dropped on him in season one. Now he’s trying to figure out who he is, and he has to leave Detroit in order to find out. So he’s starting off the second season way off into elements and-with another woman.”

Then comes the armoire.

What sounds like the most random missing-furniture situation imaginable quickly turns into another dangerous rabbit hole involving a family heirloom, buried secrets, and a conspiracy that reaches much deeper than Diarra anticipated. Along the way, she’s also forced to confront some very grown-woman questions about love, motherhood, and whether the future she wants actually lines up with the man she’s trying to build it with. 

That balance is exactly what makes Diarra From Detroit such a refreshing watch, and according to show creator Diarra Kilpatrick, that was the intent when she created the show.

“I want people to keep watching, but I think I was really just trying to find something that I would like to watch,” Diarra Kilpatrick said. When I’m looking for something and I’m spending a whole hour scrolling instead of just picking something, I wanted something that checked all my boxes, which was stakes and comedy.”

Kilpatrick has created a series that refuses to live inside one genre. It’s part mystery, part comedy, part relationship drama, and part love letter to Detroit. One minute you’re genuinely trying to figure out who’s lying, and the next you’re laughing at the absolute absurdity of how Diarra got herself into the situation in the first place.

And Season 2 takes that formula even further. 

Adding even more flavor to the season is a stacked guest cast that includes Method Man, Morris Chestnut, Glynn Turman, Bokeem Woodbine, Amber Riley, Lil Rel Howery, Lovie Simone, Nicco Annan, Skilla Baby, and Icewear Vezzo, alongside returning favorites like Phylicia Rashad and Harry Lennix.

The second season of Diarra From Detroit is proving that Season 1 wasn’t a fluke. If anything, Diarra Kilpatrick has expanded the world, raised the stakes, and given her beautifully chaotic heroine even more room to get herself—and everybody around her—in trouble.

Because apparently, in Diarra’s world, every solved mystery is just an invitation to find another one.

And honestly?

We wouldn’t have it any other way.

A decade after the mid-2010s era gave us some of the internet’s most unforgettable moments, Taco Bell is bringing back a few of its own icons.

Beginning Aug. 20, Taco Bell’s third chapter of its Decades Menu will transport fans straight back to 2016 with four fan-favorite menu items: the Naked Chicken Chalupa, Beefy Crunch Burrito, Meximelt® and Caramel Apple Empanada.

The limited-time lineup is part throwback, part comfort food and very much a reminder of what fans loved about Taco Bell back in the day.

The 2016 Taco Bell Favorites Are Back

Leading the comeback is the Naked Chicken Chalupa, which originally tested in Kansas City in 2016. The wildly memorable item swaps the traditional chalupa shell for a crispy chicken shell made with all-white-meat chicken marinated in Mexican-inspired spices.

It comes loaded with cheddar cheese, lettuce, diced tomatoes and creamy Avocado Ranch Sauce. The Naked Chicken Chalupa will be available for $5.99, or as part of the $9 Discovery Luxe Box, which also includes a Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito, Crunchy Taco, Chips & Nacho Cheese Sauce and a medium fountain drink.

Also returning is the Beefy Crunch Burrito, a cult favorite that has inspired plenty of fan campaigns over the years. The $2.79 burrito combines seasoned beef, Flamin’ Hot Fritos®, seasoned rice, reduced-fat sour cream and nacho cheese sauce. Taco Bell Rewards Members can get their hands on it early before the full menu drops nationwide.

The Meximelt® is also making its way back for $2.99. The classic features seasoned beef, freshly prepared pico de gallo and a warm three-cheese blend wrapped in a soft flour tortilla.

And for anyone who remembers Taco Bell’s sweet treats, the Caramel Apple Empanada is returning for $2.99. The dessert pairs warm apple pieces and caramel inside a crispy golden pastry — exactly the kind of nostalgic bite fans have been asking to see again.

