A Call to All Pamilyang OFW - Help Save the Family

Perhaps by now you have already known that I am a member of the Pamilyang OFW – a coined term in the Philippines for a family whose one of the member of the household is working abroad. I have also the reiterated the importance of communication in my previous posts.

My husband told me that being far from his family, he always feels sad every time there is an important occasion in our lives. The distance and homesickness usually hit him hard. As a loving wife, I always make sure that during occasions like Christmas, Birthdays, Anniversaries and the likes, I always make myself and my kids available for him to chat. Thanks to the wonder of technology.

Apart from our chat, my husband also told me that he gets so excited opening his email to check on my message for him. My kids and I would usually send him greeting cards online. He told us that it definitely make him smile and ease his loneliness.

I would like to reiterate to the family of an OFW, that there is no reason for us not to make our loved-ones abroad feel that they are loved. We have every available resources in our hands. Imagine how hard it is before during the 70s and 80s where they have to tape their voice in a cassette tape and send it via package, having a risk that it might get lost during transient time.

Let us make an effort to communicate with our loved-ones abroad, make them feel loved. A simple greeting cards if you cannot send it to them thru snail mail can now be done online. Our telecommunication company here in the Philippines has also exhausted all their resources to provide low cost texting thru their roaming services.

Calling all Pamilyang OFW - Let us do our part, let us help maintain the love and communication. There has been many families separated because of the distance, let us keep our family intact. Remember that, the very reason why we have come to the decision that one of us has to work abroad is because of OUR FAMILY.

At around 5AM today I received a text from my ate, according to her she heard from DZMM that DECS has suspended classes in Elementary and High-School and other selective colleges who have also declared. This was due to tropical storm Isang.

As usual, nainggit na naman si Brown Pinay, it is so hard to rise and shine specially when your kids are are fast asleep. But as ever, since isa akong mangagawang Pinoy, no matter if it is raining cats and dogs, I have to go to work. So reluctant and half heartedly as I am, I prepared for work.

As soon as I get out of the house, my ordeal started, bumuhos ang ulan at ang lakas ng hangin....tumaob ang payong ko at ang baha ay hanggang bukong bukong ko. But what else is new sa Monumento area. It is a good thing that I am in slippers, mahirap na ang mahal ata ng shoes ngayon noh. But ganun pa man....basa pa din ako.

Basa na late pa...hayyyyyyyyyyyyyy buhay. This is the life of an employee, not that I am complaining...naiingit lang sa mga walang pasok... hehheheh.

To add more on my inggit, Malacañang has already announced suspension of work in all government offices in the National Capital Region (or Metro Manila). (Inquirer).

I am still waiting for the suspension of work from our office, perhaps mga 4:45PM kasi labasan namin is 5PM hehheheh.

My Curiosity with Mesothelioma

I was doing a little SEO research and I was surprise that one of the most high paying word is mesothelioma.

Naturally, it took my interest and curiosity. From the looks of it, it is a medical term, and I was correct.

"Mesothelioma is an uncommon form of cancer, usually associated with previous exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant (cancerous) cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart)."

I am still wondering why the interest for such word and why was it considered to be one of the highest paying word.

Celebrating with My Kiddos

What better way to celebrate a very special day in my life, then being with my kids. I filed a VL just to be with them. Although Papa is not around, I feel that we need to continue celebrating every momentous moment in our life.

We went to SM North and have our dinner at Kenny Rogers. It was a real coincidence, because when the cashier gave us a number for our order, it was a NUMBER 37. Was it by fate or purely coincidental.

After the dinner, we watched the last full show of Transformer. It was really an action-packed movie which we really enjoy from the start to the end. My little Bumble Bee Icko was full of energy as he was recounting the movie to his Papa.

Simple joys like this does not cease to give me enough happiness and inspiration.

Feeling the Age Bite

When you are starting age, only then will you remember the caring remarks of your old ones not to take a bath when it is already late or if you are dead tired. Now that I am in my late 30s I am not ashamed to admit that age is already catching up with me. There are times that my memory loss is really deteriorating, I just do not know if this is because of my two Caesarian operation, but I am really saddened with this. I am just very thankful that my high blood pressure is not bothering me anymore.

I am also very keen on the food that I eat, although I am still very lazy to have a regular exercise schedule. I am contemplating on taking supplements like Colonix. But I still have to hear feedbacks from friends who is taking it.

