With utility rates for Bay State businesses reaching record highs, the “cost of waiting” has never been greater.

By combining C-PACE financing with the 40% Federal Tax Credit and the permanent 100% bonus depreciation reinstated by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), Brightstar Solar is helping local companies achieve a “cash-flow positive” installation from Day 1.

1. C-PACE: The Strategic Capital Solution

C-PACE (Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy) is a unique financing structure that treats solar as a property improvement rather than a corporate loan.

Off-Balance Sheet: It typically doesn’t count as traditional debt, preserving your borrowing power for other business needs.

Double Tax Benefit: Because C-PACE is repaid via a property tax assessment, you can potentially deduct the interest portion of the assessment while simultaneously taking the depreciation deduction on the equipment itself.

Transferable: If you sell the property, the assessment (and the energy savings) stays with the building, adding immediate appraised value.

2. The 40% Advantage: Capturing the Domestic Content Bonus

While the base Investment Tax Credit (ITC) is 30%, we help our clients reach a 40% tax credit by meeting the 2026 “Domestic Content” requirements.

The 50% Rule: To qualify for the 10% bonus, 100% of the steel/iron and at least 50% of the manufactured products (panels and inverters) must be U.S.-made.

The Reamortization Power Move: When you receive that 40% tax refund, C-PACE allows you to make a large voluntary prepayment. Your lender can then reamortize the remaining balance, significantly lowering your future annual payments.

3. The OBBBA Windfall: 80% First-Year Deduction

The tax landscape changed dramatically with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), which permanently reinstated 100% bonus depreciation for qualified property placed in service after January 19, 2025.

The 80% Rule: Because the tax basis is reduced by half of the ITC (a 20% reduction for a 40% credit), your total first-year depreciation deduction equals 80% of the total system cost.

Immediate Shield: Between the 40% credit and the 80% depreciation write-off, many commercial owners recover the majority of their project cost in the very first tax filing.

Is Your Building Ready?

C-PACE is available for commercial, non-profit, industrial, and multi-family (5+ units) properties. As of March 18, 2026, over 80 MA communities have opted in, including Hopkinton, Needham, Acton, and Westborough.

At Brightstar Solar, we don’t just ‘install panels.’ We act as your project’s financial architect. We take the lead on the complex ‘Savings-to-Investment’ math that C-PACE lenders and tax pros need to see. Our goal is to make sure your solar array does more than just produce green energy—it needs to act as a high-performing asset that grows your property value while leaving your day-to-day working capital exactly where it belongs: in your business.

For many Massachusetts business owners and non-profits, the desire to switch to solar often hits a common roadblock: Capital. You want the long-term energy independence, but you need to keep your working capital focused on operations, payroll, and growth.

That is where C-PACE (Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy) comes in. As of March 2026, this financing model has become the standard for commercial, industrial, and multi-family property owners across the Commonwealth looking to modernize their infrastructure without the traditional debt burden.

What is C-PACE?

C-PACE is a low-cost, long-term financing option that allows you to fund 100% of your solar installation and energy efficiency upgrades. Unlike a traditional bank loan, the financing is tied to the property, not the business owner or the company’s credit line.

The Strategic Advantages of C-PACE for Your Property:

1. Preserve Working Capital: C-PACE covers 100% of the hard and soft costs. There is no large “down payment” required, allowing you to keep your cash reserves for business operations.

2. Off-Balance Sheet Treatment: Because the financing is secured by a local property assessment rather than a corporate note, it typically does not appear as traditional debt on your balance sheet.

3. Guaranteed ROI: A core requirement of the C-PACE program is demonstrating that the energy savings will outweigh the cost of the investment. Brightstar Solar helps you prepare the technical data to prove this “savings-to-investment” ratio.

4. Transferable Upon Sale: The assessment is tied to the land and the building. If you sell the property, the remaining balance (and the lower operating costs) transfers to the new owner. This makes it a “win-win” for both the seller and the buyer.

