If anyone is interested, Sportsbook.com is giving away free money this weekend. All you have to do is bet on Notre Dame, and they'll pay you Saturday evening. The line on the ND/San Diego St. game is currently -21.5 for the Irish. The beginning of the season is always the best time to bet on games because no one has any idea what the heck is going on.

In case you haven't been reading the intrawebs lately, SDSU's defensive front has been absolutely decimated by injury in fall practice and in last week's loss to Cal Poly(!). Yesterday SDSU's head coach announced that they may have to play linebackers along the defensive line because they simply don't have enough bodies. Let's do some math here. Notre Dame's offensive line averages about 315 pounds, and last week SDSU's defensive line averaged 270 before losing two more starters to injury. The Aztecs were one of the worst performing rush defenses in the country last year, and they gave up over 250 yards on the ground this past Saturday to ~~I-AA~~ FCS Cal Poly(!).

If the Irish don't rush for 300 yards on Saturday, I'll be pissed. If the Irish don't win by at least 21.5 points on Saturday, I'll be pissed. If I don't get my free money on Saturday, I'll be pissed. Look for the Irish to win by at least 30.

Time for Footbaw

Well it's that time of year again, kids. Time for marching bands, cheerleaders, crisp fall afternoons, and drinking Blue Moon in the basement by myself during Notre Dame games. Time to dust of the old remote and tune in to some college football. It's the best time of year, isn't it? First games of the season start tonight, so let's check out the schedule, shall we?

Hmm, not a lot of great games, although you wouldn't normally expect many barn burners on a Thursday night in August. The most interesting contest is probably NC State vs. South Carolina. Hopefully the Worldwide Leader will spare us the impossibly annoying Mark May in the press booth.

That being said, it will be interesting to watch Oregon State and Standford square off, if for no other reason to see what the Irish will have to face in the Cardinal come October. Hopefully another concussed quarterback who can't remember what year it is.

Looking forward to the weekend when Alabama takes on Clemson in Death Valley. Definitely the premier matchup of the weekend. It's be been a long off season, and game day can't come soon enough. Unfortunately ND has to wait another week before they pull down SDSU's pants and punch them in the face.

We talkin' 'bout footbaw. Footbaw. Not a scrimmage, not a scrimmage. Not a scrimmage! Footbaw.

Much like AI, I'm sick and tired of all this practice.

Another Good Reason to Come back to Blogger: Analytics

I forgot something! Wordpress doesn't allow you to embed Google Analytics code in your site. They instead have their own stats system that they use to report data to you. Coincidentally, it's basically a bear bones Google Analytics reporting service.

On Blogger I'm free to embed Analytics in my template to get extremely robust statistics for free. It's a great service. Not that I have a ton of people visiting this site, but it is kind of fun to see from time to time. For more serious bloggers, I can definitely see this being a huge advantage.

Moving back to Blogger from Wordpress.com

As I mentioned over on Wordpress, I'm moving back here to Blogger. The big reason? The freedom to embed content on my blog other than Youtube and Google Video. You'll see some nice badges over in my sidebar here now (FriendFeed, Flickr, and Last.fm). If you're subscribing via RSS, my feed is the same thanks to FeedBurner. Let's see some examples, shall we?

I can now embed Hulu videos! One cool thing about Hulu is you can shorten a clip to just the portion you want your viewers to see and embed the code on your page. That's what I've done here with this Family Guy clip. Pretty cool, eh?

Flickr just added support for nice, embeddable slideshows. Check out pics from my recent trip to Canada down below.

So long story short, it's nice to have the flexibility that Blogger allows over Wordpress. The system seems to be snappier and more reliable than it was a couple years ago, which caused my switch over to Wordpress in the first place. The only downer is that Blogger doesn't allow me to import my Wordpress content back over here. Oh well. I probably didn't have much of anything decent to say anyway.

Butter's Podcast is moving!!!!

Well, I've had enough everyone. Google purchased Blogger about three or four years ago, and since that time have done absolutely nothing to improve it. It's the least user-friendly, most unreliable thing I've ever encountered and I can't take it anymore. I've decided to move the blog over to Wordpress, which is much slicker for me, and looks about the same for you. As such, this will be the final post using the Blogger interface.

