Babysitting Course Comes to BSLC

BSLC will host a Safe Sitter ® babysitting course. This course is an up-to-date training and well rounded youth development program with a medical basis, teaches teen babysitters everything they need to know to keep themselves and the children in their care safe. The nationally recognized, pediatrician-developed program includes: child care techniques, basic first aid, infant/toddler CPR, rescue techniques (like choking infant) babysitting as a business, on-line computer safety and cell phone safety.

We are asking that all youths interested in providing nursery care attend this course or submit evidence of taking a similar class. However, this opportunity is available to any interested teen over the age of 11.

9:00A.M. – 4:00P.M.
Cost: $30.00 (please inquire about scholarship opportunities)
Lunch: Will be provided. Please advise of any food allergies

Sermon Summary: Who Are You?

We all play multiple roles in our lives, and usually more than one at a time. A few examples that could qualify those roles are employee, spouse, child, parent, student, volunteer, athlete, etc.

Paul showed us a photograph of him fishing. In the picture, he looks happy. But that doesn’t say much. It's our actions that say it all. He went on to tell us that we Christians are Christians whether in church or outside the church doors. His beautiful message was an important lesson to all.

Be mindful to continue your charity, kindness, goodness, love, peace, forebearance, kindness, faithfulness and self-control as you carry on your daily life. These qualities are otherwise known as the Fruits of the Spirit, see Galatians 5:22-23.

Simeon blesses Jesus and per the law, gives him up to the Lord. Knowing only as revealed through the Holy Spirit, that he is "a light for Gentiles," "Glory for all of

Israel

," He praises God for Jesus.

Wes explains that Jesus came just as God promised and he will come again and he asks, How can we be quiet?

We live in the existence of the greatest miracle - Christ Jesus placing His Holy Spirit in us to be with us in whatever we do. And that Jesus is preparing a place for our salvation. What a blessing!

To find the classes, come through our main entry doors, then go down the hall and upstairs for Adults, and youth grades 1 through high school (except 3rd & 4th who meet down the hall, turn left first door on the left.) Preschool and Kindergarden Sunday School meets in the same hall as 3rd &4th, just a little further down and on the right. If you still cannot find your class, you can find a member in the sanctuary or in the kitchen who will be happy to help you.

Sunday, December 4th - John the Baptist - He Prepared the Way for Jesus

Ask a child about the Nativity scene and most likely, they'll be able to name
the angel, the shepherd, Mary, Joseph and Jesus. Ask them where's John the
Baptist? - you'll really throw them for a loop.

Today's gospel shows that John the Baptist was the one who prepared the way for
Jesus. How? By calling everyone within his voice to the Jordan River. He
first asked them to repent of their sins, then he baptized them. John the
Baptist was obedient to God's call to make disciples of all nations.

Fast forward to today. Look in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
You will see where we are asked to "go preach the good news that whoever
believes and is baptized is saved; whoever does not believe and is not baptized
will be condemned." We are asked to prepare the way for Jesus just like John the
Baptist was asked. It's tough at times to consider because our Lord Jesus
Christ is not accepted by all. But once you think on Jesus, dying on the cross,
taking on the humiliation of our sins, it's not hard anymore. We musn't turn
our backs on God's call to prepare the way for the one who gave his life for us
all. We are not worthy to tie the sandles of our Lord, but we are worthy for
eternity in God's eyes, because of what Jesus did - not because of anything
we've done. As the song says, let's "Prepare the Royal Highway!" AMEN!

Last Sunday - Living in Our Master's Joy

Picture this, a beautiful sketch of our Lord, Jesus Christ, looking up and smiling. This was the setting for our rich message presented by Paul on Sunday. Based on the Gospel message read to us from Matthew 25:14-30, he explained that the parable of the talents clearly shows how our God is loving, generous and trusting. This is His gift to us, not because of anything we've done, but because he loves us. So the question is, are we to just take the gift and run? No! If you go back and re-read the scripture verses, you will see that the message of what we do with His gifts is clear. We are to step boldly out and use the gifts He has given us to His glory.

Consider this: What gifts has God poured out on you?
Abilities/Skills
Time
Money
Patience
Humility
and most importantly - FORGIVENESS

His love for us is not measured in money or in what we do, but in the life, death and resurrection of Christ. Jesus' love is priceless and it does not balk at the cost of sin - it was paid in full. Our sins are BURIED.

Yes, we all have been given different gifts, but He loves us equally.

Christ uses our hands to do His work today;
He uses our feet to lead peopole in His way;
He uses our tongues to tell people how He died;
He has no help but our help to bring them to His side.

