Honestly I did not know much about US-Deathers BEYOND FATAL when I received this CD, but I gave it a spin and learned fast what BEYOND FATAL is about – brutal, not too technical Death Metal comparable to acts like old CANNIBAL CORPSE mixed with SKINLESS and cult Death Metallers BAPHOMET also called BANISHED. The whole stuff is not too fast and mostly kept very rhythmic, mid-paced and of crushing heaviness, but sometimes even a sudden blast part sets in to prevent “Sanctuary In Misery” from getting boring or too soft. The vocals vary from Chris Barnes - like growling to DEEDS OF FLESH - like gurgling and screams are featured as well. Maybe you already got the clue, but this CD is in no way original, innovative or unique stuff. But despite that, it is cool anyway, especially because of its dynamically grooving tempo, many great grinding riffs and the not over - technical approach, which often causes that albums rush by, but do not leave anything memorable. “Sanctuary In Misery” offers some real highlights, like the thunderous ‘Desensitised Communication’ or the great last song ‘Mark Of The Beast’. Sound wise BEYOND FATAL’s debut turned out very sharp, natural and powerful, but it is definitely not anything extraordinary. I am fortunate to have this CD, because it was certainly done with heart and engagement and it was fun listening to it, but I would not have spend my last few bucks on it. If you search for an entertaining, good brutal Death Metal album, look for it in a shop near you and be sure to give it a chance. I’m not sure, if this CD is BEYOND FATAL’s debut album, because then it is even great and shows that the guys have the talent to become much more.

Cool, heavy thrash/death which at times has the playful vibe of early Six Feet Under or mid, late-90's Entombed ("Return to the Tombs of the Cursed Blind Dead"), but there are songs which thrash admirably, accompanied by more interesting riffage ("Flesheater"). The sound is never very aggressive, and the songs stick from each other, making up for an entertaining listen.

The bands name, the titles of the tracks and the whole package seems too old school to me. And I just realized that the line up contains one well-known musician, Nicke Andersson, who has worked with bands like ENTOMBED, THE HELLACOPTERS and DAEMON. Something tells me that I will have to face a pretty rotten work here.

DEATH BREATH were formed in 2005 by Mr. Nicke Andersson, one of the most active musicians of the Metal scene. The band's first release was an EP ("Death Breath") in 2006, which was issued through Black Lodge. The band's debut album "Stinking Up The Night" was released later the same year. Now, in 2007 the band releases one more EP entitled "Let It Stink".

This EP contains seven brand new recorded songs. As I mentioned in the start of this review, it all seemed too underground to me, and in fact, this EP has a totally underground mentality. The production is definitely not something you expect to come across, since it will remind you of good 80's productions. The songs are not all brand new DEATH BREATH songs, but there are three covers of old classics not only from the Metal scene. The band has covered DISCHARGE's "Maimed And Slaughtered" (cult Punk/Hardcore/Crossover band), BATHORY's "Sacrifice", as well as G.B.H.'s (legendary Punk band) "Lycanthropy"! All three covers sound pretty good! Whoever expects to listen to something that reflects the current situation of the Metal scene will be disappointed. DEATH BREATH is a band that seems to be forgotten in the 80's. Their sound reminds of bands like early ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER and UNLEASHED (someone bring back the early Swedish Death Metal scene please), as well as the high and mighty VENOM. Forget about shiny and polished sound in this release. The only thing you will find is relentless retro Death Metal with primitive brutal vocals and Rock & Roll guitars!

Even though this EP is really good for what it is intended to be, I want to be fair with it, myself and the rest of the Metal scene. What if this EP was coming from an underground band from Mexico for example? Would I treat it in the same way I treated DEATH BREATH? Do you want to know the truth? Yes, I would! And that's why I believe that DEATH BREATH are a fucking cool band, but they don't seem to have to offer something more than a reminder of what Death Metal used to be back in the 80's.

If you miss the early days of European Death Metal and you are attracted to gore stuff like zombies you will definitely like this release. Whoever buys this EP will also have the chance to watch the video clip for the song "Death Breath", which is originally featured in the "Stinking Up The Night" album. Think about it carefully before doing anything.

