Ruth Boulton is the Director and founder of The Training Point, a Worthing based training company specialising in management, employment laws and recruitment. Ruth will speak about ‘The pitfalls in employment laws when recruiting’, a highly relevant subject for both small and medium size businesses- this talk could save you a lot of pennies in legal fees.

Jacky Misson is the Director of Nido Marketing, a successful telemarketing company who won ‘Best place to work’ at the 2006/07 Brighton and Hove Business Awards. Jacky will share her ‘Top tips on how to recruit and retain the people you need’ which is undoubtedly one of Nido’s strong points.

This month, we invite you to join the City Business Club at the De Vere Grand Hotel on King's Road on Tuesday 30th October, from 8-10am for the Business Development module.

For those new to the City Business Club, it is a wonderful learning opportunity: we present an experienced speaker from the business community and plenty of networking opportunities with the more ‘seasoned’ Business Clubbers. This is all within a relaxed business environment, and topped off with a delicious breakfast.

This month, we have changed the format slightly - from two speakers to one, which will allow more time to network.We are very pleased to welcome Mike Herd as this month’s speaker. Mike is the Director of Sussex Innovation Centre. The Centre has a high profile both nationally and internationally and it is frequently cited as an example of best practice. Mike was named Sussex Businessman of the Year in November 2000, and the Sussex Innovation Centre was runner-up in the 2004 UKBI’s Incubator Exemplar award. Mike will be presenting “Business Development for an Ambitious Business - Think Big Act Small.” Clearly one of his expert areas - a presentation you do not want to miss!

Vine Brighton Web Season

Vine Brighton have arranged a series of very exciting and useful talks for the coming months on the topic of the internet. After listening to your suggestions - we realised that there are a number of business owners out there who are still baffled by the internet and what it can offer their business.

First in our season of web talks on 13th September - we have invited Tom Nixon, Director of Brighton based web design agency Nixon McInnes, along to talk to you all about Social Media.

Our October session will see web guru Andy Budd of Clear Left talking to us all about how do web design on a shoestring budget! More details to follow shortly.

Yummy Mummy Charity Walk

Leave it to the Ladies, the online directory for business women is about to launch the first of its networking events on Friday 3 August at the Spread Eagle Hotel in Midhurst, West Sussex from 12 noon until 2 pm.

The next City Business Club (Maximising Potential) takes place on the Tuesday 31st July, 8 till 10 AM at the Alias Seattle Hotel, Brighton Marina.

Much interest has already been shown for the forthcoming event, where CBC will be looking at ‘maximising potential’. For those who have not yet made their reservation I would be quick as the last meeting was over subscribed.

This month, the first speaker is Sarah Hopwood of Paul Hopwood Consulting, who will enlighten everyone about how attitude and perspective can be the real key to success. The second speaker is Duncan Brodie of Goals and Achievements, who can show you how to maximise both our personal and business potential and achieve real results.

Do you find you’ve got too much to do and not enough time to get everything done?

You’re most certainly not alone. Sometimes we’re actually too busy to stick our head above the parapet and take a few minutes to look around and see what we really need to be focusing our time on.

If you'd like to have more time in your day, why not take just one hour out of your busy working week and come along to my Time Management Workshop. For the first time, I’ll be bringing my world-renowned teleclass to Brighton. OK, world-renowned may be stretching it a bit but I’ve certainly had participants from around the world joining my regular one-hour teleclasses.

Now I'd like to share my tips, techniques and strategies in a group format. In one hour, you will find out how to:

Deal with Priorities – focus on what should be doing.
Avoid Distractions – manage those emails, phone calls and people.
Maximise Your Income – spend more of your time working on money earning tasks.
If you work for yourself then time is money, make sure you’re using it wisely.

The session costs just £15 and there are a maximum number of 10 places available in each session. Bring a friend or colleague and pay only £10 each.

I’ve scheduled a couple of time slots to make it even easier to fit it in or around your working day. The sessions will take place in central Brighton (near the Theatre Royal), so easy access by foot, bus, train or even car.
