- Horizon Air cements its standing as largest operator of Q400 turboprops worldwide with 51 aircraft; becomes first commercial carrier to operate the aircraft in Alaska

- Q400 NextGen aircraft receives Transport Canada certification for RNP AR 0.3

PARIS, FRANCE–(Marketwired / Asianet-Pakistan – June 19, 2013) – Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Seattle-based Horizon Air has signed a firm contract to acquire three 76-seat Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprop airliners. The transaction represents the conversion of three previously booked options on the aircraft. The airline also reconfirmed its options on another seven Q400 NextGen aircraft.

Based on the list price of the Q400 NextGen aircraft, the contract announced today is valued at approximately $98 million US.

The three new aircraft will increase Horizon Air’s orders for Q400 and Q400 NextGen airliners to 51 aircraft – the world’s largest fleet. Including the order announced today, Horizon Air has ordered a total of 100 Bombardier Dash 8/Q-Series aircraft since 1985.

“This aircraft order represents a significant milestone for Horizon and our employees, who have dedicated themselves to transforming our business and enabled us to grow,” said Glenn Johnson, Horizon Air President. “The addition of these three Q400 NextGen aircraft will allow us to venture into the state of Alaska, which is considered America’s last frontier and is now an exciting new frontier for Horizon.”

“Our Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft remain North America’s preferred turboprop because they provide the best combination of fuel efficiency and productivity in their class,” said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “Airlines that operate these aircraft successfully deploy them in a wide range of markets, from typical short-haul turboprop markets to longer-haul operations where they complement, and in some cases replace, jet aircraft.

“Horizon Air has been a Bombardier customer since 1985 when it ordered its first 10 37-seat Dash 8-100 airliners,” added Mr. Arcamone. “We are thrilled that the airline is returning to order more Q400 aircraft – a superb testament to the flexibility and reliability of the aircraft.”

Bombardier also announced that Transport Canada has certified the Q400 aircraft for the advanced navigation capability of Required Navigation Performance AR 0.3 (RNP AR 0.3). The Q400 aircraft offers the most advanced navigation capabilities in the regional airline market. Horizon Air’s Q400 aircraft are equipped with Head-up Guidance Systems (HGS) for all weather operations; Wide Area Augmentation Systems (WAAS) with approach guidance (LPV) for ILS-like landing minima at remote runways; and RNP AR 0.3 to fly curved approaches to airports in difficult terrain. The unmatched capability to land and take off at challenging runways in unsettled weather is another benefit of the Q400 aircraft.

Including the order announced today, Bombardier has booked firm orders for 471 Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft. Worldwide, Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft have transported more than 243 million passengers and have logged over 4.2 million flight hours and more than 4.5 million take-offs and landings. The Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft program includes some 50 operators and customers in 35 countries on five continents.

About Q400 NextGen aircraft

The Q400 NextGen turboprop airliner, which is built at Bombardier’s Toronto, Ontario facility, is the most recent development in the evolution of the Q400 aircraft, and the advanced successor to Bombardier’s Dash 8/Q-Series family of aircraft. Optimized for short-haul operations, the “comfortably greener,” 70- to 80-seat Q400 NextGen aircraft is a large, fast, quiet and fuel-efficient turboprop. It provides an ideal balance of passenger comfort and operating economics with a reduced environmental footprint.

About Horizon Air

Established in 1981, Horizon Air was acquired in 1986 by Alaska Air Group, Inc., the parent company of Alaska Airlines. At its start, the airline operated two aircraft and served three destinations in Washington state. Today it flies 48 aircraft on behalf of Alaska Airlines and serves 39 cities in the western United States, Canada and Mexico.

Challenger 350 aircraft to complete VistaJet’s modern platform fleet

PARIS, FRANCE–(Marketwired / Asianet-Pakistan – June 19, 2013) -

Editors note: There is one photo associated with this press release.

VistaJet, the world’s leading Global business aviation company, today announced a transaction with Bombardier Aerospace for 40 Challenger* 350* jets, consisting of 20 firm orders and 20 options with a 2013 list price of $1.035 billion US. The new Challenger 350 jets will join the VistaJet fleet in mid-2014.

