Guys can be tough to buy for at the best of times, though some men really do seem to have absolutely everything. Don’t give up and go for the cash in the envelope this year and instead go with one of the following great gift ideas.

Flowers

Despite popular mythology, men like getting flowers just as much as women do, so surprise him on his special occasion by ordering flowers online and having them delivered to his home or office. The best thing about getting flowers is that you feel special and know someone is thinking of you, so give a gift that he may never have received before. Every man should be given flowers at least once in their life.

Food

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and for most guys there’s a lot of truth to that. Here is one of those great gifts that even if he already has it, he’ll want more. Whether it is a gourmet food basket, a gift certificate for a local restaurant or a home cooked meal, any man will love the gift of some great tasting food.

Tickets To A Show

Find out what his favorite music is and get him a couple of tickets to an upcoming concert or other musical performance. If it’s his favorite band it won’t matter if he’s seen them before and he’ll definitely be excited to be able to check out their new stuff. Make sure he hasn’t already bought tickets, as you don’t want to be committing the classic birthday mistake of getting him something he already has.

A New Watch

Guys are funny about their watches and often own two or three different timepieces, so if you haven’t noticed him wearing a new watch any time recently, getting him a watch is a great gift idea. You might want to go in on this gift with a few other people, as good watches certainly aren’t cheap, though this is a gift that you know will floor him.

When it comes to Australian travel, more often than not people imagine the beach, the red sandy desert and the range of amazing wildlife on offer. Fewer people think immediately of its vibrant and thriving capital cities, even though we have some of the most unique and innovative cosmopolitan centres in the world. From Melbourne to Sydney, from Perth to Darwin, Australia’s capital cities reflect the personalities of the people who dwell therein, and are therefore a great way to get to know a bit more about modern Australian culture. One of the best things about Australia’s cities, however, is that no matter which city you’re in, you are never more than a few hours’ drive away from beautiful bush land or quaint villages, which means that a trip to Australia really can encompass both worlds. We’ve put together of some great places to take day tours—all of which lie just outside of Australia’s major cities. Enjoy!

Blue Mountains

When it comes to natural beauty, the Blue Mountains definitely don’t disappoint. Whether you’re looking for bushwalking, wildlife, nature photography or some of the most spectacular rock formations you’ve ever clapped eyes on, you can find all that and more just a few hours outside of Sydney. Lying to the west of the biggest city in the country, you’ll feel miles away once you’re surrounded by the gorgeous villages and crisp mountain air of the Blue Mountains.

Margaret River

If you’re looking for a day trip or weekend getaway from Perth, the idyllic Margaret River Region in WA is the perfect spot to do it. A wine-growing and surfing oasis, the Margaret River is the perfect blend of rustic, laid back charm and fine food and wine.

Kakadu National Park

Darwin isn’t exactly a huge city, but nonetheless, sometimes you want to get away from it all and really go bush. Not far outside of Darwin is the beautiful and almost prehistoric-looking Kakadu National Park, filled with opportunities to get up close and personal with nature. Check out the crocodiles in the wetlands, the freshwater swimming holes filled with crystal clear waterfalls and the rock formations with indigenous rock art that dates back millennia.

The Great Ocean Road

Stretching from just outside of Melbourne across the southeastern tip mainland Australia, the Great Ocean Road is a popular tourist attraction with domestic and international tourists alike. It is a beautiful cliff-top highway with more scenic vistas and quaint coastal towns than you can poke a fishing rod at, the most famous of these attractions being the fast-disappearing 12 Apostles rock formation.

Gold Coast

Australia’s Gold Coast is a premier tourist destination, and for good reason! The holiday atmosphere here is almost unmatched anywhere else in the country, and with great weather, gorgeous beaches and a veritable playground of theme parks and nature centres, the Gold Coast is a great place to get away. Whether you make the day trip down from Brisbane or choose to spend a few nights in some quality Surfer’s Paradise accommodation, you can be sure of one thing—you’ll definitely feel like you got away.

Sometimes getting ready to move to a new home can be stressful and chaotic. There are so many things to clean, organize, and pack away that it is easy to overlook the small but important details that make for a much smoother move. Here are a few ideas for some extra things that you can do to make your transition easier.

Get Your Mail Forwarded – This minor detail is super fast and easy to do, but is often an important step that gets forgotten until much later when you realize that some important mail has failed to arrive at your new home. Instead of wait until later, why not just do it right now? This step will only take 5 minutes to complete, but will save you hours of hassle later on.

