Starbucks is launching Starbucks Teavana Handcrafted Beverages and Full Leaf Tea Sachets as a core offering in more than 6,200 Starbucks stores across China and the Asia Pacific region, including the Philippines starting September 14, 2016.

Also coming out in the Philippines this September 14, 2016 are the new Starbucks Card, the Autumn Leaf Cards and the Mid-Autumn Festival Card. In a press release Starbucks welcomes "another change in season with these delightful leaves in every shade of the autumn spectrum - red, yellow, orange, brown and green. These cards are available for an initial consumable load amount of ₱500 per card. On the other hand, in celebration of the Moon Festival or the Mid-Autumn Festival, where the time of the year when the moon is at its brightest and fullest, Starbucks celebrates with everyone with the release of a card dedicated to the festivities. The card is available for an initial consumable load amount of ₱300.

Jinjiang Inn brand from China opens in the Philippines

CHRISTMAS COOKIE LATTE

Starbucks Philippines HOLIDAY STARBUCKS CARDS

Starbucks Philippines will also be releasing two (2) cards, the Holiday Tree and Snowman Cards, available at an initial consumable load of Php300. Together with the new cards, Starbucks Philippines will also be releasing the first-ever Starbucks Mini Card in the Philippines. Available at an initial consumable load of Php500.

There will also be a Starbucks Card Activation Promo:

Promotion will run from November 3 to 5, 2014 in all Starbucks stores in the Philippines.
Customers who activate a new Starbucks Card within the promo period with at least ₱1,500 will receive an additional ₱300 load.
This promo applies to newly activated Starbucks Cards (any design including mini card) and not reloaded Starbucks Cards.

But probably the most awaited part of the Starbucks Philippine Christmas Tradition is the return of the Starbucks Planner. Now on its 12th edition, the Limited Edition Starbucks Philippines 2015 Planner will feature four interesting designs/colors.

"Whether you’re still finding your favorite drink or enjoying your “me” time with your favorite coffee at your third place, we want to make sure that we continue to give you an extra shot of lift in the heart with some daily inspiration," Starbucks Philippines said in a press release.

Something to plan out our the day with or cherish our moments with. Something that will tell the Starbucks story. And keep our stories as well. Starbucks Philippines releases new Autumn Card, Seasonal Lattes

The Starbucks Autumn Card, or more commonly called "Burst of Fall" in other countries, has reached the Philippines. This September 16, Tuesday, the new Starbucks Card will be released in all Starbucks Philippines stores nationwide. "Capturing the colors and coziness of fall, this card is a great gift to give for any occasion or an addition to your own collection," Starbucks Philippines noted.

Together with this, they are rolling out a Starbucks Card Load promotion. From September 16 to 22, every ₱300 loaded onto a Starbucks Card will automatically receive one (1) Beverage Star. This promo applies to newly activated cards and existing cards for reloading.

Moreover, also on September 16, Starbucks Philippines will be offering new seasonal beverages, the French Vanilla Latte and the Dark Caramel Latte. Starbucks wants us to embark on a journey into espresso bliss as they invite us to rekindle our love for the perfect latte. Both the French Vanilla Latte and the Dark Caramel Latte are delightful in taste, and are available hot or iced.

The Dark Caramel Latte is made of espresso, steamed milk and creamy dark caramel sauce, finished with whipped cream and a custardy caramel flan drizzle make for a delicious treat. Available in Tall (₱145), Grande (₱160), and Venti (₱170). PH goes ‘5G’: Smart fires up LTE-Advanced

Two years after it pioneered the deployment of Long-Term Evolution (LTE) or 4G technology in the country, wireless services leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) announced that 5G wireless technology LTE-Advanced (LTE-A), is now running in the Philippines’ largest and strongest network.

Smart switched on LTE-A at the Smart Jump Center in Mandaluyong City recently, setting the next phase of mobile communication technology beyond 4G LTE standards.

LTE-A, also referred to as ‘5G’ by reports on leading global mobile operators AT&T and T-Mobile, delivers data from between 100 megabits per second (mbps) to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps), or ten times faster than 3G services and more than twice as fast as 4G services.

By firing up LTE-A technology on its network, Smart joins only a handful of carriers around the world with an LTE-A network, along with leading mobile operators in South Korea, United States, Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong.

