Marcel Wave Tutorial.

Well my lovelies, you are in for a treat this morning. I have realised that you have seen many many photos of me and my locks and I haven't even shared with you how I achieve my styles. How mean am I?
To make up for it, here is what I hope is an easy tutorial for the Marcel Wave, which I know is a few ladies nemesis. When it's done well, it's one of my favourite styles! Here goes.....

Here is what you will need:

Like all styles, this will work better on day old hair. Here is my long fringe, this however will work on shorter fringes. It has been roughly blow dried as my hair tends to be quite frizzy. Take an oval section at the front starting from temple to temple. Fill up your spray bottle with cold water. You can mix a teeny bit of setting lotion in with the water if your hair is stubborn.

You will be splitting your section at the front into 4. Take your first section, spray, hold up and roll downwards following the arrow. Pin in place either using kirby grips or flat pin curl clips. If you are sleeping in your set, kirby grips would best.

Take your second section, spray, hold down and roll up, following the arrow and pin. Alternating the direction you roll your pin curls is what determines your marcel wave. Your third section you will be rolling the same way as you did on your first section.

All done!
The arrows show which direction in which the pincurls have been rolled.

I'm sleeping in my set, so it's on with a headscarf for the rest of my hair and I will see you all in the morning!

Once you have carefully taken out your pins, brush out the curls with a soft bristle brush. With a comb, push into your fringe and push towards your parting. You will start to see the wave appear. Once the wave is appearing, use your wave clips and 'grab' the wave. In other words, make sure the clip is grabbing the ridge that is appearing. Follow all the way down to the end of the section.
Leave the clips in place for 10 minutes, take out, then spray.

On the road...

The beauty of being a mobile Hair Stylist is that I am free to roam where my stocking-ed feet will drive me. You have all now been introduced to the Lucille's Locks mobile salon, all colour co-ordinated obviously!! It's pretty fun visiting different people's humble abodes, but it's an even better day when I can work in the surroundings of a Charity-come-Vintage shop.

One day last week I set up shop in a small corner with beautiful dressing tables, 50's cabinets and tea sets keeping me company- heaven knows how they didn't all come home with me!

I was there for the opening of Nottingham's newest go-to place for Vintage and Retro furniture; Sue Ryder. Most of my pieces at home were from another branch of Sue Ryder, so I fear I may be back sharpish. Unfortunately I was rather late enquiring about the baby pink hood dryer they had in the window....

The Mayor of Nottingham came to open the whole she-bang and expressed great interest in the 40s and 50s tea sets, a lady with great taste!

Hey Ladies, the salon is open!

Here are a few examples of some of the styles I created on the day. Well, I had to make sure the lovely staff had a 'do to match their lovely surroundings!

I couldn't leave without taking home a little something from my day, so here is me putting my 50's bowls to good use in the garden.

A Weekend in Havana.

I'm going to hold Carmen Miranda responsible for my fixation with Brazilian/Mexican/Spanish fillies. After all, Carmen was the Lady who introduced me to the world of dressing up. You see, I love a woman who can keep one entertained with an outfit without even having to open her mouth.

As I was adding the finishing flourishes to the days hairstyle, I found myself glancing over at the Pin Up I had stuck to my mirror. I studied the sequins stitched to the frills of her dress, the elaborate floral earrings and the roses that complimented her dark curls. I couldn't help but feel inspired to dress like a Señorita for the weekend.

Sequinned bull fighter circle skirt and green carved wedges. The perfect ensemble for sipping Margaritas on the patio. I'm in the mood for making Burritos....

I sewed pom poms onto my black gypsy style dress and wore loosely off my shoulder, clipped on earrings a flamenco dancer would be proud of and sat within the flowers.

A weekend in Havana was so very enjoyable, I shall return very soon!

Our Striped Summer.

Y'all know that I Inka is usually accessorised to match whatever ensemble I have on, even to go to the shops! But on a sunny day last week, I went a step further and accessorised my boyfriend to match my outfit. Now, I would love to say that this happens on a regular basis, but you don't wanna see me wearing a plaid shirt and black slacks do you?! I can't wait for the day he gets round to ordering some Freddies of Pinewood dungarees so we can mooch around and be denim buddies!

Pink Lady.

My regular Lucille's Locks clients have been well aware of my growing obsession for a while. With each appointment they see a new piece of kit upgraded in shade 'cotton candy'. And if I can't find it in pink, I'll opt for second best; leopard print. After whipping out my shiny new leopard print clippers, I looked down to the pinny where I keep my scissors and had an thought. 'Oh dear, this apron is black. Not pink'. I knew exactly what needed to be done, I caved and sent BooBoo Kitty Couture a message with strict instructions regarding work uniform. Basically the message just contained three words;

1. Pink 2. Leopard Print 3. Pinny.

And god damn, the girl delivered. A dream in cotton form, with added pockets.