Hire Removalists – This step also takes no time at all, but will take a huge weight off your mind once it’s taken care of. As soon as you have finalized your moving date you can take care of this small detail (and it will also motivate you to have all your belongings packed and ready to go!). If you are moving out of state, it’s not any more difficult to organize; there are plenty of interstate removalists that can get the job done.

Contact Utility Providers – Waiting too long to get this one done could turn it into a messy and stressful task. It’s better to let your utility provider know early on when you are planning to leave your home so that you don’t accumulate any unnecessary charges. It is a good idea to set your utility cut off date for the day after you have moved to ensure everything will still work on the moving date.

Host a Going Away Party – It’s a great idea to break the monotony of packing and have a bit of fun before setting off to your new home. Parties are a convenient way to let all your friends know your new address and hopefully get a few offers for help with the move!

Keep an Ongoing Checklist – Having a list will help you stay organized while preparing to move. Add new things to the list as you think of them as well as tick off completed tasks, and you will feel super organized and on top of things. You will probably also get a better sleep at night!

Have a Yard Sale – Nothing is worse than putting a ton of effort into moving old furniture only to decide later that you don’t want it anymore. Having a yard sale will help you to pare down your stuff, which makes moving easier. The chances are very good that you will also find things while you pack that you don’t even want anymore!

Arrange a Pet-sitter – Moving house is hard enough on you, but it can also be an overwhelming experience for your furry friends. Having your pets in a safe and relaxing environment on moving day will mean less stress for you and less stress for them.

Australian wine is world famous, and with so many quality wine-growing regions, it’s easy to see why. As a result of the booming wine industry, wine tourism in Australia has experienced a surge in the past few decades, and as such visiting wineries has become a popular tourist activity. Wine tourism takes many different forms, and far from having the same experience in every region, it’s possible to make each place you visit unique in the way you explore it.

As such, we’ve come up with three different wine regions in Australia, and three different ways to experience them, from a luxury day tour from Sydney to the Hunter Valley to an authentic local experience in South Australia with quality Barrossa Valley Accommodation. So after you have organized some cheap travel insurance you can ready to have a great time!

Barossa Valley—Live Like the Locals

Well known for its hearty reds and gourmet local produce, the Barossa Valley is probably the most well-known of all Australian wine growing regions. It also has a thriving local community that is well worth exploring and experiencing for yourself, so to properly experience the Barossa Valley, we recommending staying for a while and experiencing life with the locals. The Barossa Valley Farmer’s Market is held each Sunday, and offers a variety of fresh local produce. Residents are only too happy to have a chat, so ask around and seek out the boutique wineries that are a little bit off the beaten track.

Margaret River—Perth Road Trip

The beautiful Margaret River region in Western Australia is famous for its crisp whites. It is also a bustling artisan community with a strong local cultural scene and plenty of boutique designer stores to showcase the talents of the community. Margaret River is also set on one of the most picturesque stretches of coastline in WA, so we’d recommend a road trip south from Perth to fully take in the scenery along the way. Get some travel insurance just in case you break down or optional insurance on your hire car. Once there, book in to a B&B and stay for the weekend, soaking up the setting and of course, your fair share of vino!

Hunter Valley—Luxury all the Way

A few hours’ north of Sydney is the famous Hunter Valley, responsible for some very well known Aussie wine exports. Its proximity to Sydney makes it perfect for a day-trip, and for something a little bit special, why not enlist the services of a Sydney limo hire service to take you up in style. Once there, your driver can take you wherever you please without the burden of an organised tour, and once you’ve had your fill of wine you can enjoy a bottle (or three) in comfort and style on the journey back into the city.

A community or charity event can be a very rewarding experience for the people involved, those who attend and the group that benefits from it. If you are in an organisation that focuses on fundraising or building awareness of a cause a great and memorable event can be an excellent way to achieve your goal. There’s only one problem — community and charity groups aren’t exactly rolling in money, so finding the cash to get started can often be difficult.

That’s where sponsorship comes in. So, where do you get started?

1. Getting a Sponsor

Asking for sponsorship from local organisations can be difficult, so make a plan before getting underway. Determine how you want to approach the organisation initially – letter, email, phone or in person – and get started. Remember when approaching them, they want to know what’s in it for them. A sponsorship is a good opportunity for the organisation to exhibit corporate social responsibility and show their commitment to the community. It will also raise their profile and on the softer side, enable them to help where help is needed.

