Does Your Website show up on Local Listings?

That’s a bit question nowadays. With SEO slowly giving away to social media, recommendations and like, plus one and retweet buttons, getting traffic to your website and getting noticed on the web is becoming more and more a question of being in all PLACES and not just Google. Of course, Google is still the behemoth of traffic when it comes to search but statistics show that more and more people are using other means of search in order to find local businesses. Recently I purchased one of these new Android phones, the Sensation 4G. I love this thing, it’s awesome, better than the Iphone in my view. But what called my attention was the integration with local services and maps for local businesses. There are many apps out there that will find you the best food delivery services, where to get some shoes, a massage parlor, whatever you enter on your search and those results that come up could be coming from anywhere such as Bing’s new local service, CitySearch’s local reviews and of course Googlemaps itself. But more than Ever, it is very important to make sure that your business is listed in all of those places and also on Facebook with a fanpage but even beyond that on the Facebook marketplace as well.

Should you go through the trouble of designing your website for the Ipad?

I read this page at my favorite WordPress website, WPMU.org and I quote here…

Last week I looked at how you can build a WordPress website on your iPad. This week I am doing it the other way. How can you make your website look good on an iPad? Arguably, I could be looking at all sorts of tablets. I could be a little more encompassing and look at Android as well. However, the iPad’s market share makes it the device to be adapting to right now. Check out the market share for Q10 2010:

What’s interesting is that the Ipad already has unix bagged, but these things are what? One year old? Wow. It’s for sure that it will catch on cause honestly, I can’t wait to get one myself.

So yeah, the answer is yes, the real question is HOW???

And the answer to me, well, just as in EVERYTHING else related to small businesses and the web, WORDPRESS.

So it happens, WordPress has a plugin, the OnSwipe that actually let’s you preview how your website will look on mobiles of all kinds. It’s a slam dunk this one. I tried to get an affiliate link because I thought for sure EVERYONE (who has a WP website already) should get it. And if you don’t have WordPress yet, what are you waiting for? It’s FREE.
