IRS poised to get $80 billion in new funding over the coming decade if the Inflation Reduction Act passes

The Internal Revenue Service’s operations are catching heat as the tax agency is in line for an $80 billion budget boost under the Democrats’ proposed spending plan — and now there’s intense attention being focused on IRS workers who actually pack heat.

It started as criticism from Republican leaders that the tax-collecting agency would bring on 87,000 new employees to “target regular, everyday Americans” with the $80 billion earmarked for the IRS in the Inflation Reduction Act reconciliation bill, which looks poised to become law. That’s a “misleading” claim, according to the Associated Press.

The bill passed Friday in a 220-207 vote of the House of Representatives and is now headed to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

In recent days there’s been an online stir over job postings for IRS special agents who carry guns as part of their work with the IRS’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Though the job is really about sniffing out income and accounting irregularities to build legal cases, one of the potential duties is “conduct[ing] or participat[ing] in surveillance, armed escorts, dignitary protection, undercover operations, execution of search and arrest warrants, seizures, etc.,” the job listing states.

There are 300 vacancies for that role, which pays between $50,704 and $89,636 annually, according to the listing.

Though the job listing drew new attention this week, requiring some IRS special agents to potentially use deadly force is nothing new, an IRS criminal-investigation spokeswoman confirmed.

“The job description is consistent with previous special-agent announcements for the same position and consistent with announcements from other federal law-enforcement agencies,” the spokeswoman said, noting that the Criminal Investigation Division at the IRS is on its own the federal government’s sixth largest law-enforcement agency.

Following is some context on the special-agent listing and the broader debate over more funding for the IRS.

As a starting point, the estimate of the IRS’s bringing on 87,000 new employees came in 2021 from the Treasury Department, the AP noted. It would be a multiyear hiring plan and would encompass extra auditors plus an array of other jobs amid retirement and other IRS attrition, the AP added.

IRS ranks have been shrinking over the years. The IRS’s annual data book shows that in the last fiscal year it had almost 79,000 full-time workers, nearly a 13% decrease from fiscal 2012.

Data show the criminal division is a sliver of the IRS’s overall workforce. The division includes approximately 3,000 employees, with 2,100 being sworn agents, the spokeswoman noted.

As the agency’s workforce has decreased, so has the IRS’s audit rate among taxpayers at all income levels. Government data shows the decrease is especially sharp for higher earners.

More than half of the $80 billion in supplemental funding in the Inflation Reduction Act would be earmarked for more tax-compliance enforcement. Officials, including Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig, a Trump pick to lead the agency in 2018, have pledged that the extra enforcement would not be directed at small businesses or households making less than $400,000.

“Contrary to the misinformation from opponents of this legislation, small business or households earning $400,000 per year or less will not see an increase in the chances that they are audited,” Yellen said.

Three-quarters of voters say they are not personally worried about being audited by a better-funded IRS, according to a Morning Consult/Politico poll Wednesday. More than half, 56%, said they were not worried about more audits generally.

The Inflation Reduction Act now awaits Biden’s signature, and the Democratic president has previously said would sign the bill. From that point, a fuller anticipation to lawmakers would be expected from the IRS later, tax experts said — and some worry there are still too few resources being devoted to helping regular taxpayers with questions.

The $80 billion — again, that’s spread over a decade — would be on top of annual budget appropriations for the agency. The debate over the funding is heated, with some observers saying the IRS needs every cent and others saying it needs no extra money.

For instance, Mark Everson, who served as IRS commissioner during the George W. Bush administration from 2003 to 2007, said the agency needs more money, but not at this magnitude. Extra, inflation-adjusted appropriations around 3% to 5% are a better bet for manageable growth, said Everson, vice chairman of alliantgroup, a specialty tax-services provider.

“The IRS needs to proceed extremely carefully as it ramps up,” he said, adding that “they’ve got to get the right people.” That holds true within the criminal division, he said.

The division itself is “a relatively small part of the agency, but it’s very important, both in terms of the role it plays for criminal tax problems and in support of other violations of law, including terrorism and corporate fraud.”

Criminal Investigation Division officials have to be involved in law-enforcement efforts because “financial information is frequently an important element of federal criminal investigations,” Everson said. “They play an essential role.”

The scandals and criminal cases surrounding WorldCom and Enron were two instances in which the division played an instrumental role, Everson said. More recently, the division was involved in the 2013 takedown of the Silk Road underground website on which sales of drugs and illegal services were powered by the emergence of bitcoin BTCUSD, 1.10% as a payment means.

During fiscal 2021, the IRS completed almost 2,800 criminal investigations, with most resulting in referrals to prosecution. That included more than 1,000 cases related to tax crimes, like evasion; 979 financial-crime cases including money laundering; and 735 drug-related financial crimes.