“For decades, Taco Bell has been woven into the lives of our fans, and there’s something special about revisiting the moments and experiences that made 2016 distinctly memorable,” Luis Restrepo, chief marketing officer of Taco Bell North America, said in a statement. “Whether you remember 2016 or another era of Taco Bell, the Decades Menu is about reconnecting with the flavor and feelings that fans loved the first time around, while giving a new generation the chance to discover it for themselves.”

Taco Bell Is Leaning All the Way Into Nostalgia

The throwback doesn’t stop at the food.

Taco Bell is teaming up with brands that embody the mid-2010s, including Divine, Camp Snap and Anti-Social Social Club, for collaborations and experiences inspired by the era.

On Aug. 25, Taco Bell Rewards Members will get access to a limited-edition #TBTB Starter Pack featuring collaborations with streetwear brand Anti-Social Social Club and screen-free digital camera company Camp Snap.

The brand is also launching an in-app scavenger hunt-style game that will give users the chance to unlock exclusive offers throughout a three-week period. New offers will drop weekly between Aug. 25 and Sept. 14.

Meanwhile, Taco Bell is bringing fans back to the days of six-second videos through a collaboration with Divine, an AI-free looping video app inspired by Vine. Fans can use the code TACO-BELL for early access to the app and its collection of more than 2.5 million Vine classics.

“This is much more than a collaboration about nostalgia,” Alice Chan, CMO of Divine, said. “It sets the standard for how we want brands to show up in Divine – in ways that are joyful, creative and a natural extension of the community, not an interruption to it.”

With its latest Decades Menu, Taco Bell is betting that 2016 nostalgia hits just as hard as a Beefy Crunch Burrito after a long day. And judging by how often fans have asked for these menu favorites to return, the throwback lineup may be exactly what they’ve been craving.

There has been a new development in the case of Karmelo Anthony. After a brief hearing on Wednesday morning, the defense team for Anthony was granted a recusal, and a new judge will hear Anthony’s appeal.

AP reports that attorneys representing Anthony requested that a new judge hear his case as the first step in the appeals process. The team argued that a recusal was necessary due to Judge John Roach Jr.’s strict courtroom rules during the trial and pointed to an interview he gave after the trial concluded.

According to CBS News, the defense played the interview Roach gave shortly after the verdict was issued in Anthony’s case. During the interview, Roach said his impression of Anthony was that of “a nice young man who committed a crime.” Roach went on to say that he felt the jury reached the correct verdict in the case. After playing the interview, the defense rested their case. 

The prosecution then gave a brief argument, saying, “I’m not sure it’s our job at this point to defend the judge.” At 10 a.m., the judge ruled in favor of the defense and granted the recusal. Supporters for Anthony gathered outside the courthouse this morning and began chanting “Free Karmelo” after the recusal was granted. 

Karmelo Anthony, 19, was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison after a Dallas jury rejected his claims of self-defense earlier this summer. Last year, Anthony was at a track meet involving several schools in the Frisco Independent School District. Metcalf confronted Anthony for sitting under a tent that was assigned to Metcalf’s team. Metcalf pushed Anthony, to which Anthony responded by fatally stabbing Metcalf in the chest. 

Anthony’s case has become a social media firestorm given the racial makeup of the people involved. Anthony is Black, and Metcalf was a white teenager. Look, we know how the American legal system works. It will always take the side of whiteness. Which is what makes Anthony’s case so frustrating. 

I got into a few fights growing up. I got my ass beat, and beat my fair share of ass. But at no point did the violence ever escalate beyond throwing hands, and at no point did I even think stabbing a person was the thing to do. That’s because my mom explained to me at the age of 12 that the color of my skin meant that I would face far more severe consequences for any wrongdoing than my white peers. 

That’s just as true today as it was 20 years ago. Kyle Rittenhouse can gun down two people, call it self-defense, and not only will he get away with it, but he’ll become a face of the conservative movement. If a Black kid does the same thing, he’ll spend the majority of his life behind bars. 

