In a spectacular Darwinism fail, police had to be called to rescue a man in Hemel Hempstead, London, who was trapped inside a traffic bollard after sticking his head into it as a joke some two hours earlier!

Anyone who has attended university in the UK (I’m not sure if it’s the same in other parts of the world, but I’m assuming it is) and imbibed alcohol whilst there, will know about the fun that can be had with traffic cones (they make great party hats), bollards and the like. Usually however, this fun can be had without getting oneself wedged inside the apparatus.

That didn’t seem to be the case for this dude however who couldn’t get the bloody thing off and had to be assisted by a friend and a police officer.

The footage of the highly humorous rescue was shot by passerby John Waterman on his mobile phone. Describing the unusual incident, Waterman said: “It was very random, it’s not the usual thing you see in the middle of Hemel Hempstead on a Sunday lunchtime. I came out of Burger King and this man had the bollard stuck on his head. I had seen him walking with it on top of his head five minutes earlier, but now it was pulled right down. No one was helping him because they thought he was just messing around.”

Apparently the majority of people thought the whole thing was hilarious and didn’t realize that the man needed help. Eventually however, one caring onlooker called the authorities and the cone head was finally freed from his plastic prison. It seems the assisting police officer saw the funny side of it too, as Waterman said he seemed incredibly amused and was “chuckling to himself”.
The dude seems to have escaped from his misadventure primarily unscathed, though Waterman did say that he appeared “very red in the face” and covered in scratches once the bollard had been taken off his bonce!

It all started after a report about Shalin and his near-death experience with the biscuits appeared on fictional news site Rock City Times. Despite the fact that the site describes itself as being “Arkansas’ 2nd most unreliable news source” several other outlets like The Daily Mail Online, The Mirror and The Sun covered the strange story without realizing it was a hoax!

The satirical story claimed that Shalin decided to eat more buttery biscuits than anyone else at The Red Lobster in North Little Rock. It quotes witnesses that claim he sat at the bar whilst waiting for a table and decided to try one of their biscuits. Deciding they were “the most wonderful thing he ever placed in his mouth” he set about trying to break the record for the most that had ever been eaten.

It was reported that Shalin collapsed and fell into a “fat coma” after munching his 413rd biscuit.

Elaborating on how exactly the fat coma worked, the site stated “Doctors believe the butter from the biscuits have blocked signals coming from Shalin’s brain.” However they did add that doctors had managed to drain 2 gallons of butter already and expected the food writer to make a full recovery once they’d managed to extract the rest!

As the story exploded online, Shalin was hit with a flurry of calls, texts and messages from friends and acquaintances expressing concern about his health and was forced to tweet a message explaining that the whole story was a fake!

Anyone who regularly uses the internet and/or watches television, will have noticed that we have been overrun by zombies! Luckily the zombie apocalypse has not yet arrived, but there have been countless TV shows, movies, websites dedicated to surviving an invasion etc springing up all over the place.

In the latest episode of web show PBS Idea Channel, host Mike Rugnetta (@mikerugnetta) looks at the recent obsession with zombies in popular culture and puts forward several fascinating theories of what these shuffling, brain-eating, cumbersome folk might represent IRL. He also looks back through popular culture history and examines what various villains and enemies were symbolic of during specific eras.

In this incredibly entertaining short, Rugnetta speculates that zombies might actually represent technology and mankind’s inability to do anything about the way it is progressing. It is an intriguing idea and one I think many people will be able to understand and identify with.

Super cool Alsatian Wangcai loves sporting sunglasses and even has a mobile phone taped to his leg, is said to be inseparable with his moggy mate Mimi. When the kitteh gets tired, she will often jump up onto Wangcai’s back and hitch a ride atop her best buddy Alsatian!

The strange relationship between the pair frequently attracts the attention of passers-by and tourists who often stop to take pictures of the cat and the dog just chilling out together! Easy to see why, if I saw this odd couple, I’d be stopping to take happy snaps too, they are too darn cute!

Mimi and Wangcai belong to retired paramilitary policeman Xu Jin, 42, who has a large menagerie of pets, though he says none of his other animals are quite so friendly with one another as these two, which he says have a sibling-like bond!

For those of you who don’t know, an ambigram is a word, image or art form that carries a double-meaning when viewed from another direction or perspective. In the case of this advertising campaigning seemingly positive graffiti messages carry hidden signs of depression that become clearly visible when the image is turned upside down.

The campaign reminds people to look closer and more carefully when our loved ones or friends start showing signs of depression.

Toy Story’s honorable, revered cowboy Woody appearing in Grand Theft Auto and blows the shit out of your usual GTA thugs and hoodlums. Who knew our dear Woody could be so damn violent!

Taking one of the most heartwarming movies and one of the most gratuitously violent video games of our generation, YouTuber El Brochacho created the creepy merger and it is totally disturbing! There is something utterly eerie about watching the happy-go-lucky expression on Woody’s face as he annihilates everything and everyone in his path!

A long-haired tabby, Virginia had to have one of her back legs amputated, while the other does not work properly. She also has to wear diapers because she has no bladder or bowl control, yet staff at the cattery say she is a really caring mother for the kittens that come through the shelter doors and will look after them until they are adopted. The especially designed pink walker is helping to strengthen Virginia’s one back leg and staff say that she is making good progress since using it.

Talking about Virginia’s mothering skills, cattery president and cofounder Scott Person said: “She’ll take them and force them to lie down with her while she bathes them, just like a mom would…If they’re misbehaving, she’ll go around and correct them, and she’ll get them out of trouble if they got on top of one of the cat trees.”

The Texas cattery is a cageless shelter and the cats are separated by their age groups. Virginia’s disability means that she isn’t put with the other cats her age, because sometimes their play can be too rough for her. So she has been put with the kittens and has shown herself to be a great mom to the young felines that come through their doors!

Virginia herself is also up for adoption, however Person said it would take a “really special household” to take her in because of her extra care needs. But even if Virginia doesn’t find a family willing to adopt her, the shelter say will always will be welcome there. Person said: “she’s got a great home here, and she’s got a job — to take care of all the little kittens.”

Check out this footage of meteorologist Kristi Gordon having a major freakout when a giant spider appears on her forecast screen. When she notices the giant arachnid, Gordon really panics, hopping about the place and making little high-pitched yelping noises!

It’s funny to watch, but really her reaction is utterly understandable and I think a great many of us would be just as traumatized, if not more so! Ok, so we all know the spider isn’t really there or quite so huge IRL, but in that spine-chilling, horror-inducing split-second, how would you react? I think there’s a lot of people who would be sporting brown trousers if that had happened to them!

If you thought the guy who liked riding around Madison on a scooter wearing nothing but a thong and a cape was wacky, check out the footage of this woman from Thailand.

The woman’s scooter is oddball enough, adorned with what looks like an actual animal skull and real rifles, but when you see her tearing it up on the tarmac with her little pet parrot flying alongside her before settling down to perch on the handlebars – that really tops it off and takes the whole thing soaring headfirst into bizarro land!

The footage was captured by Mike Swick, who said that it might even be the “strangest thing” he has ever filmed in Thailand and “that’s saying a lot.”

Swick tells his viewers, “You will notice new crazy shit every time you watch it.” I like the fact that she’s got a “don’t fuck with me” look on her face, a baddass, menacing bike and yet has a really cute little pet parrot flying with her!
