I’ve always had a passion for youth and all that goes with supporting them to be the best that they can be. Passion Foundation just felt so natural to support.

What is Passion Foundation?

Passion Foundation is comprised of a Board that is committed to holistically assisting young women to achieve everything they want in life. Loretta Cella is the Founder and Executive Program Director. Loretta’s background in Child and Youth Care Counselling combined with her work in Vancouver and globally, set her out to begin Passion Foundation. Passion Foundation’s Mission is to support young women to achieve personal success in life by supporting each other. Passion Foundation provides opportunity for self exploration and positive role modelling assisting young women to connect with their life purpose.

Focus shifts, things happen but usually most goals are attained and that leaves a feeling of gratitude and satisfaction that just don’t come with wayward resolutions. That is why I say we should just scrap the resolutions!

I have goals. Many of them will come to pass and a few will possibly fall by the wayside. I’m ok with that. I know that 2012 will bring more change and that change is good. A new website is on the way for me and partnerships with businesses I had never have even thought of before! Events are in planning stages and speaking engagements are booking up. I am also very excited to see what 2012 brings as Jordan Consulting purposes to give back and support the Passion Foundation! I think choosing one word is going to drive 2012!

I stumbled across One Word 365 the other day through my amazing writer friend Sarah over at Emerging Mummy. It got me thinking further along the lines of my goals for 2012 and hopes that I even see for others and what can be attained through that. As I mentioned 2011 has been a great year! I feel like I really couldn’t ask for more. One Word 365 is where I’m taking 2012. And it’s not about more. Informally my ‘words’ for 2011 would be ‘Why Not?’ It works for me and I’m going to stick with it but I am also going to tag along for the year of a lifetime with One Word 365.

My word for 2012 is going to be Purpose or perhaps even Purposeful. I know that there is a plan and purpose for my life, my business and each of you reading this right now.

One Word 365 came about because the founder felt that resolutions just don’t cut it. I challenge you to choose your word. Keep your focus all year long and watch it shape your year, your life and YOU! Will you join the movement?

Nestled in the heart of Granville Island, amongst the industrial you will find a hidden oasis. A place of relaxation, renewal and results. I had the pleasure of being invited in to Calixica to indulge in their latest experience of the Beyond Roses and Chocolates feature package.

I was warmly greeted upon my arrival by Flo, my spa practitioner. I settled in with a warm cup of rose infused herbal tea. We began with a Calixica welcoming ritual of warm hand towels and a pure wild rose inhalation. I was invited to just relax and take it all in.

Calixica uses Isun Organic Skin Care and Benedetta in combination. These are some of the purest products that I have discovered. The products use pure organic, wild crafted and naturally sustainable plant life. This ensures that the product and results are delivered in the purest form and that the essential oils are used within their highest vibrational properties.

I was escorted to my treatment room where I immediately felt warm and relaxed. My Beyond Bliss experience began with a short intake to set the intention for my treatment. I was invited to change and slip onto the table and await bliss.

Pure indulgence began with a warm oil body massage using four different gemstone infused Isun Organic Chakra oils. Isun developed these oils to be used for massage according to ancient Indian philosophy of Chakra balancing and working along the meridians in our bodies.

As Flo massaged I melted into the table and almost drifted off to sleep. The massage was completely relaxing however therapeutic in its own way. Upon completion of my massage Flo immediately and seamlessly transitioned into my Rose Bliss Harmonizing Facial. My skin welcomed the process and I particularly enjoyed the Isun Rhassoul Refining Exfoliant. This is a pure blend of Moroccan mineral rich clay and finally ground ocean floor crystals. My skin felt as if it had a manual microdermabrasion. Next my skin welcomed the Honey-Goji Berry Mask. This mask is a blend of wild mountain honey and antioxidants from goji berries. These properties mixed with the mango and raw Shea butters left my skin feeling and looking nourished.

My 90 minutes of Beyond Bliss were just that. I felt fully nurtured and attended to throughout the whole experience. My experience enabled me to feel as if I had taken a mini vacation. I was left feeling relaxed, restored and renewed.

This treatment is from Calixica’s ‘Beyond Roses and Chocolates’ featured packages. In exchange for my experience Calixica would like to give the very same away to one lucky individual!

Remember a time when you were dating. . .

You’d make time to do those things that made you feel good.

Manicures, pedicures, massage, retail therapy. . .whatever it took to have you show up looking and feeling your best.

(Don’t laugh, I used to meditate before a date. Yes, I really did. Had to calm myself down somehow!)

Now back to the present and a reality check.

Do you still make time to do those very important “feel good” activities?

Before you tell me you don’t have time to spend on yourself, consider that there are many activities you could do that would take much less time to complete than the time you currently spend worrying about how you’re going to get it all done.

Truth is, you’ll never get it all done so stop pretending you can.

I’m a coach remember? I”ve heard every excuse in the book, and I’ve said a few myself.

But what if you made the time to look and feel as good for yourself as you did for your dates?

Hmm. . .what might that look like???

1. Make time for yourself.

Grab your schedule, your iPhone, wall calendar, whatever, and book a date with yourself.