The long view shows the drain on the Criminal Investigation Division, as well. In the 2011 fiscal year, the division completed nearly 4,700 investigations, according to IRS data.

The CDC Admits It Gave False Information About COVID

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is admitting it gave false information about COVID-19 vaccine surveillance, including inaccurately saying it conducted a certain type of analysis over one year before it actually did.

The false information was conveyed in responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for the results of surveillance, and after the CDC claimed COVID-19 vaccines are being monitored “by the most intense safety monitoring efforts in U.S. history.”

“CDC has revisited several FOIA requests and as a result of its review CDC is issuing corrections for the following information,” a CDC spokeswoman told The Epoch Times in an email.

No CDC employees intentionally provided false information and none of the false responses were given to avoid FOIA reporting requirements, the spokeswoman said.

Heart Inflammation

The Epoch Times in July submitted a FOIA, or a request for non-public information, to the CDC for all reports from a team that was formed to study post-vaccination heart inflammation by analyzing reports submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), a system run by the CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The CDC not only said that the team did not conduct any abstractions or reports through October 2021, but that “an association between myocarditis and mRNA COVID-19 vaccination was not known at that time.”

That statement was false.

Clinical trials of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines detected neither myocarditis nor pericarditis, two types of heart inflammation. But by April 2021, the U.S. military was raising the alarm about post-vaccination heart inflammation, and by June 2021, the CDC was publicly acknowledging a link.

The CDC previously corrected the false statement but did not say whether its teams had ever analyzed VAERS reports.

“In reference to myocarditis abstraction from VAERS reports—this process began in May 2021 and continues to this date,” the CDC spokeswoman said in an email.

The CDC has still not released the results of analyses.

Data Mining

The CDC promised in January 2021 that it would perform a specific type of data mining analysis on VAERS reports called Proportional Reporting Ratio (PRR). But when Children’s Health Defense, a nonprofit, asked for the results, the CDC said that “no PRRs were conducted by the CDC” and that data mining “is outside of th[e] agency’s purview.”

Asked for clarification, Dr. John Su, who heads the CDC’s VAERS team, told The Epoch Times in an email that the CDC started performing PRRs in February 2021, “and continues to do so to date.”

The CDC is now saying that both the original response and Su’s statement were false.

The agency didn’t start performing PRRs until March 25, 2022, the CDC spokeswoman said. The agency stopped performing them on July 31, 2022.

The spokeswoman said it “misinterpreted” both Children’s Health Defense and The Epoch Times.

Children’s Health Defense had asked for the PRRs the CDC had performed from Feb. 1, 2021, through Sept. 30, 2021. The Epoch Times asked if the response to the request was correct.

The spokeswoman said the CDC thought “data mining” referred only to Empirical Bayesian (EB) data mining, a different type of analysis that the Food and Drug Administration has promised to perform on VAERS data.

“The notion that the CDC did not realize we were asking about PRRs but only data mining in general is simply not credible, since our FOIA request specifically mentioned PRRs and their response also mentioned that they did not do PRRs. They did not say ‘data mining in general,'” Josh Guetzkow, a senior lecturer at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem who has been working with Children’s Health Defense, told The Epoch Times via email.

“There is also no credible reason why they waited until March 31, 2022, to calculate PRRs, unless it was in response to our initial FOIA filed in December 2021, which was rejected on March 31, 2022—the same day they say they began their calculations. It means the CDC was not analyzing VAERS for early warning safety signals for well over a year after the vaccination campaign began—which still counts as a significant failure,” he added.

Music, Music, Music, let's get back to the freaking music! As a music focused blog I have been lagging lately. News has been too good! This is definitely one of Foster The People's better songs. Actually now that I think of it it's prolly their best song ever. "Pumped up kicks" that was ehhhh, and then the other ones just don't have that hook or that appealing sound that this one does. I found myself able to run to this sweet and tasty jam even though it doesn't feel fast paced or up beat. It is hard to put into words but this baby rocks. I tried creating a Spotify radio station based of this song and what an epic FAILLLLLL. Spotify kept bring up music that was just not in line with what I thought would be appropriate for this song. Overall I think this band is a great group of talented musicians and I would like to see them come out with some more bangers like "Houdini" from their album Torches.

As always the Golden Globes boar the shit out of me but there were some notable moments that created some good entertainment. First up on the list will be Quentin Tarantino accepting his award for Djengo Unchained. First, I have seen that movie and it is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Ever. If you can't appreciate that movie and you don't like it because you get sqweemish and scared you are just immature. The movie is adult and it is very well done. I hate violence as much as the next guy but in the right context, and if it helps maximize the impact of the story, then it's all good. Anyway...Questing Tarantino really took his liberties with this speech. It went on and on and on and on.

