Rousimar Palhares' Seminar and Balck Belt Graduation at BTT Boston

Last Saturday, May 12th, BTT Boston held a seminar with Master Murilo Bustamante and UFC Fighter Rousimar "Toquinho" Palhares.

The gym was full of students ready to learn some techniques from the leg lock master and once again Palhares demonstrated a lot of patience while teaching his famous positions.

At the end of the event, Prof. Daniel Gazoni received his 3rd Degree from Prof. João Amaral. Well deserved, Prof. Gazoni has been always present and is one of the most technical instructors of the East Coast.

Team Pitbull/ BTT wins at first round in the Combat Zone 41

Combat Zone 41 was held at Rockingham Racetrack, our affiliate school Spero's Martial Arts had one of their own 135 lb. fighters making his debut against a battle tested, undefeated fighter by the name of Heath England (2-0).

Francisco Lopez has been training with Team Pitbull (Spero's) for about 6 months now and has never competed in any type of martial arts prior to the event.

When the opening bell sounded it was Lopez who looked like the more experienced fighter, picking apart England with punches, kicks and stuffing the takedown when needed. At one point, Lopez was in trouble by way of a deep rear naked choke.

Lopez weathered the storm and escaped finding himself on top.

With only 10 seconds left in the round, Lopez fired of two punches that found their way to his opponants chin and left the battered England completely unconcious!

Team Pitbull/ BTT with the win at 2:59 rnd 1 and Francisco finds himself winning the knockout of the night award!

"I would like to thank my teammates at Spero's and BTT." said Lopez, "I am honored to represent them."

BTT Boston results at the New York Open Jiu Jitsu 2012

Last weekend the IBJJF hosted the New York Open Jiu Jitsu 2012, since the first edition in 2009 the tournament is growing every year and the Brazilian Top Team Competition Team is always present.

This time every single athlete bought a piece of hardware home.

3 gold medals: Brian Vizarreta (White-juvenil feather), Jaime Santana (Blue Belt-male) and Nathalia Azoff (Purple medium).

Silver medal: Roberto Amaral (White Super heavy) and 2 bronze, Bruno Amaral (Black Belt Adult) and Brian Caldwell (Black Belt Senior heavy).

Congrats to everyone, this is a result of a great team work!

BTT Boston at Caxcudo World Cup 2012

The Mass BJJ Federation held the Caxcudo World Cup 2012 last sunday march 18th at the Milford, MA High School.

Brazilian Top Team send some competitors and had a good results overall.

The Highligh of the tournament was the Purple Belt Challenge, between Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Carlos "Peixe" Fernandes represented BTT and won his fight via choke.

Congrats to all and once again great coaching by Prof. Daniel Gazoni.

BTT at the Ultimate Absolute 2

Last weekend Renan Borges, Brazilian Top Team Black Belt, did such a great job playing his game against some of the best grapplers in the world in New York City.

The Ultimate Absolute is a 16 men tournament competing for a U$ 10,000 cash prize plus a U$ 1,000 submission bonus.

First round Renan won by 5 x 0 against multiple time bjj world champion Bruno Malfacine and in the second round he defeated Wilson Reis (bjj world champ and Bellator fighter) by 9 X2.

Celsinho Vinicius stopped Renan in the semi but he finished the tournament in 3rd place.

Great job by Renan and great coaching by Daniel Gazoni (BTT Boston head coach).

It is this Saturday, February 4th of 2012, the Brazilian Top Team Boston will host the In-House GI Tournament.

This is going to be a standard tournament rules with the official IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) Rules.

The registration will be open until the day of the tournament at 11:30a.m. and it can be done at the BTT Boston front desk or with your BTT Head Instructor. The event will start at 12:00pm

This will be a double elimination tournament, minimum two fights guaranteed. The tournament will be held at BTT Boston Head Quarter in Everett, Massachusetts.

Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Master Joao Amaral will be having his grand opening on Monday, January 30th, of Brazilian Top Team Boca Raton new location!

The last Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Belt Promotions of the 2011 will be held on Wednesday, December 28th at 6pm and Thursday, December 29th at 12pm.

Everyone should show up and take the belt exam (stripes and belts).

That's your chance to get stripes or belt and to see your evolution. If you can't make it, please let your instructor know.

Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship Trials held in San Antonio, Texas.

Nathalia Azoff placed third in the 140lbs and under purple, brown, black division.

Bruno Amaral fought well and had a very tough match in the 163lbs division.

Rousimar "Toquinho" Palhares returns at UFC 142

On january 14, 2012, The UFC will make its return to Rio de Janeiro for UFC 142.

The good news is BTT's ace Rousimar "Toquinho" Palhares will fight again in brazilian soil. Toquinho is scheduled to face Mike Massenzio at the main event card.

Massenzio is 1-1 during his UFC run while Palhares has won five of his last six.

It will be a great bout, stayed tuned for an exclusive interview with Palhares.

Montreal Open International Jiu Jitsu

The IBJJF held its first edition of the Montreal Open at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau gymnasium in Montreal/Canada yesterday.

Brazilian Top Team had a great team competing and a lot of medals were conquered.

One week after winning gold at the black belt division at the Boston Open, Renan Borges competed at the open class division facing bigger opponents but managed to win double gold.

Alison Tremblay ( Blue female ), Dominic Cote ( Blue belt adult master ) , Piotr Oglaza ( Blue Belt Senior 1) and Nathalia Azoff ( Purple Belt ) won their weight and open class division.

Last saturday, the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation) held its first edition of the Boston Open International Jiu Jitsu at the Umass's gymnasium.

Despite the hurricane Irene arrival set for the weekend, hundreds of jiu jitsu players competed. Brazilian Top Team send it team with almost 30 athletes and they bought back 19 medals.

The highlights of the event were BTT black belt Renan Borges overcoming Ryan Hall taking gold at feather and Nathalia Azoff, who took gold at weight and open class.

New Black Belt in Boston

Brazilian Top Team Boston had its belt ceremony last week and during 3 days Prof. João Amaral and Prof. Daniel Gazoni conducted the belt test from white belts all the way to black.

Black Belts Renan Borges, Thayse and Bruno Amaral were present to help.

First day was only for white belts and several people proved that they were ready for their blue belt.
A very emotional and touching moment took place on the second night when the black belt was awarded to Roger Woo.

Roger have been practicing martial arts his whole life and for 16 years practicing brazilian jiu jitsu.
All the students were also reminded of the meaning (for them and for the ones that are looking up to them) of the belts they wear around their waist.

A couple of tough blue bets, Mateus and Sean were promoted to purple and Atila Javor got his deserved brown belt.
Last but no least black belts Renan Borges (world class competitor) and Thayse (one of the first female black belts in New England) received their first degree.

Congrats to all!

Our affiliated school in New Hampshire (Dave Spero) will have a fighter at the Combat Zone 38 . Matt Bouchard will debut at 135, the event will be held at Rockingham Park in Salem / NH, friday July 29th.

At the last edition of Combat Zone, two fighters from Spero's team won their bouts: Ralph Llorens stopped Xavier Vargas at 2:39 of round 3 while Dave Clemens manages to use his wrestling to take down and dominate Isiah Ocasio on the ground, winning by unanimous decision.
