I went out for dinner last night with some friends and was surprised with an awesome belated birthday gift of these Rubik's salt and pepper mills. They are totally cool... to grind the salt or pepper, you spin the top of the cube just as you would play with a Rubik's Cube puzzle. Coincidentally, I have been plannig a retro 80's gift guide for my blog and I haven't been able to decide when to start it. Well, besides being a great addition to my kitchen, these grinders have also inspired me to start my list! Here are a couple of other Rubik's related gift ideas:

This cube clock provides time, temperature, a calendar, and an alarm for only $19.99 at Perpetual Kid. It's battery operated (which I don't love) and I don't know the dimensions, but still... it's pretty awesome! You can also find the Rubik's salt and pepper mills at Perpetual Kid, so stop being jealous and go buy your own pair ;)

If you happen to have an extra $600 sitting around, you can get this Rubik's Cube Table from Jellio. Jellio has some great retro inspired pieces. If you search through their store, you should also check out the Gummi Bear lights and the Candy Dots bench.

Yay! I just found out that I was accepted to the BUST Magazine Holiday Craftacular! I've never been before, but I looked at some pictures from past years and it looks like a great show. It will be held on December 6th at the Metropolitan Pavilion 125 West 18th Street in New York City. If you are in the area, come stop by and say hello!

christmas hamsters

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a... hamster. My hamster character is all decked out for the holidays and in pillow form for Christmas '09. These little guys are about eight inches tall and come in three different designs. Towards the end of the month, they will be available for sale at shanalogic.com, but for now, I am selling the prototypes in my etsy shop.

I was pretty deep into a random blog cruise that was stumbling out of control when I came across this blog and a post about the Otamatone. After knowing of this products existence for approximately 10 minutes, I can now offically say that I must have it and need it if I am to continue living. It is pretty bizarre, wildy irritating, and completely unnecessary... still need it. At $84.99, it is also pretty expensive for a toy... still need it.

my holiday stuff

Believe it or not, but it is already that time of year... the holidays are coming! I've spent the day getting the first round of my holiday items ready for my etsy shop. What's up first? This year, I have a set of four "Santa Paws" buttons - a beagle, a pug, and two chihuahuas are included in the set. I also have a couple of the reindeer ornaments (literally two) that I made last year... though, once these sell out, they are gone! I am also offering two different types of Christmas cards this year: a screenprinted Santa Hamster holding a candy cane and an offset printed card featuring a rabbit and a squirrel exchanging gifts. I have a couple more items planned for this season and they will be appearing in the next few weeks.

My little girl, Poppy, had a pretty large ball form under her left arm in a very short period of time. The vet didn't like the looks of it (nor did I) and decided it needed to come out. As soon I heard the words tumor, biopsy, and cancer mentioned, my paranoid brain began looping the following arguement in my head:

"it couldn't be..."
"i know it is..."
"there's no way it could be..."
"it has to be..."

Luckily, now that the surgery is done, the great news is that there wasn't any cancer. As you might have guessed, I am relieved. Now, she just has to deal with the evil cone-collar. She hates it, but I have to admit that it amuses me some... especially since she has become the biggest clutz in the world with this thing on. I don't think there is anything in my house that she hasn't walked into. I really shouldn't enjoy that, I know I shouldn't, but I still find it cute. She looks like something out of the Jetsons... I keep thinking of the Las Venus episode.

I was looking through some old craft magazines from the seventies and eighties today for some crafting inspiration. I want to say that I got some cool ideas, but that would be a lie. I mostly found some really horrible craft projects and a surprisingly large number of full page cigarette ads. I had to scan this "LITTLE STINKER" ad that was in the back of a magazine from 1975... it makes me laugh and I thought I should share.

My family came over on Friday night to visit and to celebrate the, now, 36 years I have spent on this Earth. It was nice to catch up with everyone in between the massive amount of eating that we all did. I got some really thoughtful gifts from everyone and though not the purpose of having them over, it was appreciated.

Knowing my passion for all things from my childhood, my youngest brother gave me some LEGO sets that I used to have when I was a kid... I'm saving them for a day that I need a nostalgia rush and I will put them together with the same excitement as I did when I was younger. My other half got me tickets to Carrie Fisher's one woman show Wishful Drinking which is based on her book of the same title. I got the book last Christmas and really enjoyed reading it. I think it took me about two hours to read... not because I am a super fast reader or anything, it's an easy read with big print and not a lot of pages. We'll be in the first row for the show and I've already started the countdown to December 30th!
