• Is your Office Outlook email program slow to load, when you first open it?

A small internal file used by Outlook may be the culprit.

Renaming this file –causing Outlook to recreate it can often speed up the loading of Outlook.

First, make sure Outlook is closed.

To locate this special file you need to open the store folder as follows:

From My Computer open the following folders:-

Windows 7

My computer>C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Windows XP

C:\Documents & Settings\your username\Local Settings>Application Data\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

There you will see the file called ‘extend.dat’

This is the file causing the speed issue. It’s just a cache index file so don’t worry.

Just RIGHT lick the file and select Rename.

Rename it to extend.old or XXextend.dat and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

Confirm that you really do want to do it.

Now restart Outlook. It should start much quicker.

•    If you get a phone call from someone saying they are from Microsoft and that your PC is infected and they need to scan your system to fix the problem, beware this is a scam –just put the phone down. The caller may even legitimise their information by telling you which version of Windows you have and even give you the serial number of your Windows product (as shown on the Windows label). This is a clever scam and you are pressured to pay them at least $40 by your credit card for the ‘service’. The caller can be very aggressive and tell you that your machine will be ‘locked’ and you will no longer be able to use it if you don’t pay. All of this is a scam. Microsoft don’t have your phone number and NEVER call anyone.

•    If you use online banking beware of a trick on your bank page (yes on your bank page!) that offers you ‘training in an upgraded security system’ –referring to the system of codes you may have to use either by way of a small calculator type machine or a card to generate security codes. Some bank sites have been hacked and this offer is a bogus one by some clever hackers. The scam only affects you if you follow the steps for the training. This is called a MitB attack (or Man in the Browser attack). The balances that are taken from your account as a result of this scam will not show on your screen on that occasion. Are you driving legally in Spain?

Spanish Authorities are clamping down on illegal foreign plated vehicles in Spain and awarding heavy fines for cars that have no road tax or MOT.  The campaign aims to stop tax evasion by foreigners who use their UK registered vehicles on Spanish roads .  Offenders are told to resolve the situation within 5 days or their vehicles are seized and placed at the disposition of the Customs Authorities.   Malaga is the worst offender and since the traffic department began their campaign back in November last year over 200 drivers in the province have been fined.

Subject to conflicting opinion your car can still be insured in Spain without road tax or MOT but legally all owners of UK registered vehicles, if being driven on Spanish roads should have current road British road tax and MOT.   If you have neither then you risk having your car impounded and a heavy fine.
