Hi, this is Chris from Buidling Your Empire, and I’m back with another resource review, this time for Hostgator.

What you are about to learn in this Hostgator review is why a good webhosting company is so vitally important, and what can happen if you have a bad hosting company. You’ll also learn why in my opinion Hostgator is the very best webhosting choice for you and your business.

But before we get into the specifics of Hostgator, I want to share a personal horror story with you that illustrates why having a good webhost is vital to your business.

We formerly used a popular hosting company that you’ve probably heard – I’m not going to tell you who it is to protect the innocent – or in this case, the guilty.

But a while back, we put together a massive internet marketing campaign. We designed special websites, spent a bunch of time driving traffic to these sites, and really just invested a ton of time and money in this big campaign.

Well, a couple of hours into the campaign, I fired up my analytics tracking system to see how things were going – and found that we had exactly ZERO hits registered on the websites. Not ONE, even with this massive volume of traffic we were driving.

Well, it turns out that our hosting company’s server crashed, and ALL of our websites were down, and had been since before we started this internet marketing campaign. And to make matters worse, the ONLY option we had to try to communicate with this hosting company was through email. We couldn’t call them or chat with them or anything else. And to make matters worse, it takes at least 24 hours for them to respond to you.

So there we were, with all this traffic ending up on 404 error webpages. All of our hard work and time and effort and money was WASTED, and there wasn’t a damn thing we could do about it. This wasn’t our first issue with this crappy hosting company – but it was the worst, and it was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

So long story short, we finally dumped that crappy hosting company that just cost a ton of time and money, and switched everything over to HostGator, and we haven’t looked back ever since.

What I really love about Hostgator, is that it meets all 5 criteria of an “excellent” webhosting company:

1.	Reliability – We haven’t had a single problem with website downtime or crashing ever since we switched all of our sites over to Hostgator. Not once. And it’s now been a few years since we made the change. The reliability with Hostgator has been absolutely excellent – no problems at all.

2.	Outstanding service – If you recall, I mentioned that with our old hosting company, we could only contact them through email – we couldn’t call them or IM them or contact them in any other way. Well, with Hostgator, you can call them directly, OR (even better) they have a great online chat option that is practically instant. I don’t know about you, but pretty much anytime I have the option for online chat, I always use it. I hate the telephone. But the only time I’ve ever really had to use it was for help with passwords and similar issues, and it’s been AWESOME, especially after our miserable experience before.

3.	Unlimited EVERYTHING – Hostgator gives you unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage, unlimited emails, and if you choose the right hosting option, unlimited domains. But you need to make sure that whatever hosting company you go with has Unlimited everything – you don’t want to find yourself in a situation where you run out of bandwidth mid month. Picture what your cell phone company does when you run out of minute mid-month, and then times that by a thousand – that’s what can happen if you don’t have unlimited bandwidth.

4.	Uses C-Panel and has Fantastico – If you have any experience with building websites, then you know how great C-Panel is – there’s a reason why it’s the most popular control panel out there. And Fantastico is a MUST if you are using WordPress for your site, which ALL of you should be!

5.	Inexpensive – you can get webhosting through Hostgator for just a few bucks a month! I’ve been using them for a few years now, and we pay peanuts every month to them for hosting on literally hundreds of websites, spread out over multiple domains. Their pricing is AWESOME. You will love it. It’s actually CHEAPER than our old hosting company.

And on top of all that, Hostgator even gives you a $100 credit for Google Adwords when you sign up – which is great if you plan on doing Pay Per Click marketing.

In a nut shell, that’s why we just love Hostgator, and why we recommend them to everyone. They have been an excellent hosting company for us, we have no complaints. Don’t get stuck bouncing back and forth between multiple hosting options. Pick Hostgator – which meets all 5 criteria of an excellent webhosting company – and then get back to more important matters, like running your business!

By clicking on this link right now you can claim a nice discounted rate from Hostgator, and also get a $100 Google Adwords credit.

Have you ever heard of contrast marketing? My guess is no…since contrast marketing is a strategic marketing strategy pioneered here at Building Your Empire.

