Patrick McElligott's fast for clean water at Senator Libous' office, Binghamton on 1/16

On Monday, January 16, Patrick R. McElligott of Guilford in Chenango County will be beginning a fast for clean water outside Senator Libous' office in Binghamton. His goal is to obtain a meeting with Senator Libous who has declined to meet with his own constituent. Mr. McElligott would like an opportunity to voice his opposition to hydrofracking. Please check out this video of Mr. McElligott or this Truth Out article and then his personal letter. One of his concerns is the Hanehan gas well now being constructed near his home in Guilford.

Saturday, Jan. 7th from 1-4 pm - Hydrofracking Comment Writing Party at Guernsey Memorial Library, 3 Court St., Norwich. Plymouth Friends of Clean Water, in cooperation with Otsego 2000, is hosting a day of letter writing help for concerned citizens who would like to submit comments to the DEC regarding their draft SGEIS and Drilling Regs. before the extended Jan. 11 deadlines. Please share word of each with your friends and neighbors and encourage all to attend one or the other to kick off 2012!

The Public Comment Period for NYS's Draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (SGEIS) has been extended to Jan. 11, 2012. C-CARE Halloween Parade, Norwich

Please join C-CARE this Saturday at 2 PM as we march in the Norwich Halloween Parade during the Pumpkin Festival! We are marching against fracking with the theme "Warding off the Vampires." We have a float with drummers, decorated signs to carry and necklaces of garlic to distribute to ward off any vampires.

The parade starts promptly at 2 pm. We are meeting up between 1 and 1:30 PM on Division St, one street north of the Hale St light on the right side of Route 12/ South Broad St .

Bring a drum or sign, volunteer to carry one of our props, wear a costume or simply just attend! If possible, let us know to expect you by writing ccare at frontier.com

MISSING: REGULATIONS THAT PROTECT US FROM FRACKING POLLUTION, a workshop with James "Chip" Northrup, will be Thursday, October 20 from 7-9:30 PM at SUNY Norwich (the Norwich Campus of SUNY Morrisville), Community Room, 20 Conkey Avenue, Norwich.

Learn how to comment on the DEC’s SGEIS & proposed shale gas regulations, online or by mail, during this workshop with retired energy industry investor James "Chip" Northrup. Feel free to bring a laptop.

Demand protection from the hazards of fracking

Chenango Community Action for Renewable Energy (C-CARE) placed second marching in the New Berlin 50th Youth Days Parade on Saturday, 8/27. The group was previously awarded second place in the Chenango County Fair Parade on 8/9. Parade goers experienced a spirited, drumming group of community members marching with signs, banners, windmills and giant sunflowers carrying messages related to promoting renewables and raising awareness of the dangers of gas drilling and fracking. The people along the parade route waved and cheered.

C-CARE supports the development of sustainable, renewable energy in Chenango and neighboring counties and believes the long-term economic well being of our county requires a clean natural environment that supports sustainable agricultural practices and recreational enterprises.

Be sure to watch Chip Northrup's presentation on the false promises of shale gas economics and what we can do locally to preserve Chenango County by prohibiting heavy industrialization.

The group has been actively working to inform Chenango County residents through monthly forums and films. In order to facilitate community dialogue, C-CARE sponsors monthly educational forums as part of the Fourth Thursday Monthly Speakers Series and co-sponsors the Second Tuesday Monthly Film Series. Events are free to the public and address issues related to our region's as well as world's economic, environmental and public health.