“Even as our 3G and 4G networks continue to be unrivaled, Smart becomes the first operator to leap into the future and put the Philippines at par with the world’s most advanced countries in terms of mobile communications technology,” said Orlando B. Vea, founder and Chief Wireless Advisor of Smart.

With LTE-A, a 10MB file takes less than a second to download, YouTube videos no longer have to buffer, and video calls are almost lag-free. But beyond speed, LTE-A’s main feature is also its capability to allocate more network resources to users when the need arises. Smart started testing LTE-A across the country in August last year, delivering results of more than 100Mbps in Makati City, in Boracay, and in Davao City during the Kadayawan festival.

Ramon Isberto, Public Affairs head for Smart and its parent company the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), said that the recent development is part of the company’s multi-pronged approach in addressing the various needs for internet and data services in the market.

“The PLDT Group’s strategy has always been to create solutions that address the varying needs of all segments of our customers, to bring fixed, wireless and mobile broadband services where they really matter. They may be delivered at different speeds and volumes, using a variety of technologies, and meant to respond to a wide range of needs of the market – but all of it is aimed at bringing the benefits of the internet to every Filipino,” explained Isberto.

This strategy meant deploying a combination of Fiber-to-the-Home, Next Generation Network, Time-Division Duplex LTE, Frequency-Division Duplex LTE and vDSL to bring internet to every Filipino home, and 3G, 4G, and 5G or LTE-A for mobile subscribers, according to Isberto.

“We are able to deliver all these high-bandwidth services and applications on the strength of our transmission backbone network, which is the most extensive and most resilient in the country. Aside from allowing us to commit to speed, our unmatched network resources give us the edge in terms of efficiency and reliability,” added Isberto.

Smart’s nationwide coverage is backed by PLDT’s fiber optic cable connection which has now reached nearly 90,000 kilometers, or more than four times than competition. To further strengthen this domestic fiber optic network (DFON), PLDT also set up third legs in its fiber loops in key areas nationwide, the latest of which is the Bohol DFON project that provided redundant links between the Visayas and Mindanao.

Isla: A GMA News and Public Affairs Summer Special with Solenn Heussaff and Mikael Daez

It is an exciting special as Solenn Heussaff and Mikael Daez explore 6 marvelous islands out of the 7,107 islands in the Philippines. ISLA will feature Philippine's best island destinations from Pangulasian Island in El Nido, Palawan; Apo Island in Dumaguete; Danjugan Island in Negros Occidental; Salagdoong Beach in Siquijor; Lobo in Batangas; and Oslob in Cebu.

In Dumaguete, Mikael swims with friendly sea turtles in Apo Island, chills by the beach and discovers why the province is called the City of Gentle People. Solenn also visits a “wild” island known as Danjugan Island in Negros Occidental. Danjugan boasts of an enormous, unexplored bat cave with millions of fruit- and insect-eating bats. Under sea adventures also await as Solenn swims with various sea creatures. In Siquijor, Mikael is enchanted by the famous white sands of Salagdoong Beach and so-called “magical powers” of folk healers. Aside from being a model-host, Solenn is also a certified medic diver. Her passion for scuba diving was reignited by her visit to Lobo, Batangas. Lobo town sits astride the mountainous corridor in the southernmost coast of Batangas. It is one of the 18 biodiversity hot spots in the country identified by the DENR so the diving is exquisite and unspoilt. Solenn also takes a boat through a mangrove forest where she caught a special type of mud crab which she cooked in the traditional Batangueño way. Finally, Mikael gets up close and personal with one of the sea’s gentle giants, the whale shark, in Oslob, Cebu. The island of Cebu offers a variety of activities for adventure-seekers – from swimming, to kayaking to rock climbing. In Cebu, there’s never a dull moment and there’s always a sight to behold.

I had the privilege to take Ms. Solenn Heussaff around El Nido, Palawan, specifically in El Nido Resorts' newest eco-luxury island resort, Pangulasian. In El Nido, "Solenn goes on a luxury getaway in one of the best resorts in the world. El Nido is also known for natural wonders such as limestone cliffs, caves and hidden lagoons."

Solenn was able to see the villas of Pangulasian, specifically the Kalaw Villa and the Pool Villa, which has its own private lounge pool with an amazing view of the stretch of white sand beach. Also, she was able to enjoy a dip in the main swimming pool of the resort.