Bryson Garbett gets it.

He understands. He already knows everything that you need to know about The Dandelion Effect.

You’re probably wondering who this Bryson Garbett fellow is.

And you’re also wonder what in tarnation is “The Dandelion Effect”, and what on earth it has to do with strategic marketing.

Bryson Garbett is the President and CEO of Garbett Homes in Salt Lake City, Utah.

And the Dandelion Effect is an incredibly powerful marketing concept dreamt up by yours truly. Simply put, its a perfect example of the power of strategic marketing. It’s Contrast Marketing at its finest.

Garbett Homes is a revolutionary home builder that is pioneering the construction of all-green, ultra-energy-efficient and environmentally-conscious homes.

Their business is thriving, and they have created the “Green” model that homebuilders across the Western United States are trying to duplicate (usually unsuccessfully).

More on this exploding small business later.

Now let’s talk about The Dandelion Effect.

I want you to imagine that you have a perfectly manicured, lush, deep green lawn (for those of you in Manhattan this will take an extra dose of imagination). A lawn that you meticulously care for, spending hours trimming, edging, fertilizing, and talking to your lawn. A lawn that your grandfather would be proud of.

A lawn that is so perfect that your neighbors’ lawns are green with envy (pun totally intended).

Now I want you to imagine that one fine summer morning, you step out your front door in your bathrobe (or your underwear – but I’m not here to judge). You yawn, stretch, scratch, try to decide if you should grab the morning paper before or after starting the coffee pot, and then…

…you see it, and are stopped dead in your tracks.

There, sprouting right in the middle of your ridiculously perfect lawn is a mammoth, neon yellow Dandelion.

Your perfect sea of carefully-groomed greenness is ruined by that one stupid yellow weed.

Suddenly you don’t notice the lawn anymore. All that you can see if that DAMN DANDELION!

Guess what, folks – that Dandelion is YOUR BUSINESS.

That lawn is EVERYONE ELSE.

The whole point of strategic marketing strategy known as Contrast Marketing is for your business to stand out like a bright yellow Dandelion on an otherwise unbroken field of dark green grass.

So what does this have to do with Garbett Homes? Are they landscaping their yards with dandelions? (I’m almost afraid to suggest this idea to them. I’m sure they’d call it “native vegetation” and run with it…)

Garbett Homes recently found a perfect way use The Dandelion Effect. It’s another example of Contrast Marketing at its finest.

I was driving down the freeway a few weeks ago, past the same dirty, stinky, nasty oil refinery that decades ago some brilliant city planner decided to allow to be constructed on prime commercial property alongside the freeway just north of Salt Lake City.

But as I drove by the refinery on this fine day, I saw it. I spotted the Dandelion. And I barely even noticed the refinery anymore.

There on a bill board sign right smack dab in front of this nasty refinery was a HUGE advertisement for Garbett Homes. The Green Homebuilder. Natures Homebuilder.

You don’t get much more “contrasting” than that. A gigantic, dramatic billboard sign advertising the Greenest homebuilder you’ll ever find set against the backdrop of a smoke-belching environmental disaster.

The contrast made me want to rush out a buy a home from them just to cleanse the grimy feeling left by the refinery. Realizing that, I was so proud of Garbett Homes’ marketing department that I could have cried.

So do you get it? Do you grasp the significance of this marketing concept? Can you harness the power of this marketing strategy? Can you turn your business into a Dandelion?

Here are two quick examples to help fire up your creativity engines (these may or may not be actual real-life examples. Ok, so I just made them up).

1. Smack dab in the heart of the Kingdom of Disgustingly Opulent Excess (a.k.a. between Gucci and Prada on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills) you rent a sidewalk booth where you collect donations for your Charity that provides aid to starving children in Africa. And because you understand how to use The Dandelion Effect, you are sure to prominently display life-sized pictures of these poor bone-thin children.

2. You strategically locate your health food store near a busy McDonalds, where as they walk out of the restaurant – feeling all gross and gassy and bloated – every customer is sure to see it.

