Lately, I’ve been drawn to spaces that balance elegance with ease – where antique-inspired details meet relaxed sophistication. Intricate cabinetry, vintage wallpapers, and cozy built-in nooks create a sense of character, while airy bedrooms and collected dining spaces invite a feeling of comfort. Whether it’s the charm of a sun-drenched French village street or the perfect vacation-ready outfit, these moments remind me that beauty is often found in the smallest details.

With spring in full bloom, we’re embracing the season with fresh finds for your home. From layering in new bedding to thoughtful Mother’s Day gifting, this issue is all about simple ways to refresh your space. I love collecting books that spark creativity, whether it’s through striking interiors, timeless elegance, or the art of entertaining. These eight favorites are the ones I find myself returning to again and again, filled with inspiring spaces, rich textures, and thoughtful design details. Whether you’re looking for styling inspiration or simply a beautiful addition to your home, these books are worth adding to your collection.

When our clients relocated to California for work, they wanted their new home to reflect the classic, coastal traditional style they loved – think timeless details, soft palettes and a touch of Hamptons charm. With a clear vision in mind, they trusted us to bring their ideas to life, balancing sophistication with the ease of California living. From reimagining layouts to selecting finishes that feel both refined and inviting, this project was a true collaboration. Join us as we take you through each thoughtfully designed space in this home.

The goal when designing the foyer was to create a defined entry without closing it off completely. We added a glass window divider to give the space a bit of intimacy while still letting in plenty of light. A small console table brings in just the right amount of function and storage, and to keep things feeling open and inviting we added a mirror above – always a go-to trick for making a space feel bigger and brighter.

For the living room, we were really intentional about the floor plan, making sure the layout felt intimate and encouraged conversation. The front seating area sets the tone, creating a cozy, welcoming feel right when you walk into the space. Since the client gravitated toward calm neutrals with minimal pattern and low contrast, we kept the larger furniture pieces soft and understated. But to keep things from feeling flat, we layered warmth through accessories, textural pillows, subtle patterns, and carefully chosen decor that add just the right amount of depth without overpowering the space.

This space is where everything comes together – literally. We removed a wall to create room for the dining room and doubled the size of the kitchen. Indoor-outdoor living feels effortless with the large doors opening into the backyard off the dining room. The furniture stays neutral, while texture was added through the light fixture and dining chairs to keep things visually interesting without overwhelming the space.

The kitchen’s new size and layout make it more functional for both everyday life and entertaining – something our clients love to do! The butcher block island is a standout moment, bringing warmth and a hint of contrast to an otherwise low-contrast palette. To keep things feeling cohesive and calming, we ran the countertops up as a backsplash, simplifying the mix of materials while letting texture do the work.

This part of the home is all about function meeting beauty. The family room is a cozy space perfect for reading, crafting and gathering with a mix of patterns and neutrals that keep it inviting. Overlooking both the front and backyard, it feels open yet intimate.

Tucked into one corner, the craft and game area is where creativity happens. Our clients kids are tech-savvy (they even built their own computer!), and their daughter loves to sew, so it was important to create a space that could support their projects while still feeling tidy and cohesive with the main floor.

A delicate floral wallpaper adds charm to this space, while the custom vanity, with its scalloped detail and patina hardware, brings a soft, feminine feel. Though small, every element was chosen with intention.

With a front porch view, this room was designed to reflect its teen occupant’s creative spirit. A subtle pinstripe wallpaper meets rich green walls, balancing color with classic charm. In the bathroom, no detail was overlooked – vintage-inspired hardware and a playful Brooke & Lou wallpaper bring in personality while keeping the space timeless and refined.

For the oldest son’s space, we leaned into a masculine, tailored feel – striped wallpaper paired with contrasting blue trim adds depth and character. In the bathroom, a bold plaid tile floor and unique shower detail make the space feel both classic and fresh, while the custom vanity ties it all together.

This multipurpose room does it all – serving as a laundry room, home office and even a playroom when needed. Thoughtfully designed cabinetry keeps everything tucked away, making the space as functional as it is streamlined. For the bunk room, we kept things playful yet timeless. Vertical shiplap in this space adds texture, while the subtle wall paper on the ceiling brings in just the right amount of pattern. With doors leading to the front yard, these rooms feel bright, open and connected to the outdoors. Their shared bathroom balances practicality with charm – one trough sink with double faucets keeps things efficient, while mixed bronze and brass finishes add warmth and character.

In the primary bedroom we layered textures with a grasscloth wallpaper, a subtly patterned white carpet, and a cozy sitting area, mixing different neutrals for depth and warmth. The result is a space that feels serene, sophisticated and inviting. In the bathroom, we embraced a soft, low-contrast palette with timeless materials. Carrara marble covers the shower, complemented by the classic shapes and patterns that will never go out of style. Shiplap walls and a uniquely shaped marble backsplash add subtle character without overwhelming the space.

