That makes me so elated as a Chelsea Fan.

Chelsea goalkeeper, Petr Cech, and the deadly Didier Drogba are the two names that Bayern will always dread. But unlike that from GTB which is a Naira Mastercard, theirs is called UBA AFRICACARD and it's a VISA Card. Nevertheless, the card can be used in ATMs, POS and ONLINE.

The good news is 'You don't even need to have an account with the bank before you can get yours'. All you need is an ID Card and passport photograph.

The card will cost you N750 to get. Visit any UBA bank for full details. But, before you go, let me educate you on some very IMPORTANT details that you might not get at the bank.

Like most Prepaid Debit Card, the card comes with two different PINs.

One is for your use at the ATM.

The other is for use ONLINE.

When your application is approved and processed, you will be given an envelope containing your Card. Open the envelope, and check at the bottom right corner of the welcome letter. You will see a TRANSPARENT NYLON COVERING. This is where your two PINs are hidden. You will have to peel off that transparent nylon covering, and please do this by yourself. DO NOT THROW AWAY THAT NYLON COVERING, because that is where your PINs are but you are likely not going to see it.

Immediately after peeling it off, take the nylon covering and then press it against a white paper. you can do this on any white space on your welcome letter. You should now see the PINs but you have to strain your eyes and look closely to see them. Rush to the ATM and change the ATM PIN.

But remember that the ATM PIN is for use only at the ATM, and is entirely different from the WEB PIN. Remember, the two PINs are on that nylon covering, so and please do not throw it away yet.

You can use your WEB PIN to log in into the www.myubaafricard.com, which is the website you use in managing your account. Ask the UBA staff, but I think you can change the WEB PIN at the ATM.The website requires a USERNAME and PASSCODE. The username is the name written on the card, which is your name, without spaces, while the passcode is your WEB PIN.

To load the africard, there is an account number UBA asks you to pay into. All you have to do is go to the person in charge of Africard payment at any UBA Bank branch closest to you and get the details. Just tell any staff in the bank that you want to fund Africard, and you will be directed to the payment point, which should be different from the normal queue at the bank.

Africard is accepted on Facebook, Fiverr, Hostgator, Aliexpress, etc. Also note that whenever you load cash on the card, UBA will charge you N100 (100 Naira). You will also be charged N50 anytime you use the card on UBA ATM for withdrawal. Anytime you transact online with the card, you will also be charged 2.75% of the transaction amount.
For more information subscribe to receive update by email by clicking the link below: Subscribe For Updates by Email

HOW TO SEND JAR FILE FROM YOUR S40 PHONE TO OTHERS

<m:smallfrac m:val="off"> <m:dispdef> <m:lmargin m:val="0"> <m:rmargin m:val="0"> <m:defjc m:val="centerGroup"> <m:wrapindent m:val="1440"> <m:intlim m:val="subSup"> <m:narylim m:val="undOvr"> </m:narylim></m:intlim> </m:wrapindent> </m:defjc></m:rmargin></m:lmargin></m:dispdef></m:smallfrac>

S40 Phones can now send JAR Applications to other phones, just the same way we've been doing it using Xplore on S60 Phones. Any of this version 6.3 | 6.5 | 6.6 | 6.7 | 7.0.
[2.] BT FILE Manager OR Blue FTP
==> You can download them from our Downloading Zone

STEPS
Get these two apps and install on your phone. You will then be able to send jar applications to other Bluetooth Enable Java Phones by following these steps:

[1.] The First Step is to have jar files downloaded with Ucweb browser on your phone. Do not make any change in the file you downloaded with Ucweb browser. Just leave it in the form it was downloaded to your phone.

[2.] Any time you want to share your App with a friend, just open your BT FILE Manager or Bluetooth Ftp and tell your friend to switch On his own bluetooth. With BT File Manager locate the file you want to share on your phone. Mark the file and copy it.

[3.] Then click back option to search for your friend phone. After you have make a connection with him. Locate his folders, and paste the marked file you want to share with him in his application or games folder, NOTE: You can Paste it in any Folder you like.

[4.] Now rename the file you have transfered to that phone from _ jar to .jar
( from underscore jar to dot jar). That file will then change to the application you expected. At first it reads 'invalid file' or unsupported format file. You do not need to panic when you see this happen, just rename the app to dot jar.

[5.] Switch off your phone for some seconds or 1 minute and switch On again. If you click to open the app and your phone ask youto delete the invalid app. After that your phone will on longer complain about the app again. You can now begin to use the application. This trick has been tested and confirmed. Enjoy your trick.

