&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Durham, NC – April 11, 2012 &lt;/strong&gt;– In 2010, Forrester Research and MarketingSherpa reported shopping cart abandonment rates at 55% and 52% respectively.&amp;nbsp; This translates to significant revenue losses for retailers.&amp;nbsp; Marketing platform provider Bronto Software (&lt;a href="http://www.bronto.com/"&gt;www.bronto.com&lt;/a&gt;) has released a report that attempts to answer the question, “Why are carts so frequently abandoned and what can retailers do to reclaim potentially lost revenue?”&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In a recent “Online Shopper Experience Study” conducted by Bronto Software, the carting and purchasing processes of 100 online retail brands and their abandoned cart marketing strategies were evaluated. The study analyzes every fork in the road of the shopping cart and checkout experience to determine abandonment causes and offers post-abandonment tactical recommendations to help retailers increase conversions. &amp;nbsp;Bronto has combined the study results and recommendations into a white paper entitled, “From Abandon to Conversion: Why Shoppers Abandon Carts and What Merchants Can Do About It.” The free white paper is available for download at &lt;a href="abandon" target="_blank"&gt;bronto.com/abandon&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The study points to user experience, indecision, technical issues, and product cost/additional fees as the top reasons buyers abandon online purchases.&amp;nbsp; The following are highlights of the study findings:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;li&gt;An average of 5.6 pages from cart to order confirmation&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;64% of brands display shipping costs or estimates directly in the cart&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;35% of brands don't display security certificates during the checkout process, leaving customers feeling unprotected&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Post-abandonment message highlights:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Only 13% of brands sent at least one post-abandonment email message and only 23% of these promoted a sense of urgency, which can be an effective way to encourage the customer to return&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Only 5% of brands sent a second message&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;“The level of missed revenue for retailers is astounding when you consider that over fifty percent of online transactions end in an abandoned shopping cart,” said Jim Davidson, Bronto’s Manager of Marketing Research. “The good news is that much of this revenue can be recovered. Our report outlines strategies and tactics that merchants can employ to convert a greater share of abandoned carts to sales without a major effort.”&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