I could go on and on, but there’s no need to. You get the drift. The whole point is to stand out from the noise, to be the outlier, to refuse convention. To be a punk rocker in a bingo parlor.

The alternative is to just blend in. To fade into the noise. To wear the uniform of monotonous expectation.

Blending in is for government employees and factory workers and meter maids. You are an Entrepreneur. It’s for you to be a giraffe among zebras.

So what are you going to be - A blade of grass? Or a dandelion?

The Dandelion Effect is a very powerful small business marketing strategy. But its not the only one. Or even the most powerful marketing strategy.

Do you believe in second chances? I do. (And as you’re about to find out, there’s actually a strategic marketing strategy reason behind it)

I also believe in third chances too (but not fourth chances – but that’s a different story)

In fact, I’m such an advocate of second chances, that I recently bought a loaf of bread from an ex-con.

Why did I do it?

In today’s strategic marketing strategy lesson, I give you 3 answers to this question, and also why these answers are vitally important to your business’ strategic marketing plan.

Strategic Marketing Strategy: The Power Of A Fairytale

“I recently bought a loaf of bread from an ex-con.”

This might sound like a strange comment. First of all, why is the simple act of buying a loaf of bread worthy of remark?

And second…why would I buy a loaf of bread from someone who is a multi-felon, with convictions for drug use, drug trafficking, armed robbery, and assault on a police officer?

Well, before we get into that, let me just say that the bread was good. Damn good. And I almost didn’t buy it.

But I did buy it. And here’s the reason why. Actually, here are the THREE reasons why – and also why the real reason I bought this bread – and the strategic marketing strategy lesson behind this reason – is crucially important to your own business.

Reason #1 – It was very healthy

I’ve been on a major health kick lately. Not by choice, mind you – it’s a forced health kick.

My wife has it in her head that for some reason it’s important that I have clean arteries and a nice shiny colon (and now I do have a nice shiny colon, thank you very much!)

So I recently found myself at the local super market, scoping out the pile of health-nut breads (which you’ll find stacked between the rabbit food and the 100% organic soy milk).

Whilst perusing the loaves, I found one that was made with practically every single whole grain on the planet, was chock full of colon-cleansing goodness, and if you eat it, you’re guaranteed to live forever.

But that’s not the loaf of bread that I bought. My loaf was purchased from an ex-con. And yes, it was very healthy. But it wasn’t the healthiest loaf at the store. And as you’ve probably guessed, I’m certainly not going to live forever after eating a slice (or aaaaaamm I?).

So why did I choose to buy bread from the ex-con? Out of all of the healthy breads I could have pulled off the shelf, why did I choose this one? If it wasn’t because it was the healthiest bread on the shelf (which it wasn’t), then what was it?

Well, maybe it was because…

Reason #2 – I’m a sucker for second chances

What can I say – I love giving people second chances.

Heaven knows I’m not perfect. I’ve made my own fair share of mistakes in my life (none severe enough to land me in the slammer…at least that they know about!)

I think that I deserve second chances. You do too. So why wouldn’t Dave? (that’s the ex-con’s name)

I am always ready to cut a guy (or girl) some slack. Including Dave. Sure, he’s made some mistakes. But he wants a second chance. He NEEDS a second chance. And I was ready to give it to him.

But was my desire to cut the guy some slack the real reason why I pulled that loaf of bread off of the shelf?

Sure, it played into it. But it wasn’t the real reason I bought that loaf of bread. Here’s the real reason:

Reason #3 – It was a compelling story

Everyone is a sucker for a good story. This one was just too juicy to pass up.

I mean, come on – an ex-con spends 15 years in prison and has a rap sheet longer than the last “romantic comedy” I had the misfortune of watching with my wife.

But this ex-con cleans himself up, turns his life around, and not only becomes a productive member of society…

…but he actually goes on a quest “To make the world a better place, one loaf of bread at a time” (his stated vision right on his website).

Not only is this innovative small business entrepreneur trying to keep his nose clean, he’s actually trying to make a difference in people’s lives. So he creates a baked masterpiece of goodness that he’s sharing with anyone who will listen to his story.