From then on I was determined to take my colour scheme to the next level. Clients loved it when I slipped on my apron, gowned them up in my leopard print cape and cut, styled, dried their locks with various pink tools. I was on a roll, housing everything in the Queen of trollies.

Welcome to the Lucille's Locks mobile! She has been on the road for a while now, serving the good women (and men) of the midlands on a day to day basis. Please note, I did put in plenty of time searching for a leopard print car to match. Alas I settled for bubblegum blue.

The pink thing has even subconsciously filtered through into my appointments. My days consist of mixing various shades of pink, cerise, lilac in my baby pink bowls. All these colours look good enough to eat!
Take a peek at the ladies I have turned into candyfloss over the last few weeks. I'm blessed to have clients who have been taken over by the same pink thing as I have!

A personal favourite from my old photograph collection, Bill. I was with my boyfriend when I bought this Soldier, who screwed up his face at the thought of bringing a stranger back home. I couldn't think of anyone better to bring into my house, he'd be no trouble sat on a shelf next to the others. At least he has a name, kindly written on the back!

But wait, someone has taken a fancy to my Bill......

Back where he belongs, he can watch me set my hair and apply my lipstick.

The top image totally influenced by Nurse Jenny Lee' outfit worn to a jazz club in the last episode of Call the Midwife. I curled my hair up into a faux bob and added a plastic dog brooch to match the pooch sat on the chair next to me!

"For pity sake Jenny stop pulling your sweater down, people will think you've had some sort of accident"

I know at some point this programme would have been referenced to on any self respected Vintage Lifestyle/Fashion blog, but how can we help it? Mid century fans can get their fashion fix, from Jenny in her cardigan & full skirt combinations or Trixies black femme fatale ensembles. All from the comfort of a Sunday night sat in pincurls.

The second outfit is inspired by the birth of my new colour obsession. And I mean obsession. I've replaced my whole kit bag with pink tint bowls, brushes, hairdryers, combs, clips, gowns and even my Lucille's Locks mobile has been transformed with bubblegum pink vinyl graphics, but that is another blogpost.

But any item of clothing that matches my pink flashes makes me squeal inside and are instantly purchased.

If you read my latest interview by Katy of the glorious Vintage Wife Blog you would know that Inka was being taken to have her portrait snapped for her birthday. If you hadn't read it, I have just spoilt the surprise.
But go read!

Luna Photography is founded by fellow friend, client and Photographer. She is used to working with big named Pin Ups such as Franki Wilde, Anna Fur Laxis, Havanna Hurricane and Missy Malone, but with her love of cute canines she opened the doors of her studio to offer a bespoke portrait service for our beloved four legged friends.

We had fun trotting trough town, armed with Inka's favourite scarves and her favourite poses ready to bust out infront of the camera. This was us post shoot, I let Inka ride on my lap all the way home which was naughty but I just couldn't help it.

So I guess you want to see the finished snaps?

She was so well behaved. I don't know if it was Emma's excellent way she is dogs, or if she was just showing off.

Sea of Love.

We all need a trip to the sea. I go pretty often as that is where my Sailor boyfriend lives. ( He's not actually a Sailor).

But this time it was different, as we had the keys to our very own Cottage by the Sea. We lived next to the fire, next to the sea and best of all, next to each other.

As it turned out, we did far more outdoor element braving activities than I had planned for. I had packed for posing next to the sea, not for hiking alongside it. Although I never dress like it, I love spending time outdoors in physical activities. I refused to give in to 'practical' and my Bettie Page dress & I conquered the 60mph Sheringham winds. My ass froze, my Keds gave me mega blisters but my faux bangs stayed in and I came out the otherside without resorting to the waterproof trousers and was rewarded Fish and Chips at the end of it all.

Our Roles soon became established...

Ode to Olly

So far I've revealed the creative sorts I surround myself with, including two family members. Well it seems I have left someone out. A certain someone who has been yearning to appear on Call Me Lucille ever since it started. It has sort of become a running joke about the fact that I have never featured or mentioned them on here, something my Brother is very upset about. Instead of ~~spoiling this post~~ posting a photo of his mush, I will show you what he can do with an Apple Mac and a few images supplied by my Lucille's Locks work.