5. Flexible Reamortization: When you receive your Federal Tax Credit refund, you can apply it as a voluntary prepayment. C-PACE lenders can then reamortize the remaining balance, further reducing your future annual payments.

A Comprehensive Energy Solution

While Brightstar Solar specializes in high-efficiency commercial solar arrays, C-PACE can be used to bundle other critical infrastructure upgrades into one project:

High-efficiency boilers, furnaces, and chillers

Motors, drives, and LED lighting

Building envelopes (insulation and air sealing)

Energy Management Systems (EMS)

Is Your Community “PACE Ready”?

As of March 18, 2026, over 80 Massachusetts communities have adopted PACE, including Hopkinton, Grafton, Acton, Bedford, Billerica and Burlington. (See the full list of participating towns below).

In Massachusetts, we have a saying: Make hay while the sun shines. If you own a solar system, you can apply that same logic to your electric bill.

While New England winters are famous for short days and snow-covered roofs, Massachusetts has one of the best “savings accounts” in the country for solar owners: 1:1 Net Metering. At Brightstar Solar, we design systems that don’t just power your home in July—they effectively pre-pay your utility bills for January.

How the “Summer Bank” Works

Massachusetts law requires utilities like National Grid and Eversource to offer Net Metering. Think of the grid as a giant, free battery.

The Overproduction Phase (May–August): During the long days of summer, your solar panels often produce far more electricity than your home actually uses. That excess energy flows back onto the grid.

The Spinning Meter: Your utility meter literally “spins backward” (digitally speaking), and you receive 1:1 credits on your bill. If you sent 500 kWh of extra power to the grid, you get 500 kWh worth of credit at the full retail rate (currently around $0.32/kWh in 2026).

The Bank Account: These credits don’t expire at the end of the month. They roll over, month after month, creating a “bank” of credits.

Carrying Your Credits Into Winter

By the time November hits, a well-designed solar system has usually built up a significant credit balance.

When the sun sets at 4:30 PM and the snow starts falling, your solar production naturally drops. This is when you “withdraw” from your bank. Your utility bill will show that you used electricity from the grid, but instead of charging your credit card, the utility simply subtracts those units from your accumulated summer credits.

The result? Many Brightstar Solar customers pay only the minimum monthly connection fee (usually around $7.00 for Eversource and National Grid) even in the dead of winter.

Why Ownership Beats Leasing for Net Metering

This is where the “Ownership vs. Lease” debate gets real.

If you OWN your system: You are the “bank owner.” You keep 100% of those retail-rate credits. If utility rates go up, the value of your banked credits goes up too.

If you Lease or use a PPA: You often pay a third-party company for the power the panels produce as they produce it. You don’t get the same long-term “equity” in your utility credits, and you’re still stuck with their annual escalators .

The SMART Bonus

On top of the bill credits, Massachusetts owners also participate in the SMART 3.0 Program. While Net Metering lowers your bill, the SMART program sends you a separate incentive based on your total generation. It’s essentially a “double dip”:

Net Metering wipes out your utility bill.

SMART Incentives provide a return on your investment.

Expert Note from Brightstar Solar

“In 2026, we’ve seen a shift in the MA market. With the expiration of the federal tax credit for individuals, many national ‘Big Solar’ companies are pushing PPAs harder than ever to capture the corporate credits for themselves. We investigated these providers and found that for the average Massachusetts homeowner, the long-term ROI of ownership—even without the federal credit—outperforms the PPA by nearly 3x when you account for Net Metering and SMART 3.0 income.”

Is Your Roof Ready for the Summer Bank?

At Brightstar Solar, we don’t just slap panels on a roof. We look at your annual usage history to “right-size” your system. We want to ensure you produce enough in the summer to cover those cold February nights without over-investing in a system that’s larger than you need.

