what do you do to stay safe?

My husband works nightshift...and I cant sleep at all, because I am afraid of someone breaking in while I am sleeping or something. He says we dont need an alarm system or anything because we live in a really small town, and in a pretty much "safe" place...we have like maybe 4 break ins a year and it is almost always by teens, during the summer. I know it is me being paranoid, because I am also afriad of ghosts lol...but What are some ways besides locking doors and windows that I can do to feel more safe... We are looking for a dog. And I usually leave most of the lights on, but now he is complaning about the electirc bill going up ( it went up $2.....) ..I feel like I am going to make myself crazy and sleep deprived.

Can you use or would you use dryer lint as pillow stuffing?

My DD has a home ec class project that is about recycling. They want something "new". So she came up with the idea of using dryer lint to stuff throw pillows.

Its kind of clean, I mean after all you do wash the clothes before the lint gets into the trap. My biggest concern (being allergic to dust) would be fine particulates. But if she got those allergy reducing pillow cases or some sort of inner lining that this would be an issue. IS there any other reason you couldn't use the lint?

How Can I Make Them Understand?

I'm 25 and an adoptee. I've been in contact with my three older biological sisters for several years now. Two are full siblings, the oldest is a half sibling.

My parents were supportive of the reunion, until I started to call them sisters and allow my children to refer to them as their aunts. They keep telling me that they're not my sisters nor are they my childrens' aunts. They keep saying since I was adopted by them, that my sisters technically never existed and that I needed to remind my children that they are not aunts but merely biological strangers. I pretty much have stopped talking to my parents. It was fine and dandy until I started considering my sisters part of my family. I was raised an only child, so I was overjoyed to find out I had sisters. I love my family, both adoptive and biological, but how can I make my parents understand that it's up to me and not them?

Weird question of the day! How do you teach a kid to use scissors??

My son scares me to death every time I try to teach him how to use scissors. I guess I just don't know how to explain it to him! He starts kindergarden next fall and they said he has to know how by then so I need pointers! Where can you buy those scissors that have no blade that are just plastic only? I have looked everywhere and can't find any. Did they stop making them or something? All I kind find is what they call safety scissors but that just means it is a curved instead of pointy tip which can still cut off fingers! Eeek help!

Would you take this as rude??

I feel kinda bad for thinking about throwing something at an old lady, but...I was at Wally World earlier in the makeup/skin care aisle. This nice looking older lady was in a motorized cart, and a lady was with her. They were discussing whether or not Equate was good or not. I said, "yeah, some stuff is just the same," cuz I use some Equate brand skin care. She said, "Oh, I'll trust you, cuz you have such a pretty complexion." I have gotten that compliment before. I'm 29 and I take care of my skin. Always have. I use sunscreen, and I stay out of the sun. No tanning beds, anything like that. I said thank you then she said, "I guess you've been too scared to get those moles removed, though." I just said yeah and hurried away. I am very self conscious about moles on my face. I have "beauty marks" by my mouth that don't bother me, but I have a big mole by my hair line that I hate. WTF lady...make me feel like sh*t.

My 9 year-old daughter has just been diagnosed with a fractured vertebrae, has anyone been through this?

A few weeks ago my almost 10 year-old daughter began complaining of lower back pain. Not a constant pain or extremely painful, but it didn't go away. I thought she may have strained her back or it was growing pains but I finally took her in to the doctor. Her doctor immediately ordered an MRI and he called this week with the results saying that she has a small fracture in one of her vertebrae & referred me to an orthopedic doctor - our appt is still a couple weeks away. So of course I've been scouring the internet for information which is a little helpful & a lot scary. It is likely she will have to wear a back brace for a while. My daughter says she knows it happened at school when she was jump-roping, but I've seen it associated with trampolines - especially when 2 or more kids jump together. Has anyone else experienced this, if so, what happened? Thank you!

If you only had $5 to spend on each child what would you buy them and what would you do to make their day special?

I am a host mom for 5 kids in my childs school who are poverty level. They ask us to spend $5 on each kid aged 5-8. It is an anon donation. I'd like to do something nice and special but have no ideas in such a low price range. They make a big deal that it can't be more because they don't want to discourage parents who can only afford $5 to be discouraged from helping these kids at all.