Beyond enjoying the luxuries of Pangulasian Island, Solenn was also able to visit the big and small lagoons, the most famous attractions of El Nido, and get to swim and snorkel with the fishes in the house reef.

Le Jardin Cuisine de Gils of Trois Gourmands is the newest French restaurant in Manila, located at the Penthouse of W Fifth Building, 5th Avenue corner 32nd Street in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The restaurant officially opens its doors today, May 7, to the public.

This newest food spot in BGC offers a romantic garden themed ambiance, coupled with great authentic French food, inspired with distinct Filipino ingenuity prepared by Chefs Hasset Go and Jonas Ng. Both chefs trained under the celebrated French Chef Gils Brault of Le Trois Gourmands in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.

Le Jardin offers a choice of a 3-course meal, a 4-course meal or a 5-course meal, with all set courses including a truffled egg appetizer, freshly made cheese, palette cleanser, and freshly baked bread. If you want something light, go for the 3-course set meal, while if you are starving, go for the 4 or 5-course set meal.

I love the ambiance of the garden-themed restaurant, with the industrial high ceiling, which compliments the whole out of Manila look, and offers a distinct inviting atmosphere to unwind and simply enjoy what's served on the plate. The appetizer came out first, the scrambled egg was light and fluffy, and the truffle oil just killed it. It was a symphony.

I got the 4-course meal, which included a cold starter and a hot starter. I got the Salad de homard or the poached lobster salad, which is a delicately plated lobster tail and salad that's seasoned and refreshing. You cannot go wrong with this dish!

I immediately finished my salad, which was followed by the Soupe de citrouille et Foie Gras Poêlé or the Squash soup with seared foie gras. Foie Gras, a food product made of the liver of the duck or goose that has been fattened, is one of the most popular and well-known delicacies in French cuisine. It happens to be one of my guilty pleasures (once in a while). I both loved the squash soup and the foie gras, and they both go well with each other, in fairness.

The palette cleanser immediately followed by appetizers. Lemon sherbet with tomatoes and basil oil. It was simply refreshing and yummy. I am ready for my main course. ;)

For my main course, I got the Pave de thon et foie gras poêlé, aux truffle or the Grilled tuna steak with foie gras and truffle sauce. One thing is for sure with me, foie gras and truffle, and the rest is history! I finished this right away. The tuna came from General Santos city or GenSan, which explains why the tuna is really good quality. The foie gras was rich, buttery and delicate, while the truffle oil was just divine. This is certainly a must try dish! :)

One of the things Le Jardin prides itself, besides good authentic French food, is that they carry a good selection of wines, imported from France, and can only be found in the restaurant. I tried the CHÂTEAU LA CALISSE ROSÉ 2011, which was a good choice. I would definitely have this piece for my wine collection.

Besides the food and the wine, they also make their own cheese, which is an all together tedious process of fermenting. This, however, is an acquired taste, as each one is aged and fermented differently to achieve the desired taste. Asked Chef Hasset which one is his favorite. He said, "the smellier, the better." I guess to each his own, as it really depends on the taste and the taster.

For dessert, I got what they recommended me, the Dessert de Gils, which would probably be the best dessert (I thought) as it is the namesake of Chef Gils. I was correct, as this concoction of vanilla ice cream, raspberry sorbet, strawberries and nougatine, was no less than heavenly.

Surfiesta 2014: LabaText—Right Place, Right Time, Right Manner

Dangwa, the place where you can get flowers for your loved ones at the best prices, is probably the busiest place during Valentine's Day year on year. 2014 V Day was no different. A team from Unilever, together with partner distributor and agencies, took this opportunity to pull off a publicity act to inform the people about Surfiesta—a promo wherein Surf sachets can be exchanged for free texts at Cebuana Lhuillier.

"Given our limited budget for this activation, we had to be smart and maximize what we have. We were tasked to do this on Valentine's Day and I immediately knew the perfect venue for it. Dangwa, being the center of attention of people and media during Valentine's, is the key to maximize our exposure given our limited resources," Engle Chua, a member of the Unilever team, said.

The whole team, composed of more than 50 people, conducted massive flyering and sampling of Surf sachets in Dangwa. To cap it all off, all members including Surf's mascot, Boy Bula, performed a surprise street-style flash mob along the streets, creating a big buzz within the district. Dancing to the tune of "LabaText", people were treated to a catchy jingle and easy-to-follow dance moves.