I didn't watch enough to see it but I guess Jodi Foster went silly bizerk with some coming out of the closet talk and how hard Hollywood is. I don't think anyone really understood what she was saying in her 20 minutes.

Seth MacFarlane got a little recognition for his real time tweeting of the event, capping on celebs like Tommy Lee Jones and Jodi Foster. I personally think that Seth MacFarlane is a tool. His face is annoying, his comedic style is worse, and his jokes are completely lame. How this guy got famous no one knows.

That's my days rant.

When I am in the gym I need music and lately I have decided to get in shape, like super good shape, which takes lot's of time a dedication, so I am doing a ton of music discovery while I work out. My favorite new method is using Spotify Radio because it simply presents so many more options than something like Pandora and all I have to do is star the song or click thumbs up and bam I instantly have it on my phone. Anyways, I was listening to Skid Row Radio the other day as I was in the mood for some classic rock to pump me up for the workout ahead. I usually listen to classic rock during my lifting phase and then I listen to Techno or Dance or House Music when I run. Makes sense right? Well the other day I was done lifting and I forgot to switch radio over to David Guetta Radio and what happened?? Well, I noticed earlier, Spotify had defined my taste a little and was throwing in some random songs into Skid Row Radio, one being Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch, which definitely isn't classic rock. (In 2004 at 2am I actually totaled a 1999 Range Rover while that song was blasting) So when I hoped on the elliptical, my favorite calorie burning exercise because it's easy on the knees, This song popped on the Radio, Guru Josh Project - Infinity 2008 (Official Video - Klaas Vocal Edit).

I haven't heard this song in forever, but it is like the best jam of all time and an instant classic that is a must for going out etc. I hadn't seen the Music Video until know and I love it. The girl in the music video is just my type and she begins to strip half way through the video, what more can you ask for? Anyway, if you like dance music or house or techno you definitely have to check out this song and music video. Hella good music!!

Dozens Killed in Connecticut School Shooting - WTF

How many more of these terrorist attacks do we have to go through. First of all it's the Holiday season, what's wrong with people. The details are that a man opened fire on a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school, Sandy Hook Elementary School and ended up killing dozens. Who goes after an elementary school? Of course the murderer was found among the dead, another case when wimp kills himself too. I have said before and I will say it again. If you want to kill yourself, why take others with you, it's just not fair.

What's even more disturbing to me personally is that I grew up in Connecticut and I'm sure I will know someone involved in this terrifying event. I actually grew up fishing right down the street from this elementary school in Sandy Hook. I wish all the best to the residents and the people who have felt the fury of this awful man. Bad music on a Friday morning.

Last night America voted on X Factor USA and they voted strangely in my opinion. As far as music goes, I'm just surprised with the results. That damn Tate Stevens! Are there really that many country fans out there. Well, I for one know from experience that for some reason girls eat up that country music like it's cake or cookies. I think it has to do with all the sobby lyrics and the heartfelt performances. (Rascal Flatts, now they get them girls crappie in they britches) I couldn't hate anything more that that Country music crap. I believe that Carly Rose Soneclar rightfully made it. She has a great voice, she sang great songs with great music, there is no denying that at all, but.....WTF. Emblem 3 are way better singers and musicians and over all much more talented than Fifth Harmony. Emblem 3 is a boy band who all the girls cry over and fantasize about and what is Fifth Harmony, another group of homely looking girls who call themselves a girl band, who cares about girl bands? I know for one that guys don't go to girl band concerts and scream and yell and cry and buy tons of albums and tee shirts and binders and backpacks etc etc. I just know in my gut that Emblem 3 would sell out more arenas, sell more merch and over all be a more popular band. Also they have that cali skater vide to them so they may even get some dudes on their side too! Guaranteed Emblem 3 will sell more records and be more success full. I never thought they were anything special, like LA Reid always said, "they have no harmony" and they suck. Paul McCartney subs for Kurt Cobain as Nirvana reunites to play for Sandy Benefit

Are you fucking serious? First of all I know Paul McCartney is a great guy and all and is super into rock and roll and was the head Beatle in his hay day, or atleast her was the heart throb but... doesn't it seem a little strange that he of all people would take Kurt Cobains place????? I feel like Kurt would be a little disappointed. Kurt was so raw and grungy and cool and dark and having Paul McCartney in his place seems like having Elmo take his place. I don't think Kurt would be to happy about that, it's almost a joke.

Well guess what it was apparently Nirvana's Dave Grohl (drummer that joined in 1990 and now plays in the popular band The Foo Fighters) who invited McCartney to play today's special 12-12-12 Sandy Benefit. McCartney was even quoted as saying "I didn't even really know who they were" what a fuck head and he continued to say "and you haven't played for that long?"

It seems the old timer really lost touch with any music since he has been out of the old Beatles, or maybe he was spending to much time fighting copy rights and staying off of lime wire and any other cool site you could be on.