Seriously, doesn’t this fairytale have Lifetime written all over it?

Dave’s not trying to hide from his past. Instead, he embraces it, and has woven his checkered past into the fairytale he has crafted around his business.

In fact, his small business IS the story (and the sooner you figure that out, the better).

So Dave doesn’t hide from his past. He prints it loudly and proudly on every bag of “Dave’s Killer Bread”. Don’t believe me? Then head on over to “Whole Foods” and see for yourself.

And while you’re at it, grab yourself a loaf. You’ll be glad you did.

So what’s the strategic marketing secret to convincing a conservative father-of-seven (yes, I said S.E.V.E.N.) to buy a full-blown tree-hugging loaf of bread from an ex-con?

Here’s a hint: It’s all about the story.

And this is the real-life, honest-to-goodness reason why I bought a loaf of bread from an ex-con: Because the fairytale was just so gosh darn compelling.

So ask yourself this – what story are you telling to your customers? Because whether or not you know it…you are telling them a story. And it might not be the story you want them to hear.

So as part of your own strategic marketing plan, be sure to take the time to develop your own fairytale. Your customers want to hear it. And if it’s compelling enough, you just might convince them to buy from you again and again, despite all of your warts.

Do you wonder what the possible outcomes are of creating a truly unique strategic marketing plan? One that is so powerful that it creates a completely unfair competitive advantage?

Small Business Tips: Cashing In On These Three Current Small Business Innovations

So how’s your Crystal Ball working these days? What’s that? You don’t HAVE a crystal ball?

If that’s true, then you are in a whole heap of trouble.

But not to worry - we all have the ability to see the future; some of us just don’t know it yet.

In today’s issue, we discuss why the ability to predict the future is crucial to the success of your business.

And we also discuss three current innovations that are changing not just their own industries, but the global way of doing business - and how you can cash in on them!

The best small business tip that I could give you might just be this one: There is a big difference between a “Good” small business Entrepreneur, and a “Great” one.

A good small business Entrepreneur reacts to changes in their environment or industry. A GREAT Entrepreneur doesn’t need to react, because they can see the future.

This means that Robert Zemeckis must not be a “great” entrepreneur.

So who is Robert Zemeckis? He’s not, as far as I know, a small business owner, and chances are you’ve never heard his name. But you are most likely aware of his work.

He is the director of several outstanding movies, most notably the Back to the Future trilogy. He is widely regarded as a great director and an inventive thinker in the film industry.

So why, then, is he not a great Entrepreneur? Simple. He doesn’t have a crystal ball.

Not too long ago I decided to watch Back to the Future II with my kids. I loved this movie growing up, and thought my kids might like it too.

In this flick, Marty McFly travels to the future, and gets to ride hover-boards, cruise around in flying cars, and see his future self and family.

I loved the creativity in this movie – the hover boards were awesome, the back-straightening robot was a chiropractor’s dream toy, and who doesn’t want a flying car? It was pretty enjoyable to watch this show again after almost 20 years, and I thought the director did a good job of dreaming up the future…

…and then Marty McFly picked up a payphone.

SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH

What? Picked up a pay phone? With all of the crazy amazing inventions this guy dreamed up – flying cars and hoverboards and dehydrated pizzas and robot maids – he couldn’t imagine something as sensible and practical as a cell phone?

Surely he could have imagined that pay phones would be obsolete by 2015…since, well, they pretty much are. (When was the last time YOU went looking for a pay phone?)

Good hell, even the writers for Star Trek dreamed up “communicators”!

Obviously, Robert Zemeckis could make up a future fantasy land – but he didn’t have a crystal ball to show him the future. He dreamed up a bunch of crazy inventions that weren’t practical – but he failed to imagine this one big invention that would revolutionize our lives (and what’s even more head-scratching – it’s something that we actually had the technology for when the film was made!)

Robert Zemeckis doesn’t seem to have it in him to be a “great” entrepreneur. He doesn’t have a crystal ball.

Do you?

The biggest innovations and industry-changing advancements have come from people who could clearly envision the future. These innovators (who are also usually GREAT Entrepreneurs) can see what’s around them, and imagine something better – and then CREATE what they imagine!