For more information subscribe to receive update by email by clicking the link below: Subscribe For Updates by Email

GIZMODO writes How Yahoo KILLED Flickr and Lost the Internet

I just stumbled on an article on Gimodo about "How Yahoo KILLED Flickr and Lost the Internet" and I recommend it greatly. This eye-opening article tells more than the story it started. It explains how the transactions are made in an acquisition. For instance, I never knew that he full acquisition sum is not paid. a major part of the sale money is tied to some terms drafted by the big company trying to acquire the smaller one. Above all, this especially caught my attention and I quote from that post:

As a result of being resource-starved, Flickr quit planting the anchors it needed to climb ever higher. It missed the boat on local, on real time, on mobile, and even ultimately on social—the field it pioneered. And so, it never became the Flickr of video; YouTube snagged that ring. It never became the Flickr of people, which was of course Facebook. It remained the Flickr of photos. At least, until Instagram came along.
Read the full article here: www.Gizmodo.com
For more information subscribe to receive update by email by clicking the link below: Subscribe For Updates by Email

DSTV Mobile: How To Get It On Your Phone

DSTV Mobile subscription has picked up again with so many fans of the world famous Big Brother Africa TV Show airing on premium TV. I have dusted my Nokia N96, and have re-inserted my sim for subscription already. If you are looking for a phone that can give you the DSTV mobile service, you may want to see the DSTV Mobile page by clicking here: DSTV Mobile

Just note that DSTV is only available in some States of the Federation for now. With time, it will expand to accomodate other states.

DSTV Mobile is here Nigeria. With the service, Nigerians no longer need to worry about missing their favourite DStv programmes, news, live football matches, including all matches of the FIFA World Cup because DStv Mobile would give you the same value you could get from the TV edition of DSTV.

The advantage of subscribing to DStv Mobile is that no matter where you are, as long as you are connected to the DStv Mobile, you will not miss anything. DStv Mobile is not exactly a new service. It was initially launched in 2007 but with FIFA World Cup around the corner, Multichoice (operators of DStv) found a need to re-launch the DStv Mobile service. The re-launch is borne out of a collaboration between DStv, MTN (Africa’s leading telecom operator) and Nokia (world leading mobile phone manufacturer).

The technology behind DStv Mobile is simple enough. The Mobile TV service is not streamed over the internet. Though one of the promises of 3G was Mobile TV, streaming live TV over the internet turned out to be impractical. Pushing a data-intensive service over a cellular network would simply result in a very congested network. Broadcasting mobile TV over the airwaves is much more efficient and cost-effective. In comes DVB-H. I summarized the following DVB-H definition from Wikipedia:

DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld) is one of three prevalent mobile TV formats. It is a technical specification for bringing broadcast services to mobile handsets. From March 2008, DVB-H is officially endorsed by the European Union as the “preferred technology for terrestrial mobile broadcasting”. DVB-H technology is a superset of the very successful DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial) system for digital terrestrial television, with additional features to meet the specific requirements of handheld, battery-powered receivers.

Getting on board
DStv Mobile - The new 'watch wherever you are' broadcast
television service can be accessed by a number of DVB-H enabled cellphones and Wi-Fi enabled devices - is set to change the way viewers catch their favourite DStv shows.

If you do not have a DVB-H enabled phone, DStv Mobile can be accessed using the Drifta mobile decoder that is compatible with cellphones, laptops, smartphones and tablets. Subscribers can stay current with sports, news and entertainment, wherever they go.

DVB-H enabled phones are available from Mobile Network Operators. Drifta mobile decoders are available from MultiChoice branches.

Get the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition from any Nokia dealer.

If you are not in Nigeria, Click this link: DSTV Mobile For Other Countries. But if you are in Nigeria, continue reading below

    Nigeria DVB-H Coverage in cities
DSTV Mobile is only available in the following cities for now:

Aba

Abuja

Asaba

Benin

Enugu

Ibadan

Kaduna

Lagos

Onitsha

Port Harcourt

READ ALSO:

DSTV Mobile Channels

DSTV Mobile Subscription Plans

DSTV Mobile Drifta

For more information subscribe to receive update by email by clicking the link below: Subscribe For Updates by Email

Read Search Nigeria Constitution on Your Phone

Nigerian Consitution on Phone is a very good initiative. The Nigerian constitution for all project has made it easy for Nigerians to be aware of their rights, as well be better law-abiding. They achieved this by creating the Nigerian Constitution app. This initiative should help tackle the knowledge gap prevalent amongst citizens.

It's a laudable initiative because most Nigerians wield at least a Java-Enabled Handset. By making the constitution easily accessible to most Nigerians via their mobile devices (including feature phones), ignorance will soon become a thing of the past as most people should now be able to tell where their right starts and stops. Up to 80,000 downloads have been recorded to date.

Blackberry Edition
Download the Nigerian Constitution App on your blackberry phone. A Facebook friend asked me to help him out. If you've got an T-Mobile MDA or a Cingular 8125, or any other flavor of phone running on the HTC Wizard platform, you can now unlock (and alternatively relock) the simlock on your phone so that you can switch GSM carriers at will by simply swapping sim chips/cards, here's a guide to unlocking your phone so you don't have to buy a new one. This same technique has been tested on various devices and certified to work.