"We decided to convey the mechanics of the promo through a combination of a catchy jingle and dance moves because Filipinos are naturally happy people. We enjoy dancing and singing," Engle said.

This publicity stint was a well-crafted one in a sense that it was done at the right place, at the right time and through the right manner.

Highlights of my first Iloilo Dinagyang Festival

We woke up with our ear drums still echoing with the awesome beats by DJs Brandon Jon, Elmer Dado and Gruppo Tribale at Plazuela de Iloilo the night before. We did not waste time and literally lived all out the first night in Iloilo. It was certainly a nice prelude to the actual event! Casa La Granja was actually a cozy and chic place, with rooms that are spacious, minimalistic but comfortable. It also has a swimming pool. You can't help but notice that it is somewhat Moroccan-design inspired, which is awesome.

Since our first engagement is still scheduled after lunch, we decided to visit the old churches, that which Iloilo is known for. First we trooped to the Jaro Cathedral, which was built in 1874. It was damaged by an earthquake in 1948, but was fixed years later in 1958. We started the day right, by thanking the Lord for all the blessings - for being in Iloilo to celebrate Dinagyang Festival, for being able to travel, and for new friends.

After Jaro Cathedral, we went to Molo Church (lowest right photo), which carries an interesting history itself. It was originally built made "of tabique pampango with a chalk roof, then built temporarily with nipa" by Fr. Jose Ma. Sichon in 1863. The concrete structure was approved and built by Bishop Mariano Cuartero in 1869. In honor of Saint Anne, this church was known to be a feminist church because of the two rows of sixteen female saints line on both sides of the altar. Molo Church was declared a national landmark by the National Historical Institute in 1992. It is the only Gothic church outside Manila.

After the churches, we visited the Angelicum School, previously the Lizares Mansion, one of Iloilo's iconic heritage houses. The house was built in 1937 by Don Emiliano Lizares for his wife Conchita Gamboa and their two sons and three daughters, the mansion has three floors, a basement and an attic. It has a winding wooden staircase and big bedrooms with floor and doors made of hardwood. It has 59 doors which indicate the intricacy of its layout. During World War II, the mansion was then used as headquarters of the Japanese army, and was believed that the basement became a dumping ground for tortured Filipinos. After the war, the family went back to live in the mansion, but life was never the same. In 1950, Don Emiliano Lizares died and his widow left for Manila, leasing the mansion to a businessman who turned it into a casino. The city mayor later ordered that the casino be closed, claiming that it corrupted the Ilonggos. In 1962 the Lizares Mansion was sold to the Dominicans. In 1963, it was converted into a House of Formation for young Dominicans in the Philippines. And finally, in 1978, the Lizares Mansion compound became the home of Angelicum School Iloilo. There's an urban legend saying that the house is haunted, but I do not really believe until I see it.

We went straight to Tatoy’s Manokan and Seafood for lunch with David Guison, who caught up with us at Molo Church, and our new Ilonggo friend John Lex Bayombong. We had lechon, native chicken, inihaw na pusit or squid, but most of all, our favorite, the baked oysters!

I blogged about the 2014 Starbucks Festival Tumblers a few weeks back, which launched with the Ati-Atihan Festival in Aklan and Sinulog Festival in Cebu. Meanwhile, while we were waiting, I spotted these colorful and cute Dinagyang Festival Tumblers at Starbucks Iloilo. Hala Bira!

It was about time for our grand parade! We were on board living it all out on SMART Communication's float. DJ Elmer Dado and the talented Gruppo Tribale were also on board with us, together with the ABS-CBN talent Arjo Atayde. It was not my first time on board a float in a parade (see 2011 Panagbenga Festival with my former boss Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim in Baguio), but it was certainly the first time for me to wave at the crowd, and dance on the float! Nevertheless, it was a memorable experience for the books. The best part is that I had fun with my cousin Gretch, and fellow SMART digital ambassadors Miko and Angela.

Visiting Iloilo would not be complete without trying the famous and original La Paz Batchoy, so we visited the best one, Netong's La Paz Batchoy, located inside the La Paz Public Market. Netong’s authentic La Paz Batchoy is made of egg noodles, a mix of pork and beef, with garlic, chicharon, liver and onion leaves.

