Well, think again…maybe.

During a recent appearance at MAGfest (Music and Gaming Festival), the voice actor who portrays Duke Nukem, John St. John, jokingly avoided answering an attendee’s question regarding the long, long, long, long, long awaited shooter, Pixel Enemy reports.

“I’m not allowed to speak on that subject, sir,” said St. John. In response to the subsequent booing his response elicited, St. John jumped back in to say, “No, no. Don’t be disappointed. Read between the lines. Why am I not allowed to talk about it?”

So there you have it. Duke Nukem Forever will be hitting store shelves in fall 2019! Thanks for bringing this 70 year on again/off again Nukem melodrama to an end Mr. St. John.

Actually, given that 3D Realms’ CEO Scott Miller recently revealed that the developer is planning to release tons of Duke content over the next year, Forever could very well find itself off of life-support sometime in the near future.

[over9k] used his Arduino to set up a laser trip wire. The laser is mounted along side the Arduino, reflects off of a mirror, and shines on a photoresistor that interfaces via a voltage divider. The signal from the voltage divider is monitored for a change when the laser beam is broken. [over9k] set things up so that a webcam snaps a picture of the intruder and Twitters the event for easy notification. Video after the break walks through each of these steps.

This build is a bit rough around the edges but unlike other laser trip wires this keeps all the electronics in one place. The laser interface could be a bit more eloquent, and we’re wondering just how much current it is pulling off of the Arduino pins. But if you’re bored and have this stuff on hand it will be fun to play around with it.

You know it’s getting a bit ridiculous when hardware that hasn’t hit the streets is being rooted. That’s exactly what has happened, root access can now be achieved on the Nexus One. [Paul] found an exploit and packaged it nicely so that anyone can do it. We do wish he had shared the details of the exploit but we’re not complaining.

If you’re not in the know, the Nexus One is the fabled Google Phone now come to life. It’s slated for release in 2010 and some think that will be officially unveiled at a January 5th press conference. That’s right, unveiled. The device has been cracked yet it doesn’t officially exist. What it does do is join a growing number of rooted android phones.

This isn’t going to be fun, so we’ll just say it and get it over with: the HTC Touch.B isn’t the updated Android smartphone we’d been hoping for. As it turns out it isn’t even a smartphone, relegated to the realm of the featurephone by running Qualcomm’s BrewMP OS. Full Flash support is nice, and we must say the UI has a charming, simple look to it, but it all looks a little… limited, and that screen seems awfully small given the size of the phone now that it’s been turned on. Abington are looking to get a class action lawsuit together, believing Microsoft’s actions to be both heavy-handed and suspiciously convenient giving the proximity of the bannings to the release of Modern Warfare 2.

“Microsoft has chosen to use one of the most indiscriminate ‘weapons’ in its arsenal in an effort to combat piracy — as a result, use of this ‘weapon’ has resulted in a great deal of collateral damage — many people were affected who had nothing to do with piracy”, reads a statement on the firm’s website.

As for the conspiracy theory side of the story, Abington reckon that the mass bannings were just an excuse for Micsrosoft, with the release of the year’s biggest online title on the horizon, to rack up a few extra Xbox Live subscriptions from those eager to get back onto the service.

Sounds like complete rubbish to me, but then, this is a law firm we’re talking about.

For starters, Roger Avary – who wrote the first movie – may not return. He’s, uh, busy. And while we don’t know which cast members, if any, will be returning, Carmody confirms that Christophe Gans won’t be back in the director’s chair, as he “wants to direct something new”.

Carmody then opens up on the course the movie will take, while at the same time addressing some of the complaints fans of the series had over the first film’s tone and depiction of familiar characters.

“I think we need to make it a little more accessible to the movie-going public”, he told STYD. “Silent Hill is not a blockbuster game like Resident Evil or the other games out there. It’s a connoisseurs’ game. It has its own, rabid fan base. They’re not cheap, these things. You have to appeal not only to the gamers, you have to appeal to a wider audience. So we have to get some story in there that helps explain a bit more. I think that’s all happening. Of course, [the story] is going to happen years later and the main character – without giving too much away – is much older and representative to the movie-going public which is in that age group.”

For those of you not up to par on your Star Trek calendar, that’s actually January 12th, 2010. The open beta will run through January 26th, giving players two weeks to play the game prior to the February launch. Open beta keys will be given out on a first come, first serve basis, with players urged to watch the game’s official website at http://www.startrekonline.com to keep abreast of the situation.

“We are excited to announce the dates for the open beta phase as this is one of the final steps in launching Star Trek Online to the public,” said Craig Zinkievich, Executive Producer on Star Trek Online. “We are looking forward to the launch of our first-of-a-kind MMORPG with anticipation and excitement and we expect Star Trek Online to explode onto the scene, giving fans and gamers a Star Trek experience like no other.”

Star Trek would be a much bigger hit with the fans if video game website writers didn’t have to covert dates to stardates of their own accord. Just sayin’.