Once you have initially approached the organisation, make sure you check in and follow up, so they are aware you are still waiting for a response.

2. How to Use It

If you have been rewarded for your hard work and an organisation or two has agreed to provide capital to get your event going, you need to make sure you truly make the most of every dollar, and here’s how:

-Strategy

Like any responsible spending, you need to budget your money so you can make the most of it. First step is to create a strategy for how you will progress from start to finish. Plan every dollar and the result you intend to get for that dollar. Contact additional organisations, such as event hire specialists, to also try to obtain sponsorship in kind, so your event dollars can be of use later.

-Allocate

As part of your strategy you need to segment out your approach, and allocate both funds, and other resources to each part. Allocating volunteers, time, and money will mean you are organised, and the event will run more smoothly.

-Negotiate

Part of making the most of your money and is not spending without knowing the price quoted is fair. When you receive a quote for anything – whether it’s food, pool supplies, entertainment or venue space – ensure you negotiate the price with the supplier. When trying to get the best price, ensure you leverage the fact this is a community or charity event.

-Measure

As you go forward, measure the outcomes at each step, so you can stick to budget and still afford to put on an event that truly wows your guests. In addition to measuring against budget, you can also seek feedback, at each stage so you know you are on track.

-Report

Once you have strategised, allocated, negotiated, put on the event and measured the results, it is a great idea to report back to the organisation that sponsored your event. This not only shows them that you very responsibly spent the money they invested, but also cements an ongoing relationship, so they may sponsor you again.

Let friends and family know where you are headed with as much notice as possible, and put the word out that you are looking to get in touch with people who live there. Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised to find that a close friend knows someone who lives there, or your old school tutor is over there, or at the very least, someone will know someone who has lived there at one point in time.

Once you’ve established these contacts: use them! They will not mind giving you advice and often a firsthand experience can be much more valuable than any website, guidebook or government advice.

2. Packing.

Decide what you want to take over with you straight away, and what could wait till later. Decisions like whether to store, sell or ship that Westinghouse Fridge can take up more time than it should. It is best to make these decisions straight away rather than leaving it till the last minute. Also, it pays to look closely into your flight’s baggage allowances. You will often find it works out to be more economical to pack another complete bag rather than going a few kilos over in your first two. Shop around shipping companies and don’t be afraid to use quotes to get the best price.

3. Prepare for culture shock.

For some, this can be the most exciting thing about moving overseas – the exhilarating feeling of being somewhere completely new and foreign. But this isn’t the case with everyone. Familiarise yourself with what luxuries will and won’t be available. From household facilities like Bosch Dishwashers through to medical and dental care, drinkable tap-water: being aware will allow you to prepare and plan for how you will adjust.

4. Language and customs

Not only is it simple politeness, but it will also make your life a lot easier if you make an effort before you arrive to learn about any important customs or learn basic language phrases. Invest in a pocket phrasebook to carry around with you, look up online language resources. Make sure you know how to ask the really important questions like “where is the toilet?” to avoid unnecessary stress. Knowing whether to handshake, kiss or so on will also help you when meeting people and making new friends.

5. Travel essentials.

Check out your destination country’s website and you will find a section completely devoted to foreign migrants. It pays to look through this thoroughly, and research any entry requirements. If you are moving for work they will often provide a lot of this information to you and sort a lot of the paperwork. If you don’t have this luxury, you should get onto that website well in advance because you don’t want to end up having to postpone your move for easily avoidable reasons such as your passport expiring in 6 months.

If you were looking for a fussy market, the commercial carpet market would have to be top of the list. The buyers are experts, and extremely cost-conscious. The demand is for quality, and often on a large scale. So when a new product type makes a huge impact on a market like this, it’s worth studying how and why these products achieve such high market penetration.

These carpets are grabbing huge market share in a hurry, and this phenomenon is based on a combination of technology and quality. They’re practically a new species, very different from the old products. This is a very good example of new technology vs. old, and it’s been no contest in the marketplace.

A brief comparison:

Old carpets are solid rolls, with underlays- The new carpets are tiles, with individual underlays.

Old carpets are time and maintenance expensive to install and repair- The new carpets can be installed very quickly and replaced in minutes.

The old commercial carpets are a much lighter weave- The new carpet tiles are very heavy duty, high density weaves.

