This will be a fresh new start for BoxeeHQ and unfortunately I can’t provide support for the applications already posted on the site. Shawn will be moving the applications to the official Boxee repo. The blog will cover all things Boxee with an accent on Boxee app development. I’ll have a very cool surprise for you guys soon so make sure you stick around and keep the BoxeeHQ feed in your rss reader.

I first would like to thank everyone that supported us with testing and for the tens of thousands of downloads generated by the boxee community! I have been talking and meeting with team-boxee for a while now, hence the lack of updates and posts. I’m happy to say that I have officially joined the boxee team full time.

BoxeeHQ will not be closing its doors, but instead will be opening them, to invite any developer interested, to have the opportunity to take over boxeehq.com, as I will no longer have the time to manage this site.

After speaking with Avner this morning, we both agreed that BoxeeHQ must continue to operate as it is a large part of the boxee community.

This is a great opportunity for boxee app developers as this site already has a substantial following. Anyone who takes over will have the freedom to change anything they like except for the boxeehq logo which must remain, as well as the apps currently released, which must remain available for download through the site and repository.

First off, I want to release some stats.

Stats from 3/4/09 -> 5/2/09
Downloads: 9,093 (total application downloads, this site + appbox)
Feeds Hits: 41,259 (times an xml file was request by any boxee user)
Visits: 50,352 (total requests for xml and download files only)

We also wrote our own stats app to closely monitor the various applications in a more customized fashion. I’ve removed the download count from the right of this page because it was not accurate and did not include appbox downloads, only direct site downloads.

1. ‘SceneReleases’ is getting a major update and will be officially added to the appbox. In addition, releases will be grouped by movie name. So instead of browsing a ‘mirrored’ list of the ’scenereleases’ website, page by page, you’ll be able to choose something like ‘Crank: High Voltage’ then see a full list of all the different releases for that movie. A new skin will also be developed for this release.

2. ‘Gametrailers’ has been a thorn in my side (along with twit). ‘Gametrailers.com’ has been constantly making changes to the code on their site making my job difficult. It seems as though I’m fixing the feed scraper on a weekly basis now. So we are looking into other ways of obtaining the same video. Possibly by removing download counts and user ratings (these 2 require a hit to the actual video page to grab the stats, so far we have not found another way). This one is all a work in progress. Right now, as of this post, the feeds are working (minus issues with ‘gttv’ that are out of my control at the moment). We are going to poke at this in between other projects until we get it right.

3. ‘PBS’. Oh how we love you ‘PBS’! With over 43% of all downloads since its release, ‘PBS’ is easily the most popular app we are working on here. Not only in downloads but in usage as well. With just a hair over 44% of the 41,259 feed requests, its obvious we need to focus development on this app. We are aware of the new ‘PBS’ video section update and will start work on adding anything we can as well as playlists. We may also use the new xul interface in Boxee and not have to worry about the playlists. We haven’t made an official decision on this yet but we’ll keep you all updated on the topic.

4. ‘TWiT’. Yes, ‘twit’ will get an update sooner than later and will be using xul for the live feed from bitgravity.

5. Last on this list is a hopeful meetup with Avner and some of the boxee team members in NYC!! We are looking at the week of the 11th (this month). I’ll let you all know how that goes.
