The Boulder Stroke and Stride series is a great way to do race simulations of the open water swims I “enjoy” in triathlon. Today was the last day of the Stroke and Stride season, Race #10. I raced 6 time this year and have some great experiences…. if you take out the rain and thunderstorms which we are always evading. Here are my results for the year:

Last night was my first stroke and stride event in Boulder, CO. I had not done the “races” beforce because I always thought it was a little expensive for training days… After having quite a few friends doing them, I finally signed up for the 6 pack. It was my first day this year in my wetsuit. After setting up my transition, I went into the reservoir to test the water. It felt a little cold at first, but I got warmed up fast. The swim was pretty non eventful, I never found anyone to draft off of… but had a few foot taps to let me know someone got lucky. My swim time was ok at 12:52 (750 meters), my run was a little slower due to some tired legs from tuesdays track workout with D3, but it was still ok 24:58 (5k). I ended up 25th overall with a total time of 39:27.

I had already signed up for Ironman Canada, so I just worked back from there to get in some good fitness test events before that. My only A-race is Ironman Canada, but I hope to have good results all year. Here are the races you will find me at:

Those who know me well know I like to say “I’m worth it”… when shopping. Today could very well be the first day that I am not sure. I just received my new Cervelo P3. So I have been training hard the last couple months, but I am not in the same shape as the average P3 owner. I guess its a great reason to keep the training going hard all winter. I have to send out a special thanks to Cervelo, Excel Sports, and Retul to get me on this sweet ride.

I wasn’t sure it was a great idea to race a 5k the day before this ride… or go to a bar afterwards to eat hot wings, but I haven’t felt better at any other century ride. I bike the route all the time, so it wasn’t anything special… but it was great to be biking with hundreds of others. The route goes up to Larimer County which has been notorious this year to openly hate cyclists. To welcome us up there a resident glued tacks to the road. Luckily I dodged them, but one of the guys I was biking with Dirk got a flat… along with many others. I know that most in Larimer County are friendly to cyclist, but a few haters have really ruined the reputation this year.

It was the first year for the Skirt Chaser, and I loved the idea of chasing a bunch of hot skirts… so I had to sign up. The course was pretty constricted and it was kinda hard to pass the girls ahead easily… I found it to be more of a contest of dodging than a run, but it was still fun. I finished in 24:24 (7:51 pace). I will probably do it again next year, but I hope they find a road with a bit more room.

My biking is back on track, but the run proved to be quite a challenge… My training has had a primary focus on the bike, at least I felt great on my road bike passing P3s with discs

I finished the 1.2 mile swim in 37:59, the 56 mile bike in 2:42:01 (20.7 mph), and the 13.1 mile run in 2:08:42 (9:50). My total time was 5:31:58… about 15 minutes off my fastest 1/2, but I was happy with the results. I placed 365/933.