This article is based on the brilliant work of some developers in the XDA developers community.

Warning: Remember that unlocking your device voids its warranty, or worse, it may make your phone inoperable. You do this at your own risk!

You may leave your SIM inside the device performing the following unlocking instruction.

Download and Unzip lokiwiz2b.zip (click to download) to your computer.

Sync Your Device With Your PC using Microsoft ActiveSync.

Copy EnableRapi.cab from the lokiwiz2b Folder to your Wizard (using ActiveSync, ensure a connection is working and then just dragged the .cab file from the lokiwiz folder on the PC to the "files" folder shown on the sync window)

Run the EnableRapi.cab in your phone, and wait for it to finish (you'll be prompted to confirm its installation) At the end you should get the message: "EnableRapi.cab was successfully installed on your device."

Confirm that your phone is still connected via ActiveSync with your PC.

Run lokiwiz.bat on your computer by clicking on it and follow the instructions on your screen (this will execute on DOS command prompt)

Type U and hit the Enter key. You should see the following message: Unlocking mobile... DO NOT DISCONNECT UNTIL THE PHONE REBOOTS!

That's it! The device should reboot when the PC finishes it's magic. And you're good to go. There is also a version for android devices.

Mobile Guard is designed to provide boot acceleration. It's also improves your mobile phone performance by removing junk, minimizing power consumption and protecting your mobile phone against malware (just like an antivirus).

It also has Call/Message filter. This keeps calls and messages from black-listed numbers away. You can reject and filter these by selecting or customizing the rejection mode to protect you from spam messages and unwanted calls.

It also helps manage internet usage with monthly limits, a connection log, and even a real-time traffic bar with rainbow-colored that keeps you aware of how much traffic is used anytime and anywhere.

To download this app, visit the download page from a PC at http://www.netqin.com/en/guard/download/, select your device and hit the download button. This includes carrying out two-way transactions (Sending/Receiving) from your account through the use of the internet, and your Bank's website.

Internet Banking is however as safe as you want it to be. There are some precautionary measures and all you need do is just heed all necesary security cautions as relates to your ATM and account details and ensure you have personal internet access on ur phone or PC. Well, nothing is safe anywhere in the world, and as an IT Professional, my advice to you is: Safeguard Yourself with the Necessary Information.

That's what I have come to share with you: Useful Information On Internet Banking Security. Here they come:

Make sure you have good antivirus software on your PC. And, always update your antivirus software.

Asides your Primary Bank Account, Create one auxiliary account. Grant your ATM access to ONLY the Primary Bank Account. Then, keep most of your money in the Auxiliary Account.

If possible, use very long complex Username and Password.

Don't respond to email from the bank or any such emails that claim to emanate from your bank.

Know your bank's secured web address (starts with HTTPS:// and always use same whenever you want to access the website. For instance, when accessing GTB, I will use https://www.gtbank.com

Type your Bank's Secure Website link in the Address Bar every time you are accessing. Don't search on Google as many would do.

Don't access your Account from public internet services like Cafe, or Office. Always do this from home PC. With Nigerian banks bringing Token into there banking system, internet banking is becoming a lot safer than ever before.

Remember, don't share your ATM password with anybody, even your Bank Staff, or even the manager.

I use GTB, and as far as I can tell, their internet banking is secure, and by using it, you don't have to frequent the banking hall just to make minor transactions. You simply do the transactions online.

For more information subscribe to receive update by email by clicking the link below: Subscribe For Updates by Email

Laptops For Sale Nigeria Brand New, Used, Refurbished

Laptop marketplaces are hard to find for most Nigerians, but there is one of note. To OS 6?" So I thought, why not write about it. I went searching and here is what I discovered.

Requirements

Your Blackberry Device

Your Personal Computer

Blackberry Device Manager

Active Blackberry Internet Subscription

If you don't have the Blackberry Device Manager, click the link below to read more about how to download Blackberry Device Manager

Steps To Download The OS Update
Follow these simple instructions:

From your PC, Click here: http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

Click your Blackberry Service Provider. For instance, if you are in Nigeria, click either Airtel Nigeria or Etisalat Nigeria or Globacom Nigeria or MTN Nigeria. Then Click Next.

Click the Combo Box on the Next Page to Select Your Device Name. Then Click Next.

Download the OS for your BB Unit by clicking the Download Link for the appropriate Version.

You will be be presented a form. Fill and hit the Submit button.

You will be presented a warranty, read, agree and click Next button.

Click the download button. Then wait for the Software Update to fully download to your PC hard drive.

On your BB Device, go to Options > Device > About. What is the OS release stated on the third line down?

Steps To Install The Software Update On Your BB Device

After the download of the more than 100MB update file, you need to install it on your BB Device. Here is how to do that:
Connect Your

Extract or install the downloaded OS file from the Previous Step on your PC.

