Begumgonj Textile Engineering College operated under administrative control of the Ministry of Education. Government of the Peoples Republic of Bagladesh acting through the Directorate of Technical Education.Begumgonj Textile Engineering College is a constituent college of the University of Chittagong, and its academic affairs including examination are controlled by the rules and regulations of the University of Chittagong.The Principal is the head of the college. He is supported by faculty members, officers and non-teaching staffs.

Textile technical education goes a long way in preparing generation of youth to face the challenge of time and to build up a happy and prosperous nation. The necessity of its ever increasing demand for up dated specialized education have made our technologies, philosophers, social scientists, educationalists and entrepreneurs think of doing something positive in this regard. There has been a new awareness in the nation to survive with honor and dignity.

The Mission are :

Provide state of art infrastructure and facilities relevant to needs of academic and practical education and training for both local and international needs.
Make available a faculty, from within and/or outside Bangladesh, who can not only impart the knowledge and expertise but are recognized by relevant stakeholders to be as such.
Provide for local and international alliances with relevant organizations including trade bodies to achieve world class education, locally relevant training and institutional branding for mutual benefit.
Provide for KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and against these constantly monitor faculty and facilities availability and performance.
Based on identified institutional, stakeholders and individual needs, provide for constant improvement (CI).
Undertake research, which will be largely need-driven, to support the National Industrial and Policy requirements in addition to supporting academic curriculum and faculty development.
Close liaison with all stakeholders to create a sense of ownership, as a means of learning and feedback for achieving CI in all aspects of BTEC’s Vision, Strategy, Plans and Results, specially industry and commerce, alumni, students, faculty and collaborators (local and international).
Excellence in BTEC’s own branding achieved through effective delivery of its Vision, Stakeholder satisfaction and effectiveness of relevant communication program.
Optimum sourcing and application of financial and other resources, transparently and for maximum value for money in accordance with Vision, Strategy and Plans.
Sourcing of funds from private and public sectors including donors in order to achieve sustainability on short and long term basis of the BTEC, ensuring transparency, merit-based approach, and independence of operation.
Every effort will be made to provide BTEC’s facilities to industry and government such as, but not limited to, lab services, consultancy, policy advice, management of issues and opportunities etc.
BTEC will endeavour to be an active player, in local and international academic and industry forums.
BTEC will achieve institutional strength, credibility and continuity through a sustainable institutional approach to management of BTEC and team spirit.
Have a financial assistance programme that ensures that no one who otherwise qualifies to be educated at BTEC is denied such education on grounds of financial insufficiency
Undertake appropriate Social, Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives.
Elements of BTEC’s Mission, if necessary, may be reviewed annually by the Board but shall always remain in consonance with its agreed Vision.

HISTORY OF BTEC

The College has a long past history. During the British colonial rule from 1911 to 1929, thirty three peripatetical Weaving School was established in East Bengal to meet Textile Technician by offering Artisan level course of 6 months duration. Begumgonj Textile Engineering College,
Noakhali is one of them which was established in 1918. In 1968 it was upgraded to District Weaving School offering 1 year course and in 1981 District Textile Institute offering 2 years certificate course in Textile Technology.But the certificate course was not acceptable to the industry. In 1993 a 3-year Diploma course was introduced under Bangladesh Technical Education Board(BTEB) which treated as a mile stone for the Textile education. Duration of this course was extended to 4-years in 2001.

In order to meet the challenge of increasing demand of new sophisticated & latest technology, Government decided to up grade this Institute to B.Sc. in Textile engineering College in 2007 to offer B.Sc. in Textile Engineering course affiliated by the University of Chittagong.

The college offers four-year B.Sc. in Textile Engineering program with specialization in :

At present approximately 240 students are enrolled in this college of which more than 10% are female. The College is dedicated to the advancement of learning and committed to promoting research in all the fields of Textiles.

STUDENTS ACTIVITIES

The college of Textile Technology has an active students union, debate club, Science & Cultural Club, run by the students, which holds frequent meetings and organizes mill visit, seminars, workshop, video show, blood donation, exhibition etc. Annual sports & cultural week and Special cultural programs are also the part of student activity.

The College has a well equipped auditorium of 400 seat capacity and a conference room of 120 seat capacity for holding cultural programmes workshop, seminar etc. A micro bus for teachers and a college bus of 52 seat capacity in used for industrial visits & study tour.

READING ROOM

The college has reading room for students. Daily and Weekly news paper are kept here. Students used to read newspapers during leisure hour.

PLAY GROUND

The college has two big play grounds. Students play football, cricket and volleyball here. Students have also an indoor play-room, where they can play indoor games.

STUDENT COUNSELING & CAREER SERVICE
The student counselling and guidance service is an integral part of the academic program for the students of this college. For this purpose there is coordinating teacher for each year who looks after the students affairs of that class & college administration plays a great role in the placement of our graduated in suitable jobs. Due to close links with the industry, industries place their demand of qualified graduates to the college authority. There is a close link with all of our ex-students helps the students through counselling.