The Rolling Stones, The Who, Alicia Keys, Eric Clapton, Kanye West, Roger Waters, Jon Bon Jovi and Billy Joel will all be making appearances at the Sandy 12-12-12 event.

Old man Pope Benedict XVI sent out his first out his first tweet today December 12th 2012! Mark this date in history on your calenders folks! What was his first tweet? We have a screen grab right here for you on the left. That's good music!

The Pope himself will not actually be typing in the tweets but the Vatican says that the tweets are composed in his very own words. I wonder what social media agency the Pope is using? He probably hired an intern, like everyone else, haha. No, wait, even better, someone at the Vatican now has to take care of social media as well as their other duties. And this is no small feat, the Pope has eight different account in different accounts in different languages. I gotta find out who is handling this for him and if they are getting paid.

The Vatican has now opened up the flood gate to criticism, disrespect and hilarity as the tweets sent out by the pope often receive many mixed responses along with re tweets. The Pope is turing out to be a real conversation starter. See this awesome ass picture that I found on Instagram? Guess what, I can't see it on my Twitter account anymore. It's funny because I was checking out my profile earlier today and I noticed non of my media showed up. Most, if not, all of my media is Instagram. I mean I don't take picture with a kick ass Twitter app do I? No I do not! I use Instagram like everyone else in the world and now that they are not integrated that kinda sucks doggie balls. - The students were said to be selling illegal narcotics including Marijuana, Cocaine, Meth, Ecstasy, Heroin, LSD and illegal prescription drugs. Fuck, too bad I didn't know these guys. LSD? Really? Didn't that run out in the 70's, I'm not sure I would trust if it was actually real and good LSD. Who even does LSD anymore? Is there really that much of a demand? I think ravers and such prolly love the stuff, I know I would love to be on LSD at a rave. Well, I will tell you what. I wish I had some LSD right now, I love that stuff. Possibly the best drug I have ever consumed next to Ecstasy and Marijuana. LSD makes everything especially with music sooo freaking cool it's unbelievable. I will give you one quick account of an LSD trip I had.

(Midway through my trip I was in a doormroon in Burlington, Vermont. It was freezing cold outside so the heater was on full blast. The old buildings pipes made noise as they heated up, kinda a bubbling sound. As my friend was passing me a joint I looked up at a poster of Bob Marley on the wall. This one to the left.
The noise of the heater turned into a crazy friendly laugh getting more and more intense, as the Bob Marley poster turned to me and laughed, and laughed and kept laughing, I could not help but to laugh back. I litterly felt like Bob and I were sitting next to each other just laughing at life and sharing joint. It was one of the most soothing experiences to happen to me during my trip. If you are scared on LSD look at Bob Marley and you will instantly feel better, swear to god! Just a little anecdote for you. )

Back to the article. Actually, there is one drug that apparently is like the craziest thing ever is uhhh let me think of it... mmmm ohg yea DMT. Well kids, the moral of the story, believe it or not is that drugs are bad! Although I have taken most drugs and I speak like they very fun and cool, they are really not. All those drugs fuck up your brain and make you stupid and you will be much more happy and successful without them. I find sobriety to be the most fun drug and I'm serious, I'm only 26 and I have more fun being sober in almost any situation, even when it comes to painting, creating music, and being at a party. A little tip for the bro's ready, you get way more ass when your sober than you do when your drunk. You also get way hotter girls and way more of them and you spend less money and you end up making more money and being more successful. Don't let the those "Good Times" fool you. It's fun to get drunk and screw a hot random bar slew but it's more fun to make millions of dollars and screw the hottest girls ever and play golf and live in a machine. Apple redraws maps after Australian drivers led astray in the bush! I mean come on, really? I know for one that Apple Maps suck. I have used Apple Maps many times on my iPhone and it seriously can f*%k you. I had "arrived" at my destination only to find the store I was looking for no where in sight. I went into a double decker Staples building to ask them if they knew when the computer repair shop was because my iPhone said that it was here at this exact location. Right as I was walking up to the register I looked out the window and saw the little computer shop I was looking for across the street and up the road about a quarter mile. I had never been so mislead by Apple Maps in my life. To make things even better there was a median in the road the prevented me from an easy trip. Thanks a lot iPhone. When she first started hosting it was almost un bearable to watch. I kept sitting there cringing as she was obviously nervous and asking weird questions that were just off. Her co-host Mario Lopez looks like the worlds best TV host ever next to her and you can see in his body language and his smile that he himself wonders what the hell is she talking about, doing, or saying. In this clip above you can see that Khloe try's to show off that she is comfortable on stage but at the same time just makes everyone else so weirded out, what the hell is she doing. Notice Mario in the right corner with a look of astonishment and embarrassment as Khloe continues to break Simon Cowells lap.