They will automatically install into the correct location. This location will be C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files. Under this directory you will see directories with the model number of your device (if you installed the correct files) followed by the OS version number. Under these directories will be a host of .alx and .cod files. Do not modify or delete these files. They are needed to install the new OS.

Using the USB Cord, connect your Blackberry Device to your PC. I assume the BlackBerry Device Manager is installed on your PC.

When you plug your device in, a popup will appear and ask if you want to upgrade your device.

Choose Upgrade and follow the steps given by the Application Loader.

If you have any 3rd party applications you would like to keep, locate and select them at this time to avoid having to reload them after the new OS is installed.

The apploader will also ask if you want to erase all data and reload or backup and restore the data on your device. Choose your preference and Continue.

Typically a complete OS reload with backup and restore can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes depending on the amount of data on your device to restore.

The apploader will inform you when the process is complete. After this, the device will automatically reset itself (sometime this will take longer than a normal reboot) and once completed and on, your device will be upgraded and ready to go.

Have fun and enjoy!

For more information subscribe to receive update by email by clicking the link below: Subscribe For Updates by Email

List Of Blackberry Phones with Common Names

Blackberry phones seem to take on some names that I don't know where it came from. These names could sometimes be confusing because the original makers of Blackberry hardly call the devices by those names. Take for instance, Bold 5 is the common name for Blackberry Bold 9900.

While I don't know how come about these common names, I'm aware that they were coined to make it easier for consumers to call/identify these devices, rather than using the long Model Names. What I do know is that these common names make life a whole lot easier when it comes to naming Blackberry devices.

I have chosen to give you a list of these blackberry names and their common names. Although it's incomplete for now, you can still find these few useful for now, and in case you know anyone I don't know for now, kindly tell me so I can include it.

Model No.

Common Name

BlackBerry Bold 9000

Bold 1

Blackberry Bold 9700

Bold 2

Blackberry Bold 9650

Bold 3

Blackberry Bold 9780

Bold 4

Blackberry Bold 9900

Bold 5

Blackberry Curve

Curve 1

Blackberry Curve 8520

Curve 2

Blackberry Curve 9300

Curve 3G

Blackberry Curve

Curve 4

Blackberry Javelin 8900

Javelin

Blackberry Storm

Storm 1

Blackberry Storm 9550

Storm 2

Blackberry Storm

Storm 3

Blackberry Pearl 9105

Pearl 3G

Blackberry Tour 9630

Tour 1

Blackberry Torch 9800

Torch 1

Blackberry Torch 9810

Torch 2

Blackberry Porsche 9981

Porsche

If you know anyone that I don't know for now, please add it in the comment box below.
For more information subscribe to receive update by email by clicking the link below: Subscribe For Updates by Email

Netbook (Mini) Laptops with 5 Hour Battery

Netbooks are expected to provide enough power to the user when not close to an electricity source, hence one with a long-lasting battery will be a jewel.

I have put together here a list of laptops with long-lasting batteries, and I was especially concerned with the ones that has battery longevity of 5 hours or more. When browsing on my PC with my modem, I hardly spent enough time when the Data will be completely used up. I later got to find out the reason: I'm not the only one browsing, even some softwares are busy browsing! LOL!!!

Browsing the internet with a modem usually comes with limited data cap size that costs so much, and needs to be managed effectively if you want to enjoy the internet connection for so long. Here is what you need to do to reduce your data usage and ensure it lasts for you.

Turn Off Windows Update: Windows Update will always try to connect to Microsoft website and download recommended updates. I turned this off because it usually uses up a large chunk of my 1 GB of Data subscription. The difference between these two is only in the packaging; one packages with plastic bottles whereas the other packages with polyethylene sachets otherwise referred to as cellophane/nylon bags.

Update April 2012: For a more up-to-date article on Sachet/Bottled Water Business, and for the Bottled Water business plan, feasibility study and guide, please check my website on http://www.nairaman.com/bottled-water-business.html

Irrespective of source or packaging, without adequate clean water one suffers dehydration and eventual death. Water provides the medium in which all biochemical reactions take place. Pure portable water is very essential for healthy living. It has no substitute. The only way to produce this pure water is via treatment.

The demand for safe drinking water in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, considering the inability of the governments to provide adequate pipe borne water to a major chunk of the populace.

Up till the late 90s, the most popular way of packaging water was hand-tied cellophane sachets of tap water usually called "pure water” and sold for N1.00. Though this aspect of packaging water is simpler, cheaper and enhances easy entry and exit, provided higher turnover because of the cheapness of the products, it was been abused by a lot of people.

At the turn of the new millenium, a more organized means of production of pure water emerged and gradually took over: although this time with sealed polyethylene sachet type of packaging, it inherited pure water as its name from the older means which shortly disappered. All this while, the bottled water brands like SWAN Spring Water were in existence but since its cost was out of reach of the poor majority, pure water became the new order.