It’s bad enough that Karmelo Anthony is a Black teenager who stabbed a white kid. The fact that the stabbing occurred in Texas, one of the most conservative states in the country, only makes his attempt at an appeal more of an uphill battle.

Everybody and their mama pulled up to see the GWOAT, Claressa Shields, reclaim her unified middleweight titles with a sixth-round TKO victory against Kaye Scott in an electric boxing spectacle that sent the star-studded crowd into a frenzy.

Notable attendees in the building included Usher, Brandy, 2 Chainz, Lil Baby, Kevin Gates, Floyd Mayweather, Steve Harvey, Porsha Williams, Big Meech, Mo’Nique, Dr. Cheyenne Bryant, and many more, with Latto setting the tone by walking the champ out ahead of the highly anticipated match-up.

Also in attendance were some of Atlanta’s finest (and flyest) who had a timeee while serving fight night fineness in viral videos online.

As a challenger, Shields took on the challenge slimming down by 15 pounds and getting in, what she described as, her “most disciplined” state of mind.

“This was a really hard camp,” she said after the fight. “I cut 38 pounds. I was at 198 pounds and got down to 160. This is the most disciplined I’ve been since the Olympics, I feel like.”

“I was actually just trying to figure her out,” she continued. “She was stronger than what I thought. She was very strong, and I knew that with me cutting the weight that I cut that I didn’t want to exert too much early. So I was trying to make sure I could deal with her strength and not get caught with nothing crazy because I’m not as strong as I feel at 175 [pounds].”

In the 6th round, Shields made Scott go night night with a devastating knockout blow that lead to the latter’s team withdrawing her after she failed to respond to the referee’s count.

Riley Burruss is opening up about the backlash she’s received over her messy Next Gen NYC moment, and according to the reality star, the backlash went waaaay beyond fans dragging her online and led to racist texts and death threats.

During an appearance on Gia Giudice’s Casual Chaos podcast, Burruss addressed the fallout from the episode where she became heavily intoxicated during a girls’ night, clashed with Georgia McCann, and appeared to threaten to throw a glass. The moment quickly became one of the season’s biggest talking points, with viewers questioning her behavior and her subsequent frustration with bestie Ariana Biermann.

As previously reported by BOSSIP, Burruss acknowledged that she crossed the line during the explosive night. She confronted Georgia about alleged drug use, took shots at her finances, and appeared to pick up a glass during the argument. Burruss later apologized and admitted that watching the episode back left her embarrassed.

But apparently, the internet took things much further than reality TV criticism.

According to All About TRH, Burruss revealed that her phone number was allegedly leaked after the episode aired, resulting in racist text messages and even death threats.

“I got racist texts, and so I had to literally turn off my phone for a week,” she explained.

And Riley is not pretending she was completely innocent in what viewers saw. In fact, she says she understands why people were upset.

“I get it. The way I showed up on TV was really not okay,” she said, even admitting that if viewers wanted to call her a “spoiled brat,” she could understand where they were coming from.

That distinction is important to Burruss. She can handle people criticizing her actions, but she says racism is where the line gets drawn.

“When it comes to like race, like all of those things, like the microaggressions, that’s not okay,” she said. Burruss specifically called out receiving messages containing racial slurs.

The backlash also reportedly complicated her relationship with her costar/Kim Zolciak’s daughter Ariana Biermann.

When Ariana previously discussed their friendship on Watch What Happens Live, she said Riley had not reached out following the episode.

Burruss told Gia Giduice that Ariana actually did not have the full story because she had essentially disconnected from her phone while dealing with the harassment.

The good news? Riley and Ariana appear to have worked through their issues. But this situation is another reminder that watching reality TV does not give viewers permission to make real life threats.

Drag the scene. Debate the behavior. Call out the foolishness. But racist harassment and death threats?

Vibes were high in the ATL as Claressa “GWOAT” Shields stepped into State Farm Arena and reminded everyone exactly why her name is synonymous with greatness.