The Bottom Line

Solar ownership isn’t just about “going green”—it’s about financial strategy. By owning your system, you take control of your energy costs and turn the utility company into your personal savings bank.

Running a childcare facility in Massachusetts has never been more challenging. As a business owner, you are likely feeling a “triple squeeze”: a persistent labor shortage driving up wages, skyrocketing insurance premiums, and rent that never seems to stop climbing.

To keep your doors open and your tuition somewhat affordable for local families, many providers have to maximize enrollment just to break even. But there is one major fixed cost you can control: your electricity bill.

Locking in Lower Operating Costs

Massachusetts has some of the highest commercial electricity rates in the country. For a daycare—where lights, HVAC, and kitchen appliances run all day—energy is a massive drain on the bottom line.

By transitioning to solar with Brightstar Solar, you essentially “pre-pay” for 25 years of electricity at a fraction of the utility’s rate. This transforms a volatile monthly expense into a predictable, low-cost asset, allowing you to reallocate those funds where they matter most: your educators and your curriculum.

A recent Brightstar Solar project in Marlborough, featuring a 100-panel array designed to maximize savings for a local childcare center.

More Than Just Savings: A Teaching Moment

In Massachusetts, parents aren’t just looking for a safe place for their kids; they are looking for a community that aligns with their values.

Brand Reputation: Going solar sends a powerful message to parents about your commitment to a sustainable future. It’s a competitive advantage that can help you maintain full enrollment.

Educational Opportunities: Solar panels provide a visible STEM lesson. Imagine showing the children how the sun powers their classroom. It turns a piece of infrastructure into a daily lesson in science and stewardship.

The Roadmap to 40% Savings

In 2026, the financial argument for solar has shifted from “good for the environment” to “essential for the bottom line.” Between federal tax credits and state-specific programs, the payback period for a Massachusetts daycare is now often under 5 years.

The Massachusetts Solar Advantage

As shown in the guide above, we help childcare providers navigate a complex but highly rewarding incentive landscape:

40% Federal Tax Credit: Most commercial projects qualify for a 30% credit, but many childcares can reach 40% by utilizing “Energy Community” or “Domestic Content” bonuses.

SMART 3.0 Incentives: Receive direct monthly payments from your utility for every kilowatt-hour your system produces.

100% Tax Exemptions: Under MA law, your solar system is exempt from both Sales Tax and Property Tax for 20 years.

Financing Made Easy: There are several Massachusetts-specific commercial solar loans available. We counsel you on the best options to ensure you are cash-flow positive from Day 1.

A Proven Track Record: A Marlborough Daycare Success Story

We don’t just claim to understand the childcare industry; we have the data to prove it. In Marlborough, we’ve had the privilege of partnering with a Marlborough daycare to transform their energy profile across multiple phases.

Phase 1 (2018): We installed a 62-panel system designed to offset their primary facility’s high daily usage.

Phase 2 (2019): After seeing the immediate impact on their bottom line, they invited us back just one year later to install a second, 100-panel array on their neighboring building.

This long-term partnership is a testament to the “Brightstar Standard.” Because we specialize in clean, non-industrial aesthetics, we were able to provide a massive 100-panel installation that complements the school’s appearance while providing the maximum possible financial return. When you choose Brightstar, you’re choosing a team that local educators have trusted to power their facilities for nearly a decade.

Start Your Analysis Today

The window to lock in the maximum 2026 incentives is closing. Don’t let rising utility rates dictate your tuition fees.

Contact Brightstar Solar today at 617-564-0050 or request a free site assessment of your Massachusetts facility.

In 2026, the question isn’t whether solar still works in Massachusetts—it’s how much you’re willing to pay not to have it. With local electricity rates now averaging 34 cents per kWh, the “wait and see” approach has become an expensive gamble. While the national average stays around 17 cents, Massachusetts homeowners are paying double, ranking us among the most expensive states for energy in the country.

At Brightstar Solar, we see it every day: solar is no longer just an environmental choice; it’s a strategic financial guard against a utility market that is increasingly volatile.