Trying out all these famous and delicious food was very satisfying to our tummies, although I am sure we all gained after that. It was our first time, so it was forgivable to indulge and binge on these local delicacies. It was all worth it in the end. We trooped back to our hotel to freshen up and prepare for the Dinagyang Invasion party that night. We arrived a little bit early, but it was all cool, as the DJs and the music were excellent in livening up the crowd.

With Angela, DJ Brandon Jon, DJ Inno Naguit, and all the craziness and dope things in between that happened that night. It was the most epic and fun night with family and friends, and a great way to kick start 2014! :) Thanks to SMART Communications for bringing us to #SmartDinagyang! It was a #SmartLiveAll party I will always remember.

We finished around 4am, slept, and woke up at 7am to attend the street party, the main event of the Dinagyang Festival. Dinagyang is Iloilo City’s version of the Ati-Atihan festival, widely celebrated not only in Panay Island but also in other parts of the country. It is an annual festival in honor of the Holy child (Sto. Nino), and the indigenous culture of the Panayanons. It is "an Ilonggo term for revelry or merrymaking, Dinagyang was coined in 1977 by Ilonggo writer/broadcaster Pacifico Sudario to describe the riotous celebration," according to Dinagyang 2014 website.

Was so glad to see one of the hardworking regional directors of the Department of Tourism, Atty. Helen Catalbas of DOT Region VI or Western Visayas. In attendance also was Tourism Undersecretary Maria Victoria Jasmin, but unfortunately, I was not able to meet her because of the crowd that made it impossible to spot her. Nevertheless, I am glad that the Tourism Department is all out in its support for this festival.

#SmartLiveAllOut: Traveling to Iloilo for the Dinagyang Festival

It was my first time in Iloilo and I didn't know what to expect. So the first people I asked about what to do in Iloilo were my cousins (Adi and Tin) because I know they have been to the province several times for both work and pleasure. The first thing they told me is to prepare to eat a lot of food. Then they suggested places we can visit to get the best out of our stay - from Tatoy's to Breakthrough for their famous crab fat (aligue) rice, to Netongs for Lapaz batchoy, and a lot more.

I told myself that 2014 will be my travel more year. This time, it will be the year that I will care for myself more, living it all out, living more and traveling more, experiencing all what life has to offer. Now, here I am already fulfilling my promise to myself. I find myself one Friday afternoon, with my cousin Gretchen, my aunt Annie, new blogger friends Miko Carreon and Angela Nepomuceno, and friends from Smart Communication's Digital Team, Iris and Kim, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, waiting for our flight bound to what they call the heart of the Philippines, the birthplace of the Dinagyang Festival.

Iloilo International Airport: Built on June 14, 2007, it replaced the old Iloilo Airport in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. It is the 4th busiest airport in the Philippines, while it is the first airport in Western Visayas to be built to international standards, and one of the four airports in the region planned to be an international gateway.

We arrived in Iloilo and was welcomed with a festive mood right at the airport. We went straight to our hotel at Casa La Granja to rest and freshen up just before we headed out to catch the Live All Out Party Truck at Plazuela de Iloilo featuring DJ Brandon Jon and DJ Elmer Dado. The sets of both DJs were great. It was the right way to start our Iloilo trip and Dinagyang festivities!

Conquering Mt. Pulag Part 2: Climbing and Reaching the Summit

We arrived in Baguio before the break of dawn, which proved to be a little bit uncomfortable because of the really cold weather that greeted us. Nonetheless, we were all excited, as most of us were first timers in both climbing mountains and climbing Luzon's highest peak. We were fetched by our jeepney which brought us to a cafeteria-type restaurant where we had breakfast. After breakfast, we traveled from Baguio City to the Mount Pulag Protected Area Office (DENR Office) in Benguet, where we were briefed on what to expect and the proper decorum when climbing.

We were taking the easy trail - the Ambangeg Trail - to the summit of Mt. Pulag. Everyone climbing Pulag has to register with the DENR office first and undergo a briefing. Since Mt. Pulag is a National Park and a protected area, there are rules and regulations that should be observed when climbing the mountain.

After the DENR office, our jeepney brought us to the ranger station, which was located an hour away from where we were. The ranger station served as our starting point of our climb, and where we met our local guides (mandatory in all climbs to Pulag. You can opt to carry your own bag up or hire a porter who will bring it up for you for only Php 250 per way. Since it was my first time, and I want to experience how it was done, I opted to carry my own load.

