The yellow lower case letters on purple gives a feel reminiscent of the 1970s.

The US service has a share of total TV viewing of 1.5%, skewed towards younger, multicultural audiences, according to Nielsen’s The Gauge report.

“During a time of seismic change in entertainment, Tubi continues to grow and resonate with audiences as the most watched free TV and movie streaming service in the US,” said Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi. “This traction comes from our commitment to putting the viewer first, and we’ll continue to lean into this strength in the coming year with a series of new programming and product initiatives. Today we’re sharing a new brand direction that reflects our evolution and serves as the foundation for what’s to come.”

Sixty-three percent of Tubi streamers are cord cutters and cord nevers, and 30% are unreachable on other major free AVODs, according to the November 2023 MRI-Simmons’ Cord Evolution Study.

Tubi’s current content includes Shattered Glass that follows four WNBA players through an exhilarating journey into the heart of professional women’s basketball, the BBC’s coming-of-age dramedy Boarders, and the comedy-thriller series Dead Hot.

In addition to the earlier ban of RT and Sputnik, a new decision and regulation have come into force banning Rossiya RTR/RTR Planeta, Rossiya 24/Russia 24 and TV Centre International, outlets that had already been suspended in several countries but could still be accessed via satellite.

The sixth sanction package addresses this issue by covering any means of transmission or distribution (cable, satellite, IPTV, internet service providers, video sharing platforms and applications) and prohibiting advertising of any products or services produced or broadcast by the sanctioned outlets. Attempting to circumvent the sanctions is also prohibited.

The EC notes that specific safeguards were introduced to protect freedom of expression and journalistic activities:

Independent media can still report on the sanctioned outlets and use extracts for illustration purposes
Sanctioned outlets and their staffs can continue to carry out other activities in the European Union (research and interviews, for instance)

The EC also says that In addition to the listed sanctions, it has also adopted a decision authorising the Ukrainian National Commission for the State Regulation of Electronic Communications, Radiofrequency Spectrum and the Provision of Postal Services (NCEC) to take part in the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), in an effort to secure affordable cross-border communications and connectivity, which are key to allow refugees to stay in contact with people at home and abroad.

According to B92, Supernova is a brand name used jointly by the cable operators Radijus vektor, Kopernikus, Masko, Telemark sistems and AVCOM.

In a statement on a distribution offer for the channels, Supernova says that it was many times more unfavourable than that currently held by Radijus vector and Kopernikus Technology, adding that United Media did not interfere with the Supernova brand during 2019, when it received over €4 million from the operators employing the brand.

The statement also says that United Media wants to limit Supernova both territorially and in terms of the number of users to prevent tens of millions of euros in penalties by extending the network to Novi Sad, Kragujevac and other locations, in violation of the law.

Significantly, Supernova also says it accepted the main element of United Media’s offer, namely the price of €20 million and contract length of three years, with its only demand being that for the text of the contract to be the same as previous ones.

Furthermore, it says that it has contacted both United Media and its owner BC Partners in the hope of finding a compromise solution.

The authority has repeatedly taken action against the broadcaster in the past and has imposed fines on several occasions. “Sky has repeatedly disregarded the prohibition of unauthorised telephone marketing and in some cases harassed consumers in a considerable manner. We impose heavy fines on such repeat offenders,” BNetzA president Jochen Homann said in Bonn.

The agency has received around 1,000 notices about illicit advertising calls from Sky. The calls were made to sell pay-TV subscriptions, either by acquiring new customers or by winning back former subscribers.

According to the authority, the calls were in many cases not based on a valid consent for promotional activities; other affected parties had revoked their consent. The fine is not yet legally binding. If Sky lodges an appeal, the District Court of Bonn would handle the case.

Sky is now evaluating its options. “We have received the notice about the fine from the federal network agency. We will now examine the claims in detail and then decide about appropriate legal steps,” a Sky spokeswoman told Broadband TV News. “We ask for your understanding that we will not comment further on an ongoing case at this time.”

The previous round channel logo has been replaced by a square box with an open frame. The Roman II is located in the centre of the box. In the new name, ‘zwei’ (translated ‘two’) is spelled in full for the time in the channel’s history.

“RTLzwei stands for young, modern and innovative reality TV. We operate in a fragmented, digitised and highly competitive market. With our new corporate design, we are pursuing a clear goal: RTLzwei will remain clearly recognisable as an independent, unique entertainment brand,” said Carlos Zamorano, chief marketing & communications officer.

“Seeking a design that would be versatile, intertwined with the need to build a common story around all sports featured at Tokyo 2020, Eurosport’s creative inspiration centres on Manga – a unique style of Japanese comic book aimed at both adults and children,” the broadcaster said in a press statement.

“The logo unites the Eurosport logo, Olympic rings and Manga-influenced Tokyo 2020 typeface, thus bridging the gap between western and eastern cultures and ushering Manga into a new era.”

“Our Olympic Games journey started with PyeongChang 2018. It was our great privilege to broadcast the greatest show on earth to passionate communities of fans across Europe,” said JB Perrette, President and CEO Discovery International.

“We used innovative techniques and new ways of engagement across all platforms to make these Games truly digital, which were instrumental in delivering record viewership.

“We have set our ambition for Tokyo even higher. We are committed to delivering a Games experience at a scale that has never been seen before; we’ll be bigger and bolder, engaging more people on more screens and showing every minute, every sport, and every athlete.

“Eurosport broadcasts 70% of the Summer Olympic sport disciplines so our line-up of world-class experts are uniquely placed to tell the stories that really matter, delivering unrivalled sports expertise. Our award-winning Eurosport cube was a huge hit and we will amplify this experience using the latest technologies for Tokyo 2020 to immerse fans in the action like never before.”

George Aivazoglou, Vice President of Marketing at Eurosport, added: “We wanted our Tokyo 2020 brand identity to create a unique symbol that incorporates and respects Japanese culture and the iconic Eurosport logo, to become instantly recognisable and resonate with millions of people watching the Games across Europe.

“Over the next 18 months, fans will witness how this new creative vehicle will underpin Eurosport’s marketing campaign ahead of and during Tokyo 2020. With this design we believe we have created a visual identity that is versatile, conveys the dynamic side of the Games and engages younger generations – truly visionary.”

The Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will take place on Friday 24 July with the Games to continue until 9 August.
