Chicago – Republican Gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady today released the following statement in response to yesterday’s tax hike doublespeak from Governor Pat Quinn:

“Governor Pat Quinn’s song and dance number yesterday proved its still Christmas in July for tax and spenders in Illinois.

While the Governor denounced his budget director’s words and the media for announcing the same record level tax hike he supported just last year, one thing is clear: Pat Quinn is going to raise our taxes.

Let me be clear – Pat Quinn’s plan to raise taxes is a job killer for Illinois, and I stand firm with taxpayers, business and community leaders on both sides of the aisle in opposing it.

While Republicans, Independents, and even Democrats stood firm in opposing his Administration’s plan to enact the largest tax hike in history, Pat Quinn’s bumbling response proves he’s lost control of state government.”

Brady for Illinois also today released the following Fact Sheet outlining Pat Quinn’s clear record of promoting the same record level tax hikes he disavowed during a news conference yesterday, while proposing the same education cuts he wrongly accused Bill Brady of supporting.

Chicago – Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady today responded to a startling announcement by the Quinn Administration yesterday evening, declaring its intent to enact a 67 percent income tax hike in January 2011, the largest in Illinois history.

In an interview with Bloomberg News, Illinois Budget Director David Vaught, who recently made news as a political appointee receiving a $24,000 pay hike by Governor Quinn, declared, “We’re going to pass a tax increase in January.”

After citing record debt and massive unemployment under the Quinn Administration, Brady held a news conference and responded by saying, “Governor, no you are not.”
“Pat Quinn’s only answer to the worst fiscal crisis in Illinois history is to feed big government – and we’re paying for it,” he said. “We cannot afford a 67 percent tax hike while ten percent of Illinois citizens can’t find a job.”

The Governor’s 67 percent tax hike is his third such proposal since taking office in January 2009. After an initial proposal to raise taxes by 50 percent, the Governor then proposed a 33 percent hike while doling out pay hikes to political appointees.

Brady said Illinois’ record $13 billion dollar deficit, ten percent unemployment, and runaway spending show Quinn cannot manage state government, and underscored the stakes in November’s election.

“For Pat Quinn, this fiscal crisis is an excuse to feed big government, and to enact the largest tax hike in our history,” he said.

“Under a Brady Administration, this crisis will serve as an opportunity to finally make state government live within its means.”

He added, “If I’m fortunate enough to be elected as the next Governor of Illinois, I will use every available option at my disposal to stop this tax hike dead in its tracks.”

Brady (R-Bloomington) is a small business owner who has represented his community as state Senator since 2002. He is running for governor to bring a clean break to Illinois and build a job-growing environment. More information can be found at bradyforilliois.com.

ELMHURST — Governor candidate Bill Brady opened his collar county campaign office in Elmhurst today and a facility in the south suburbs.

“Suburban voters, like people everywhere in Illinois, are frustrated at the lack of jobs in their communities,” Brady said. “With these new offices, people can volunteer, make phone calls, get yard signs and make their voices heard in support of our message to make state government live within its means and get Illinois back on track.”

Brady maintains offices in Chicago, Bloomington and Springfield. The new office serving the collar counties is located in west suburban Elmhurst at 455 W. Lake Street. Brady also attended an open house at his campaign’s new office in Oak Lawn at 5138 W. 95th Street, which will serve residents in the south suburbs and southern Chicago.

Brady spoke to supporters at both offices about his campaign commitments.

“Illinois can be the engine of growth for the Midwest,” he said. “With pro-jobs policies, people in suburban Chicago and throughout Illinois will have the opportunity to succeed here, instead of watching jobs leave the state.”

Brady for Illinois yesterday released a new 30-second television ad. The new ad, called “Christmas in July,” will air statewide in Illinois beginning today. Watch the ad here:

Elk Grove Village — Amid news that Illinois continues to face double-digit unemployment, Governor Candidate Bill Brady toured a local manufacturing plant today and outlined the pro-jobs strategy he will pursue as governor.

“Illinois has the resources and potential to be the jobs engine of the Midwest,” he said. “We need policies that help entrepreneurs and workers to develop sustainable, solid jobs.”

Brady toured the RainSoft company in Elk Grove Village. RainSoft makes products that treat, purify and soften water for homes and businesses. Created in 1953, RainSoft’s commercial and industrial air purification and water softening products are designed and manufactured at its corporate facility in Elk Grove Village. The company has approximately 80 employees.

Brady has been visiting local companies in the Chicago area, talking with workers and managers about plans for job creation in Illinois. If elected, he has committed to work for:

An end to job-killing taxes and fees so people can get back to work

Real lawsuit abuse reform, so companies can pay attention to hiring people instead of fighting frivolous lawsuits.

Job creation tax credits that reward businesses when they bring on new employees

Brady said that Illinois has some of the best natural and economic advantages of any state in the nation, but our unemployment rate at times lately has been almost 20% higher than the national average.

Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) is a small business owner who has represented his community as state Senator since 2002. He is running for governor to bring a clean break to Illinois and build a job-growing environment.

Springfield – Illinois citizens will now have public notice of criminals released early under a new law sponsored by Republican Gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady.

The new law effectively prohibits secret early release programs like those enacted by Governor Pat Quinn, which reportedly allowed approximately 1,700 dangerous criminals back in the streets with no public notification.

“This new law provides families and crime victims across Illinois with a basic right they’ve long deserved – the right to be notified of any inmate released early onto our streets and neighborhoods by the state of Illinois.” Brady said.

Brady also called on Quinn to immediately post photos and information on every inmate freed early under his administration’s secret release plan, with emphasis on those whose whereabouts remain unknown.

The Brady sponsored law requires the Illinois Department of Corrections to publicly post photos and information of anyone released early from prison.

The law specifically requires the state to post the following: a recent photo, the inmate’s name, any known alias, date of birth, physical characteristics, residence address, commitment offense, and county where conviction was imposed.

Brady’s legislation, sponsored in March of this year, had been awaiting Governor Quinn’s signature for nearly two months. Brady said Quinn should have not have waited sixty days to this important legislation to protect Illinois families.

“Governor Quinn had two months to take action on this legislation, and waited until the last possible moment to sign it,” Brady said. “Playing election year politics with the safety of our citizens is another example of Governor Quinn’s failure to protect the public safety of our citizens.”

Summer is in full swing in Illinois, and so is Bill’s campaign to take back state government from the insiders in Springfield, and get Illinois back … Continue reading →

Summer is in full swing in Illinois, and so is Bill’s campaign to take back state government from the insiders in Springfield, and get Illinois back on track.

Unfortunately, Pay Quinn and his tax and spending allies showed they’ll stop at nothing to protect big government over the interests of working families in Illinois.

Last week Governor Quinn released a nasty and misleading attack ad, attempting to once again distract from the issues foremost on the minds of Illinois families — their wallets, their jobs and the failed leadership that threatens both.

Working women and families in Illinois cannot afford Governor Quinn’s 33% tax increase. They cannot afford to continue to lose jobs. Under his failure leadership — Illinois has lost more than 200,000 jobs – and more will go across the border. The state budget remains out of control and corruption continues to take its toll.

The Quinn campaign and his big government cronies in Washington have already been caught in inaccuracies – they even had to pull their first ad in this campaign. Now they’re distorting the record again.

Here’s the truth – Bill Brady voted to expand mammogram coverage – the bill that actually became law — and Governor Quinn knows it. (HB1881 /PA90-0007) Illinois already has a Family Medical Leave Act – it is the federal act that became law in 1993.

So don’t be fooled by Pat Quinn’s tax and spend allies, we can’t get Illinois moving again by electing the same old political insiders who won’t make the hard choices to help create jobs.

MORE OF THE SAME FROM PAT QUINN

Because supporters like you made your voices heard, Governor Quinn was forced to publicly respond to our calls to reverse his outrageous pay hikes for members of his political staff.

But guess what?

Not only did he fail to reverse his pay hikes, he actually defended them, while calling for an election year band-aid that fails to address our $13 billion budget gap.

That’s why Bill stood up for Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and every right-minded taxpayer, saying:

“Today’s fourteen hundredths of one percent reduction out of a $13 billion budget gap shows Gov. Quinn protects big government at all costs, and only responds after pressure from taxpayers and the media,” Brady said. Read Bill’s complete statement here.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Brady for Illinois was also proud to announce a strong fundraising report for the first half of 2010. With donors in each and every one of our state’s 102 counties, our campaign raised $3.6 million dollars to help deliver Bill’s message to make government live within its means – and almost 60 percent of our contributors gave less than $100

Every dollar counts, and we’ll need your continued financial support from now Election Day! We also proudly announced the addition of businessman and long time Republican Party leader Ron Gidwitz as Chairman of Brady for Illinois.

LISTEN TO OUR RADIO AD

Pat Quinn’s secret pay hikes – including a $24,000 raise – for his political cronies in state government proves what Bill Brady has said all along – Governor Quinn has completely mismanaged state government, and has no plan to fix state government.

That’s why Brady for Illinois launched this new, 60-second radio ad.

If you’ve had enough of spending, taxes and a culture of corruption that put Illinois on the wrong track, stand with Bill Brady on Election Day!

Statement from Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Bill Brady on Pat Quinn’s budget announcement today;

“Today’s fourteen hundredths of one percent reduction out of a $13 billion-budget gap shows Governor Quinn protects big government at all costs, and only responds after pressure from taxpayers and the media.

After Blagojevich-style pay hikes for cronies, his bizarre canoe czar, and secret criminal releases, this is yet another slap in the face of taxpayers.

It’s a pattern dating back 30 years when he was a labeled a ghost payroller under then Governor Walker. That’s why he resigned from State Government in the 1970′s, and it’s why we’re in crisis today.”