Well-packaged water in these plastic bottles or food-grade polyethylene sachets has so far become a ready alternative for the growing population of over 150 million people. Pure packaged water attracts patronage from hotels, schools, market places, hospitals, stadiums etc. No doubt water has been found to be the fastest selling commodity in Nigeria today.

Considering the increasing need for good quality drinking water packaged under very stringent hygienic condition as well as the the costly effect of water borne diseases like craw-craw, worm infections, water blindness, dysentery, diarrhea, typhoid fever, cholera to mention but few, it becomes paramount to go for clean (pure) water packaging business to deliver Nigerians this high-demand product called Pure Water in local parlance.

From the above, investment into innovative purification and packaging of portable (colorless, odorless and tasteless) drinking water has turned out a very lucrative business.

Pure Water Sealing Machine

Pure Water Sterilizing Sytem For Killing Germs

Pure Water Filters

Presently a plastic bottling can for pure water production is taking over. This is found to be more lucrative too. This is because not every investor can invest on it like ordinary nylon/cellophane packaging of water. All attention is shifting to the plastic bottled water. The plant can be set up at any part of the country. The plant consists of water treatment plant made up of seal sedimentation, tank, filters, suction pump, alpha chambers, pressure gauge and stainless tank and tama flow 700 and industrial purification system. This machine incorporates from consecutive operations-pre-filters, activated carbon, polisher and ultra violet sterilizer. It also has v/v designed for 30-3 L/min maximum flow rate, 60 PSIG Max pressure, 220 V/50 Hz voltage, 254-barometer wavelength lamp and 99per cent bacteria elimination rate.

The plant can produce 30 liters of well-purified water per minute. This implies that it can purify about 14,400 liters of water per shift of 8 hours.

The writer will educate prospective investors more on contacting him for procurement and installation. There must be water purity testing machine to make sure that the water is germ free.

Finally corking machine is needed.

RAW MATERIALS
The raw materials for this project are water, plastic cans and water treatment chemicals such as Ozone, etc. All these are locally available in Nigeria plastic making companies. The chemicals are all available in Nigeria. The water could be obtained regularly either from borehole or natural spring water. In the absense of natural spring, drilling of a borehole fitted with a submersible water pump at the site should suffice.

Production techniques are very easy. It involves rust removal, filtration to produce clear, colorless, tasteless drinking water. The chemicals are added to clear any bacteria and germ free from the water. The water is then filled in the bottle, corked and ready for sale.

Prospective investor must have a decent building walled and painted with very clean environment, if he must obtain the NAFDAC approval to be business.

From study also carried out the project can be started with the sum of 3.6 million for set up of sachet water producing and N9.6 million for automated bottling/sacheting plant. The cost breakdown is shown below:

Financial projection

,000

,000

Preliminary Expenses

100

100

Plant & Machinery

1,300

5,000

Accommodation

550

550

Motor Vehicle

500

1,500

Operational Expenses

600

2,000

Contingencies

270

500

Total

3,600

N9,650

The new dimension of water bottling, with 20-liter dispenser and bottle racks is also very lucrative and can be incorporated into this project plan.

The project gross profit margin for the project is worked out as N9.7 million in the first year and N14.27 million in the fifth year. Projected operating costs for the first year is N1.140 million and N1.519 million in the 5th year.

When the operating costs are deducted the investor would be recording N6.096 million in the first year and N9.030 million in the fifth year.
It is very lucrative business. The writer can assist prospective investors to conduct comprehensive and bankable feasibility studies, assist in sourcing the required funds and procurement and installation of a well tested, NAFDAC approval plants and machinery.

BOTTLED WATER PACKAGING
The following is a bottled water service delivery business guide to help new entrepreneurs establish their own business.

Water packaging business provides packaged water products to quench the daily thirst of people. This business is an evergreen type because it will continue to be relevant as long as there is human civilisation. Even as you read this piece, you might be sipping a packaged water product.

Start-up cost as low as N10 million or more depending on the size of investment

Potential first year earnings: N8 million.

Breakeven time from initial investment: very rapid (can be between 2 to 3 years)

Future growth potential: Very high

Dynamic, fast-growing industry

Possible for small business or cooperative-based organisations

Not much staffing required especially at the beginning

I met a charming lady some years back who confided in me that she wanted to start a business after having been involved in contract jobs for quite a while. She had read an article I wrote for a women magazine that period and was fired up to do something with her life, beyond seeking and getting contracts. She had some money with her and needed just some form of moral and professional support to start. In my first discussions with her, after she had narrated her desire to me, I remembered telling her that business is not normally imposed.