It was earlier declared by Malacanang, that July 27, 2009 - Iglesia ni Cristo Day is a Non-Working Holiday (Read more at Inquirer.Net).

However, the Palace clarified that President Gloria Arroyo declared July 27, 2009as “Iglesia ni Cristo Day,” a SPECIAL NATIONAL WORKING HOLIDAY commemorating the founding anniversary of the sect. (Read more at about it at Inquirer.Net)

Geez, it surely spoil my plans..when it was announced early on I already planned my bonding moments with my kids.

Birthday KO Ngayon

Yup, yup Birthday ko ngayon and I have every reason to be thankful and happy. 37 years old na ako, parang kailan lang pero ang state of mind ko naiwan na sa 25 hehehhe. It is not that I refuse to grow old, it is just that I want to be always young at heart.

Andaming answered prayers, salamat na marami kay Bro. Alam mo na yun Bro kung ano ang mga yun. Sana tuloy tuloy ang aking lucky and happy streak.

At 37, I can say that I am complete. My husband and two bundle of joy (Ishi and Icko) makes me complete. Parang sila ang centrum ng buhay ko heheheh.

My memory is already lagging at times (early signs of aging huh due to my 2 CS operation perhaps) but nonetheless kalabaw lang ang tumatanda and since Dyosa ako wala kong problema dyan hehehhe.

Katagal kong di nagblog ng ganito...yung tipo bang kahit na puro hehhehe lang ang isulat ko solve na. At dahil birthday ko ngayon, minarapat kong magsulat ng kahit ano lang...basta kahit na anong pumasok sa isip ko.

Bago ako umupo at tumeklado sa keyboard blanko ang isipin ko. Birthday ko ngayon, eh ano ngayon. Pero nung tumitipa na ako, isa lang ang nasa focus ko...Birthday ko ngayon at gusto ko happy ito.

Madaming babati, salamat sa inyo...sa magreregalo aba mas salamat sa iyo. Sa makaka alala at magbebelated masaya ako na naalala nyo ako.

Birthday KO ngayon, 37 na ako, 36 ako kahapon at 38 ako next year. Hay buhay parang life. Basta ang importante mahalaga. Makulit ba??? Hayaan mo na birthday ko naman ngayon.

MANILA, Philippines — July 2 is a special non-working holiday for Pasig residents as the city celebrates its 436th foundation day, officials announced Wednesday.

Mayor Robert “Bobby” Eusebio said the date has been declared a special city-wide holiday under Presidential Proclamation No. 1805 to give way to the 436th Araw ng Pasig (Pasig Day).

One of the famous music artist if not the best of all times has just passed away. Michael Jackson has been popular in my household, that even my kids grew up with his music. Why? It is because Wacko Jacko is the favorite of my husband.

Although he has his share of his controversies in life, one thing remain constant...his contribution in the world's music industry is a feat that is hard to surpass. His music will surely continue to linger even after his death.

Some of my personal favorite among his songs are Ben and Gone to Soon.

Michael Jackson may you have a wonderful journey back to Our Father.

Classes Suspended at my Daughter's School Due to Confirmed Case of A(H1N1)

Just the other night my brother texted me to inform that classes has been suspended in Manila Central University (Caloocan City), where my Ishi and my other pamangkins are studying.

It was reported by Ces Drilon at Bandila (ABS-CBN's news program) last night that classes are suspended starting today, June 23 at the Manila Central University (MCU) in Caloocan City after some University employees tested positive for H1N1. Classes will resume on June 29 (Monday). Updated count says that there are already 8 confirmed A(H1N1) victims in MCU.

Naturally, everything that has been happening is really alarming and frightening. The more worried I am now that the school of my daughter has been affected.

I enjoined each and everyone in praying that everything will be fine. and for all of us to get hope, courage through this difficult times. May Father God intercede and put an end in all these pandemic.

In times like having a medical / health plan will surely help, I am very glad that my company has one of the best medical coverage extending to our family. Perhaps its about time to consider getting a health plan for you and your family if your company does not have one for you. But always be cautious. Remember that at times cheap insurance does not deliver what you expect them of and sometimes you will encounter problems in reimbursing your bills.

