God Bless America:

Movie by Bobcatt Goldthwait, ofcourse of Police Academy fame, but also known for the Jimmy Kimmel show and directing movies like World’s Greatest Dad. The trailer really got me enthusiastic for this movie.

Frank (Joel Murray) has had enough of the downward spiral of American culture, which he sees as overrun with cruelty, stupidity and intolerance. Divorced, recently fired, and possibly terminally ill, Frank truly has nothing left to live for. But instead of taking his own life, he buys a gun and decides to take out his frustration on the cruelest, stupidest, most intolerant people he can imagine—starting with some particularly odious reality television stars. Frank finds an unusual accomplice in a high-school student named Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr), who shares his sense of rage and disenfranchisement, and together they embark on a nation-wide assault on our country’s dumbest, most irritating celebrities.

The movie certainly has it’s moments. The part where Frank explains to a, less than interested, colleague about what he thinks is wrong with today’s society makes you feel like yelling ‘hell yea!’ (or hallelujah, depending on what you prefer) at the screen, Frank’s reasoning seems sincere, although at times you wonder why he doesn’t just shut the tv and/or radio off. The violence is often over the top and requires a certain type of humor but the sometimes (deliberately?) clumsy scenes are a bit of a let down. Especially the part in the ‘American Superstar’ set looks like a highschool play. Also the ‘acting’ of some characters is bad. Which bothered me. Besides that i feel more could be done with the subject of the movie.

You don’t have to be American to recognize a lot of things in this movie. For instance over here, in the Netherlands, there are plenty of reality shows that give you the same urges as Frank has from watching the shows over there. And i’m sure every country these days has those.

If you liked movies like Idiocracy, Falling Down and Natural Born Killers you will surely enjoy this one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VQfKmIXfWM

Machete

I doubt this movie needs introduction, i have no idea why i hadn’t seen it yet until now, but i’m glad i did see it. Danny Trejo (Machete) is a former Federale who tries to find work in America. He is hired by a guy to kill the senator (Robert de Niro) and from there on the shit hits the fan.

Very amusing movie, if you like your violence completely over the top and your women hot and sometimes naked that is. A great cast of serious (De Niro, Alba, Rodriquez) and more campy (Steven Seagal, Lindsey Lohan, Cheech Martin and Don Johnson) actors. And ofcourse Danny Trejo, who doesnt even have to say much and what he says is more like the Incredible Hulk (“Machete don’t text”) to be an incredible badass.

Don’t watch this for the in depth story line or take this movie to serious, as it is tasteless and violent. But great fun. Can’t wait for the sequel(s).

Nowadays models are often, if not always, photoshopped before they get their faces and bodies in magazines or on the web. You’d think that’s something that came with modern day technology but seeing these images of pin-ups from the 1950s it’s apparent that it’s something from all times.

It also shows that the duckface girls tend to make in pictures is not a new thing.

Amazingly original New York deathmetal band which at times reminds me of Immolation, Ulcerate, Portal and Disma. Unfortunately i only discovered this album beginning of this year, otherwise it would have been very high in the 2011 yearlist. Deserves more recognition than they are getting now. Check them out here

I’ve never really liked later Sentenced albums, especially since i discovered them with this album i was really dissapointed with the entire ‘doomy, gloomy, suicidal’ thing they had after this album. Wonderful technical deathmetal that doesn’t just sound like rehashed Iron Maiden riffs that are played faster with a heavier distortion. These guys actually wrote interesting songs.

I could place the entire album here, but i’ll just stick to the first song of the album.