If it has ever happened that way, it would be an exception and not the rule. Whatever business you intend starting must come from within you. It must stir you up from the inside. However, you can also get some insight into what kind of business to go into by reading up on sample businesses like the series we are running now. In fact, as one professional put it, “Many individuals are not really sure of what business to start – but they know they’re in love with the concept of entrepreneurship. If you aren’t positive which business to start, don’t apologise: As long as you pour the same enthusiasm into a venture once you pick your star, you can be as successful as the individual who always knew which field to enter.”

The demand for clean water has been increasing steadily for the last couple of decades. This is due to the rising concern for chemicals and other impurities that may be present in tap water. With many people becoming more and more health-conscious, the bottled water industry became one of the most profitable businesses today.
Accordingly, the following are some helpful tips on how to establish a bottled water delivery service biz.

Decide What Type of Bottled Water Delivery Service Biz to Establish
There are different types of water bottled and sold to consumers. These are the spring water, purified water and distilled water. Pure spring water is collected from springs and wells and bottled at source. Purified drinking water on the other hand, comes from a process called reverse osmosis to remove dissolved minerals. Lastly, distilled water also removes dissolved minerals through vaporization and condensation of water.
Next is to decide what type of water bottle to sell. There is the individual bottled water and the large bottled water, usually containing 5 gallons. The large bottles are usually preferred in households and offices because it is cheaper. With this type of service, it is necessary to invest in water cooling units, which can be rented along with the bottled water sold.

Study the Market of Bottled Water Delivery Service Business
The next thing to do is to asses the market. Decide first where to start a bottled water delivery service biz. Take into consideration the target consumers and the prevailing bottled water delivery service biz competitors to know the profitability of the business.
It is important to select an area to startup a bottled water delivery service biz where there are few competitors and many possible clients. The usual bottled water delivery service biz clients are households and offices. These consumers prefer bottled water delivery service that is closest to them, which is more convenient and most of the time, provides better and prompt service.

Bottled Water Delivery Service Business License
Last but not the least is to secure a license from the proper authorities. Compliance with the law is essential in any business establishment. This is to maximize the benefits of the bottled water delivery service business.Visit the NAFDAC office in your State to find out more.

Background to water packaging business
The Earth has 1,386,000,000 km3 of water total but only 2.5 percent of that is fresh water (i.e. 35,029,000 km3 or 9,254,661,800 gallons of fresh water).

Why is fluid important?
Water is essential for the growth and maintenance of our bodies and is an important component in the diet. The British Dietetic Association guidelines state that an average adult should consume 2.5 litres of water of which 1.8 litres (or 5 x 330 ml cans; 7 x 250 ml glasses) must be in fluid form, the remainder being obtained from foods. For children to maintain their correct water level of 60-70% body weight, they need to consume up to 2 litres of fluid every day. This intake needs to be increased during periods of hot weather or during and after periods of physical activity in order to avoid dehydration.

What are the effects of dehydration?
Dehydration is caused by consuming too little fluid and can cause symptoms such as headaches, tiredness and loss of concentration. Adults eliminate around 2.5 litres of water per day, through urine, perspiration and respiration. In children, this varies greatly according to the outside temperature, age and activity level of the child, as well as other factors. Children do not instinctively drink enough to replenish the fluids lost during prolonged activity or play periods and evidence has shown that they consequently become dehydrated. Research has shown that children are more likely to drink sufficient liquid to replace lost fluids and maintain hydration during activity when presented with flavoured beverages.

Packaged Water Products
Water is classified as bottled water or sachet water (pure water) if it meets all applicable standards, is sealed in a sanitary container/package and is sold for human consumption. Bottled/sachet water cannot contain sweeteners or chemical additives (other than flavours, extracts or essences) and must be calorie-free and sugar-free. Flavours, extracts and essences, derived from spice or fruit, can be added to bottled water, but these additions must comprise less than one percent by weight of the final product. Beverages containing more than the one-percent-by-weight flavour limit are classified as soft drinks, not packaged water. In addition, packaged water may be sodium-free or contain “very low” amounts of sodium. Some packaged waters contain natural or added carbonation.

Water Purification Technology
The packaged water business requires a high level of water purification so consumers’ health wouldn’t be compromised for monetary considerations. I’ll advise those already in this business and those venturing into it to utilise the latest water purification system called Reverse Osmosis Purification System. This system removes all contaminants, odour, harmful chemicals, volatile organic compounds, and totally dissolves solids and pathogens. It is found out now that chlorinated water is carcinogenic. The US Council of Environmental Quality says that the risk of having cancer is 93% high among people who drink water treated with chlorine. Gradually, concerns are being raised as to the hazards created by chlorine-treated water as research now shows that not only does chlorinated water cause cancer, it also leads to immune system impairment, diabetes, neurotoxicity, birth defects, decreased fertility, hormonal imbalances and reproductive dysfunction in men and women. It is therefore of utmost importance that those going into or already in the packaged water business should mind the health of our people and upgrade their technology, totally eliminating the use of chlorine as is now done by the Coca-Cola company in Europe, Namibia and the US and some other parts of the world.