The Math of Doing Nothing

Consider a typical home in Middlesex County using about 11,172 kWh per year. At current rates, that’s roughly $3,756 per year in electricity costs.

Because utilities like Eversource and National Grid frequently implement double-digit rate hikes, even a conservative 3% annual escalator shows a staggering cost of delay:

In 10 years: ~$43,000 paid to the utility with $0 return.

When you invest in solar, you aren’t just buying panels; you are changing your relationship with energy. You are choosing to own your power supply rather than renting it indefinitely at a rising cost.

In the fast-moving world of renewable energy, solar companies often come and go like the seasons. At Brightstar Solar, we’ve spent the last 15 years doing things differently.

Founded in Marlborough, MA, in 2009 by Jon and Mona Reese, we are a family-owned and operated team dedicated to serving Eastern and Central Massachusetts. We don’t just install panels; we build long-term relationships. If you’re looking for the best solar installer in Massachusetts, here is why our 700+ customers chose us.

We are not a national chain, a sales organization, or a company that flies in crews from out of state. We live here, work here, and have built our reputation one project at a time.

1. Stability You Can Count On

We’ve weathered every storm in the solar market. While large national installers have folded or abandoned the state, we’ve stayed local and lean. We frequently receive calls from “orphaned” solar customers whose original installers went bankrupt or stopped answering the phone. At Brightstar, when you call with an issue, an owner—Jon or Mona—picks up the phone.

2. The Most Experienced Crew in the State

Our reliability is built on the people who show up at your home. Most of our team has been with us for over a decade:

Kenny Warden: Senior Installation Manager for nearly 15 years.

Dave Frkal: Project Foreman for over 12 years.

With thousands of roof penetrations across the state, we have never had a leak. While other companies use “flashless” mounts to save money, we invest in the best mounting equipment to ensure your roof stays weather-tight for the next 25 years.

3. Trusted — with a Track Record that Speaks for Itself

Trust matters in solar, especially when systems are expected to perform for 25–30 years.

We have never received a bad review related to our workmanship or customer service.

We were recognized as Solar Power World’s Top Solar Contractor 13 times in a row.

We are consistently rated highly across Google, Yelp, Angi, SolarReviews, Facebook, and EnergySage.

Many of our customers hire us two or three times—and then refer us to their parents, siblings, and even their adult children.

When customers call us years later, it’s not a call center that answers. Jon or Mona Reese will pick up the phone.

4. Local Expertise: We Know Your Neighborhood

Permitting and utility regulations in Massachusetts are complex. We have deep experience working with National Grid, Eversource, and Unitil and the dozens of municipal utilities scattered throughout the state. Whether it’s navigating historic commission rules or meeting specific MA solar fire pathway requirements, we know exactly what local building and wiring inspectors are looking for.

5. Turnkey Solutions & Best-in-Class Equipment

We provide a fully turnkey experience, managing everything from design and construction to post-installation support. We only install Tier 1 high-efficiency panels and inverter technology with Module-Level Power Electronics (MLPE). This ensures:

Individual panel tracking (MPPT) for maximum production.

Easy integration for battery storage in the future.

A system that is as cost-effective as it is powerful.

6. Financing Designed for You

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all pricing. We offer guidance on local and income-specific financing programs that larger companies often ignore, including:

Energy Saver Home Loan: Low-interest solar loan options for income-qualified residents throughout Massachusetts.

Shrewsbury Credit Union: Low interest solar loans for residents in Berlin, Boylston, Clinton, Grafton, Holden, Millbury, Northborough, Shrewsbury, Sterling, West Boylston, Westborough and Worcester.

ReNew Program: Fund created to provide clean energy and energy efficiency support to Andover, North Andover, and Lawrence homeowners and business owners.

SELCO Loan: 0% interest solar loans for Shrewbsury Electric Light company customers.