And plenty of crystal-ball-carrying Entrepreneurs and small business owners have made fortunes acting quickly when those innovations just start to take hold. (Here’s another big small business tip – be the front runner on new innovations)

If you can’t innovate, or predict which innovations will change the way your customers think or behave, then you are in danger of becoming like the typewriter repairman – i.e. extinct.

The marketplace is changing and evolving every single day. Here are three major recent innovations that are changing the world RIGHT NOW. These are movements that are going to stick. These are innovations that might just force you to change your operating strategies and marketing plans. These are innovations that as a small business owner you cannot afford to ignore.

1. Tablets are the new laptops.

You may have noticed these new-fangled gadgets called “tablets”. Apple popularized the idea, and realizing how revolutionary this product was, Samsung and others quickly jumped on the bandwagon. People have already started to carry them around like day-planners. They are completely replacing peoples’ entire briefcases. And it’s only a matter of time before they make laptops (and maybe even desktops) as we know and “love” them completely obsolete.

Soon enough, if it doesn’t have a screen that you can touch to navigate your way around, and if there’s a keyboard or a mouse attached to it, then no one is going to want it. (“You have to use your HANDS? That’s like a baby toy!” – Classic line from Back to the Future 2)

If you are in the consumer electronics industry, then you are already stocking as many Tablets as you can get your greedy little fingers on. But you might want to think about limiting your order quantity on laptops - unless you want them sitting on your “perpetual clearance rack” next to your portable CD players and Polaroid film.

But there are plenty of ways you can capitalize on this craze from other industries. For example, what if you armed your sales force with tablets? Your company would be seen as a cutting-edge front runner (there’s a lot to be gained by that distinction). Also, these slick little devices have outstanding presentation abilities and applications – improving your overall level of professionalism.

And it won’t be very long before they have built-in projectors, completing their annihilation of laptops (if you don’t believe that, then you probably also didn’t believe that they could fit a whole video recorder inside a teeny little phone either).

2. Smartphones aren’t the wave of the future – they are the wave of RIGHT NOW.

Soon you won’t be able to buy a cell phone that doesn’t come complete with the ability to play Angry Birds, surf the internet, and creep around on Facebook. In fact, it’s been estimated that already as much as 25% of all internet surfing is done on a Smartphone. And this number is going up every day. In fact, there’s a good chance that you’re reading this message right now on your Smartphone.

But unless you’re a cell phone retailer, then you might wonder why this is important to you. Well, if you do any kind of advertising online, then this movement is absolutely CRUCIAL to your future prosperity. Advertising on mobile units is different from standard Internet advertising – and the audience is growing much faster than the number of advertisers are. If I could give just ONE small business tip in this article, it would be this: LEARN HOW TO PROPERLY MARKET YOUR COMPANY ON MOBILE DEVICES!

3. Plugging in instead of filling up.

The Toyota Prius wasn’t the first hybrid – but it’s the car generally credited with starting the Hybrid craze.

The hybrid movement was originally started based on the idea of saving the environment. Green energy nuts and tree huggers ditched their “Shaggin’ Wagons” and immediately gravitated to these gas-sipping vehicles. And with the Prius, the mainstream quickly started to catch on. It wasn’t long before you saw celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz cruising around in the funny looking cars (Prius gets a C- for style).

But hybrids aren’t the future. In fact, hybrids will eventually become as extinct as their gas-guzzling counterparts.

With the release of the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt, the first volley of true mass-market electric cars has been launched. Make no mistake – the alternative energy craze combined with the shrinking supply of our limited fossil fuel resources will absolutely drive more and more companies to come out with their own lines of fully electric vehicles, which will change the industry in the same way that unleaded-fuel-powered vehicles forced out the “regular” crowd.

But that’s not where it will end. Over the course of the next decade or so, there will be a real race to create alternative energy vehicles (instead of the P.R. farce put on by a few auto manufacturers today).

Look for hydrogen powered vehicles to become more popular and economical. Don’t be surprised to see solar powered cars hitting the showroom floor (probably a little more popular in Phoenix than in Seattle).