Target Market for Packaged Water Products
The target market for packaged water products includes everyone, from the young to the old. It covers:

School children

Workers

Schools

Business places

Worship centres

Marketplaces

Eateries, posh and local restaurants

Formal Gatherings and events

Parties and celebrations

Technical and Other Requirements
Organisations that are into packaged water are to seek registration with The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), which is the regulatory agency in the country that monitors and controls the food and drugs sector. NAFDAC insists that water and water base industries must not be close to a cemetery, abattoir, petrol station, refuse dump, sewage system, saw mill, etc. Owners of this business need to get clearance from NAFDAC before commencing production. The technical and business architecture of the business will determine the overall success of the business. For instance, in this business, the owner needs bottling/sacheting water machines, a factory environment for production, cloak room, packaging material room, finished product room, a water treatment plant (using preferably Reverse Osmosis Purification System), borehole or a water source, and so on.

Income Potentials
Let’s take for instance Lagos state with an unofficial population of about 18 million people (from the Lagos state website). If 85% of this number patronise packaged water products, what we have will be 15.5 million potential customers. If 75% of this market take sachet water, then the number comes to approximately 12 million, while 3.5 million represent those who take bottled water. If your business captures 1% of the sachet water market, you will be serving 120,000 customers. If every day, each one takes 3 sachets of water on the average, we are talking about 360,000 sachets. Since a bag of sachet water contains 20, this means you’ll be selling 18,000 sachet water bags daily. If the cost of producing a bag is N40 and you’re giving it out at N55, you’ll be making N15 per bag as profit and N270,000 daily. For a 24-working day period in a month, you will be talking about N6.48million as profit monthly and N58.32 million for a 9-month business year (factoring in the rainy season). If you achieve 50% of your income potential in the first year, you’ll be talking about N29 million profit. I have not worked out the income and returns on bottled water.

I believe that by now you have got a clearer view of what's involved in the water packaging business, but like I stated earlier, I have prepared the Water Business Startup Kit, which is a series of documents to help with planning the setup of your water company:

Sachet Water Guide: In this report, you will find pictures of an existing Pure Water company demonstrating the processes involved. You can download the preview version of this at Box.com

Packaged Water Business Plan: This is a complete business plan that can help with the planning of your business

Packaged Water Feasibility Study: This document is normally used by investors/banks to judge how profitable a business venture will be. It comes with an Excel Spreadsheet so you can change figures you want to. This is your best asset in planning your business.

Packaged Water Machines Guide: This will give you the quotation for Water Treatment Plant, Bottled Water Plant and The Form, Fill and Seal Sachet Water Machine. It includes the prices, pictures and specifications. This book also pictures the materials needed in the production process.

Price: N 10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira 0nly)
To order for the Water Startup Kit, please print or copy out the following bank details:

Bank:

Guaranty Trust Bank

Account Name:

Chinyeaka John Onam

Account Number:

00 2238 1032

If you need the Full Business Plan and for further inquiries, you can call JOHN on 0706 318 9585.

JAMB Direct Entry (DE) Form Registration Information

JAMB Direct Entry (DE) form is now on sale for those who want to apply for the 2012 Direct Entry admission into Universities. Normally, the startup capital are in multiples of millions especially due to the hurdles that have to be taken care of as well as the assets that are to be put in place. Here, I have researched and put together some information to help entrepreneurs in finding out what is necessary in setting up a fuel filling station business.

From my research, there are basically two options that one can pick from when setting up a fuel filling station:

Build A New One

Franchise With Existing Companies

Out of the two options mentioned above, Franchise requires less startup cost, but just as with any other business, reserves little control for the franchisee (which is the entrepreneur wishing to start the business). I would however give a fair analysis of both options and leave you to make your choice.

BUILD A NEW ONE
Here, you start from scratch and create your own brand, and fuel station business. That means that every conceivable cost is to be borne solely by the entrepreneur.

Here are some possible considerations:

Road-Side Property: Land, either leased or if available, rented on a (very) busy road. Not usually less than 2 plots of land, according to IPMAN regulations in some states. If you want 6 nozzles, you definitely need 2 plots or more. Also note that there are 4, 3, 2, nozzle types depending on how busy you assess the location of your station. If it is yet to be purchased, this could cost minimum of 25 million Naira, and depends on the site of the property. Remember to budget for extra costs associated with land acquisition.

Size/Capacity of the Filling Station Storage: The underground tanks is estimated at 1.5 million Naira each for a 45,000 litre tank - and that is for a basic tank, not Double Shell like is used in Total. The underground tank can cost you 4.5 to 5.5 million naira for 4 (1 Kerosine, 1 Diesel and 2 for Fuel). Depending the quality/size you want and the workmen involved though.