UMassFive’s MySolarLoan: Fixed rate financing without tying up equity available to all MA homeowners and businesses. The loan is secured on the equipment rather than your home or business.

Experience the Brightstar Difference

From day one, our goal was simple:
do high-quality solar work, treat customers like neighbors, and stay local for the long haul.

More than 700 solar installations and 30,000 panels later, we’re still doing exactly that.

We are not a national chain, a sales organization, or a company that flies in crews from out of state. We live here, work here, and have built our reputation one project at a time across Central and Eastern Massachusetts.

With previous experience in financial management at large public companies, we know how to run a business. We pay and treat our employees well but keep all other areas of our operation as lean as possible so that we can pass that cost savings on to our customers. No salespeople, no fancy storefront, none of your dollars wasted.

While other solar companies pitch jobs at a fixed cost per watt or per panel, we custom price every single job we bid on so you can be confident you’re getting our best price.

Following our latest blizzard, roof cleaning companies from the Metrowest to the North Shore are working overtime to combat the “silent killer” of Massachusetts homes: the ice dam.

At Brightstar Solar, we receive one question more than any other during a freeze: “Are my solar panels making this worse, or are they helping?” The answer lies in the unique thermal science of a New England winter.

What Exactly is an Ice Dam?

Ice dams aren’t just “extra ice.” They occur when heat escaping from your attic melts the snow on the upper part of your roof. That water runs down to the colder, unheated eaves (the edges) and refreezes. This creates a literal dam that traps subsequent meltwater, forcing it under your shingles and into your ceilings, dormers, and walls. If you see “shadows” on your ceiling or leaking soffits, you likely have an ice dam problem.

The Solar Shield: How Solar Panels Protect Your Roof from Ice Dams

Contrary to what some believe, a professionally built solar array typically acts as a protective shield. The “air gap” between your panels and shingles acts as secondary insulation, keeping the roof deck temperature more consistent.

Slick Surfaces: Snow doesn’t “grip” a solar panel like it does an asphalt shingle. Panels allow snow to shed in large sheets before it has the chance to go through the freeze-thaw cycle that creates dams.

Ice Dam Prevention for Massachusetts Homes

If you are currently seeing buildup, don’t panic. Here is how to manage a roof in a New England winter with or without solar panels:

The “Bottom 6 Feet” Rule: Use a telescoping roof rake to clear snow from the bottom 3–6 feet of your roof and your gutters. This creates a “runway” for meltwater to exit. If you have solar panels, never touch the panels themselves with a standard rake. Only use a soft specialized roof rake or you can damage your equipment.

Clean Your Gutters: If your gutters are clogged with autumn leaves, that water will back up and freeze instantly. Solar panels increase the speed of water runoff so it’s even more important to have those gutters cleaned or protected from debris.

The MassSave Advantage: As a Massachusetts resident, you have access to a secret weapon. The MassSave program (funded by Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil) offers no-cost home energy assessments. They can identify “heat bypasses” in your attic. By increasing your insulation and sealing leaks, you keep your roof deck cold, which stops ice dams at the source.

Fix Insufficient Ventilation: One solution is to add more roof and soffit vents, which help exhaust hot attic air to the outside of your home. This may seem counterintuitive, but you’re not letting cold air into your home—it’s just the attic that gets cold.

Heat Trace Cables: For complex New England rooflines or north-facing eaves, you can install heavy-duty heat trace cables in a zigzag patten along eaves. These create a heated path for runoff, ensuring the water has somewhere to go even in sub-zero temps.

Don’t Let the “Big Snow” Damage Your Home

Ice dams are a warning sign that your home is losing energy and money. Whether you already have solar or are planning an installation for 2026, the best defense for your roof is a ample insulation, proper ventilation, and a clear path for meltwater.

From Sharon seeing a staggering 32.5 inches of snow to Andover hitting 21 inches, and 273,000 neighbors losing power, it was a true test of New England resilience.