On Saturday, Aug. 15, Shields delivered a dominant performance against Australia’s Kaye Scott, stopping the champion in the sixth round to reclaim the WBA and WBC middleweight titles. The victory improved Shields’ undefeated professional record to 19-0 and marked her fourth career knockout. 

And because Atlanta knows how to turn any major sporting event into a cultural function, the stars were definitely outside.

Usher, Brandy, 2 CHAINZ, Kevin Gates, and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. were among the multitude of famous faces watching the action from ringside, while Atlanta’s own Latto accompanied Shields during her big night in the A.

But before the punches started flying, BOSSIP was in the building for a special event surrounding Hulu’s They Fight, co-hosted by celebrated Atlanta photographer and cultural curator Cam Kirk.

Guests gathered inside the Hulu suite for an elevated fight-night experience complete with complimentary cocktails, bites, and, of course, a perfect view of all the action unfolding inside State Farm Arena.

The evening served as an excellent mix of entertainment and boxing, as They Fight carries a powerful message about resilience, redemption, family, and the importance of having someone in your corner.

Led by André Holland, Samira Wiley, and Wendell Pierce, the film follows Walt Manigan, a reformed ex-con who returns home to Southeast Washington, D.C., determined to rebuild his life. That journey unexpectedly leads him back to the boxing gym he once tried to leave behind, where mentoring a new generation of young fighters gives him another shot at finding purpose.

But much like the stories that unfold inside the ring, They Fight is about battles that extend far beyond boxing. At its heart, the film explores the fight for family, community, purpose, and a better future—and the people willing to step into someone’s corner when they need it most.

That message of perseverance and second chances made Claressa Shields’ historic night in Atlanta an especially fitting backdrop for Hulu’s celebration. From Walt’s fight to reclaim his life on screen to Shields continuing to cement her legacy in real life, the evening served as a reminder that sometimes the biggest victories happen long before—or after—the final bell rings.

The film’s emphasis on mentorship, resilience, community, and second chances made Shields’ historic night an especially fitting backdrop.

Shields entered the bout after making the massive journey back down to middleweight, dropping 38 pounds during a grueling 14-week training camp. Once the bell rang, however, there was little doubt about who controlled the ring. Shields used her speed, precision, and body attack to wear Scott down before exploding in the sixth. 

A powerful hook sent Scott into the ropes before Shields unloaded a barrage of punches, eventually forcing Scott’s corner to throw in the towel at the 1:38 mark of the round. 

The impressive bout solidified Shields as she made history, becoming only the second fighter in more than a century to win a heavyweight championship and later drop down to capture a title in a lower division. The bout also marked the first women’s boxing headliner in State Farm Arena history.

Between Shields’ championship performance, a star-studded ringside, and Hulu bringing the message behind They Fight directly into the world it celebrates, it was a knockout night for sports and culture in Atlanta.

K. Michelle is clearing up Kandi Buruss‘ “mean girl” claims, and sending shade while doing it. After Kandi addressed the perceived #RHOA shade on The Big Tigger Morning Show, the country crooner pointed out that she never actually called Kandi a mean girl before turning her attention to co-host Francesca Amiker and tossing a messy allegation into the mix.

“I personally feel that mean girls can’t call other girls mean girls, it doesn’t work,” she told Amiker, referring to K. Michelle, who Amiker alleged directly called her a mean girl.”

“We’ve seen her literally go in on people multiple times on camera,” the RHOA alum continued. “Calling people out their name, doing all the things, and I have to say she was a mean girl, too.”

In other words, Kandi’s philosophy is pretty simple: if you’re “not nice to me, I’m not nice to you.”

Later on during the interview with Francesca Amiker, the Xscape singer also blamed her no-nonsense approach on being a “straightforward” Taurus. When she has something to say, apparently, she’s saying it.

“Whatever I’m thinking I say it… and I don’t really care,” she said.