A few weeks back I was asked by a friend to answer a few interview questions. I've never been interviewed before, so I wanted to wait until I had a spare hour to snuggle down with Inka and put my mind to it. Anyway it turns out that my friend is also the owner of the BooBoo Kitty Couture Blog. Alongside her usual posts of hand made & hand designed dresses in fabrics to die for, she has started running a 'Meet my friends' feature. It is pretty darn interesting read actually as Aislinn has a bucketful of beautiful, talented and creative friends. Every week she showcases someone new, who speak of things FAR more interesting than who Harry Styles has recently snogged or what Kerry Katona has eaten for dinner that night....

So, if you a feeling a little nosey, here is what I had to say for myself;

On Sunday I interviewed Eliza Delite. Now i would like you to meet Lucille from Call Me Lucille blog. I started reading her blog a few years ago. Then it dawned on me that she was also from Nottingham! Then i spotted her in a pub and introduced myself like some crazed fan girl. Now we have been involved in countless fashion shows, vintage events, photoshoots and i class her as one of my friends! Funny how things work out!

Whenever i think of Lucille i want to start singing Little Richards, Lucille, so please play it in the back ground when you read this! One of these days i will serenade her with my singing... maybe after a gin or two!

What is your favourite vintage dress or outfit?

I have a black and white skirt which splits up the front to reveal their own black and white polkadot shorts sewn in. Its my ultimate favourite and I love wearing it with cropped 50s sun tops and my pink original sun shades. When its colder my favourite thing to wear are my highwaisted 1940s pinafore swing pants. I do my hair similar to how the ladies wore theirs in the military, I feel extremely feminine. Basically, if it has a high waist, is really old and will make me look like I'm from the war....it's mine.

What inspired you to dress vintage?

I remember when I first saw a Pin Up girl on a 1950s advert and I thinking "I want to look like that". At the time I had a boyfriend who was a bigtime mod who thought he was Paul Weller. I googled old 50s magazines such as Wink, Beauty Parade and Titter and the clothes in my wardrobe slowly got replaced by high waisted capri pants, little 1940s blouses and bullet bras. My hair routines and styles regressed 60 years and my make make up also. Following Dita's footsteps I got a beauty mark tattooed on my cheekbone, and never left the house without rouge lips. As my style developed and my preference for circle skirts over mini skirts grew I was getting left at home drooling over Dior's "New Look" collections whilst he was at Northern Soul nights. Needless to say that that relationship didn't last. Rockers rule over the Mods!!

What was your first vintage purchase?

I first discovered second hand shopping when I was 16. Back then there was so much more of everything and I bought anything I could get my mitts on - I was like a fat kind in a sweet shop. Nottingham had lots of dingy backstreet Vintage shops that I spent my Saturdays in, sadly nearly all of them don't exist anymore. When I wasn't frequenting my favourite alleyways I was on Ebay. That's where my obsession really took off. I purchased some pretty grotesque garments and my first purchase were some mustard 1960s shoes from Camden market. The only reason I remember them so well was because of how hideous they were. Every single one of my friends told me they were vile, but I loved 'em. A month later I ebayed them!!

Silver screen goddesses are a big inspiration for me, do you have any icon of the past?

I can draw inspiration from pretty much every lady from the 1920s-1950s. There's something about anything pre 1960 that I find aesthetically pleasing. I find the Wartime fashion very interesting and I have great respect and envy of the Land Girls. However they managed to carry on working so hard and looking so damn good is what inspires me to make a daily effort. My fashion idols include woman of the past and present; Diana Dors, Beyonce, Betty Grable, Immodesty Blaize, Wanda Jackson, Carmen Miranda, Paloma Faith, Gypsy Rose Lee, Lulu Guiness, Scarlett Johansson and of course Dita Von Teese. All hail Dita!! I must also add that I am in awe of Drag Queens like RuPaul. That whole look, demeanour and attitude is bloody marvellous.

Do you dress vintage every day?

I prefer to describe it as 'dressing up' rather than dressing vintage. I've been doing it so long, that it has become a lifestyle, and to me I class it as 'normal daywear'. I still get confused when people point at me in the street or approach me for a photograph. ( which happens surprisingly a lot- to my boyfriends annoyance. I however think it's lovely )Its not until I remember that I'm wearing clothes that are over 60 years old and my hair is in pin curls and a headscarf that I realise, "oh yeah, maybe I do stand out from people around me." Some people probably think that I am dressing this way for an act, or to draw attention to myself. I simply do not feel comfortable in modern dress. As strange as it sounds, I would feel very self conscious without my usual old fashioned clobber on. My friends always laugh over the fact of me turning up to a social event in leggings and a hoody with my hair in a messy ponytail. You wait girls, one day I will surprise you!