Absolutely everything else about the blog will remain exactly as is. So if you're subscribing to the blog via an RSS feed, that feed address will not change (thank you, Feedburner). None of the podcast locations will change either (thank you, Libsyn). The only address that changes is that of the blog itself, which can now be found at http://butterspodcast.wordpress.com. Pretty easy, right?

So change those bookmarks, kids, and if you're looking for old posts, don't worry! Wordpress has a slick import feature so all the old content has now been moved over to the new host. Here's hoping that you make the move with me and enjoy many more days of Butter's Podcast.

SEPTEMBER 22--Music and marijuana fans alike will appreciate this evidence photo memorializing the stash seized earlier this week from Willie Nelson's tour by Louisiana state police. During a September 18 traffic stop, cops smelled a strong odor of pot emanating from Nelson's bus. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up about 1-1/2 pounds of pot and a bag of mushrooms. The drugs were later photographed on the hood of a police cruiser. Nelson, 73, and four other bus passengers (ages 75, 59, 54, and 50) were issued misdemeanor drug possession citations and released at the scene. Thanks to our friend Steve Bloom, proprietor of the Blooming Ideas blog, for the heads-up on the evidence photo's existence.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about Flickr integrating geotagging in their site. This was awesome, but there is one "shortfall". Flickr uses Yahoo! Maps to place your photos, which is logical considering Yahoo bought Flickr last year. The downside of this is that relative to Google Maps, Yahoo Maps kind of stink, especially outside the U.S. Thankfully (and wisely), Flickr kept their geotagging API open so that other developers could use it.

Enter loc.alize.us. It maps all geotagged photos in Flickr (both traditional tags and Flickr's new super-friendly tagging scheme) on Google Maps. Check it out!

Performancing Makes Blogging Easy!

If you're running Firefox (which you should be) and write a blog, Performancing is a must-have extension. It allows you to compose blog posts right within Firefox without having to go to some stupid site, log in, and compose your post (in my case, this would be blogger.com). You can do everything right within Performancing, including editing old posts and the like. It's awesome.

Flickr gets even cooler with mapping...

Great new addition from Flickr, everyone. Now you can put locations on all of your photos to place them on a map and give a visual of where they were taken. For example, here you can find all the shots I've taken in PA. Or, say you want to see pictures everyone on Flickr has taken in Lincoln Park, Chicago. Well, just go here. How about Liberty Island, New York? The Grand Canyon? The National Mall in D.C.? Maybe you want to check out Ibiza, Spain. How about historic Route 66?

As you can see I'm fairly excited about this. Up until now, there were 3rd party apps that could do this, but it was pretty clunky. With Flickr making this an official part of the site, it's much better now. You can read all about it, and how to do it yourself over at the FlickrBlog.

So go have yourself a Flickr picture tour of somewhere cool! Just keep in mind that more popular locations will have several pages of photos, so keep your eye in the upper left corner what page you're on. Enjoy!

Georgia Tech Depth Chart

The two-deep for Georgia Tech has been released by Coach Weis. Some things of note:

- Munir Prince is in behind Walker instead of Aldridge. I have to think this is temporary until Aldridge's knee is completely healthy.

- The third and fourth WR's are Grimes (no surprise) and Anastasio, respectively.

- Sam Young is our new RT. Looks like he'll be a beast.

- Olsen is the second string LG. I'm surprised he beat out Stewart and Carufel.

- John Ryan is our second LDE. This scares me.

- Talley beat out Frome for RDE. Hopefully this is a good sign.

- Mitchell Thomas is at SAM with Vernaglia backing him up. Interesting.

- As expected, Travis Thomas is our WILL. Mmm...speed.

- Darrin Walls won the second LC spot. Nice work.

- McCarthy caught up to Bruton for 2nd FS. This is really surprising to me. I figured after the special teams performance that Bruton put on last year, he might even challenge Ndukwe for the starting spot.

- Lambert and McNeil tied for 2nd RC, which means another year of Mike Richardson.

- Three different guys will perform the various kicking duties. Yikes.

- Grimes and West will be the two kick returners. I'm curious where Prince ended up here.

That's about it. 8 days, baby!!