Old style carpet tiles are joined and have stitched seams- The new carpets are glued, and seamless, reducing stress wear on joins and adding to product life as well as quality.

The old style conventional designs are fixed and can’t be altered- The new carpet designs can be customized using visualization software to match environments.

It really is no contest, from a buyer’s perspective.

Cost and product life

Another issue which varies considerably but underpins the commercial realities of the new commercial carpets is, naturally enough, cost. The real cost of an old style carpet can be defined as a combination of maintenance, repair and replacement costs. The old carpets, even the tough industrial carpets, come with some expensive baggage in terms of these issues.

The sheer disruption of replacing or repairing old single roll carpets is a cost in itself. The new carpets simply don’t have that problem. The fact is that it’s a competition between a slow process and a quick process if carpets need replacing or repairs. Again, it’s no contest in terms of cost-efficiency.

The market revolution

The new carpets have been getting the vote of buyers with some of the toughest problems- Schools, airports, office buildings, corporate premises managers, public space managers and other big-budget, high value demand buyers have been very quick to see the benefits of the new commercial carpet technologies. The customizable design features, high quality materials and very straightforward, no-nonsense functional values of the new carpets have been recognized.

Commercial flooring in particular has benefited from the vast range of new commercial interior design options and quality factors. Commercial flooring is notorious for its high cost and maintenance issues, and the new carpets have effectively become cost-savers, unlike their predecessors. They’ve become both functional and budgetary best practice solutions for buyers, hence their very deep penetration into a previously static, almost ideas-free market environment.

This is an actual case of the “Efficient Market” at work. It meets all the criteria of market efficiency, quite literally from the manufacturing process to installation. Marketers should study this phenomenon closely, because these principles can translate well into other markets.

Workplace bullying is a serious issue, to which individuals will invariably attest. In this article, we’ll take a look at what you can do if bullying is taking place in your workplace — whether you’re the victim, a bystander, or the employer.

Being Bullied

Workplace bullying may be physical, verbal, psychological or social, and it may be instigated by your boss, a colleague, or perhaps even a number of colleagues. It can take many forms, too, from hurtful comments to sexual harassment, social exclusion, sabotage of your work ability, and even physical intimidation. Workplace bullies can even affect your overall staff retention rates!

If you feel like you’re being victimised at your place of work, there are various steps you can take, depending on the situation. You can, for example, raise these concerns with management, who will generally have a dispute resolution process in place. It’s also a good idea to document your bullying experiences in a diary. If you don’t feel too intimidated to, you can even elect to approach the bully, who may be unaware of their inappropriate behaviour.

A Colleague

If you see a work colleague of yours being bullied or, indeed, if you see that a colleague is being a bully, there are steps you can take to get involved. As a bystander, you may not have a legal obligation to report what you’ve seen, but you do have a moral responsibility. One way to make sure you can remain anonymous is fill in details during any employee satisfaction survey that is being conducted.

Approach the bullying victim and tell them that you recognise the bullying problem — they’ll no doubt feel less alone in their struggle as a result. You’re also in the unique position to approach the bully yourself and tell them that you feel their behaviour is inappropriate.

If you’re not comfortable doing either of these, however, your best bet is to take your concerns to management or the human resources department, depending on the size of your company. There will generally be dispute resolution processes in place. Remember, often the victim will be either unwilling to admit or even unaware they are being bullied, so it may be up to you.

The Boss

As an employer, you have a responsibility, by law, to ensure your workplace is safe for all employees. This falls under both OHS laws and the anti-discrimination act. Consequently, if you are seen as allowing bullying to take place in your workplace, then you may be liable for any physical, mental or emotional damages that occur as a result.

Keeping a finger on the pulse of your workplace is important and a good way to do this is to learn to recognise the signs of workplace bullying. If an employee’s work is suffering, if the employee is spending more time away from work than usual, or if the employee simply seems to be sad or stressed while in the office, it’s possible that they’ve been a victim of workplace bullying.

Furthermore, if an employee approaches you with workplace bullying complaints, you should always take these seriously. You should have dispute resolution processes in place, and these must be adhered to; if you don’t have such processes in place, it may pay to contact a human resource consultancy, agency or workplace mediation experts to step in and introduce one.

