We’re super psyched about this weekend’s Homegrown Fest, the little fest that could that’s celebrating its 4th year of rocking out in Main Street Garden. As attendees of the original Homegrown Fest, it’s been great to see it grow. This year’s lineup is nothing short of awesome, and with the setup, you don’t have to worry about missing a band.

But, if you’re like us and tend to run (really) late, or if you have other things to do on Saturday (and what’s better that music and drinking? Nothing. That’s what.), here are our picks for the 5 acts you can’t miss at Homegrown fest:

1. Divine Fits (9:30, Shiner Stage)
   They’re called a super group for a reason. With members from epic bands like Wolf Parade and Spoon, this new(ish) group got its start in Austin last year. Don’t miss this chance to catch this group at a fest this size. Next year, you’ll have to brave the attendees at larger fests and… well, example A of why that’s not an ideal situation.
   
2. Polyphonic Spree (8:25, Chevy Stage)
    You have to see Polyphonic Spree, if just to be stunned at how many people they’ll fit on that dang stage. Plus, you’re supporting local legends, if just because of their ties to Good Records (a BIJLM favorite). At this time of the day, you’ll probably need a pick-me-up, and Polyphonic Spree are sure to deliver.
   
3. The O’s (4:00, Chevy Stage)
   It’s no secret that we love us some O’s. Their latest album, Thunderdog, completes the triology of awesome that is the O’s discography so far. Plus, it’s really not a party unless the O’s are drinking Jameson (lots and lots of Jameson), and beating the heck out of a drum.
   
4. A.dD+ (6:00, Shiner Stage)
   Yet another local band you should see now, before they hit it big and you have to pull out your Homegrown ticket to show people that you liked them before they were cool. This hip-hop duo has been rocking shows in Dallas for years now, and we’ve no reason to believe Homegrown will be any different.
   
5. Larry g(EE) (6:45, Chevy Stage)
   Someone has to bring the soul to a festival, and Larry g(EE) is up to the challenge. This homegrown (ha!) funk collective has played Jimmy Kimmel live, SXSW, and now, they’re going to seduce your eardrums in Main Street Garden. Not too shabby.
   

And don’t forget, tickets are just $17 (!!) before 8 PM tonight. Get on it. We’ll see you there.

The 2013 edition of the Dallas Homegrown Festival has announced its initial lineup, which includes is largest headliner since featuring the likes of Neon Indian, Astronautalis and School of Seven Bells in 2011. This year, Divine Fits, the super group featuring Spoon’s Britt Daniel and Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs) will headline.

Larry g(EE), Burning Hotels, Madison King, Zhora, Quiet Company and J. Charles and the Trainrobbers round out the rest of the initial lineup.

The Homegrown Festival takes place on May 11, 2013 at the Main Street Garden Park. Tickets are $17 in advance and $25 day of. Tickets can be purchased online.

Another band that sounds way better live than recorded. Unknown Mortal Orchestra are seriously bringing it. Great way to close the excellent Brooklyn Vegan day parties.

Finally catching last year’s SXSW buzz band for their last SXSW show.

Natalie Bergman’s voice is stellar. It’s got tinged with blues and jazzy goodness.

The buzz was deserved. Wild Belle is fantastic live.

Just got the chills! So good.

These guys will get big.

Only caught one song but was very impressed. As they say in corporate, lets circle back on this one.

I swear, it seems that no matter who I see at SXSW, the music will be good. So the joy is in finding a showcase curated by someone with good taste and discovering the new bands. TEEN is another of those discoveries.

What a treat! Seeing Depeche Mode at SXSW with only a few hundred people in the venue. Played a mix of old and new material including live debuts of material off their upcoming album. Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence were the crowd pleasing hits of the night.

Friends have been raving about this band from Brooklyn for years. Finally got myself out to see them. Man are they good. High energy, tons of different instruments. Too bad they could only play 4 songs.