Kandi also revealed that the tension between her and K. Michelle didn’t exactly appear out of thin air. She says their issues have been simmering behind the scenes for a while, but she never felt the need to put all of their business on blast or tell the public “everything” about the drama.

Well…that seems to have changed.

K. Michelle had this to say after Kandi’s Big Tigger Morning Show interview aired.

K. Michelle quickly caught wind of Kandi’s interview and came through with her own shady response:

“Actually I didn’t say that, but that lady did say you was Tigger’s side piece.”

Her comment was directed at host Francesca Amiker who is currently suing Big Tigger’s estranged wife for accusing her of having an affair with her co-host.

Yikes!

So, What Started All This?

The Kandi and K. Michelle tension has been heating up both on and off camera during Season 17 of #RHOA. The drama reportedly kicked into another gear after Shamea left K. Michelle while the two were hanging out to meet up with Kandi, and K. Michelle wasn’t invited to tag along.

The reason apparently came down to Kandi’s loyalty to Love & Hip Hop star Rasheeda, who has a long-running history with K. Michelle.

While speaking with Carlos King in June, Shamea recalled K. Michelle asking why she had been left out of the plans.

“K. Michelle asked me, ‘Why y’all ain’t invite me?’” Shamea revealed. “I’m like, ‘Well, girl, you know. Like, now you know damn well like, Kandi and Rasheeda, she…Kandi’s loyal to a fault. She’s not gonna…’ Like, I never said Kandi hates you [or] she don’t like you.”

Shamea said she eventually told Kandi that K. Michelle wanted to join them. But according to Shamea, Kandi wasn’t budging.

“Nah, I’m not, you know, you know, I can’t do that. I mean, I like her, but I can’t…Rasheeda is my girl.”

At first, Shamea didn’t think much of the exchange. But as these things tend to do on #RHOA, the situation quickly snowballed.

During this season of #RHOA, K. Michelle vented about the situation in a confessional, suggesting that Kandi is getting in the way of her friendship with Shamea.

“I have Shamea’s back more than anything,” she stated during the confessional. “But for you to keep saying to me, ‘Nobody in Atlanta wants me to be your friend,’ I don’t want to hear about no goddamn Kandi Koated Nights.”

And Kandi? She was apparently just as tired of seeing her name dragged into the latest #RHOA mess.

Taking to Threads, the Xscape singer gave a blunt reaction to all the online chatter:

“I’m just trying to live my best life & every other week my name gets dragged into some bulls**t.”

Mind you, this is the second time Kandi’s denied “mean girl” accusations. She recently slammed Tamar Braxton for giving her that title before alleging that Tamar called her a b*** at a recent event and shadily suggested that she shoudl get on PREP, which is a medication that prevents the transmission of HIV, because her ex Todd Tucker is a part of the LGBT community.

When it comes to Atlanta drama, it sounds like Kandi is ready to clock out, but the drama keeps finding her.

Cathy and Leon Montgomery survived Russian mobsters, murder, and $10 million worth of trouble in Season 1of Average Joe, and the married duo is back for Season 2 once again, proving that couples who commit crimes together apparently stay together.

Average Joe returns for Season 2 TODAY, August 19, on Paramount+, and while Deon Cole’s Joe Washington remains at the center of the chaos, we’re particularly excited to see Cynthia Kaye McWilliams and Malcolm Barrett return as married couple Cathy and Leon Montgomery supporting him through it all, because if Joe Washington is going to get himself wrapped up with dangerous criminals again, he definitely needs his most hilariously ride-or-die friends nearby.

When audiences first met Leon and Cathy, they appeared to be a relatively ordinary married couple living a relatively ordinary Pittsburgh life.

Then Joe’s late father stole millions from the Russian mob.

And “ordinary” went straight out the window. Season 1 quickly transformed him from supportive best friend to reluctant criminal accomplice as Joe’s crew attempted to locate the missing money—and stay alive long enough to spend it. While Leon was a little reluctant to embrace the chaos in season 1, actor Malcolm Barrett reveals that fans can expect a completely different version of “Leon” for season 2.

