I then placed another order on July 23rd which arrived today. This order contained

• Vanda christensoniana (syn. Ascocentrum christensonianum)
• Dendrobium aduncum
• Dendrobium moniliforme
• Dendrobium ramosii
• Dendrochilum longifolium
• Neofinetia falcata (I know it’s now a Vanda, but it’ll remain Neofinetia to me)

The Phal. lobbii came with two spikes forming; they’re either very slow growing or have stalled out. We’ll see. The Vanda cristata has a new root and all existing roots have started showing growth at their tips. Ornithophora radicans is pushing out it’s new growth quite nicely as well. Not seeing much happening with the Papilionanthe teres or the Dendrobium lawesii, right now. Night temperatures are pretty cold at the moment (night temps around or even below 10℃) and the days are rather short with sunrise at ~07:38 and sunset at ~18:07.

From the new haul, the Dendrochilum longifolium is quite a nice specimen. I haven’t tried counting the pseudobulbs, but there are many – the 10cm pot is just about full. Then the Neofinetia – I think I counted a total of 8 fans; a number of them new growths. The plastic basket it was planted in was accidentally knocked over and most of the (small bark) medium fell out. I took the opportunity to clean up the roots and it’s currently sitting bare-root in the tiny basket. I’m undecided how I’m going to pot it up.

Other than those, there are the three Dendrobiums I don’t know much about. Will be doing a bit of research on them to see what their needs are.

Four more buds to open still. This plant has flowered for me every year since I received it. Amazingly easy plant to grow and flower, even when neglected for many months

I’ve just ordered some new plants I’ll be sure to update on once they arrive. For the time being, my Laelia rubescens has 6 or 7 buds which should be opening soon. I have about 6 or 7 Phalaenopsis forming spikes, and one with a couple flowers already open. Unfortunately, some of those same Phalaenopsis also have bacterial brown rot which seems to have spread to new leaves via the stem of the plant (and in one case the flower spike to a keiki). One of them in particular upsets me as it’s a prolific bloomer, and grows extremely fast, has 2 keikis, and on some occasions is scented. It was store-bought, so I have no ID for it and doubt I could find a replacement.

The Dendrobiums’ flowers were already starting to fade and the Phalaenopsis lasted another day or 2 after taking these photos. I just threw in the photo of the Microcoelia exilis to show how the seedlings have been doing. This particular plant (of about 60+) has been growing on a windowsill on top of some sphagnum – it hasn’t grown nearly as much as those mounted on cork and growing in the greenhouse.