Slasher Dave from Acid Witch takes us on a romp through the 80's with this awesomely catchy death/doom/rock-metal hybrid. Sounds like Acid Witch meets Frightmare to me...just insanely fun, ripping old school death metal (with plenty of cheesy 80's horror movie samples, of course).

The style is modern, mid-paced, slightly progressive thrash; might remind you of Risk's "The Reborn" or the early Meshuggah works, but the music is less varied and less technical. Still this is an enjoyable listen with long complex songs, ornated by stylish breaks ("Destiny Eternity") which, despite their non-thrash nature, are a really nice touch. Although the riffs are generally choppy and technical, some straight thrashing numbers are also around ("Perpetual"), as well as heavy, almost doomy ones ("God's Apparent"). The guitar work is heavy and mostly mid-paced with a slight abstract edge, but it doesn't lack dynamics: the more speedy technical number "For Fear of Listening", which is a great track with stomping, jumpy riffs. The closer "The Messiah" is somewhat underwhelming being balladish, slow, monotonous, livened up by the more thrashy ending.

What a fun slice of early 80's, NWOBHM-inspired (the band was Belgian) this is. The riffs, they gallop. The vocals, they scream. The cheese, it flows. The record title, it's evil. Of course, back in 1983, it was pretty cool to name your album See You in Hell (just ask Grim Reaper). Combine those elements with the under-produced-like-it-was-recorded-in-a-garage sound and you've got what we were all looking for back in 83: an alternative to the slick, uber-polished, Journey/Starship/REO Speedwagon drek that was considered popular music.

Straight ahead, dual-guitar heavy metal is the order of the day on See You in Hell. And, wow, did vocalist Peter De Wint and the boys wear their influences like a bullet belt. Listening to See You in Hell can be like listening to an 80's metal "Best of" compilation. "Demon of Evil," yup that's the opening riff from Maiden's "Number of the Beast." "Killing a Cop," opening riff from Priest's "You Don't Have to be Old to be Wise." "Danger of Earth" the opening riff from Blitzkrieg's "Blitzkrieg." And all throughout the album, De Wint does his best Marc Storace impersonation. And while all this makes the band pretty unoriginal, it can't cover up all the youthful enthusiasm that blasts out of the speakers. I'm sure Crossfire were convinced the next "Stairway to Heaven" lay somewhere on See You in Hell. Attitude is projected loud and clear, and that's what makes See You in Hell stand out from the rest of the also-ran's from the 80's. Crossfire could have been the next Iron Maiden, except they were trying to BE Iron Maiden. Still an enjoyable listen and a fun reminder of what it was like when the only genre was "Heavy Metal."

The title of the debut suggests very well what happpens here: aggressive speed/thrash, not too far from the works of their colleagues from Germany Kreator and Destruction, but not as intense. The introductory "Prelude To The End" nicely warms up the listener for the speed/thrash madness, which follows suit. The fast-paced formula is nicely "betrayed" by the heavy power/thrash stomper "The Call Of Steel", after which the music becomes more speed metal-based for a number of tracks, also "courting" Exciter and Destructor. "Take Thy Breath" restores the thrash domination with full force, confirmed by the intense speed/thrashing closer "Incest Love".

Cyclone's second and final album showed some definite progression in the band's style. Inferior To None has a wonderfully heavy, classy and dark sound that in a way resembles the production of some Metallica albums and supports the complex and ambitious songwriting very well. With none of the weaknesses of Brutal Destruction left, Cyclone sound almost like a totally different band here. This album has a highly consistent feel despite its lengthy tracks, and the only minor drawback is that some of the riffs are not quite as distinctive and memorable as one could wish for. If more tracks were as intriguing as the majestic instrumental Crown Of Thorns, this album would immediately appear more impressive - now it just needs a longer period of time to grow on you. That aside, Inferior To None is a true quality release and a real keeper.

