Pro Tips for Working with Window Sheets

Working with Acetate or Window Sheets can be a little intimidating at first, but with a few "secret weapon" tools, you’ll get a clear, professional finish every time. Here are my top tips for mastering these transparent treasures:

1. Achieving a Crystal-Clear Finish

Because Window Sheets are as clear as glass, they tend to show every fingerprint!

• The Alcohol Swipe: Keep a few alcohol swabs at your desk. A quick wipe removes oils and smudges instantly and dries in seconds.

• The Final Buff: Follow up with a microfiber cloth (like the ones for your glasses) to remove any tiny lint particles or static.

• Pro Tip: Try to handle your sheets by the very edges to minimize cleaning!

2. Mastering the Perfect Crease

Acetate has a "memory" and loves to pop back open. To get that crisp, card-base fold:

• Score & Burnish: Always score your Window Sheet with your Paper Trimmer first. Then, use your Bone Folder to firmly press the crease.

• The Buffer Trick: To avoid leaving "shiny" friction marks on your clear base, place a scrap piece of cardstock between your bone folder and the Window Sheet while you rub.

3. Choosing the Right Adhesive

Standard liquid glue can "slide" on plastic and leave messy smears. For these projects, I highly recommend:

• Tear & Tape: This is my go to! It’s strong, permanent, and easy to hide behind your cardstock elements.

• Glue Dots: Perfect for small accents, just be sure to "hide" them behind a die-cut or a well-placed embellishment so they don't show through the "glass."

Sweet as Can Be: Cute as a Bug

If you love whimsical designs as much as I do, you are going to fall for the Cute as a Bug collection! I have a major sweet tooth for fruit, and strawberries are easily one of my favorites so this paper is right up my alley.

For this card, I used a smaller image on the front so the entire design appears to be floating in mid-air! It is so cool how you can see the vibrant Designer Series Paper peeking through from the inside of the card. It’s the perfect way to show off those adorable bug and fruit illustrations.

What Is the Shimmer Blend Technique?

The Shimmer Blend is a coloring technique that combines watercolor pencils with the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush instead of a water painter or blender pen. Rather than introducing water to move the pigment, the Wink of Stella gently activates and blends the watercolor pencil, giving you more control and a subtle sparkle at the same time.

Because the glitter brush applies less moisture than traditional blending tools, the paper stays smoother, colors remain vibrant, and the finished image has a soft glow instead of a flat or overworked look.
