C4CC Calls on Senators to Oppose Federal Renewable Energy Standards

Consumers for Competitive Choice, a diverse national coalition that supports a strong, vibrant and consumer-focused economy, today called on members of the U.S. Senate to oppose any energy legislation that mandates renewable energy standards.

In a letter to senators Robert K. Johnson, president of C4CC, noted that while responsible deployment of alternative energy resources is necessary, it cannot come at the expense of American consumers, particularly those Americans who are on fixed incomes. The full text of the letter is as follows:
Stimulus + Clean Energy = Jobs and Energy Independence

C4CC has been closely following the debate in Congress over the economic stimulus bill-the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. There has been a lot of negative press and talk about this current recession and what we need to do to get out of it.

We here at C4CC see some potential for Congress to do right by the American people and help to move us on the path to get our country working again.

Letter sent by Founding C4CC Board Member Ted DeBro from the Obama Inauguration

Dear Friends,

The inauguration of our New President, Barack Obama was shared by LaJoyce, two of my sons, Mark and Dennis, and two of my grandchildren, John Mark and Lara. I wanted to share with my friends the exciting time we experienced. The joy started in the boarding of the plane for DC and the sharing of excitement and joy with other passengers headed for Washington for the inauguration. I knew that there is a change coming and that we will all is a part of it.

Consumers need answers to questions that loom large when jobs are in jeopardy and medical insurance coverage is at risk.

A new discussion forum launching this week at www.simplecoverage.org gives people a chance to ask tough questions and get straight answers about health insurance, whether they’re shopping for new coverage or weighing options after a job loss.
"People who lose their jobs don’t have to join the ranks of the uninsured," said Bob Johnson, president of C4CC Education Fund, a consumer advocacy group specializing in health insurance education. “There are smart, affordable alternatives in the individual medical insurance market, and simplecoverage.org wants to help people find what they need, perhaps at their time of greatest need.”
The discussion forum at simplecoverage.org allows people to connect with both health coverage experts and other consumers who are researching medical insurance options. The simplecoverage.org Web site offers advice and information that people can use to evaluate their short- and long-term needs and make smart choices about their insurance.
“The forum is a great starting point for people who want to discuss their options for health coverage after a job loss or between jobs,” Johnson said.
Jenny Allen, a single mother of two from Indiana, used simplecoverage.org to start her search for individual medical insurance. "When my employer dropped health insurance at the end of 2008, www.simplecoverage.org gave me the information and support I needed to find my own individual policy. It was much easier and more affordable than I imagined."
C4CC Education Fund is a non-profit, membership-based organization that works to provide consumers with information and tools to make informed choices in the marketplace. SimpleCoverage.org was developed and is maintained through a grant provided by Assurant Health Foundation.

COMMON SUBSTANCE PROVEN SAFE BY 40 YEARS OF STUDY
Proposed Bill Could Increase, Not Decrease Risks For Our Children

Hartford, CT – Consumers for Competitive Choice (C4CC) President Robert Johnson today challenged assertions prompting legislation to ban phthalates used in toys. The Hawaii Legislature is considering such a ban through H.B. 2449. However, including phthalates inadvertently puts children at greater risk.
