STAMFORD, Conn. — The Stanley Cup finals' Game 2 drew the most viewers for the NHL on NBC Sports Network since the cable channel started televising the league in 2006.

The Boston Bruins' 2-1 overtime win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night averaged 3.96 million viewers. That's more than triple the 1.18 million for the first finals game on the network last year, Game 3 between the Devils and Kings.

BOSTON — Claude Julien doesn't pay much attention to compliments or criticism.

Just give him a pair of skates, players to teach and a spot behind the bench and the coach of the Boston Bruins is thrilled.

"If I could come to work every day, do this stuff, then walk out of the rink and nobody knew who I was, I'd be the happiest guy in the world," he says. "That's just the way I am. It's my personality."

NEW YORK — Amid reports that Alain Vigneault is the New York Rangers' choice to replace fired coach John Tortorella, the team still isn't ready to make that announcement.

Vigneault has emerged from a group of candidates that included former Rangers captain Mark Messier as the favorite to land the job. He interviewed at the club's organizational meetings in California and then met with owner James Dolan in New York.

A Rangers spokesman says no announcement was expected Sunday.

EDMONTON, Alberta — The Edmonton Oilers have confirmed that prospect Kristians Pelss has died. He was 20.

The Oilers released a statement Saturday saying the team was deeply saddened by the loss of Pelss, who went missing Tuesday and was feared drowned in a river near his home in Riga, Latvia.

Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish said in a statement: "This is the news we feared. Kristians was an outstanding man and we feel terrible he has left us at such a young age. I can't imagine how painful this situation is for the Pelss family."

CHICAGO — Toward the end of their title defense, the Los Angeles Kings were spending a lot of time on the training table. Captain Dustin Brown was playing with a torn ligament in his left knee, just one of several injuries that became public knowledge after the Stanley Cup champs were eliminated by the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference finals.

Gregory Campbell broke his right leg while helping the Boston Bruins kill off a power play in the third round of the playoffs, and the center stayed on the ice until his team was able to clear the puck out of the zone.

CHICAGO — Much as they would love to get big contributions from Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, the Chicago Blackhawks have shown they can win even when their biggest stars aren't lighting up the scoreboard.

Depth pays off, and this is the reward.

The Blackhawks are now three wins from their second championship in four years after taking a 4-3 triple-overtime thriller from the Boston Bruins in Game 1.