Members of various thrash metal acts from Brazil and overseas (Farscape, Guillotine, Toxic Holocaust, Blasthrash) have gotten together for the recording of another retro thrash album. Traditionally they have done a good job, although from the above cited bands it's only Farscape who can be considered a soundalike. The music is fast and intense, having shades from both the German and Bay-Area school. The singer is probably the downpoint, having a hoarse hardcore tember. This effort actually beats the works of the already mentioned bands, providing a non-stop downpour of speedy lashing riffs seldom spiced by more laid-back speed metal moments ("The Damned Land"). On the other hand, pieces like "Possessed" and "Violent Reaction" smash no worse than the best tracks from Vio-Lence's "Eternal Nightmare". "Thrash Attack" and "Death For Us All" are exemplary "thrash attacks" with rolling Destruction riffs, closing this album in flying colours, and it would be worth it to hear something more from them in the near future, in case of the guys find time to record again while having a break from their busy schedules with the other bands.

Although the intro to Aggression's Moshpirit sounds deliberately fake, this album is better - and most importantly, a lot less cheesy - than the first looks might suggest. The band's style can be described as a mixture of Overkill and Exodus, and the riffage is pretty solid and satisfying even though not exactly too noteworthy. While the absolute absence of any novel ideas is more than evident, there is no lack of effort in any areas. The sound quality is sharp, making this album sonically pleasing, and the songs are a consistent bunch that probably appears about as good as you can expect at this level. While it may be difficult to find real standout tracks and there is hardly any serious message behind it all, Aggression's debut release is good for what it is worth, namely thrash metal done in the right way despite its unoriginality.

"Master Project Genesis" is even stronger, with one of the finest openers in technical metal history: the overwhelming, beautifully chaotic 4-min wonder "The Coming Of Chaos". The screamy, Torsten Bergmann-like vocals (which were not too bad, by the way) are replaced by deeper, cleaner ones, which suit the more technical approach better, and the speed is still here: check out the smashing technical bomb "Dehumanization". This is not an extremely complex work; the progressive virtuosity of Mekong Delta is seldom felt ("Secret of the Dome", and, of course, the opener; and this is not the purpose here), and the straight sections make it one of the more accessible technical efforts of the 80's.

An essential technical thrash metal band, Target pretty much established the rules of the genre on European ground, together with Mekong Delta and Living Death in 1987. "Mission Executed" still relied more on speed and energy rather than technicality, but the stylish guitar work is all over it, slowing down only for the stomping steam roller "The Gathering".

Based on the "Nation of Chaos" demo, this is glorious speed/thrash which combines the speedy aesthetics of the Angel Dust debut with the Bay Area style (think Exodus, Testament). There are cool technical riffs (those from "The Maze" will definitely remind you of Testament's "Burnt Offerings") present here, too, and the singer is a find, with a great voice recalling Dave Mustaine, but meaner and more aggressive.

R.I.P. are a power/thrash metal band with nice melodic guitar work. Their style is similar to the Argentinians Hermetica. Don't expect lashing, sharp thrashy riffs- tracks like the intense killers "Cirrosis" and "Arsenico" are not too many; the other material offered is mid-paced, melodic power/thrash, with numerous nods to the classic heavy metal scene.

"Under the Decadence" moves towards the old school sound akin to the Brazilians Atomica and Sepultura (the early albums). It is fairly energetic and brisk, seldom betraying the pattern with slower, pounding tracks ("Betrayer", the steam-rolling smasher "Decadence"). Still, killing explosions like "In Paranoia´s Dominion" and "Born in Vain", or the speedy thrash/crossover closer "Killing for Living" are what one expects to hear on a work like this.

Sabbat's final album turned out to be quite different from the band's earlier works. Due to Martin Walkyier's departure and some other stylistic changes, the sound of Mourning Has Broken is unlike anything the band had previously done. The music is somewhat less thrashy than before, leaning towards power metal though the heavy riffs still give it a solid base. Ritchie Desmond's vocals are very grand, totally different from Walkyier's style, and they give this album a noble feel which I sort of like. However, it's the songwriting that makes this release particularly difficult. The first couple of tracks sound extremely disjointed and confusing, and despite some slightly more focused songs later on the general disorienting feel of this album can make it very challenging for a casual listener to get into it. This and the great difference from Sabbat's original style probably led to the demise of this album and the band. In my opinion Mourning Has Broken is not quite as bad as many like to suggest, but it can certainly take a very long time and a lot of patience to really learn to appreciate it.