You know how you’d never blow off an appointment with your doctor, kid’s teacher or important client?

That’s how you want to be thinking of this date with yourself. You don’t have to know what the date will be just yet, because what you do on this date is much less important than your willingness to show up for it.

Set the date.

2. Get S.M.A.R.T. about your date setting.

How often have you made some vague plan in your mind about what you’ll do on the weekend?

Right. Vagueness begone!

It’s time to get SMART and strategic about how to make this happen!

Specific – What will you do on your date?

Measurable – How will you know your date’s been a success?

Achievable – What actions are required and can you make it happen?

Relevant – How will this date impact your life?

Timely – When will this date take place?

Imagine how great your dates will be when you have a plan for each of the points above.

Psst. . .works great in other areas of life too!

3. Follow through.

It’s time for a reality check.

What will have you keep this date with yourself?

accountability – tell a friend and you’ll be more likely to keep the date.

plan ahead – consider what you need: lunch with a friend, a spa date or a good chick flick

get support – tell your spouse, book a babysitter, etc.

Once you’re clear on what you need, it’ll be easier to stick to the structure you’ve set up for yourself.

The more you keep these dates with yourself, the more you’ll remember your value and the better you’ll feel in all areas of your life. Your commitment will support you in developing a juicy connection with yourself.

And who doesn’t want more of that?

Over to you:

What will your first date with you be like?

Homage = Respect or Reverence Paid

Self Care = Care for Oneself

Now, Sandi is a Passionate Coach, I am a Passionate Consultant.

Chances are you are focused and there for others. Giving of your time and energy. Giving is Good! I believe that we were made for that! To help each other along in this life. That said, if we are not taking care of ourselves… we are not good for helping others. We’ve heard it once, we’ve hear it a thousand times!

That is why this month of October we are Paying Homage to Self Care.

Sandi will be writing over at Deva Coaching and also posting over here!

Since we love doing things in community, and we know accountability Rocks we are going to spend this month on a Self Care Challenge!

At the end fo the month, Sandi will give away 3 coaching sessions to follow up on all the wonderful self care practices that we’ve begun to implement!

But that’s not all! The posts Sandi shares over here are graciously sponsored by those that are passionate about self care as well! You’ll have to stay tuned for those surprises

There are 3 Ways to Play, Participate and Win and we may just be generous with some bonus entry possibilities!

What if your first job in life was to feel good?

Wait. . .what?

I know. That’s what I thought too when I first heard that statement in a course I took many years ago. Back then I thought it sounded weird, woo-woo and more than a little selfish. I thought it meant I had to put myself above all others and if I did that how could I make a difference?

Fast forward 10 years, I now think it’s not only your job, but your duty to feel good because here’s the thing. . .

How can you help others if you are exhausted, resentful and burned out?

Meet Sara. Like you, she questioned this concept when it first came up in our work together.

A passionate career woman running a thriving business, she hired me seven months before giving birth to her first child. She’d been running at a pace that was leading her to serious burn out and she needed help. She had become so used to doing things on her own and bending over backwards for her clients, she had nothing left for herself. Some days, the resentment she felt was like molten lava beneath the smiling facade. Over time, her business and then her personal life began to pay the price. She knew something was wrong, but wasn’t quite sure where to look or how to start making changes. She also knew she had to find a solution before the baby came.

I’m pretty sure you can relate to some aspect of Sara’s story.

Here’s the thing so many entrepreneurs forget:

If you’re not loving yourself first, there’s not much love to give to your clients.

Sara had to practice better self care, both for herself and the business. She began by committing to what I call a “feel good” activity every day; one action, consciously chosen every morning. One action taken for the sole purpose of feeling good.

Simple. Not necessarily easy.

Sara was pretty far gone by the time she called me and she could hardly come up with 5 actions. But over time, her list of go-to “feel good” activities grew longer, and her energy and passion for her work returned.

Here are a few of mine:

• Lunch with a friend once a week
• A day of silence
• 24 hours unplugged
• A 20 minute walk in the middle of my work day
• A chat with someone I love
• Pedicures because who doesn’t like pretty toes!
• Singing in a long hot shower
• 2 hours with a good mystery
• A massage
• Date with myself

And before you tell me you can’t, it’s not in the budget, etc.

Do it anyway.

I didn’t say spend a fortune. Notice my list above includes actions that are low or no-cost and they are as important as any others! Your “feel good” activities don’t have to be difficult or complicated. They simply have to leave you feeling good.

Seriously, it’s not rocket science; it’s whatever feels good – for you!

After a couple of weeks, Sara noticed significant changes – more energy, more passion, more love for her clients, the same ones she’d been resenting. To be clear, things didn’t transform over night. Like any practice, she had to commit and do the work to make the changes she wanted in her life.

Result?

By the time her baby was born 6 months later, her business was back on track and prepared for her maternity leave, she’d acquired new contracts, her current clients were happy, and her staff was practicing a little self love themselves.

And Sara?

Was bursting with love in all areas of her life!

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman

Over to you:

• Come up with your own list of “feel good” activities.
• Experiment with 7 days of consciously planning one action of self care each day.
• Notice what comes up.