It wasn't an easy hike, trust me. The trail was beginner-friendly, in the sense that you will just have to follow it, but it was a long two to three hours of walking, panting, drinking water, stopping, resting, and catching your every breath. With each step being a battle in my brain that I fought hard for, reaching camp was like hitting a gold mine!

Since there were a lot from our group who went ahead and reached the camp first, this was the view when we finally reached camp. It was already set-up, tents were just assigned to us. After settling down and changing clothes, we explored our camp, took pictures, and got ready for dinner. I was so famished that I ate so much. It was the best adobo I had in the longest. Or probably it was just because we were all tired and hungry.

What camp was like. Tents beside each other, maybe to keep everyone warm because it was really so cold.

After dinner, the three of us (Primex, Jerome and I) immediately went to bed. I wore my thermals, two jackets, scarf, hoodie and gloves, hoping it was already enough to beat the cold. Unfortunately, I woke up feeling cold close to chills several times in the middle of the night. The temperature went so low, it kept most of us awake.

Suddenly, our alarms went off at 3am. It was time to wake up and prepare for our assault. It was dark and so cold. It felt colder than when I was in China with snow. I put on my headlights, and grabbed my assault bag, and we were off to the summit by 3:30am.

We marched single file, looking at every step I took with my headlights, pointed at the ground and at the feet of the person in front of me, guiding me through the cold morning towards the summit. We reached the peak at around 5am. It was still dark and extremely cold, but the feeling inside was that of achievement and happiness. We were happy to have reached the top. All our efforts were rewarded, especially, when sunrise broke, and the sight was that of pure bliss.

Climbing Mt. Pulag was one of the great achievements I have ever done in my life. I never thought I would be able to do it this early, but thanks to Travel Factor, I was able to live my dream and experience a different adventure.

The climb taught me a lot of things, and gave me a lot of realizations. This experience was a renewal of my thirst for thrill and adventure, to live more and travel more this year. It taught me to have courage and determination, amidst all adversities and hardships. It taught me to never give up. It gave me new friends, whom I had fun with. But most of all, I connected with nature, which we all should protect and treasure, so that the future generations will have these wonders to appreciate and enjoy.

Tomorrow is here so live more and try climbing Mt. Pulag. I tell you that it would be the best decision you will make. You will not regret it. It is both a challenge and an eye-opener. You can do it. It is both fulfilling and rewarding to your body and soul. You just have to believe and you are half-way there! :)

Starbucks Philippines launches its Festival Tumblers starting off with Cebu's Sinulog Festival 2014. The Starbucks Sinulog Festival 2014 Tumbler will only be sold in Starbucks Cebu branches until supplies last, starting tomorrow, January 16 with a retail price of Php 565.00. Meanwhile the Starbucks Ati-Atihan Festival 2014 Tumbler is now available in Starbucks Boracay branch, until supplies last.

The designs of the Starbucks Festival Tumblers incorporates coffee elements. As you will notice, the headdress of the women dancing have coffee cherries, while the costumes have coffee flowers. It also supports the Department of Tourism's "It's More Fun in the Philippines" campaign by adding their own meme, "Festivals. More Fun in the Philippines." Let us support this creative way of promoting both tourism in the Philippines, through popular Philippine festivals, and love for good coffee. Collect them all!

Conquering Mt. Pulag Part 1: Preparations and Pre-climb

Last December 29, 2013, I conquered Mt. Pulag, the playground of the "gods", Luzon's highest peak, and the Philippines' 2nd highest peak; all of it was made possible and made better by Travel Factor and the new people I met on the trip!

It came in an unexpected but opportune time when Travel Factor, one of the Philippines' leading adventure travel companies, invited me to go with them on a trip to their Biyaheng Victory Conquer Pulag. I immediately grabbed the opportunity to live more and travel to a new destination. I did not hesitate even though I am climbing a mountain and camping for the first time. After all, Travel Factor is known for its excellent, fun, and hassle-free way of leading a group of travelers. Traveling is surely made better when you're with them.

We were asked to attend a pre-climb, where details of our trip, like the itinerary, things to bring, what to expect, and other important details, were discussed. After that, Travel Factor sent us individual emails of our itinerary, list of things to bring, reminders, and our coordinator and his contact details. They're very organized to the small details, and very beginner friendly. They do not assume that you already know what you're going into because, as I have observed, there are a number of travelers who just book the trip wanting to experience the adventure for the first time.

