Photography is so much more than just an occupation for me. It’s a challenge of observation. Photography pushes me to think beyond the norm to best document what happens around me. Each day billions of stories happen simultaneously, significant and seemingly insignificant moments. Photography is a tool, not necessarily required, but one mean of preserving and sharing these moments.

One of the greatest honours is to be trusted in documenting a couple or a family’s story. More images of the first moments of Isabelle Faith’s life can be seen on my personal blog.

Two people deeply in love. I love how they laugh with each other. I love how they were willing to try anything. I loved spending the time just walking the beach with them. Danielle and Grant – you are an absolute delight to be around.

Wendi and Sam | Couple Session

So what feels like a ridiculously long time ago I showed you this image of Wendi and Sam. Wendi had contacted me after seeing Joy and Josh’s engagement session and as a budding photographer (slash now I see far being budding and more like producing über strong work) we met just to discuss photography and life. That turned into a miniature 20 minute couples session.

Danielle and Grant | Just One

I’m back after visiting six countries and summer. Yes, I visited summer and it was absolutely lovely.

Today I had the delight of meeting with Danielle and Grant for the first part of their engagement session. It was so frigid today in Calgary with flurries that developed to drifting snow, which then became blowing snow (yes these are technical terms in Canada) right when we started their shoot. Needless to say the primary concept of this session was to ‘cuddle’ and ‘keep each other warm’. Thankfully they are perfectly capable of both of these and look so sweet doing so even if it was -20C/-5F with windchill. Just one for now.

Happy couples make me happy.

Travels

I am absolutely thrilled to share that until February 24th I am going to be in Central and South America photographing an organization’s projects and seeing parts of Argentina and Chile. Documenting people and culture is something I am deeply passionate about since having the opportunity to photograph the Mam people in the western highlands of Guatemala in May of 2010 (images here). I can hardly describe how thankful and excited I am to have these upcoming experiences and to share them here.

Kelly and Adam | Canmore Wedding

A wedding nestled in the Rocky Mountains with a bride and groom that deeply adore each other and their closest family and friends can hardly be more enjoyable. From meeting Kelly and Adam last year to photographing their engagement session and witnessing and documenting their wedding day, I can honestly say I am so fortunate to have this job. I hesitate to call it a job because it is so much more. From the cocoa served at their outdoor ceremony, the knitted flags by mothers and grandparents, the inclusion of photographs from marriages before, it was all about Kelly and Adam.