Favourite music at the moment?

Although my dress sense is stuck in a time warp, my music tastes are slightly more modernised. I found a spotify playlist off an old friend named 'Girls'. It's full of songs by Destinys Child, Missy Elliot, Mary J Blige, Kelis and TLC. I love it, and play it when I am getting changed in the morning. Being self employed I need stimulation in the mornings and Girl power is enough to get me bumpin' and grindin' around my bedroom!!

I'm also sucker for country music, anything folky will make its way onto my spotify. Willy Mason's new album 'Carry On' is on repeat and so is Haim's ep at the moment. Since Christmas my boyfriend and I have had the 'Blue 'Hawaii' album by Elvis playing constantly whenever we are together- the movie and it's soundtrack has become a Christmas tradition for us. I have all the old classics such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Wanda Jackson and The Drifters on vinyl like to listen to them on Sunday evenings.

Your photography is pretty good on your blog, do you have any tips? Who takes your photos?

All photography on my blog is taken on my digital SLR. Inka who appears on my blog regularly has been trained to pose from a very young age and has pretty much perfected the art!! What you may not know is all my photos are taken by 'self timer', which is as tricky as you can imagine!! I've had a few incidents where my Dad has walked in on me pulling my best pin up pose. Slightly embarrassing and it distracts the fur ball!!

If you want your blog to appear friendly on the eye, I suggest using good quality photographs as opposed to mobile uploads. Always preview your posts before posting. Step back and think 'Is this something I would want to read myself?'

Grey, Green & Candyfloss Pink.

As well as being blessed with a creative Grandma who knits for me pretty much on demand (I'm going to set up a Call me Lucille sweat shop!!) I am also lucky to have a Mum who can knock up a dress at the click of a finger.

This particular dress took some last minute alterations, arguing over the colour of the material/buttons/piping and a spot of moonlight sewing. All to be ready for Christmas day!

I think it's pretty special, especially as I got to see it start off from scraps of material, to a full blown 1940's number. Thanks Mum!

We sourced the buttons from USA, and finally came to an agreement on Grey & Green.

Inka was at my feet the whole time I was posing. If any of you have read my interview with BooBoo Kitty Couture, you will know that all my photos are taken on a 'self timer'. (For those of you that haven't read it, I will repost as my next entry.) As soon as she hears the three countdown beeps, she's there, with her best face on.

Calendar Girls

New Year, new calendar. That's usually how it works. Although I haven't actually had a calendar for god knows how long,

But this year I have a very good reason to buy one. I have never been more excited by one before.

My yearly planner wasn't coming from any old shop, it was coming directly from a bunch of people I had worked hard with over one Sunday afternoon back in September. It was all shot in Sainsburys and everyone was fantastic. So of course, when hanging it in between Marilyn & her framed friends I did feel proud.

I've selected a handful of my favourite hairstyles I created that morning.

Backstage shot. I was definitely in the 'zone' at this moment. Inbetween hairsprays, I was able to find out a little more about the First Steps Charity. They offer support to people of all ages with any type of eating difficulty or disorder and most of the models were volunteers from the Charity!

Pulling the wool over my eyes.

Can you remember that top I have been waiting for to go with that skirt?

Well Christmas came and went in a flurry of wine guzzling during the day and Scrabble during the evenings, bringing me more than I was ever hoping for.

Maybe Santa thought I had been working hard this year??!

Anyway I had to wait until lunchtime to unwrap my knitted gifts. Indeed my Grandma/Curator was more excited for me to unleash my magnificant mustard jumper than I was!

Take a look at what I have on my feet. I thought I could only dream of these boots. But much to my utter glee, my Mum bought me these for Christmas.

A chunky 1940's heel in brown leather with a leopard fur trim?? I'm telling you, Miss L Fire has some sort of mind reading power.

My little foxy fella from Tatty Devine got woken from his slumber deep inside my jewellery box. He's been in there pretty much since I got him last Christmas.

Mustard on mustard, have you cottoned on I'm in love with the colour mustard?

Playing swapsies.

Being an independent women, ( I've always wanted to be one of those ever since I first heard of Destiny's Child) in business, it's been great befriending other sisters who are doing it for themselves. Okay, I'm going to stop quoting lyrics.

But seriously, it's wonderful to surround yourself with talented people, because you can do swapsies! Much better than the playground ones, our swapsies involve very important handmade things!

My first of hopefully many swapsies with BooBoo Kitty Couture went very well indeed.

Let me show you what I got out of our little deal.....

