WOW! At just a minute past midnight I just happened to surf over to Wikipedia to do a little research when I discovered that today is SOPA day on the internet. I had know this was coming, in order to protest the fatally flawed anti-internet piracy act which had at one time seemed fated to fly through Congress, sites like Google, Facebook and Wikipedia were planning a protest. But seeing that blacked out page where Wikipedia should be was really stunning. I've already used the links they provided to contact both my US Senators and my Congresswoman to let them know that the last thing I think Congress should be doing is monkeying around with the internet at the behest of corporate giants like Warner Bros. and Newscorp.
And if you happen to read this, I hope you follow those same links and let Washington know to keep their mitts off our internet.

Just read David Brooks column in the NYTimes about the race in South Carolina.
Apparently he brought along his 12 year old son to size up the candidates. The kid liked all of them except Newt Gingrich, who became uncomfortable with the boy's questions on gay marriage -- and then called for security to get Brook's son away from him. Hilarious!!! The kid sounds kind of weird, thought. His heroes include John Boehner and Tupac Shakur. What is Brooks doing to this kid???

If you haven't heard about this, you should do yourself a favor and Google the word "Santorum," as in Rick Santorum, the Gay hating conservative from Penn. who's running for President. Despite the fact that Santorum came in second in the Iowa Caucuses, the first search result which comes up is a fake one started by writer Dan Savage as a way of tweaking Rick for all of his anti-gay rhetoric. Very funny and clever use of search engine results!

Okay, I was bad this week and spent some time on vacation in Vegas rather than doing commentary on the Iowa Caucuses. But based on the total lack of excitement or passion the Caucuses seem to have produced in the Republican electorate, I think my time in Vegas may have been well spent, because the whole nomination process seems to be closer to a drunken gambling spree in las Vegas rather than a thoughtful, reasoned attempt to replace Obama with a Republican President.
The Bottom line in 2012 is that the Republicans best able to have challenged President Obama chose not to run because they know exactly how difficult its going to be to beat him when he's in full campaign mode. And with the jobless rate having dropped today to 8.5%, their decision not to run seems well made.

I don't like to think about him being so calculating, but the timing on this one is incredible. Just as he's sinking in the polls in Iowa, he appears before a group of Mothers and cries about his own mother. This is, understand, the demographic which probably hates the guy the most, after the way he cheated on and divorced two of his previous wives -- one while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery.
Gingrich was also overheard, after the event, speaking to his grandson about how he was emotional on stage, which makes one wonder if he hadn't been thinking about the event for a while.

Newt Gingrich's New Years Resolutions

Well, this is the time of year when most people are putting together their New Years Resolutions, but with Newt Gingrich being so busy on the campaign trail, I thought he might need a little help with his, so here are some suggestions

1.) People hate know-it-alls. Try acting a little befuddled. It worked for Reagan and W.
2.) Send Callista to Hairspray rehab and get her off the stuff. No one wants a First Lady who looks like she’s wearing a blonde motorcycle helmet all the time.
3.) Do not accept an invitation to host Saturday Night Live. You’re not funny and no one wants to hear you dropping references to French Colonial Africa in your monologue,
4.) Start being nice to Ron Paul. He’s not going to win the nomination, but his followers will kill for him, so don’t piss them off.
5.) Go on a diet. It will make you look less smug.
6.) Say something really stupid and out of left field once in a while. Republican voters seem to eat that sort of stuff up!
7.) Do more book signings! Gotta keep the cash flowing until the campaign falls apart.
8.) Reach out to the Cialis people. You and Callista would be perfect in an erectile dysfunction commercial!
9.) Knock it off with all the stuff about converting to Catholicism. Someone who’s spent his whole adult life being a jerk should keep his mouth shut about now being off the hook for it all. People don’t like to see jerks get away with being jerks.
10.) Enjoy the spotlight while you can. When’s the last time Herman Cain’s name came up in a conversation?

What's Missing in Iowa

I've spent way too much of my life watching political coverage of Presidential Politics, but one of the trade-offs is that its left me with an ability to know when something's missing in the coverage on CNN, MSNBC, ABC and all the others -- with the exception of Fox News Channel, which I only watch on rare occasions.

And what's missing from their coverage of Iowa this year are rallies-- you know, groups of hundreds or thousands of people packed into an auditorium or civic center being whipped up into a frenzy by the likes of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton or John McCain. In pretty much every election cycle I've seen it happen in Iowa, but not this time. Maybe I've missed Newt or Mitt or one of the Ricks pull this off, but if they're doing it I'm just not catching any of the footage. In fact, the only guy tramping around in the Iowa cornfields who I think is capable of working that magic is Ron Paul, because his followers are absolutely crazy about him So much so that if his stances on a few of the issues were anything approaching normal, I might think he could run away with the nomination.

At the very least I think we're going to see him win Iowa-- or place as a close second.

So yes, most of what I do on YouTube is political in nature, but I also just like to goof around on the site doing this and that (as well as some straight up comedy.) I do the "Ms. Lily Knows Cats" videos with my wife, who loves cats about as much as anything in life (with the exception of our two sons --most days!) They make her happy, which makes me happy, and also allows her to share the YouTube experience with me.
So Merry Christmas and tell Newt Gingrich to watch his back, cause I'm coming for him -- comedically speaking. Mitt Romney is safe for a while longer. . . Oh, and I've got something planned for Ron Paul as well -- but I kind of like him (not his politics so much) so I'll be gentle.