And a few decades down the road, I fully expect to see (*gasp*) soccer moms shuttling their kids around in Nuclear Powered SUVs.

If you are an auto dealer, your course of action here should be obvious. But what if you’re not? What small business tips could we possibly give to the non-auto-dealer crowds related to Green Machines?

Well, on the small business level, the “Going Green” movement is as much about public relations as anything else. It’s outstanding P.R. to be seen as a company that cares about the environment and conserving natural resources – especially for a small business!

Imagine the positive P.R. that you could generate if your computer repair squad cruised around in fully electric cars rather than gas-guzzlers? What would your customer’s reaction be if their pizza showed up at their door inside a Nissan Leaf instead of a 1997 Corolla?

You could even push the Green Revolution envelope a step farther – by installing wind turbines or solar panels on top of your building, or mandating electronic delivery of invoices (which has the added bonus of saving you quite a bit of cold-hard-cash).

Here were three quick MAJOR examples of innovations changing the entire market – and the way every-day business is conducted - on a wide-scale. But every single day individual industries are being revolutionized. Including your own.

So pull out your crystal ball, and start figuring out where these innovations are going to come from so you can prepare for them. Or better yet, why don’t YOU become the innovator yourself? After all, in business, it’s always better to be forcing the reaction, than doing the reacting!

These are just a few of the many ways that you can give your small business a completely UNFAIR competitive advantage.

Launching a new company takes enormous courage. As an Entrepreneur, you risk your wealth, your reputation, and your very livelihood on something that is, in the beginning, little more than hopes and dreams.

This is why some of the most admired people today are Entrepreneurs. This is why today’s truly great and most famous Entrepreneurs are idolized and emulated.

These brave men and women put everything on the line, and through their ingenuity, creativity, passion, and the sheer force of their will, they create thriving Empires.

But the risks taken by modern-day successful Entrepreneurs are nothing in comparison to those of our Founding Fathers.

With names like Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, and Madison, this small group of rabble-rousers thumbed their nose at the world’s most powerful nation. Doing so, they didn’t just risk their wealth, their lands, their titles, and their reputations. By boldly signing their name to the Declaration of Independence, they risked their very lives.

True, the world has seen many revolutionaries, and bravery is the one common trait that they all share.

But this unique group of great Entrepreneurs had more than just bravery. They shared a unique and clear vision for the future, and they had the passion and the drive to force their vision to become reality, against all odds.

Sound familiar? It should…because these are also traits shared by the world’s great Entrepreneurs.

Consider the world that the Founding Fathers were living in. It was a world dominated by Empires and Monocracies. They didn’t have a current model or a blue print to follow as they set out to form a unique and new nation.

What they were trying to create was something completely new, something totally innovative…something truly revolutionary.

A self-governing people, with a supreme leader (eventually the world’s most powerful leaders) who would willingly relinquish power after no more than 8 years? Leaders of the day couldn’t fathom such a thing. It just didn’t happen.

Today, a truly great Entrepreneur will create an enormous corporation that will revolutionize existing, or even create entirely new industries. They will generate massive fortunes not just for themselves, but for their stock holders, and even for their employees. The companies that they create can sometimes last for hundreds of years.

These are noble Entrepreneurs, and are rightfully admired.

But the Founding Fathers didn’t just create a company. Their goal was much bigger than that – against all odds, they created a nation. A great nation that has stood for over 235 years. They drafted a Constitution that has stood the test of time, and is now the oldest in the world.

They created a country that is the envy of all others. A nation that many have tried unsuccessfully to duplicate. A nation that is so unique and so special that today, almost 250 years later, it is still attracting “huddled masses yearning to be free”.

There are many lessons that can be learned from our Founding Fathers – the greatest and most successful Entrepreneurs in the history of the world. Here are just a few:

1. They had a crystal clear vision.

The Founding Fathers had a dream of a nation free of tyranny and repression. They had a vision of this great nation – they knew what it looked like, what is felt like. They could almost taste it.