Mount Pulag is (still officially) the 2nd highest mountain in the Philippines, at 2,922 meters above sea level (masl), as of press time. Arguably, they say that it is already the 3rd highest mountain, next to Mt. Dulang-dulang in Bukidnon. Mount Pulag is bordered by different provinces, Benguet, Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya, and is a National Park, which keeps its environement, lands, waters and forests protected by law.

First time to try top loading on the jeep. It was both exhilarating and fun! You should try it once in your life, but remember to be careful.

I was very excited, at the same time a bit nervous because this is a completely new adventure for me, but that priceless view at the summit was all that was playing through my mind, and all that was keeping me going. Also than ks to my brother Jason, who is a mountain climber, I was able to get help in securing proper equipment and in packing all my things inside the bag.

Armed with excitement and thirst for adventure, I headed to Victory Liner Cubao to meet up with our coordinator Joven of Travel Factor, and the rest of the travelers. Our Victory Liner bus to Baguio left at 10:30pm in Cubao. Our itinerary is as follows:

A beacon of hope and generosity, the visit of international music icon Justin Bieber yesterday in Tacloban City was one for the books. Not only did it lighten the spirits of those who were directly affected by the recent super typhoon, but also rallied and reminded everyone that a lot of work has yet to be done. Justin Bieber reminded the whole world that each and everyone can make a difference by helping others. Justin's #GiveBackPhilippines would go a long way in helping rebuild the lives of those in Tacloban, and in other hard-hit areas.

Smart introduces postpaid plans for iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c

Smart Communications just announced it will offer the most awaited iPhone 5s, the most forward-thinking smartphone in the world, and iPhone 5c, the most colorful iPhone yet, to customers beginning November 15, 2013, Friday, in the Philippines.

Launching its online reservation and service application page (www.smart.com.ph/iPhone), Smart revealed today that it is offering its widest range of postpaid plans for the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c – giving subscribers flexible options to easily own the latest iPhones with the country’s most advanced mobile service network and widest LTE coverage.

Starbucks Philippines will launch this July 16 two new beverages with a twist, redefining your Starbucks coffee experience. Starbucks will take you to a cool coffee journey with its Dark Mocha White Chocolate Pudding Frappuccino Blended Beverage and Green Tea White Chocolate Pudding Frappuccino Blended Beverage.

The soft chewy texture of the White Chocolate Pudding adds a twist to your regular blended beverages. The Dark Mocha White Chocolate Pudding Frapp is a real treat for chocolate lovers as it combines the deep flavor of dark chocolate with that of a velvety and smooth white chocolate pudding, Starbucks' signature Frappuccino Roast coffee, chocolate chips, and milk, blended with ice. The Fast & Furious 6 cast graced Makati's Glorietta Activity Center a day after the movie's Asian Premiere, held also in the Philippines, to meet and greet their fans. The crowd was unimaginable, as everyone wanted to get a glimpse of the Hollywood stars, led by Vin Diesel. They were kind enough to sign posters and meet their fans. Fast & Furious 6 is now showing in theaters nationwide!

The crowd goes wild as they were exited to see their idols and get a chance to meet and greet them in person. Thanks to Ayala Malls Cinemas and to Tin Rementilla of Movent for making this happen :)

The Philippine All Stars thrilled the crowd with their world-class dancing and performance.

Ilocos Sur Travel Guide

The whole Ilocos region is a great destination, but you will appreciate it even better if you can focus on each region at a given time. For instance, Ilocos Sur is perhaps the best representative of Ilocos’ significant contribution to history. Let’s check out the things to do and places to see in this place up in the map of the Philippine Islands.

Vigan. Oh, this town deserves a longer time under the spotlight, but in summary, it is the most beautiful heritage walk in the Philippines. Calle Crisologo, in particular, is worthy of many shutter clicks and a blog entry, perhaps even a poem! Don't forget to also check out the burnayan, where you can create a clay pot ala Demi Moore.

Vigan Empanada. While Ilocos is home to different food specialties, Vigan empanada remains to be a favorite. In fact, everytime there is a trade fair in Manila, booths that sell Vigan empanada always have long lines of people wanting a taste of this baby! So have it right where it was created, where there’s no long line, and just the perfect setting to have a hearty merienda.

