A trains should be running normally in both directions, and Brooklyn bound F trains will be re-routed to the C line between West 4th Street-Washington Square and Euclid Avenue. This means that at High Street the only Manhattan bound service will be by the A train, while there will be Brooklyn bound service by A and F trains. At York Street in DUMBO there will only be Manhattan bound F train service. Late nights all weekend – Friday to Saturday through Sunday to Monday – 4 trains will terminate and originate at Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and so will not be serving Brooklyn, but 3 trains, which do not normally serve Brooklyn on weekends, will serve all 4 train stops from Borough Hall to New Lots Avenue. Those traveling to or from the East Side of Manhattan can transfer between the N or R, both of which should be running normally, and the 4, 5, or 6 at 14th Street-Union Square. On Sunday morning from 7:45 to 10:00 2 trains will be running on a reduced schedule – approximately every 15 minutes.

The following work week – Monday morning, April 13 through Friday evening, April 17 – late nights and early mornings Monday to Tuesday through Thursday to Friday there will be no Manhattan bound service at High Street, as Manhattan bound A trains will be re-routed to the F line between Jay Street-MetroTech and West 4th Street-Washington Square. Meanwhile, Brooklyn bound F trains will be re-routed to the A line between west 4th Street-Washington Square and Jay Street-MetroTech. This means no Manhattan bound service at High Street and no Brooklyn bound service at York Street in DUMBO during these late night hours, but extra Manhattan bound service at York Street and extra Brooklyn bound service at High Street. These same late nights-early mornings 4 trains will terminate and originate at Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and so will not be serving Brooklyn, but 3 trains, which do not normally serve Brooklyn late at night will serve all 4 train stops from Borough Hall to New Lots Avenue.

These are the PLANNED changes affecting local service for this weekend and for the following week. Families with children in both age ranges may choose which playground to visit (a word to the wise: Pierrepont has bathrooms; Harry Chapin does not, though there are bathrooms a short walk down Columbia Heights in Squibb Park). Although the egg supply will be generous, children are asked to take home no more than two each. Egg Hunt sponsor City Point will provide a surprise guest.

There will be a bake sale hosted by BHA at both playground locations. As reported by Mary Frost in the Eagle, an estimated 500 teenagers, inspired by social media, gathered on Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 2. The Eagle story quotes the Park’s President, Eric Landau, who said the park “monitors all social media channels to see what people are saying about the park generally.” When word came on Friday, March 6 of a gathering to take place at 3:30 PM on Monday, Landau said,

BBP staff reached out to the organizer to inform them that large groups needed a permit, and asked them to contact the park in advance. The person that we sent that comment to, the organizer, as I understand it, mockingly shared our post on social media and then blocked us from sending him any further messages.”

BBP then notified the 84th Precinct, and Captain Erek Powers arranged to have a police detail in place on the pier an hour before the announced gathering time. Things stayed calm until about 5:30, when fights broke out. Some police officers were attacked. The police called for reinforcements, then cleared the pier, which was cleared by 7:00 PM. There were no serious injuries and no property was damaged.

Unfortunately, as the Eagle story notes, social media inspired gatherings like this have happened frequently; the story provides at its conclusion a list of previous incidents. More can be expected, especially at school spring break time, which this year comes from April 2 – 10.

Subway Service Alerts: Brooklyn Heights and Nearby

Claude Scales

Subway Service Alerts

Transportation

Subway Service Alerts 3/20/2026

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, this weekend (late this evening, Friday, March 20 through early Monday morning, March 23) should be a “green light weekend,” as there are no planned cancellations, route changes, or station skips directly affecting service at any local stations. As Mr. Lechtzin noted in his remarks, this was the Association’s 116th annual meeting. The BHA is, he said, the oldest neighborhood civic association in the U.S., having been established in 1910. The meeting was held at the First Unitarian Congregational Society.

As reported by Mary Frost in the Eagle, the meeting featured several awards for community service and covered many issues of concern to Brooklyn Heights residents, including: the BQE; the future of the Bossert; the prevalence of sidewalk bridges and scaffolding; school crowding because of efforts to reduce the number of students per classroom and increased population because of the pending conversion of former Jehovah’s Witnesses buildings on lower Columbia Heights from commercial to residential; and the threat of increases in property taxes. Councilmember Restler noted that property taxes are governed by state law, and that the last time Albany dealt with this issue it took ten years to amend the statute. Mr. Lechtzin said there had been concerns about parking and truck loading and unloading following “the recent Montague Street redesign, which included curb extensions, new street furniture and planters.” He said there is as much truck loading and unloading space on Montague as there was before the redesign was implemented. However, I have noticed that large tractor-trailer rigs making deliveries to Key Food Montague turn and park on Hicks Street, and often leave their trailers blocking the pedestrian crosswalk.

One piece of very good news is that a home has been found for the Community Fridge. It is now in front of the Zion German Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 125 Henry Street, across the street from its former location.

Some coming BHA sponsored events were announced. Spring Into Service, a day of volunteer work on community projects, will be on Saturday, April 25. To participate, email lsullivan@thebha.org The annual egg hunt at the Harry Chapin and Pierrepont playgrounds will be on Saturday, March 18, starting at 10:30 AM. For details about other future events, see the BHA website events page.

A highlight of the evening was a speech by U.S. Representative Nydia Velazquez (photo below, C. Scales for BHB) who represented Brooklyn Heights from 1997, when it was added to her district, until 2022, when her district lines were changed again. After 33 years of service in the House of Representatives she decided not to run for re-election “to make room for the next generation.” She praised Brooklyn Heights, and the BHA in particular, saying the neighborhood “shaped much of my work.”

Whether we were fighting to protect the Promenade, investing in the waterfront, establishing the Greenway, pushing back on Washington D.C. or making sure businesses on Montague Street had a fighting chance — the people of Brooklyn Heights were always in the room. You picked up the phone, you wrote the letters, you packed the town halls.

<img class=" wp-image-102800 aligncenter" src="http://brooklynheightsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/Rep.-Nydia-Velazquez-420x315.jpeg" alt="Rep. This means extra Brooklyn bound service at York Street in DUMBO.

The following work week – Monday morning, March 2 through Friday evening, March 6 – late nights Monday to Tuesday through Thursday to Friday the Brooklyn bound A train re-routing to the F line will continue, and since there is no late night C train service, there will be no Brooklyn bound late night service at High Street, and extra Brooklyn bound service at York Street. The same late nights 4 train service will be suspended in both directions between Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and New Lots Avenue, so there will be no service at the 4/5 platforms at Borough Hall, but 2 and 3 trains should be running normally, and those traveling to or from the East Side of Manhattan can transfer between the 4 or 5 and the 2 or 3 at Borough Hall in Manhattan.

These are the PLANNED changes affecting local service for this weekend and for the following week. Always check MTA Info for unplanned service changes that may affect local service or service on other parts of your trip, or for planned service changes that affect stations to or from which you may be traveling.