Last Sunday:
Wes brought his message in his usual powerful style this Sunday. There was not a sound in the sanctuary when he spoke on the Gospel where Jesus was being challenged in the temple by the chief priests and Pharisees. Jesus called the Pharisees hypocrites and told them to give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to give to God what is God's. Wes explained simply that we are God's children and that he wants our hearts. Read Matthew chapter 22.

Message Summary:
Elder, Paul Petersen was right on the mark when he spoke to us about God's Peace. He said the Holy Spirit led him to speak about Discipleship and he tied it in very nicely to his original topic - Peace. His bottom line was, it's not easy to be a disciple of Christ as we face alot of trials along the way. Paul urges us to "Be at peace. Show the unbelievers that by grace through faith we are sinless in God's eyes and have the free gift of eternal life"

"God Chooses Wierd People..."

Wes really gave a powerful message to us last Sunday. If you were not here, you missed a good one. He reminded us about God's choice in servants. Other than his own Son, Jesus Christ, all of His servants were misfits, sinners, poor and ordinary people like you and me. Not sure how Moses, Paul or the widow would feel about Wes' message, but it's true. Not that our Biblical History lessons included strange individuals, just that they were not what we might expect for Him to use as examples for us. Moses was not an eloquent speaker, yet convinced leaders after several meetings to let his people out of Egypt and into freedom. Paul was one with a goal to kill Christians, yet he turned his life around and decided to follow Christ and to lead others to do the same. And the widow who was so poor, she gave so little, yet it was all she had. These are three of the many examples of Christianity in the Bible working through regular folks, like you and me!
**** Gospel Verse - Luke 12:11..do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."***

So if you ever ask, am I worthy of God's love? Does my life have meaning? You need not ask. God who created you has a specific purpose for you and loves you for who you are. Questioning His creation is doubting Him. So, live on. Enjoy your life that He gave you. And be proud of yourself, because your Almighty Father is proud of His Masterpiece in you!
Matthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the groud outside the Father's care.

Good Morning!
This week is National Lutheran Women's Missionary League Sunday. It's a time to praise God for all the blessings he gives us so we can bless others all around the world. This biennium, our national LWML has a goal of collecting $1.5 million mites to assist Bible Translators, Gospel Outreach, Feed the Impoverised and so much more. Mites are powerful when they come together, just as we are when we come together and pray. So, keep collecting those pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and pray that all will come to know the love of our Lord, Jesus Christ and God's gift of everlasting life.

Concordia Ribbon Cutting, Thursday, October 27th 11am

Exciting News!
Our church choir has been invited to sing at the Ribbon Cutting for the new Concordia University School of Law, located downtown at 501 Front Street. We will be practicing every Thursday evening from 7:15 to 8:30 from now through the 20th of October, with the exception of October the 6th. Join us for this exciting community service event.

A Fresh Look at Worship

Good Monday Morning to God's Children:
If you weren't at church on Sunday, you missed a good one. Remember, we begin with Bible Study and Sunday School at 9am, then immediately follow with our Worship Service and then Fellowship.

Sunday School:
3-Adult Bible Studies are open for all to attend: "Fearless" by Max Lucado, "John 3:16" by Max Lucado, and a Marriage-Boosting class - "God's Intentions for Your Marriage"

Several Children and Youth classes are in progress and visitors are always welcome: pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th, 6th - Confirmation, and Jr. High/High School.

Worship: Put your selfishness aside and think of others...
Elder, Wes Smith, was filled with energy after attending a local Worship Seminar on Saturday with a few of us from BSLC. He admitted that had Jill not requested he scoot in so she could sit on the end, he might have left early. Understandably, he had just returned from a business trip late Friday night and was in need of some alone time. During his travels back, his quiet devotion to the Lord, quickly turned into a prodding from God - to reach out to another human being in love and compassion. Wes touched us all with his story of obeying the Lord when the opportunity presented itself. He began and ended his message with "Love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." Matthew 22:37-38 And "Love one another" John 13:34-35. This tied in beautifully with the cover of the bulletin, a picture of the Ten Commandment tablets. Yes, we are sinners, but God sees us as perfect through the cloak of Jesus Christ who took on our sins. We are worthy!

Hello and Welcome New Members! And Welcome back to our returning members!
Sunday, September 18th was a full house, even with the change of worship times from 9am to 10am. New Sunday School and Bible Study classes have started, but it's never too late to join us. We welcome all to come and worship with us every Sunday. When you are ready, join us in one of our many volunteer opportunities, whether that is helping out during the service or somewhere behind the scenes, there's a place for everyone to share their gifts. Would you balk if your employer paid you the same amount as your coworker who worked less than half the time? Of course, we are human and expect "equal pay." But Our Gracious Heavenly Father gives us the gift of grace and expects nothing in return, except our hearts. This is what we heard about in the Gospel lesson this week regarding God's Grace. Come next week to hear more.

Cole Valley Christian School's Golf Classic
