Jennifer Aniston’s Mexican vacation was made extra special by One & Only Palmilla resort staff in Cabo San Lucas and the local military – they teamed up to prevent the prowling paparazzi from ruining her birthday break. The actress jetted off to Mexico with friends and reported new man Gerard Butler to celebrate her 41st birthday, and she’s thrilled with the efforts locals made to keep her holiday a peaceful and private trip. In an agreed TV interview with reporter Billy Bush, the actress pointed out the paparazzi boats out at sea, full of snappers who tried to get saucy shots of the star. But resort staff, police and the local coast guard went beyond the call of duty to make sure the trip was a relaxing one.
She explains, “Our gang … has been holding up these mirrors … to sort of disrupt their photographs … I think any guest who comes here would hope to have a little privacy. I think it’s very nice.” During the beach chat with the “Access Hollywood” presenter, Aniston revealed locals on jet-skis had been splashing the sea-faring paparazzi and the local military patrolled the area, blocking snappers from getting too many clear shots of the actress and her birthday party, which included Courteney Cox and Sheryl Crow.

From exploring the downtown marketplace to a sport fishing adventure reminiscent of The Old Man and the Sea, Cabo San Lucas offers unique experiences that can only happen in this one special town. A hike up Pedregal Mountain, surrounded by the desert vegetation of Mexico’s fabled Baja Peninsula. A walk through the shallow tidewaters of the Pacific. A sunset you’ll never forget. This is life as it should be. This is life at Capella Pedregal. A unique place that offers the opportunity to become part of something special. Residences adorned with hand-hewn arbors and trellises, and with color palettes inspired by the very land they’re built upon. Casonas, situated over the granite cliffs of Pedregal Mountain, with interiors designed to suit the specific tastes of the owner. As a resident of Capella Pedregal, you haven’t found just a home or a place to vacation.

You’ve discovered a truly special place where coming home brings with it a whole new meaning. There are, of course, other developments along the Mexican coastline. Cabo is famous for them. But there has never been an opportunity that combines the soaring views from Pedregal Mountain, the incomparable amenities and the inimitable service standard of Capella Pedregal. Start with a beach so private it took a 1,000-foot tunnel to get there. This very tunnel will keep our location secluded and exclusive. As you emerge, the fragrant air, the vivid colors and the sound of the waves envelop you.

Tourists and residents in Cabo San Lucas are enjoying sunny skies and breathing a sigh of relief now that Tropical Storm Rick has passed the Baja California peninsula. The storm did not cause widespread flooding or destruction in the Cabo San Lucas area but large surf generated by the storm was responsible for the death of a 16-year-old boy and for eroding portions of Medano Beach.
The port remains closed but will reopen Thursday, which will mark the beginning of the Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament, which will run through Saturday. The event is the world’s richest billfish tournament, anglers will compete for $3 million in prize money.

Cabo San Lucas, East Cape get off easy as Hurricane Jimena moves north. Hurricane Jimena made landfall halfway up Mexico’s Baja California peninsula on Wednesday, slapping desert towns with howling winds and rain after drenching the Los Cabos resort area overnight. Jimena, a Category 2 storm, pummeled the peninsula’s west coast with 100 mph winds and driving rain but had dropped considerably in force since the weekend when it blew into a highly dangerous Category 4 hurricane. A hurricane warning remained in effect for the north of the peninsula but civil protection officials said there were no reports of casualties or major damage to property in Los Cabos after Jimena brushed past there on Tuesday. People swept up debris, beachfront restaurants emptied out storm sandbags and hotels began removing boards from their windows as the weather calmed down. But many tourists had already cut their vacations early and flown home.

“This leaves us with a very bad week,” Gonzalo Fanyutti, head of the Los Cabos hotels association told local radio. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Jimena was now about 30 miles north-northeast of Cabo San Lazaro and moving north-northwest at around 13 mph.
An Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development meeting of officials from dozens of countries to discuss tax havens had to be moved from Los Cabos to Mexico City.