It does not matter what type of courses (marketing courses, even with English courses) you are planning to study for your career, getting the right equipment, and getting the right attitude, and right help, is just as important as what you will study. There are a number of issues you need to get serious about if you want to get to the top, and getting there is not as hard as you think. Take my word for it, I was working for some serious people in Tokyo, and the Formula 1 Association, by the time I was 20 years old. I learnt these lessons early. I was lucky because I had some help. Read this article, and you will be ahead of the rest in no time at all.

Mentor. Having a mentor will do lot for you. Finding someone to take the time to help you move ahead in your personal life, and career life will be a little harder. Instead of looking for someone to help you, start by helping those older and more mature than you. You must give before you will receive. There are those people who will help you when they see you are someone who is prepared to do to a little more than the rest.

The Right Look. You can only meet the right people when you look the right way. Just because you are studying does not mean you can go grunge. Stay casual because it is hard to study in a suit at a business course, for example, but keep your appearance clean and tidy. Do not go to extremes because that will make you appear false. You are a student, and don’t forget it.

Equipment. Equipment is everything today. It can be hard to get the best laptop when you are a student, but at the same time, buying second hand from sites like eBay will mean you can get yourself a great business phone (smartphone), and a great laptop. I prefer Apple, because they are just easier to use, and they are so smooth, and they improve your image. Everyone loves Apple. I have never owned a new Apple laptop, but I have always had a very good one. One that I bought second hand.

Get Involved. If you are serious about any study, you should get more involved. If you are studying business, approach a reputable company and look for some form of work experience. If you are dedicated, they might even put you on a business mobile phone plan because you have shown some dedication. You can pay yourself, and you will have a huge amount of data and airtime. Showing dedication can lead to many things.

Online Work. Social media is your way to get your profile out there. Many people use Facebook for constant chatter. You should be using Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+, as an absolute minimum. Build up your relationships and spend your time wisely on these sites. Too much time, and too much posting will not get you anywhere.

Study is not a part of your life you should see it as your whole life. Take yourself to the next level by absorbing yourself in your future goals. See yourself in your mind in the future. Don’t be afraid, just believe in yourself.

There really is no bad time to visit a city like Sydney, where something is always happening and the weather never gets too cold. There are, however, some really, really GREAT times during which to visit Sydney, and the holiday season over Christmas and New Years’ would have to be right at the very top of that list. Because the holidays fall during summer in Australia, there’s the combined excitement of the festive season as well as the beautiful weather. Sydney-siders are blessed to live in one of the most beautiful cities on earth, but it seems that they really appreciate this the most in summer. Locals and tourists alike embrace the beauty of their surrounds and beaches, parks and bars are packed to the brim. If you’re thinking of visiting Sydney during holiday season then get cracking—buy that travel insurance, book those plane tickets and be prepared for a whole lot of fun!

Events

The holidays are a time where events in Sydney go into overdrive.

There is a range of food festivals including the Sydney outdoor noodle markets, where you can nab yourself some delicious food and eat under the stars (or streetlights) in Hyde Park.

The Vivid Sydney Festival and the Sydney Fringe Festival are both on over summer and the holiday season, so it’s a great way to get a feel for the city if you’re a tourist, or to make the most of your hometown if you’re a local!

Homebake Music Festival usually falls in early December and boasts a killer lineup of local Australian acts Held in the Domain, right in the centre of the city, it’s a great way to let your hair down and dance the night away!

Christmas Eve in Sydney is a great night for young people in particular to hit the town. People from Sydney who live elsewhere and are back in town for the holidays use it as an excuse to meet up with old friends and kick up their heels. The atmosphere in the city is electric and many bars and clubs will have Christmas-themed specials on offer.

If you are a backpacker visiting Sydney over Christmas and missing your folks back home, never fear—most Sydney hostels host extravagant Christmas celebrations so you can kick back with other travellers and have a very merry time indeed!

The Sydney to Hobart Yacht race kicks off on Boxing Day each year, and is the perfect way to recover from a big Christmas lunch!

New Year’s Eve in Sydney absolutely goes off. There are fireworks in the harbour and all-day events for kids and adults alike.

Activities

Sydney can get mighty hot during the summer, so the beaches definitely get a workout during the months between November and March.

Head down to Bondi for the Bondi Markets, then see what special holiday events are on—there is usually something each weekend at Christmas time.

Australia Day usually sees the Haviana Thong Challenge in the waters of Bondi Beach, where people attempt to create the longest unbroken chain of blow-up thong floatation devices. While sitting on them. In the water. OK, well we guess you have to be there…
