I've tried the pervwatch.org site a bunch of times, but it never seems to work.
I've tried finding more sex offender sites for Canadians, but my search has come up empty thus far.

Hi.

Cool script.

Only one thing.
In function onKeyPress bubble must be boolean instead int. Because when user presses enter, this event should not be handled by the form.
If it returns 1 or 0, like it is now, then form is submitted, which is not always good.

_b.AutoSuggest.prototype.onKeyPress = function(ev)
{
...
var bubble = true;
...
case RETURN:
this.setHighlightedValue();
bubble = false;
...
return bubble;
};

I have everything working with XML, however when I hit submit, nothing is getting sent to POST. Anyone have an idea on what could be causing it?

ok! So I fixed my issue after a bit more research...

The general issue is (I think) that my results are coming back from the service as xml.resultText and then I have to do an IE / FF check and then either use the IE loadXML function or the FF DOMParser system....

Works for me, I'm happy :)

Like the script. I got it to work in firefox but in IE I get an object error when it tries to parse the XML results. I had to modify the script because I found (in firefox) that the XML result was in the responseText property, not resultXML

Any Ideas?

Hi,

Great script!
I got almost everything working. I can read the user information with a mysql connection into the suggest box. The only problem is de ID, the scripts puts it in the hidden ID field. Is it possible to get this into a variable and insert it into the DB?

I am stuck. Please help.

Is there a way that I can enable/disable auto suggest on a input box by a selection of 2 radio buttons?

if radio "a" is selected, auto suggest is enabled on input box "input"
if radio "b" is select, auto suggest is disabled on input box "input"

I tried reassigning the as_xml variable to some other field to disable it on "input" but it doesn't take it. Suggest still works on the input box.

I tried to do what you suggested there now -

function doSomethingWith(obj){
person_id = obj.id;
person_name = obj.value;
person_dob = obj.info;
}

and invoke this in the callback function but when i try to call this callback function the script stops working.

I dont know javascript that well. But once i remove the text input that is being used for the search field it no longer works.

Is there any way that i can leave the original callback in place yet modify it to take additional varaibles...

My problem is that on top of the name value being passed I also need the id to be passed so i can store in a db.

Also can you suggest where i place the JS code. At the moment i am including , with php, the html form fields inside another form that is then being processed and sent onto a script that will extract and send the info to a db.

just fill the callback with a function call instead of a single command:

callback: function (obj) { doSomethingWith(obj); }

and create a function to handle the result

Hey there,
GREAT JOB! I LOVE IT.

So...I'm using struts (Java) I get the result into my 'livesearch' dev id, (and I have reference to the /css and /javascript files) and the result comes as XML

for some reason, the results comes without the frame and I don't have the ability to click on any result (it's a plain text).