My Love Story with Goldilocks

My love story with Goldilocks started even when I was a kid. During those times, life for our family was really so hard that my parents being both government employees will only buy us what is essential and necessary. I will often treasure every birthday celebration in our family, since no matter how hard up we are during those times, my mama and dad will really find a way

I can vividly remember a time when I was still in Grade 5, my Mama bought a chocolate cake from Goldilocks; I was teary eyed as I was blowing my cake because I know that we have a little money during those times. Before my birthday I over-heard my parents talking about how they can pay our Meralco bills. That’s what makes my cake and birthday even more special. I know that they did everything they could just to give me a cake. Just the thought that they really exerted and exhausted all their efforts just to give me this special present makes me happy. I would always treasure those times.

No celebration in my life will pass without a cake from Goldilocks. It is as if every event in my life were witnessed by Goldie. It is the easiest gift that I can think of whenever there is a potluck or I need to show a little gesture of my thoughtfulness. I just can't help to remember their old tag line: "How thoughtful. How Goldilocks."

Now that I am a Mom, Goldilocks has been a household name in my humble abode. Even without celebration in my life, I would always buy healthy pambaon for my kids which they really love. They surely love the meat-filled breads and those malinamnam na mamon.

During all my growing up years it has been inculcated in my mind that when I think of cakes and pastries, I would only think of Goldilocks. It is like as if cakes, celebrations and Goldilocks are synonymous to one another.

Life since I was a kid has not changed a bit except that now, there is no need for an occasion to buy a cake from Goldilocks.

Yan ang Filipina : Pussycat Dolls' Nicole Scherzinger

Yesterday I was able to catch the entertainment news and I feel so happy that Nicole Scherzinger together with her all girl group Pussycat Dolls are here in the Philippines for a concert.

Nicole is half-Filipina (her father with surname Valiente hails from Batanes). In her interview, she feels elated to be back in the country and says that she is proud to be a Filipino.

During one of her commercial shoot with Bench she says that she is in real life:

“Like the Filipinos who are often respectful and sometimes meek, but can be assertive, confident and brave, too. Qualities that I like, qualities that I got from my dad,” she beams."

The half-Filipino lead vocalist for the American pop group Pussycat Dolls says she wants to sing the Philippine national anthem when boxing champion Manny Pacquiao fights again.

Brown Pinay ala Jose Rizal

Last weekend I really have a good laugh at myself. I accompanied my daughter Ishi to the parlor to get her hair cut since school is already fast approaching. But when get out of the parlor, there was a heavy downpour of rain. We waited for the rain to subside but to no avail. Since it was already getting late we decided to board the first jeep that comes our path bound to our home. But as ever, there was a knee deep flood in the area where we will go down.

Being the ever protective Mama to my Ishi, I get out of the jeep first. But for heaven’s sake because of the strong flood current, one of my slippers was swiped out by the current, leaving me barefooted hehehhe. Ishi and I were laughing so hard because I was barefoot on my other foot. So with my quick wits, I decided to do a heroic act just like Jose Rizal (remember the anecdote where the young Rizal throwing the other half of his slipper in the river when the other half accidentally fell off the boat - his reason being one slipper will be of no use to him and the one who would find the other slipper. So by throwing both, at least the finder can have a pair of slippers for use.). So just like our national hero, I decided to let go of my other pair of slipper and went home barefooted hehhehe. Imagine walking barefooted from EDSA to our home hehhehe. Ishi and I were both soaking wet laughing that my tummy really ached. Dinaig ko pa ang nag-treadmills sa sakit ng tyan ko kakatawa.

But it was a good bonding moment for me and Ishi....No matter how embarrassing it might be, it just doesn’t matter at all.

My husband just boarded the taxi going to the airport to be back to his land of work - Saudi Arabia. My kids and I are now back to our normal life in an abnormal setting.

Goodbyes no matter how frequent can never be sweet. My husband has been an OFW for 5 years now, in that 5 years of our life, I only accompanied Allan to the airport only once (that was the first time he left the country). I would always fetch him from the airport but I decided that it will better if we will say our goodbyes at home. Parang may nakabarang buto ng santol sa lalamunan when it is parting time. I need to put a brave front for the sake of the kids, but inside parang sasabog ka sa lungkot...ang hirap...

