how to start up w national grid, con ed, time warner? [Park Slope | DailySlope.com]

i feel dumb asking this question but i just moved within the slope and am having amnesia or something. my new place has electricity and gas for now, but i know the minutes are ticking away and eventually they'll get cut off. can anyone remind me of how to change the con ed and national grid billing to my address before this happens?

separately, time warner of course wants me to go for their 3 in one deal involving phone, cable and internet, i don't know that i need a phone. supposing i want cable internet and DVR and regular cable (not HBO and such, just TNT and normal cable channels), does anyone have any thoughts about what the best deal is? i know they're going to try to sell me a bill of goods.

PM's are good on this one if you want. or answer publicly. as you prefer.

thanks!

I just ran down Franklin and it was packed with fire engines and ladder trucks. The whole third (top floor) of 787 Franklin (between Lincoln and St. John's) was gutted, but the firefighters I talked to said everyone made it out unharmed. I feel terrible for whoever lost their place.
Evolutionary Martial Arts, inc. and Brooklyn Sanctuary are honored to present an event designed for you to:

I know this is a stretch, but was hoping someone might remember and know something.

Over 10 years ago, there was a furniture repair guy who had a storefront on the corner of 2nd Street and 5th Avenue, I brought some pieces to him and he had done a great job. he closed up and I was wondering if anyone remembered his name and if he might have a shop somewhere else now. He was a really nice guy and his wife used to work in the store with him, thanks.

My refrigerator/freezer broke yesterday (it is a single unit). It looks like the motor broke again. This happened a few years ago and it took my landlord a full week to fix it. I had no refrigeration for that week. Now it is broken again. Does anyone know how long a landlord has to replace it?

I went to pick up my niece and on the way back decided to take Myrtle Ave which I rarely do. I noticed several people going into what looked like a bar and actually was a bar and restaurant called Sans Souci. We both went to check it out and lo and behold a new Caribbean restaurant has opened at 330 Myrtle Ave. The decor is beautiful with several flat screen tvs and great music as well. I love the ambience. Has anyone eaten there? How is the food? This is a nice sitdown restaurant . Will have to give it a try.

Last year, our NYC Council representatives cut the collection and compost of residential leaves out of the city’s budget.

So a group of community gardeners, neighborhood associations, and concerned residents united to harvest and compost fallen leaves, and to document our efforts. We want to keep the compostables out of landfills and persuade the City Council and the Mayor to reinstate the Department of Sanitation’s compost project.

NYCLeaves.org
RECYCLE YOUR FALL LEAVES WITH US

Leaves collected at your curbside will be treated as regular household trash. Don’t waste this precious resource. Keep leaves out of our landfills and create beautiful compost!

The below community gardens will accept leaves on Nov. 14-15 and 21-22, from 11am-1pm. A more complete list of participating sites can be found on NYCLeaves.org.
Please use clear plastic or brown paper bags.
No branches, twigs or trash, please.
Not all gardens are participating each day, so please check the calendar at nycleaves.org to verify garden participation.

A friend of mine got run over by a SUV while riding his bike just over one month ago and needs a place to live ASAP as he is being discharged from the hospital. Ground floor preferred but he is able to walk up a maximum of 12 stairs. He is on the mend with a broken femur and leg so the easier it is to get into the apartment, the better.

One bedroom or studio. Up to $1200 a month, possibly more depending on the space and location.

Red Hook is absolutely preferred but due to the time sensitive nature of his needs, adjacent neighborhoods will be considered.

Please call Robbie Giordano directly at 718-630-8030. He is an amazing person and I have been asking everyone I can think of. Maybe you could, too?

Thank you!

I was in Park Slope for a week and in that time my credit card number was stolen.
Someone in Oregon charged a Macbook to my card in the local Apple store in Portland. I used my card in the following locations Fonda, Home Depot, Baked, Joy Indian Restaurant, Key Food on 5th Ave., Steve's C Town, Astor Wine in Manhattan. Did anyone else who used any of these stores or restaurants have the same problem?

Although I've been a number of times I don't think I've ever gone at what would be considered a "peak" time.

So, what are the odds of 4-6 people getting a table at 8pm on friday night?
How long of a wait should we expect.

Grazie

Crockpot Ideas [Brooklyn Eats]

I have a new baby crockpot (1.5qt) and made my first recipe overnight:

2 apples, sliced
1 tsp (5 mL) cinnamon
1/3 cup (75 mL) brown sugar
2 cups (500 mL) old-fashioned rolled oats
4 cups (1 L) water
pinch salt

Mix together the apples, cinnamon and brown sugar in the bottom of the crockpot. Sprinkle the oats over the apples, then pour in the water and salt. Don't stir - just leave it alone. Cook on low setting for 8 or 9 hours. Serve sprinkled with additional brown sugar, if you want, and some milk or cream.

(I cut everything but the apples in half)

Now I've got a new thing cooking:

Onions
Red potatoes
cubed ham
one can of cheddar cheese soup

We'll see what happens.

Anybody have any good recipes? (the simpler, the better)

I saw a flier on the door of Brooklyn Bicycles (6th ave and 9th) about a weekly group bike ride on Wed. evenings that leaves from the store (I assume they bike around the park),

Has anyone been on any of these rides who cares to comment on them? I'm curious to try it out.

We are also continuing with our terrific music series -- this week come hear singer / songwriter / guitarist Karen Davis and her friend Joe Coleman. They will be playing between 1 to 4:30 PM. For a preview, check out www.myspace.com/boomslang . We are truly creating 'park' in the parking lot, and building community and business opportunity!

Found cat 11/10 night. Acting like he's been lost for about a week. Hungry, tired and extremely friendly. I couldn't leave him on the street, but I am not sure I can keep him and would like to find his owner.

Found on Devoe St between Judge and Olive.

I am guessing he's a Tabby? but I don't know cats very well. Yellow eyes. This cat is ridiculously loving and friendly. Loves to be held, snuggle, etc. It seems like it had a good home and I am very hopeful he is just lost.

Who has it?

I'm tired of paying for insurance + gas + maintenance on my 16 year old Honda Accord. I live in Crown Heights near Nostrand. Anyone in that area use it? What are people's general impressions with it?