That when they started they didn’t know exactly how to get to that point wasn’t important. They knew where they were headed – the visions of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness were ingrained in their minds. And more importantly, they were able to share that vision in such a way that an entire nation could understand and believe in it. The vision of these few leaders became the common vision of a country.

All great Entrepreneurs share this trait. ALL Entrepreneurs have a vision – the truly great Entrepreneurs are able to clearly convey this vision to others, and get them to buy into their vision. That is how the truly great companies, as well as the truly great nations come into being.

If you don’t have a clear vision, then you don’t know where you are going. And if you don’t know where you are going, then how can you expect others to follow your lead?

2. They were extremely courageous.

As you can no doubt imagine, founding a nation takes great courage. Standing up to the armies of the most powerful nation on earth at the time took immense bravery. They knew what the cost of defeat was – and no, it wasn’t just the loss of a vacation home in the Florida Keys. Defeat would cost them all their necks.

Starting and growing your own company also takes incredible courage. Only a very brave person can cut the safety strings of a well-paying 9-5 job. Only a courageous Entrepreneur can go toe-to-toe with the entrenched power brokers in any industry and carve out their own niche. Some of them even come to dominate their industry.

3. They had rock-solid determination.

The Founding Fathers faced incredible odds, and also faced disappointment and discouragement on a regular basis – especially early in the war. But even when things looked the bleakest, they persisted. They had a vision. They had courage. And they had the persistence and drive to see them through to the end.

Your own business is no different. You will have set-backs. You will face discouragement and disappointment. There will be days when you will be tempted to just give up and throw in the towel.

That is what the weak will do. You don’t know any of their names. You only know the names of those who refused to give up. Who fought through adversity. Who battled against disappointment and discouragement. And who eventually created thriving Empires.

4. They worked for the common good.

The Founding Fathers didn’t do all this just for themselves. Their primary goal wasn’t personal glory. They weren’t trying to establish themselves as kings or dictators or emperors. They just wanted to create a free nation that would benefit ALL of its citizens – and would eventually benefit the entire world.

The truly great Entrepreneurs do the same. You can see it in the many multi-millionaires created by their Empires. You can see it in the service they give to their communities. You can see it in their great acts of philanthropy – with people like Gates and Buffet giving the vast majority of their wealth to their charities.

If you try to do everything for yourself, then you’ll be by yourself. No one will follow you – not your employees, and certainly not your customers.

5. They created an environment that produced raving fanatics.

It’s hard to imagine a more fanatical person than a true patriot. And this country is full of them. Hundreds of millions of people today that share one common overwhelming feeling – the love of their country.

If you have read Your UNFAIR Competitive Advantage: “Who Says Competition Has To Be Fair?”, then you already know just what a powerful marketing strategy enhancing your business environment can be. The Founding Fathers were able to enhance the environment of an entire nation. The environment that they created has lasted for over two hundred years.

And this environment still attracts throngs of people. It is still a magnet for the “huddled masses yearning to be free”.

Your company is no different. As you learn about in Your UNFAIR Competitive Advantage, you too can create an environment that is so attractive, so appealing, that people become raving fanatics. You can have your own huddled masses, yearning for outstanding tax preparation, or amazing t-shirt design, or a fantastic cup of coffee.

The secret of the long-term success of America is more than just freedom. The Founding Fathers created an Environment that cannot be duplicated anywhere else. This environment is so unique, so revolutionary, and so compelling, that it has stood for almost 250 years. You can do the same for your company by following what you learn in Your UNFAIR Competitive Advantage.

There is much that can be learned from the Founding Fathers. They really truly are the greatest Entrepreneurs the world has ever known. These are just a few of the many lessons that they teach today’s Entrepreneurs.

I strongly encourage you to study each of their lives individually and collectively. You will be amazed at the number and quality of lessons you will learn, related not only to business, but also to life in general.

I admire each and every one of our Founding Fathers. And in the same way, I admire people like Gates and Dell and Buffet who were able to use the same principles that made the Founding Fathers great to build their own Empires. And who knows…maybe one day your own name will grace this list.

Until Next Time…