But I wont complain, ayaw kong masanay at maging manhid everytime na aalis sya. I do not like to get used to the feeling at maging parang wala na lang ito sa amin. Everytime my husband leaves for Saudi, it just makes my kids aware that they need to study hard and be good even more because of all the sacrifices of their Papa. My kids and I also have our own share of our sacrifices, but I know that this is just temporary. We have set our goals, we have given our limits and next year my mahal will be with us together.

All the Pamilyang OFW like us will surely relate to what we are experiencing right now. As a piece of my unsolicited advice,

Let us not get used in saying goodbyes to our loved ones, instead let this goodbyes be an inspiration to all of us. The key is really to "SAVE". The very reason why they work abroad is because fortune has been scarce for them here in the Philippines. In return their family left in the Philippines should always take care of all their earnings. Invest if you must, but invest wisely. One of the most fearful part of being an OFW is going back to their motherland penniless.

Apart from all those financial aspect, as a Pamilyang OFW, let us always make our family intact. Distance can never, ever be a hindrance to keep a family. There is now no excuse not to communicate with our OFW family, technologies now abound and they are now just a text or an email away. Do not just remember to call them everytime you would ask for money or support. A message asking how they are and that you love them and miss them will surely make them happy and focus.

Being a Pamilyang OFW is really hard, actually it is a choice that we had decided on, it is a sacrifice for a better life. Being a Pamilyang OFW is a responsibility in itself that we have to keep up. Let us show our OFW family that we are worth their sacrifice.

I almost forgot, today is my 3rd year in blogging. I can't believe that it has been 3 years since I started blogging. This blog has seen the worst and best of me, it has been a silent witness to my ups and downs in life. A lot of posts has encompassed the good times and bad times in my life, but in all of this I was able to mature a lot. I met lots of friends through this blog, I consider them as my "friends from a distance" since I may not see them but we have established an attachment with one another. Some of them I have met through several EBs and blogger events.

I have been blogging here for three years, oftentimes I would took a blog leave to attend to other matters out of the cyber space. But I believe that once a blogger always a blogger. I will always have an urge to write or if not to visit the blogs of other bloggers.

Brown Pinay will be in the blogosphere as long as my passion for writing is still burning.

To all of you who always took time to visit my modest blog, Thank you. Thanks for allowing me to share my thoughts and insights with you. I am glad that you are there, although it is only virtual, it does not count anymore. What matters is that you will all be my friends from a distance.

From here on, Brown Pinay will still continue to blog and on to my fourth year.

Time and again, I will always rant about my weight gain and my insomnia. I have written several posts about this areas in my life which I really find hard to address even up to this day. I want to reduce but it seems that I do not have the discipline to resist the good food around me nor have I the stamina to exercise to counter it.
A friend who have just arrived from the US, advised me of a wonderful product that she has discovered while working as a nurse abroad. When we are still younger, both of us have the same problems and issues with regards to our weight gain and insomnia. But last week when I saw her, she definetely has improved a lot. She looks younger and prettier not to mention an evident loss of weight.

Naturally, I immediately asked her secret which she happily shares with me. She told me that she is taking Stemulite : an all natural solution, It can have a dramatic effect on your muscle tone, size, and strength; body fat; endurance; and mobility. It would also help to have a badly needed good night sleep. For those who are picky when it comes to taste, my friend told me that it is simply awesome. It has a creamy vanilla taste.

I just hope that it will be readily available here in the Philippines and I am sure to grab one.

Victim of Circumstances or Victim Of Hayden

What is supposed to be a private moment has turned out to be a sensational and controversial video here in the Philippines. Perhaps, every Filipino here in the Philippines already knew the story about the sensational sex video of Dr. Hayden Kho and his partners. I am deeply outraged with the conduct of Hayden. His partners trusted him and they are by-passed of their privacy, now they are suffering from humiliation. I am sure that their families are also affected .Whether or not the videos were leaked because his laptop or harddisk was stolen is really out of the question. The point here is that Hayden took their videos unguardedly and without respect. This is such great disrespect. Are they a victim of circumstances? That I do not know. But what I am sure and certain of is that they are all victims of Hayden.

Hayden must really have a mental problem to document his private encounters with his partners. His misconduct is really disgusting. Hindi sya marunong gumalang sa kababaihan, hindi na nya naisip ang kanyang nanay at mga kapatid at kamag anak na babae.
