Imara was preparing to come to Aruba for vacation when she contacted me and arranged a photo shoot. Besides being a great photo shoot, this one came with a lesson attached and I’ve decided to share this with you. I usually go into shoots with an idea more or less of what’s each client’s desire, this was not the case here. My creativity was stretched. One does not know their true potential until they like the eaglet be dropped from a height and notice that in uncertainty they are really able to soar. I’m very happy how this turned out. And I challenge you today to go out and do something you’re not perfectly comfortable with and see what the results are. I would say this is one of my best sessions and this is not all because of me but the subject is stunning, the location breathtaking and the willingness and determination of the subject is like no other. If you want beautiful images you have to hang out on a limb a little. The effort is well worth it. Aruba offers a variety of awesome backdrops but at times it will take a little effort to get to them especially if you want great images in fancy clothing or wedding dresses etc. These were taken at the Gold Mine Ruins after Imara have seen the maternity session I’ve done at this very same location. Family Bertus

Mr. Bertus did me a favor earlier this year and brought me some light modifiers and after getting them here safely I promised that I would’ve returned that favor and document his family. My schedule was a bit booked so I didn’t fulfill my promise until recently. It was a real pleasure to document Family Bertus. I’ve chosen to go to a section of the island that I haven’t shot at myself before, just in hopes of getting a different perspective of the island.

It’s a baby, so let’s celebrate

My current market is not the local market but I’ve been contemplating breaking into the local market just hadn’t sit down and put the details all together as I already have a business concept for the local market but never worked out the details of execution. A few weeks ago I’ve received a call from one of my brides (Not that she’s married to me but I’ve shot her wedding. Hence, my bride.) informing me that she’s pregnant and she wants us to go out and take a few shots. She has an amazing plan to document her progress over the months. I was very happy for her and wished her all the best. This request also gave me a kick in the seat to start off the local market. I’ll now have enough images to have a gallery specifically dedicated to maternity and babies. I already tentatively have another mom to be in line for a shoot so from here you’ll continue to hear more and more about pregnant moms and babies.

I just love my island, Aruba, I do enjoy studio work but what a contrast it draws out as you go out around the Island and shoot these images. These images were shot at the Gold Mine Ruins and surrounding area and we have plans of visiting a host of areas in the coming months. Enjoy!

I’ve had the immeasurable pleasure to finally meet and document a family that I’ve been in contact with for some time already through the World Wide Web.

Jessica contacted me in hopes that I do Family Portraits as they’re a big family and they’ve never taken a family portrait as the family is so ample that coordinating such has its complications and with everyone on island it can be offered to mom as a late Mother’s Day gift.

Upon getting to the Marriot Aruba Surf Club they were heading to the lobby to meet me, so we got to our arranged meeting spot simultaneously. I’ve recognized them instantaneously and introduced myself.

There were a total of eight people. A mom and a dad and their kids and one, self proclaimed adoptee. After talking for a while I’ve quickly noticed that this was about to be easy. A dream family, beautiful inside and out. Picture the TV family Cosby from the Bill Cosby show, only this time in real life. I couldn’t rave enough to my wife upon getting home. Having that many children you would believe that would get a bit chaotic but all was well in line and the parents did not once had to correct any of the six that were present. Mr. & Mrs. Boyd, I salute you on a job well done raising your kids to become respectable members of society.

During our conversation, I asked what they really wanted and if they’ve had any preferred spot around the premises that they wanted to shoot at and they’ve decided to leave it into my well capable hands. So we started walking with no plan in mind as I don’t like to scope out spots I prefer the areas to jump out at me and start to inspire me. I avoid repeating my areas and my poses. I want to do my clients justice by creating something totally unique for them, so enjoy!

This was our first family portrait and I must say that I love this one. I see this blown up big in Canvas in the family room.

They really wanted family portraits so we shot mostly that and here is another option. I really like the relaxed feel of this one.

What is a family portrit without the sunset in Aruba, it just does not work. It goes hand in hand.

I loved this portrait so much that I’ve attempted a different (current) edit to it to see how it would look and I love the final outcome.

I know that we’ve created friends for life as Mrs Boyd let me in on a secret that this will become their main vacation spot from now on and yes we welcome you Boyd family and thank you for visiting. Contact me whenever you’re back at least for a virgin colada around the pool or even dinner with my family.

Stephen’s Surprise Engagement

I was again commissioned to cover a surprise engagement, this time for Stephen and Valerie. Stephen contacted me weeks prior to his arrival and let me in on all the juicy details of the evening. I showed up at the Aruba Westin Resort, introduced myself to them and went out to the beach to take a few shots. I’ve started out with some pretty simple poses getting them comfortable with being infront of the lens as I know that it is pretty challenging for us non-models, therefore I take my time and really talk and attempt to get the clients as comfortable as possible in as much as I’m convinced everyone has their inner “bedroom/bathroom mirror” sexy, so I attempt to engage this sexy infront of the lens.

This state of mind was not difficult for them to achieve as they are two people that exudes passion. It is very obvious how Valerie sparkles when she’s in Stephen’s presence but Stephen has his inner sexy as well, having planned this engagement from beginning to end. Asked her dad, arranged a photographer, booked a top (romantic) restaurant (Flying Fishbone), candle lit table for two at the water’s edge, toes in the sand experience under the stars explains it all. The brother’s sexy!

Stephen and Valerie met in college four years ago and in Stephen’s words “We’ve been together ever since” They love to travel, they’ve been to Aruba twice prior to this trip and love it very much so what better place for Stephen to pop the question. Valerie and Stephen, congratulations and happy planning!

Happy Birthday Abishah!

It was on June 4th, last year we’ve picked her up from the breeders, I periodically post images of here on the blog. I’ve previously posted this one below pretty close to when we’ve received her.

Here you have her on her first birthday. The entire family singing happy birthday. I was the photographer so I couldn’t get in on the fun but I did had my Sponge Bob party hat on. If you look closely you could also see Abhir our other family pet. He’ll get his one post with pictures soon.

Does it show that she’s trying hard to ignore the cake.

Now, this was totally not my idea but Shayenne’s. This is her posing in a dress, a real dress I might add.