For the outdoor space, we kept things neutral but played with texture to bring depth and warmth. The clients wanted both a dining and a lounging area, so we designed distinct zones for gathering and relaxing. A custom stone fireplace serves as the focal point, adding ambiance and anchoring the space.

Lately, I’ve been drawn to images that capture the subtle yet beautiful transition from winter to spring — where the crispness of one season meets the warmth of the next. There’s a consistency in the way these moments unfold: fashion that layers cozy textures with lighter more fluid pieces, vines just beginning to creep up the side of a house, hinting at the lushness to come, and tile installations in warm yet refreshing hues that feel like a breath of fresh air. These images, saved over the past month, reflect the balance of structure and softness, tradition and renewal — an ever-present theme in my design inspiration.

This January, our design team traded our usual market trip for something a bit more inspiring: a visit to Paris for Maison Objet and Deco Off, two of the most celebrated events in the design world. Beyond sourcing new finds for Brooke & Lou, we immersed ourselves in the beauty of the city – wandering throughout storied neighborhoods, discovering hidden antique shops, and lingering over long dinners at classic Parisian brasseries. In this blog we’re sharing a glimpse into our experience, along with our favorite places to stay, eat, and explore, so you can plan your own perfect trip to the City of Light.

Parisian interiors are a masterclass in effortless sophistication – layered, lived-in, and rich with history. What struck me the most was the attention to detail, from intricate moldings and towering ironwork doors to the warmth of worn herringbone floors and antique mirrors that reflect centuries of style. The mix of old and new felt natural, never overdone, and it reminded me to embrace that balance in my own designs. I left feeling more inspired than ever to incorporate materials with character – like beautifully veined marble and aged wood – alongside contemporary elements for a look that feels timeless yet fresh.

Paris has no shortage of beautiful places to stay. Among my top favorite hotels include the Le Grand Mazarin Hotel and the Maison Proust Hotel. This time, we opted for an Airbnb in the 2nd arrondissment – giving us more space to stay together, unwind after long days and experience the city like locals. Parisian cafés are just as much about the atmosphere as they are about the coffee. Café de Flore is perfect for people watching from a sidewalk table, white Cordelia Coffee Flower Shop offers a cozy, local feel for a quick stop. For something a bit more refined, the Dior Café inside the Dior store is as beautiful as you’d imagine – an elegant spot to pause between shopping and sightseeing.

Paris is full of incredible dining experiences, whether you’re looking for something grand or effortlessly local. For a truly special night out, Lafayette’s is the place – just be sure to book early or have your hotel concierge handle it. Coco’s, located inside the Opera, offers a stunning setting with impeccable service. And for a more classic Parisian experience, Brasserie Thoumieux delivers that charming, local feel that makes dining in Paris so unforgettable.

Paris is a shopper’s dream, from charming boutiques to iconic department stores. Sézane is a must for effortlessly chic French fashion, while Michele Aragon is the perfect spot to hunt for unique antiques in one of the city’s most picturesque neighborhoods. For a more curated department store experience, Le Bon Marché offers a refined selection of Parisian brands in an intimate, elegant setting.

The city is filled with breathtaking sights, but a few stand out as unforgettable experiences. Monmartre is always a favorite – wandering its charming streets feels like stepping into a painting, and getting a portrait drawn by a local artist is a keepsake worth bringing home. Luxenbourg Gardens offers a peaceful escape, especially in the warmer months when the gardens are in full bloom. And of course, no visit to Paris is complete without seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkle at night – a moment that never loses its magic.

The journey to get here has been over a decade in the making, and I couldn’t be more excited to take this next step for our business. For years, Charleston has felt like a second home to me. From its historic charm to its coastal beauty, the city has long been a source of inspiration for our designs and we have been blessed to grow our list of clients and projects in CHS. It’s a place that feels both deeply rooted in history and constantly evolving—just like the way we approach each project at Bria Hammel Interiors.

Expanding our presence to Charleston is an organic next step. More and more, we’ve found ourselves drawn to projects in the lowcountry, and with each visit, our connection to Charleston has grown. Now, with a permanent presence here, we are ready to bring our signature aesthetic to even more homes in this special part of the country.

Our Charleston office follows the same trusted processes, level of design, and attention to detail as our St. Paul location. However, we can now offer lower project minimums for the area and with dedicated local team that can handle site visits and meetings, travel fees are eliminated. We also have established relationships with experienced builders, architects, work rooms, warehouses and contractors in Charleston making our client experiences smoother than ever.

Yes, of course! We welcome a limited amount of clients per year to allow Bria to oversee and be a part of every single project we take on.

We have a beautiful home-base (apartment) downtown where our Charleston team works out of and Bria and our Minnesota team stays when visiting. However, a more permanent office space is in the works!

We have photographed one of our homes thus far (a new construction, full furnishing project) that you can see here. We plan photographing two other projects very soon so stay tuned!

We currently have 2 employees located in CHS and we are currently hiring for 1 more. Bria and our Minnesota team frequents Charleston 1x/month as well.