At Brightstar Solar, our hearts are with those still waiting for the lights to come back on. As schools remain closed and we dig out, we want to address what this means for your solar investment.

The “Safe Shut-Down” Reality

If your power is currently out, you may have noticed your solar system isn’t producing. For the safety of the utility workers currently on the lines in Marlborough and across the state, all grid-tied solar systems automatically shut down during an outage. This “anti-islanding” feature ensures no power is pushed back onto the grid while National Grid and Eversource crews are working to restore service.

The Resilience Test: Engineering vs. 80 MPH Winds

While the wind gusts topped 80 MPH, your solar array was designed for exactly this. High-quality racking and Tier 1 panels are engineered to withstand extreme wind uplift and heavy snow loads. Your roof is actually protected by the panels, which act as a shield against the elements.

The “Day After” Bonus: The Albedo Effect

The sun is out today, but it’s still freezing. While most systems are still tucked under a thick blanket of white, you might notice a few lucky neighbors already have clear panels.

Why do some clear faster? * Thermal Absorption: Solar panels are dark and absorb heat. Even in 20-degree weather, the sun warms the cells, creating a thin layer of meltwater that allows the snow to “shelf” and slide off.

The Albedo Boost: Once your panels are clear, they actually perform better on a day like today. Why? The “Albedo Effect.” The fresh snow on your lawn acts like a giant mirror, reflecting extra sunlight onto your panels. Combined with the cold air—which makes solar cells more efficient—today could actually be a high-production day despite the record snowfall.

The “Start in February” Strategy Still Wins This storm is a reminder of why we plan early. If you want to be “Shining in June,” we need to handle the paperwork while the snow is still on the ground. Let’s get your system ready for the 2026 summer peak sun. Call us at 617-564-0050 or fill out our solar evaluation form if you’re interested in solar panels for your Massachusetts home or business.

However, maintaining a large, climate-controlled facility in Massachusetts presents a modern challenge. The Commonwealth has the third highest electric rate in the country, only behind Hawaii and California.

As we move through 2026, forward-thinking funeral directors in Marlborough, Framingham, and Sudbury are turning to solar not just as a “green” initiative, but as a critical tool to decrease Net Operating Expenses and increase property value.

The 2026 Tax Deadline: A Sense of Urgency

The financial math for solar has reached a “now or never” moment due to federal tax law changes:

The 30% Benefit: The 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) is currently set for a major shift. To guarantee this massive credit, your project must be “placed in service” by December 31, 2026.

The July 4th “Safe Harbor”: If your facility’s schedule or a complex roof design requires more time, you can still protect the 30% rate by “Safe Harboring” the project by July 4, 2026. By spending just 5% of the project cost before this summer deadline, you lock in the 30% credit for a project completed as late as December 2027.

Aesthetics Matter: Clean, Purposeful, and Balanced

We understand that for a funeral home, the exterior is a reflection of the care provided inside. A cluttered, industrial-looking solar array is not an option. At Brightstar Solar, we specialize in Aesthetic Solar Design that complements your architecture rather than detracting from it:

All-Black Panels: We utilize premium, high-efficiency all-black modules that blend seamlessly into shingle roofs.

Flush-Mount Systems: Our arrays are installed low-profile to maintain the silhouette of your building.

Hidden Conduit: Unlike many installers who run silver piping across the roof, we prioritize running conduit through attics or behind facades to keep the mechanical elements out of sight.

Symmetry and Balance: We design layouts that respect the visual lines of your facility, ensuring the solar system looks like a purposeful part of the original design.

The ROI: Turning Sunlight into Sustainability

Beyond the immediate tax credit, funeral homes benefit from:

Accelerated Depreciation (MACRS): Deducting the bulk of your system cost in the first year to significantly lower your 2026 tax bill.

Brand Alignment: Families are increasingly choosing businesses that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability. Solar is a visible symbol of your dedication to the community’s future.