HEALTH SERVICE
The medical service of this college includes a madical centre with one full time doctor & a medical assistant. The students are examined free of cost if and when necessary. Teachers, officers and other employees also get free medical advice

STIPEND
Fifty percent of the total students get stipend on the basis of merit of which 10% is reserved for girls.

INDUSTRIAL LINKAGE
The college has close link with the textile industry and different professional & related associations. Our student used to visit industry frequently as desired by the coordinating teacher. Students do their industrial attachment for two months in the industry. The college arranges some special lectures by the entrepreneur and textile graduates to build up the students.

The industry realizes that its future depend upon the quality of its technology and managers, because the quality of product and productivity play the vital role for exporting garments. Our gradutes play a great role in quality production & management. As a result export in garments sector now a days reached about 76% of the total export of the country. The majority of our graduates take up posts in the Textile Manufacturing Industry as Process or Plant Managers, Development Engineers or Technologists. Recent graduates have found employment in the areas of Production Management, Design, Textile Testing & Quality Assurance, New Product Development, Buying House, Commercial Banks, Customs etc. At present there is a huge demand of textile graduates, in our country.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the Begumgonj Textile Engineering College is competitive and needs a high academic attainment in S.S.C and H.S.C level. Selection of the student for admission is made through admission test of 200 marks. Students get a chance to take admission according to merit.

The entry requirements for admission test are:

Applicant must be permanent citizen of Bangladesh.
Applicant must be from science background having minimum GPA 4.0(without fourth subject) in SSC or equivalent and minimum GPA 4.0 (without fourth subject) in HSC or equivalent exam. Applicant must have average GP 4.5 and individually GP 3.5 in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at HSC or equivalent level.
GEC holder applicant must have average B grade in 5 subjects in O-Level and secure average B-grade in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the A-Level but D grade is not accepted.
Are not applicable for previous year students
Some seats are reserved for the freedom fighter and tribal communities.

WORKSHOP AND LABORATORY

Workshop and laboratories of the College of Textile Technology are equipped with latest machinery and equipments which is comparable to any international standard.

Yarn Manufacturing Laboratory

This laboratory provides practical knowledge regarding the yarn preparing technology both short staple (cotton) and long staple (Jute). The laboratory facilities includes both conventional and modern machinery with new technology like open-end spinning, air jet spinning etc.

Weaving Laboratory

The laboratory has the facility to weave cotton, synthetic and jute fabric including tappet, dobby and jacquard loom, hand operated loom, ordinary power loom, automatic power loom and modern loom with CAD system. Modern looms include air-jet loom, rapier loom with electronic jacquard, projectile looms.

Knitting Laboratory

This laboratory is equipped with both warp and weft knitting machinery. Warp knitting machinery includes both raschel and tricot machine and weft knitting machine include circular (single jersey, interlock, rib, jacquard) and flat knitting machine.

Wet Processing Laboratory

This laboratory includes machinery of singeing, desizing, mercerizing, dyeing, printing and finishing. Student are able to achieve detail idea about total wet processing technology from this laboratory. This laboratory has the facility of dyeing material as fibre, yarn and fabric form and various style of printing. Also this laboratory has computerized data colour system, Gas Chromato-graphy & Mass Spectrophotometer, light fastness & other quality control equipments required to ensure dyeing & finishing quality.light fastness & other quality control equipments required to ensure dyeing & finishing quality.

Garments Laboratory

Garments laboratory is equipped with all type of cutting, sewing & finishing machinery used in garments industry. This laboratory is also equipped with Lectra CAD-CAM System for computerized marker making & cutting and garments dyeing, washing & embroidery machine.

Testing Laboratory

Testing laboratory is one of the richest laboratory in the country and has the testing facility to test fibre, yarn and fabric. Almost all sorts to textile test can be performed here. This laboratory has conventional and modern testing machine including Evenness Testing, Classimat, Single Yarn Strength Tester, Multifunctional Superba Tester, HFT and Electronic Microscope.

Computer Laboratory

To build up the students for the new millennium well equipped computer laboratory provides the facility to get practical of 40 students at a time. We have also facilities to use internet for teachers & Students.

Electronic Laboratory

This laboratory gives the idea to the students about electronic & electrical technology. This laboratory is also equipped with pneumatic and Electro-pneumatic control system.

Physics Laboratory

Physics laboratory is well equipped with machinery and equipments suitable for graduate students.

Chemistry Laboratory

Chemistry laboratory is suitable for getting practical of 40 students at a time.

Engineering Workshop

Engineering workshop is equipped with lathe machine, Universal strength tester, shapping machine, cutting machine, drill machine, welding machine, circular saw and various types of tools for carpentes.
