Trip report — 3/19 – 3/27 Moorings 372PC charter. A trip report about chartering a power boat from the Moorings. Lots of great detail. And I agree – the 374 has much, much more room than the 372.
A land based trip from someone used to going to Bonaire. The pictures are in another post.
Sailing the BVI with Sunsail. Lots of detail including their experience with Sunsail and where they went.

The BVI Music Festival is coming up over Memorial Day Weekend. For such a large, annual event, there’s very little about it in blogs. I found lots of official press releases but no first hand accounts. Have you been? What did you think? Any tips for people that are interested in attending?

Virgin Islands Sailing offers to pay for trip reports

Virgin Islands Sailing, a charter company, is offering $200 for trip reports regardless of what company you chartered with.The only requirements listed on the website are 500 words or more and 2-5 pictures. I’ve emailed them asking them for more info.

If you’ve worked with them, please let us know how it went!

Importing lemurs to the BVI

Richard Branson is importing lemurs from Madagascar to Moskito Island in the BVI. He’s hoping to create a sanctuary but most of the time importing foreign species creates lots of problems …

For example, Australia has problems with imported cane toads, feral pigs and goats.

Richard Branson already has approval from the authorities in the British Virgin Islands.

Should you sail under a pirate flag?

Some people think it’s fun to fly a pirate flag, the Jolly Roger, while sailing, especially if you have kids on board, if you’ve been reading about the history of pirates in the BVI or just for fun, like a pirate costume party.

Other people think it’s extremely offensive because it endorses piracy.

It’s been debated in several sailing and chartering forums and there are a lot of strong opinions on both sides!

What do you think? Do you fly a Jolly Roger?

(If you do fly one make sure you follow proper flag etiquette and fly it well below and separate from any national flags!)

Oh no! More cruise ships in the BVI.

Any one who has tried to enjoy Tortola or JVD when a cruise ship is in knows to avoid them like the plague. So it’s extremely discouraging to hear that the BVI Tourist Board is trying to attract more cruise ships. They even had Disney down to see if they could build something in Road Town to attract the ships.

They will probably drive away their charter business if they increase their cruise ship business.