Dispensing pumps: Dispensing pumps cost from 0.5 - 2 million Naira, depending on the brand - Marathon to Wayne.

Transportation Tanker: You might need around 10 to 12m long, 11,000 litres tanker, and you need at least 2. The small one cost around 5 to 6.5 million Naira.

Construction Cost: 6 nozzles is the highest you can go. For a 6 Nozzle Station (4 Petrol, 1 Kerosene, 1 Diesel): N30,000,000.

Approved Drawing for Filling Station: N1,150,000.

Union Fees: Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria IPMAN Approval and Site Registration: N1,200,000, that is about One Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira Only.

Civil Engineering Cost: N4,000,000 for the project.

Legal Consideration: When seeking for your approval, don't waste your time with a lawyer, find an IPMAN insider, or your approval wont come out until 2050.

The above is totally estimated at 70 million Naira. Also you need to consider other associated costs like that of supply, marketing. Kindly note these and do your research.

You need a vault for the tanks and the vault depends on the terrain: waterlogged, semi waterlogged, dry.

Canopy cost from 5 million Naira depending on the land area.

Piping can either be done with galvanised iron, or flexible plastic piping which is the standard.
Fire extinguishers. Floodlights, you can buy the cheap failure prone Olympia at 11k /unit, or original floodlights which cost from 30-60k.You need plenty of electrical cables. Canopy lights - genuine canopy lights are at least 65/unit

If you intend to host an eatery in your station, then you need a transformer.

Most importantly, you need to engage a professional, or you may wind up doing things three times. And considering the huge cost involved, it would be a wise decision on your part.

FRANCHISE WITH MAJOR MARKETER
Alternatively, you can own a filling station by renting or leasing from a major marketer. This way, you don't have to spend as much as mentioned above. Also, you don't have to worry about loading products from the depot. Major marketers include Oando, AP, MRS, etc. All in all 20 million Naira should do it with the bulk of the cost being rent which could be for as much as 50 yrs or short lease of 2years. You may meet someone running a station for any major marketer. If everything goes as planned, you will get up to 4 filling stations this way with the same amount of money it takes you to build one from scratch. Business is not an issue of owning, but controlling especially when the project is capital intensive.

For more information subscribe to receive update by email by clicking the link below: Subscribe For Updates by Email

Cheap Solar Home System

Solar panels, also known as photovoltaics convert the sun's energy (solar energy) into electricity. They usually come in different voltage, wattage and size.
Solar panel can only supply electricity when the day breaks. Now you may be asking, what about the night time? That is taken care of by a battery bank, which is usually a series of interconnected batteries that store charge for later use.
True Sine-wave Solar inverters are used to convert the 18v/36v DC solar output power into AC 220v/240v.
Solar charger controllers are used to control the solar panel, inverter and also prevent the battery from overcharging. The same happened with Call Tarrifs when GSM came to Nigeria, when we were charged per minute from the very first second. That all changed when Glo Nigeria stepped in with the Per Second Billing.

This time around, MTN want to lead the way with it's super cheap internet plan known as Simple Surf. Don't worry, I will tell you why this is the best.

The disadvantage of the MTN Mobile Internet and Fastlink usage is definitely its Data bundle Limitations (100MB, 3GB etc). Users often exceed their data limits before its expiry date even without downloading any file - Its just annoying when you subscribe for a 250MB plan at N1300 and its finished within 1 week. The New MTN SIMPLE SURF plan seems to be a solution to the data limit problems.

This is not really a first as Starcoms and others have similar hourly plans but their service coverage is very limited. About MTN Nigeria Simple Surf Plan The New MTN simple surf is Charged HOURLY instead of amount of data used, this gives users total control of their time and amount spent online. You can subscribe to MTN Simple surf from as low as 2 hours to send or receive an email, download a file, or video chat with a friend. Since it has a 2 days validity - you can use 1 hour, Logout and use the remaining hour the next day.
You might also choose the 300 hours plan to use at the office everyday (12 hours a day) - which will likely last over a month.

MTN Nigeria Simple surf subscription activation codes:
To subscribe for Any of the MTN Simple surf packages below, Text the Required code to 131

2 HOURS at N250 - TEXT 2H to 131 (2days Validity)

20 HOURS at N1,500 - TEXT 20H to 131 (7 Days Validity)

100 HOURS at N5,000 - TEXT 100H to 131 (30 Days Validity)

300 HOURS at N13,000 - TEXT 300H to 131 (90 Days Validity)

NOTE: To save hours - Remember to Disconnect Your Modem while not in use.. or turn off Your Edge / 3G on mobile when not needed.

Please Note: There is a bandwith limit on this plan though. So, I would encourage you to start with the cheapest ones and upgrade as you use to see for yourself.

For more information subscribe to receive update by email by clicking the link below: Subscribe For Updates by Email