“In the first season, should I say, Leon was a little giving his like the side eye, like Kathy was giving the side eye because she was into the detective and the murder mystery and then he started, so now he’s starting to feel it too and embrace the detective and he’s ready because he’s in the crime world this season,” Malcolm Barrett said.

“It’s been fun being able to grow in that way because I think it was a slow build for Leon like to get into that sort of thing. Near the end of season one, you see him have a fist fight, and you see him use a sniper rifle, and I think season two, he builds on those sort of skills and aspects that were sort of at play near the end of the first season.”

But every Leon needs a Cathy, and Cynthia Kaye McWilliams’ character is the right person to be around when things go completely off the rails.

Cathy entered the story as Leon’s outspoken, true-crime-obsessed wife, only to discover that all those hours watching murder mysteries were about to become extremely useful.

Because once bodies started dropping, Cathy didn’t panic; she started problem-solving.

McWilliams’ sharp comedic timing and unapologetic delivery made Cathy one of Season 1’s scene-stealers. While everyone else is attempting to process the insanity surrounding them, Cathy often feels like she’s been preparing for this moment from her couch for years. The comedic actress stands out as the crime-show-obsessed wife who steps up when things get tense, but it’s her ability to embrace the role without doubling down on the stereotypes that truly makes her excellent.

“I’m always going to be a Black woman,” McWilliams said. “So any character that I portray, I never try to approach as a type. I always say, ‘What’s the truth in this moment right now? What are the given circumstances? Who am I in this moment, and who am I in that moment with I think that the key to authentic storytelling is moment-to-moment truth, because truth is ever-evolving. And it is because of that that we’re allowed to be so many different things. So as a Black woman, as a Black person, as a person of color in society, I am always interested in storytelling that expands us.”

Together, Cathy and Leon bring another layer to what makes Average Joe work so well. And it helps that Cynthia and Malcolm are married in real life.

They’re funny, but their relationship isn’t simply there for comic relief. Watching an everyday marriage get dropped into extraordinary circumstances gives the show’s dark comedy another dimension.

These aren’t professional criminals or highly trained assassins; they’re regular everyday married people trying to survive their friend’s family drama.

Unfortunately, that family drama involves the Russian mob, and nothing says marital bonding quite like an international life-or-death crisis.

Created by Robb Cullen, “Average Joe” has found its sweet spot by combining crime, suspense, family drama, and an extremely dark sense of humor into a story about regular people making increasingly irregular decisions—and Cathy and Leon might be the perfect example.

For better or worse, indeed.

Photos of Olandria and Nic at the wedding had already made the rounds, with fans wondering if the exes had quietly gotten back together following their split announcement. The Vogue photo gave everyone an even better look at the former couple back together, and naturally, the reunion rumors only got louder.

Olandria and Nic met during Season 7 of Love Island USA and split in July, per reports from People. After the Aug. 15 wedding, Nic was asked point-blank about whether he and Olandria were officially “back together” during a video interview. Unfortunately for curious fans, he kept things intentionally vague.

“I would love to tell you guys, but I’m going to keep that private for now,” he said.

He did, however, confirm that the two had a great time at the wedding, adding, “We did enjoy ourselves tremendously at Karl and Jordyn’s wedding last night. It was amazing.”

Back in July, a source confirmed to People that Nic and Olandria called it quits, saying, “The distance between them and their busy schedules made it challenging to maintain their connection. They still remain close friends. They share a deep love and respect for each other and will always support one another whenever possible.”

Nic followed up the announcement by posting a statement to his subscribers on TikTok, writing: “The rumors are true. I didn’t want to give people false hope, so I want to clear the air. We will continue to love each other ALWAYS. It’s a sensitive, as well as a private subject; thank you for respecting our privacy.”