Vigan Longanisa. Since we’re already in the topic of food, it is also worthy to mention Vigan longanisa, one that isn't typical, and can easily please your choosy palate. It is garlicky rather than sweet, and is perfect with vinegar and garlic fried rice. You will most likely be served Vigan longanisa for breakfast in your hotel!

Sta. Maria Church. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Sta. Maria church is the first stop you will make upon reaching Ilocos Sur. It has a beautiful staircase that leads to a beautiful church. If you were using a camera loaded with film, you’d start to feel bad about how you’re so limited in taking photos. Luckily, we live in the digital age.

Baluarte. Just a short trip from the Vigan town center, Baluarte is a provate property owned by Governor Chavit Singson. Good thing he opened this to the public, because OMG this is such a hot property! It’s a zoo with a very interesting layout, which means kids will have fun exploring and adults will get in touch with their inner kid too. Although you won't be allowed to pet some animals, watching a python patiently wait for a live chicken for lunch can be quite interesting. Live Animal Planet, if you ask.

Travel Information

You can take a plane going to Laoag City via any domestic airline such as Cebu Pacific Air. From there, you simply need to take a bus ride that will take you to the land of windmills and beaches.

You can also opt for the longer, yet usually more enjoyable, mode of transportation, and that is hitting the road. Whether you go there with a driver or take a commuter bus, as long as you’re in good company, you’ll have one heck of a road trip to Ilocos Sur.

For the first time in twenty five years, Chateau 1771's executive chef, Vicky Rose Pacheco, introduces her top picks for lunch and dinner set menus for Valentine's Day: "a feast of light, fresh and festive for lunch while dinner features the rare French classics."

For lunch, worth the highlight is the watercress soup with lavash bread and its relieving, sophisticated texture. A natural super food, it’s heartwarming and oozing with revitalizing nutrients. While the main course, it will give you two options, but since grilling steak is a serious business at Chateau 1771, the seared U.S. beef tenderloin with blue cheese stuffing (P1, 300+) is a hefty reward for any meat lover. Made visually appetizing with grilled eggplant, zucchini, broccoli drizzled with roasted potatoes and fragrant roasted potatoes in olive oil, rosemary, and thyme, the 200 grams of pan seared beef laced with roasted garlic bacon sauce is brimming with juices and stuffing in every slice. If a version of this kind of flavor is what you’re rooting for but shying away from meat, go for the baked fish of the day (P1, 100+)—grilled and made tender with lemon, capers, thyme, and almonds. Judging from the risotto’s heavily-packed add-ons such as squid, shrimps made tasty in chicken and fish stock then topped with butter and parmigiano reggiano as a tasty finish, the risotto is the only fitting pair for a delicately cooked main course.

Dessert is as special as it features the melon’s juicy sweetness. Called the white cloud melon sabayon, it’s a refreshing dessert, lightly sweetened with poached meringue on whisked custard with melon and amaretto.

If planning for a romantic date, fork it out with a hot French dinner affair. Inventive and made from the freshest raw ingredients, Chateau 1771’s French-themed dinner focuses on the tasty yet uncomplicated classic dishes that are hard to find. For the soup, give the Swiss brown mushroom vol-au-vent with greens, edible flowers and pomegranate dressing a try. Delicately baked and in-house made, the French puff pastry round shell is filled with a creamy mixture smacked with garlic and thyme then deglazed with wine. With Swiss browns or the baby Portobello as the star in this soup, it results to an intriguing and heartwarming full-bodied taste.

Using a prime steak cut, the U.S. Angus bone-in rib steak with café de Paris butter (P2,600+), Duchess potatoes, and grilled ratatouille is every inch an irresistible meat from its cut to flavor. A ¾ inch thick slab of meat with the bone-in, it’s meant to be smothered with café de Paris butter spiced up with tarragon, rosemary, basil, and thyme with a spike of cognac.

If in the mood to try something exotic but not exactly like it, go for the French countryside comfort--the Rougie duck leg confit (P2, 400+). Another rare find, the duck meat is cured with salt, cooked in a special Dutch oven with the most-prized duck fat giving the flavor more depth and producing a velvety piece of meat. The result? A super tender meat that almost falls off the bones!

Good meal deserves a happy ending, so try the chocolate valrhona ganache tart with gorgonzola crème brulee on the side. Marrying the slightly salty flavor of Italian blue cheese and exuberant characteristics of chocolate valrhona plus the creamy and rich crème brulee, this dessert promises a palate-tickling cross between salty-sweet.
