The Exhibit Project – Beginnings {Hallettsville TX Maternity Photography}

Recently I have been taking some online photography workshops that have really changed the way I view the world around me. They have challenged, inspired, and excited me. I suppose in some ways they have frustrated me too. I have seen so many great and wonderful things I’ve felt compelled to add to my to do list that never seems to become a done list. The projects are adding up, but it feels good to chip away at that ever growing list. Maybe the best part is that I have made some wonderful friends through these classes who are walking alongside me in this fantastic journey I am on.

I have joined a group of fabulous photographers who are united in expanding their creativity through a monthly collaboration called The Exhibit Project. We are a small but mighty group and there are talented photographers from around the world involved. The project is headed by Sharina Wunderink and you can find out more about it here. This month the theme is beginnings.

I couldn’t think of a more perfect theme for this month. I thought of all the different things I could photograph to illustrate the theme. I am thrilled the lovely Amy was as excited as I was about getting together for her maternity session. Of course images of an expectant mother are a perfect illustration of the word beginning. But as I was editing these images I came to realize how that for me they are symbolic they are of the theme than being simply maternity images.

To me they are so much more…

…they are the beginning of my venture into maternity and newborn photography, which I plan to do a lot more of.

…they are the beginning of my 2nd full year of business. And my how things have changed in my life since April of last year. I have big plans for this year. Watch out world!

…they are the beginning of springtime. Spring is well underway here in South Texas. The bluebonnets are a sight to see. The brown of “winter” is gone, not that there is much winter here compared to what I was used to up north. But the grass is green again, wildflowers are everywhere, and the leaves that drop off some of the trees in the fall are back and a beautiful, vibrant, glorious green.

…they are the beginning of what promises to be a very exciting and busy time in my life. Lots of sessions are happening in the months to come!

For Amy and her family…

…they are the beginning of a new chapter of their lives as a family of four.

…they are the beginning of Regan’s life as a big brother.

…they are the beginning of maybe a sleepless night or two.

Wind {Hallettsville TX Family Photographer}

Sunday was Jayden’s 6th birthday party and my it was windy. I would normally embrace the wind because I love the wind in the hair look for portraits, but it was pretty hard to decorate for an outdoor party when the wind kept blowing everything down. I wished for the wind to go away, then I got this picture. Totally worth it!

This is a super fun family session from last fall. The little guy made me work really hard for those smiles when my camera was up, but before the session he was full of smiles for me. Oh my goodness those blue eyes of his… melt my heart. You will be seeing much more of this family on the blog. I have photographed them 2 more times in the past months. I seriously can’t get enough of those eyes of his!

The lovely Juliette was so much fun! She didn’t want to stray too far from momma, but we had a great time playing peek-a-boo and blowing kisses. Juliette loved smelling and touching the roses in the beautiful rose garden in Riverside Park, Victoria TX. One of the best parts about photographing the toddler age is that I get an excuse to act like a child myself.

I never liked working on my vacations. Now I don’t mind one bit, especially when I get to photograph families as beautiful as this one! Jessica and I are friends from way back. Way back as in high school! We took a photography class together. I think our final project was a slideshow set to the tune Man in the Mirror. It was so much fun spending time with her sweet family and catching up. And isn’t Jessica truly radiant pregnant? I had such a hard time narrowing down my favorites! Enjoying Life Photography Contest – Victoria TX Photographer

It’s moments like these that make me happy to be a photographer, this is the best photo I have ever taken. Though not technically a perfect shot, the pure joy on my daughter’s face is a moment I will cherish forever. As soon as I saw that the I Heart Faces challenge was enjoying life, I knew this would be the photo I would use. There are sure to be many great entries so take a peak!