Thomas Flohr, Founder and Chairman of VistaJet, commented, “VistaJet leads the industry in offering the world’s most modern fleet of large cabin jets. We now expand this strategy by adding the newest super-midsize aircraft to our current fleet of Global* and Challenger* aircraft. Having personally participated in the focus groups that led to the Challenger 350 jet’s conception, I am confident that this aircraft will deliver the comfort, technology and range that our customers rely on when flying with VistaJet.”

Flohr added, “Our Think Global strategy and commitment to provide point-to-point global coverage includes providing the best aircraft option for our customers’ intercontinental and transcontinental travel needs, always with guaranteed availability.”

Featuring a jump seat for the Cabin Hostess and cabin divider door, VistaJet’s Challenger 350 aircraft configuration mirrors the high standard and privacy of its larger counterparts within the fleet. The Challenger 350 jet is equipped with the latest cabin management system, including features such as in-flight Internet access via WI-FI, a modern business suite and trim panel speakers for the ultimate in-flight sound. VistaJet is the only operator with a Cabin Hostess on every flight.

The Challenger 350 jet has a true intercontinental range of 5,926 km; providing non-stop connections between all major cities within Mainland China, exceptional point-to-point access between major African cities and an impressive intercontinental capability, such as London-Lagos, Moscow-Dubai and Mumbai-Nairobi**.

“Following a historic Global aircraft order late last year, we are very proud that VistaJet has once again chosen to partner with Bombardier for their fleet expansion needs. Our newly launched Challenger 350 jet will be an excellent complement to their existing fleet of Bombardier aircraft,” said Steve Ridolfi, President, Bombardier Business Aircraft. “The Challenger 350 jet’s superior performance, new cabin and best-in-class operating costs will further support VistaJet’s global expansion and mission to offer the ultimate business jet family across the world.”

In late November 2012, VistaJet, the world’s luxury aviation company, announced the largest single transaction in business aviation history: 56 firm orders for Bombardier Global Jets and options for an additional 86 Global aircraft. The transaction was valued at more than $7.8 billion US based on list prices; deliveries will commence in 2014.

About VistaJet

VistaJet owns and operates the largest privately owned Bombardier business aircraft fleet – over 35 aircraft – the majority of which are large cabin, long-range Global and Challenger jets. Renowned for its consistency around the globe and as the only provider to offer an identical cabin design throughout its fleet, VistaJet’s global strategy of connecting its customers to every corner of the world with point-to-point coverage has made it the clear market leader with unparalleled experience flying in to, and out of, the hardest-to-reach destinations.

Karachi, June 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): If the offer of cash awards and expert mentoring at the P@SHA LaunchPad events wowed you, there is JUST ONE MORE perk for a winner or two from Karachi that we need to tell you about.

If the judges think that one or two or all three winning ideas from Karachi are ideas that are likely to become our next tech stars, P@SHA will connect them with Dot-Zero, the new community, co-working space coming up in Karachi next month. Dot-Zero is one of the grantees of the P@SHA Social Innovation Fund and they have agreed to incubate some of the P@SHA winners (who require working space).

Dot-Zero is the brainchild of three tech entrepreneurs – Farzal Dojki, Imran Moinuddin and Atif Azim who were later joined by one of our very successful entrepreneurs Yusuf Jan, of Mixit Inc. fame, as a Board Member and an Angel Investor.

Farzal, a graduate of UT Austin, worked for 3 startups in Pakistan before founding Next Generation Innovations in Karachi. He is also a co-founder of Venture Dive, another local startup.

Atif’s claim to fame amongst other things is that he was the founder of Perfigo, a technology startup in Silicon Valley, which was acquired by Cisco Systems. He went to Imperial College London and Stanford before founding Perfigo.

Imran is also a graduate of Stanford and the founder and CEO of Nex Degree. His organization catalyzes the growth for four socially conscious startups.

So what is Dot-Zero? Briefly, it is a not-for-profit community working space that hopes to be the fertile ground from which innovative tech starts will emerge. It is a space where networking, collaboration and an exchange of ideas will flourish. For more details regarding the project, check out this complete slide deck.

Karachi Plug and Play from Farzal Dojki

It is an amazing project that still requires some funding so if you have some extra money lying around that you want to contribute, do contact the Dot-Zero team. In the meantime, we are trying to see if we can find some perks for aspiring entrepreneurs from Lahore and Islamabad as well.