SMART 3.0 Incentives: Receive monthly payments from the state of Massachusetts just for generating clean power.

Why Trust Brightstar Solar?

Choosing an installer is about more than just a quote; it’s about local expertise.

17 Years of Excellence: Founded in 2009, we are a family-owned business with over 700 successful Massachusetts installs.

Top-Tier Recognition: Brightstar Solar has been featured on Solar Power World’s Top Solar Contractor list for 13 consecutive years.

Local Roots: Based right here in Marlborough, we know the permitting and interconnection standards of National Grid, Eversource, and Unitil better than anyone.

For dentists across the Commonwealth, 2026 is a pivotal year. For a typical practice in Waltham, Natick, or Acton, energy isn’t just a utility; it’s a significant drain on clinical margins. At Brightstar Solar, we believe that the roof over your practice is your most underutilized financial asset.

While electricity rates continue to climb—with Eversource and National Grid seeing supply rate hikes this February—a significant federal tax window is beginning to close. If you have been considering solar to offset the high energy costs of your autoclaves, imaging systems, and HVAC, the timeline for maximum financial return has officially shifted into high gear. To secure the full 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), your project must meet critical milestones by mid-summer.

The July 4, 2026 Deadline: Why Urgency Matters

The most pressing reason to evaluate solar right now is the closing window for the Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC). While the 30% credit has been a staple of commercial solar for years, new legislative milestones have created a strict timeline for 2026:

The 30% Lock-In: To guarantee the full 30% tax credit, construction must technically begin by July 4, 2026.

The “Safe Harbor” Strategy: As a family-owned company with 17 years of experience, Brightstar Solar specializes in helping businesses “Safe Harbor” their projects. By committing to the project and spending just 5% on qualifying equipment before the July deadline, you lock in the 30% rate even if the system isn’t fully operational until 2027.

The Risk of Delay: Missing this summer window could mean navigating stricter sourcing requirements or reduced credit tiers, potentially doubling your system’s payback period.

Maximizing the “Massachusetts Stack”

Beyond federal credits, Massachusetts offers a unique “stack” of incentives that make commercial solar for dentists exceptionally profitable. When we design systems for practices like Kirk Dental in Sudbury or Dental Associates of Marlborough, we ensure they capture every available dollar:

SMART 3.0 Program: This updated state program provides a fixed, performance-based incentive for every kilowatt-hour your panels produce. Because many dental offices feature pitched, shingle roofs—the “gold standard” for solar efficiency—they often qualify for higher incentive blocks and building-mounted “adders.”

Net Metering: We work closely with National Grid, Eversource, and Unitil to ensure your system is properly interconnected. Net metering allows your practice to “bank” excess energy produced during sunny weekends and use it to offset costs during high-draw surgery hours.

MACRS Depreciation: Businesses can take advantage of accelerated depreciation, allowing you to deduct a significant portion of the system’s cost in year one, drastically improving your short-term cash flow.

Double Tax Exemption: In Massachusetts, solar is 100% exempt from both Sales Tax (6.25%) and Property Tax for 20 years. You gain the equity of a modernized building without the tax penalty.

Why Brightstar Solar is the Local Choice

Since 2009, Brightstar Solar has completed over 700 installations exclusively within Massachusetts. We aren’t a national corporation; we are a family-owned team that understands the specific building codes of Framingham, the permitting nuances in Marlborough, and the interconnection standards of National Grid and Eversource.

Whether your practice sits under a traditional pitched roof or a modern flat-roof commercial suite, we have the experience to handle the engineering, permitting, and utility paperwork without disrupting your patient schedule.

Conclusion: Protect Your Practice for 2026 and Beyond

With energy prices rising and the July 4th ITC deadline approaching, the cost of “waiting until next year” has never been higher. Transitioning to solar allows you to lock in your energy rates for the next 25 years, turning an unpredictable expense into a controlled, fixed asset.
