Linguistics

Over the past six months I have been fasinated by linguistics, mainly the Spanish and English language. I started studying Spanish Fall of 2008 and wasn't all that thrilled about the language. I did my homework assignments but I had no desire to actually learn the language. All that has now changed.

After being exposed to Spanish for three quarters at college I started to develop an appretiation for the language and that appretiation has turned into a love.

I have also been learning Esperanto with Chrystian (onlineannoyance). Mi ŝatas la lingvon. Esperanto is a great language to study just for the fun of it. Though there aren't very many people out there who speak it, it is a relatively easy language to learn and probably a good transition language for someone who is curious about exploring other languages.

Mi pensas ke la lingvon esperantan estas tre bela lingvo ĉar ĝi havas vortareton tre facila. Ĉu vi parolas esperanton, sentu liberan al paroli en laj forumoj.

Back in School

School has started up again and life is back to its slightly more predictable schedule. I hope that this change in schedule will bring me back to the other things I enjoy doing, such as working on the website and programming software. Currently I am figuring out the best method for me to program software for the iPhone. My main focus will probably be on Esperanto-English software for the time being.

Merry Christmas

I would like to wish everyone, on behalf of the CalebGo team, Merry Christmas. May God bless and remember the reason behind this celebration. Christ's greatest gift to us, His coming as a human to die for our sins.

The Ultimate Touch

After a few weeks of Christmas vacation I have already felt the need to pull out the programmer in me and get started working on this iPod Touch I have been carrying around with me for the past couple months. This thing is finally jailbroken and the joys of the OS is starting to pop out.
One feature I love with these devices is, once they are jailbroken, they support everything. It truly is amazing carrying around a complete pocket computer wherever I go.

Needless to say, my freetime has been filled making customizatipns to this thing, as well as hanging out with friends. Eventually O would like to see if it is possible to add Eaperanto support to the iPod Touch, but for now I am happy with just English and Spanish.

The next question I've been asking myself is, what do I do next? I'm looking for a way to develop cross-platform applications for Windows Mobile, Android, iPhone, and Brew. The only solutions I have come across so far have either been too buggy or too expensive. It seems like in today's cross-platform world there would be a lot of cross-platform tools out there.

Anyway, that is just a quick update on what is going on here, I hope all of you have a very marry Christmas and, as always, I hope to have more time in the future to devote to this site and this blog.

This is a test post from my iPod Touch to see if the new blog system on it is working. If this works I hope to be able to post a lot more updates as I tend to be on my iPod more than my laptop nowadays.

[Posted with iBlogger from my iPod touch]

So Long?

I would like to start this blog off with an explanation as to why the blog and site seem to be going so slow lately. First I would like to say that the site is not down, I have not given up on it! What has happened is this: school. I am in the final weeks of my quarter right now and I just haven’t had the time to keep this site as updated as I would like. I would love to be able to spend hours up here posting blog post after blog post, writing new interesting messages in the forums, but as of now I haven’t had the time.

Even with this lack of time, I am glad to say that I have still been able to do some behind the scenes work on the site (keeping it running is not quite as easy as uploading the code and letting it sit there) as well as moved my own operating system over to Windows 7.

I have also had many people comment to me about the language support of this site. Currently the site is available in English, Spanish, and Esperanto. I would like to have this truly be a trilingual site, but unfortunately the software I am using does not allow me to localize all of the content and I don’t feel like writing all of my blogs three times in three different languages. Please, if you notice any mistranslations let me know about them and I will fix them.

So, in conclusion, we have not died… we are just sitting here waiting for the admins to have more time on there plate to devote to this wonderful site :D

Misiistefoiro 2009

Missionsfest 2009

So yesterday evening kicked off Missionsfest 2009 with seminars from four to six-thirty, followed by David Wang speaking about Asian outreaches at seven. For those of you who do not know, Missionsfest Seattle is an event, started in 2005, that allows believers from all over the region and missionaries from all over the world to come together for an expo like event. Generally taking place on a Friday night and all day Saturday, it provides a place for people to attend seminars and speeches talking about what is going on in a certain ministry or just general things within the church. Also at Missionsfest, there is an exhibiters hall where various colleges and missionary groups have booths set up to tell people about their organisations.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend last night, being busy in the evening. I regret having missed Tom Hoyle's talk on UFOs, especially as it seems that it won't be repeated on Saturday. I am looking forward however to spending the day with some great friends, fellowshipping with believers from around the globe, who are focused on reaching out towards others for the Gospel of Christ.

If you are down at Missionsfest today, I look forward to potentially running into you. I plan on being down there from eleven in the morning, when the first seminars start, until at least six in the evening. We may possibly stay later if we are able to stay down there for Stuart Briscoe discussing the "Telling the Truth Ministries."

In unrelated news, even though I have recently started another quarter of college and am now dealing with the homework from classes on top of the rest of my schedule, I will attempt to keep up a pace of at least one blog entry per week from this point on... If classes begin to become too hectic, I will slow down and let you know of that, but for now that is my goal. Expect next weeks entry to be based on my opinion of the new Ipod Touch.

Grateful as always for comments,
Christyan

Misiistefoiro 2009

Dankegon,
Christyan

Worth $1500?

At some point in everyone’s life they do what’s called a vanity search. That is where you look up information about yourself or one of your projects. Well I have been doing such searches on this site. While doing my searches I found something really interesting. Did you know that according to Website Outlook this site is values at over $1500? I thought that was interesting… I don’t know how they calculate their numbers, but if the site really was worth that much it would be awesome!

So Google released there new Algorithm at http://www2.sandbox.google.com. They say it runs faster, and even though I thought it couldn't…. It really does run faster. They also say that the searching capabilities of it will be better.

Software Out Of Control

I recently purchased one of the new 64gb iPod Touches and had to check out the software store. After browsing around I took a look at one of my favorite pieces of software, Laridian PocketBible. I saw that they had a version out for the iPhone/iPod Touch so I quickly checked it out only to find that it hasn’t been approved by Apple yet. In fact, Apple had rejected their fist application for PocketBible to be available for iPhone/iPod Touch. Of course I knew going into my purchase of an iPod Touch that Apple approves/rejects all software for the platform, but I never had given thought to the loss of control this means to the user. This means that, once you buy your iPod, you are always subject to Apple’s whims and desires for your device. If they don’t want you running certain software on your iPod, they have the power to eliminate it. Obviously there is a good side to this coin as well. This means that the software is better tested, there is less chance of a security risk, and it is less likely for junky programs to make it through.

The main point that I’m trying to convey is that, like it or not, we are slowly starting to lose control of our software and hardware. More and more companies are taking this approach… They decide that they know best what software we should run with there hardware and they take away our ability to hack and mod the hardware to fit our particular needs.

The logical question to follow this is, is the lack of software control a good thing?