Hurricane Jimena, a dangerous Category 4 storm off Mexico’s Pacific Coast, was on track to buffet resorts on the Baja California peninsula on Tuesday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
Jimena, a small but powerful hurricane that has intensified quickly since it formed early on Saturday, was packing 145 mph winds with higher gusts, and the Mexican government issued a hurricane watch for southern Baja California. A hurricane watch means hurricane conditions are possible with 36 hours.
According to the five-step Saffir-Simpson intensity scale, Category 4 hurricanes are “extremely dangerous” and can cause devastating damage if they hit land. The hurricane center said people located in central Baja California peninsula and western mainland Mexico should also monitor the storm’s progress because more watches could be issued on Monday. Jimena is still a safe distance from shore but set to gather steam and brush the upscale resort of Los Cabos on Tuesday, when the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is scheduled to hold a meeting there to discuss tax havens.
A hurricane watch is in effect for Baja California. A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 36 hours.

How about trading the posh Cabo San Lucas and Los cabos for some serious dust? Doesn’t sound that good – does it?? It sure does not go with the famous Cabo lifestyle if you read the opening but let me tell you one thing – you are gonna like it!! Does being a modern day cowboy on 50+hp motorcycles “flying” through the Baja Sur landscape raise your interest?? Well, if it does – How about a bunch of desert racing Trophy Trucks, 700 horsepower monsters, moving off road across the Baja Sur desert at speeds you can’t imagine? Still not enough for you CSL visiting speed-freaks?? Let’s bring you to the edge of your seat and throw in some Class 1 unlimited buggies with about 500 horsepower to give you an overview of the event. There are many hard fought for classes in the upcoming Coyote 300 desert race being held this weekend in La Paz. There are over 100 entries in this 15 th edition of the race. A race liked by the locals racers as much by racers coming from up north. They will all compete in this challenging course around the Southern Baja – starting in La Paz Centenario and ending at the finish line at the Tecolote Beach famous for its divine views of the Isla Espiritu Santo. Coming out of La Paz the off-road racers will pass Todos Sandos via Los Inocentes on the Pacific coast of the Baja Peninsula before turning inland and heading over to Los Planes at the Sea of Cortez going north to the finish line at Tecolote.
There is more to it then just the Coyote 300 race, the evening before the race is a huge fiesta at the Malecon in La Paz where you could see the vehicles and racers up close. So get a car and take the 2 hours trip to the city at the bay – La Paz!! It will be worthwhile! And if you are out there and wondering where those desert trophy truck guys are- just follow the dust because that’s pretty much what you’ll see but the thrill of being present makes it all 100% worth it!!
Additions by the editor: if you know your way around ,or have a local drive you, you can basically watch the the top classes pass 3 times if you move along across the Baja Sur!! And you will forget the dust at the huge fiesta taking place after the race at Tecolote beach – enjoy a few cold brews , chips and salsa, and views of the annual bikini contest!!
Visit the Coyote 300 website here or check in at Puro Off Road on race day for the live race web cast (connection permitting). Puro Offroad does twit also here…

“Come on down, everything is fine here, weather is fantastic and we are waiting to catch you some fish.” Everything is not fine. The mega-resort community at the tip of Baja California is in dire straits, thanks to the same factors that affect tourism in all of Mexico: global recession, drug-related violence and the swine flu scare. It doesn’t matter that the latter two issues are localized in other areas. As far as many non-Mexicans are concerned, because of what they’ve seen on TV or read, the entire country has plague.
In Cabo, which was built initially around sportfishing, the main drag is all but deserted. Hotels are nearly empty. Cruise ships aren’t coming. The number of flights have been reduced. Tracy Ehrenberg, longtime Pisces fleet owner and wife of a prominent politician, said the town is emptier than it was in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist strikes and a subsequent devastating hurricane.
But tourist destinations throughout Mexico, as the worst of a flu-related heath crisis seems to have passed, are begging people to come back–and some are doing so imaginatively. According to a story in the Latin American Herald Tribune, eight hotels in Cancun and the Riviera Maya are offering full refunds and free vacations for up to three years to anyone who contracts the swine flu virus during their vacation.
In Cabo and throughout Baja California Sur’s East Cape region, locals occasionally make fun of a swine flu issue that they believe was blown out of proportion by the media (see photo). But in reality, anyone who makes a living off visiting fishermen or other tourists is feeling a major pinch and knows this is no joke. This will pass, however, and tourists will regain confidence and resume traveling to Mexico and elsewhere abroad; but when it will pass is anyone’s guess.
