Vodafone recently released it’s 2H2012 report. At the same time they also shared “Data usage per customer among iPhone subscribers was up 30 percent compared with the same period last year, while Android device data usage increased 25 percent. As an indication of the growth in mobile ecommerce, eBay recently reported that the company is on pace to double their mobile gross merchandise volume in 2012, up from $5 billion a year ago.

No surprise - the recently released Citrix ByteMobile’s Q4 2012 Analytics report found that the eBay app made the Top 10 Volume producing apps for iOS smartphones and tablets. For the full report, click here.

Expect this trend to increase - Juniper Research also recently forecast the number of consumers purchasing physical goods remotely via mobile device is poised to increase by roughly 50 percent, from 393 million in 2012 to 580 million in 2014. And in related news: Ebay owned PayPal is now selling its PayPal Here credit card reader at 1,800 AT&T Mobility across the US. (PayPal Here enables small businesses and other users to process credit and debit transactions by swiping cards through a triangle-shaped dongle that attaches to their smartphone or tablet.)

YouTube recently reported that views from mobile devices now account for a quarter of total usage on the video service. YouTube’s Robert Kyncl said mobile views have risen from 6 percent of the total to 25 percent over the past 18 months.

Bytemobile has seen this trend, and in our latest analytics report analyzed the connection between the two leading mobile apps, Facebook and Youtube. The analysis found that the largest majority of data volume generated by the Facebook app accessing other sites, is via Youtube, at 24%. Citrix ByteMobile has released the Oct 2012 edition of its quarterly Mobile Analytics Report. Now in its third year, the report provides insight into subscriber behavior and related factors that determine quality of experience (QoE) for mobile data services today. It is intended to give mobile network operators real-world use cases for measuring, managing and monetizing mobile data traffic through QoE.

For example, mobile subscribers generate greater demand for mobile video in the late evening hours of 10 to11 p.m., which coincides with a social networking busy hour of 10 p.m.

One the way to work this morning, I saw a mobile billboard, with an AT&T ad: “We’ve reduced dropped calls 35% in SF.” Clearly, dropped calls are a measurement of call quality. However, as smartphone penetration grows (US Q2 2012 smartphone penetration was over 50%)  mobile data quality will increase in importance.

Recent research from Futuresource Consulting and the MHL Consortium shows 30 per cent of UK smartphone owners stream video to their mobile phones. Beyond existing usage, it is clear that subscriber interest in mobile video is poised to grow, a demand AOL is look to fill by launching Android and iOS apps to help users find and watch video content on their smartphones.

Pew Research survey results show that 62% of  smartphone and 64% tablet owners use these mobile devices to check news. Additionally, the study found that roughly 15% click on ads when getting news on one of the mobile devices and about 7% actually buy something, which are higher click-through rates than on browser-based display ads which are less than 1%.

Further proof that mobility is the future,  Comscore reports that mobile devices account for 1/8 internet page views and ABI research predicts by 2015 there will 155 million mobile video users from 2.4 million in 2010.