I can tell you, it feels very special wearing something made specifically for you, there's an added excitement everytime you imagine somebody sitting down and creating your beautiful garment from scratch. Considiring that my skirt started out life as....ssshhh....a table cloth! Boo Boo you genius!

Catching a glimpse of gold in her studio, Boo Boo Kitty showed me the gown that she would be wearing that evening to a Festive party. She needed me to make her hair as marvellous as her outfit. Handmade by herself I may add!

I was in my element creating this Beehive for her. It's proved a very popular style on my instagram and Lucille's Locks page!

Miss Santa.

Of course you have to wear a red Christmas dress when decorating your Christmas tree. It's a new tradition I thought up. Good eh??

Inka wore a white bow, she's saving her Santa hat for closer to the day. Which I'm quite glad as she would have taken the attention off of me and my new Red Heartbreaker dress. I was going to go all out and cuff the sleeves with the same white fur as my headband, Mrs.Santa Claus stylee. But I got told to wear a brooch with it instead. So I did. A fur one....I like fur ok!!

Inka's favourite toy is finally seasonal! She carries this around with her all year, even if it is sunny outside.

Let's get back to the task in hand.

Whilst working on one of my favourite posts to create and probably one of your favourite posts to read; an outfit post, I thought I'd better share with you my work over the last few months. I don't really post my work on here, I usually save that for my instagram account. Instagram is an extension of the Cal Me Lucille blog, so you should come join me on there! I have recently popped a link to my account on the right hand side of my blog.
Now then, onto the second most love of mine after dresses, HAIR. Enjoy!

Who dropped the Flowerbomb?

I had spent the last few days on the East Coast visiting my boyfriend and partaking in the usual seaside fish & chip activities. On my return I found Inka sat at my dressing table next to a recent competition win from my new favourite company. A bottle of "Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf". She was eager I thanked the company and told you a little about them. (And photographed her, obviously) She had her mean face on her and can be quite forceful at times.

"Open it! Open it!"

'LittleBig' are the people I need to thank for my fragrance win. An online company offering what every anything your makeup bag desires, all at and I quote, "big brands, little prices". All competitions, new items and latest news conveniently pop up on your facebook newsfeed once you've given 'em a like.

Your make up bag need never be empty ever again.

I entered one of their Facebook competitions, came up trumps and days later Inka was barking at the postman and his LittleBig parcel.

Competitions are posted pretty frequently, I plan on entering them all - in my opinion, a girl's dressing table can never be too full. And if I don't win any of them, I'm spending all my Christmas money there!

Head Scarf Tutorial with BooBoo Kitty Couture.

I know y'all love your tutorials, especially when they are to do with hair.

Whenever I wear my headscarfs out and about I get handfuls of compliments. Nobody knows that the headscarf is covering up a multiple of sins. Dirty hair being one of them!

My headscarf of choice is a handmade one by Boo Boo Kitty Couture. Made from thick cotton, they stay in place without slippin' and a slidin'.

So with the help of BBKC, I am going to show you how to wear yours, even better than Rosie the Riveter.

Here's what you will need;

Firstly take a semi-circle shaped section of hair from the front and clip it out of the way. This will be used later to create interest and an authentic look.

Start to pile your hair up on top of your head and pin in place. If your hair has been pincurled or tonged (mine has) the curls will sit nicely on your head. If not, they might need some re-arranging once pinned. Make sure that the hair is pulled quite high up towards the back. This will help create the right shape and you won't be left with a hair bump sticking out the back of your head!

Now take your handmade (with love) Boo Boo Kitty headscarf in your hands and we shall begin.

Hold each end and place at the bottom of your head. Pull tight as you wrap the scarf round your head, over your ears and behind your sectioned piece of hair. Finish with a simple knot.

Secure either side with bobby pins.

Now, we can't leave that like that can we?

Grab your pintail comb and hairspray and I will show you some variations of what you can do with your front section of hair....

1. Faux bangs, created with a 'hair sausage' simply by cutting a hair doughnut and creating the perfect tube shape.

2. A great style for when your hair has been freshly pin curled, and so easy to do...just grab and grip!

3. Mini Victory rolls. Add as many as you like!

4. No-one can go wrong with the classic quiff. The bigger the better!

Wait, is that another BBKC headscarf??!!

What you might not know is that each headscarf is reversible. More bang for your buck girls, each scarf is a mere £6.

Otto Urban Poncho Review.

So, you know that Nottingham Classic Bike Ride I attended? I have finally (sorry it took a while Otto and Julien!) gotten round to photographing my prize for the best dressed lady.

Until this bike ride I had never even contemplated wearing anything sensible to cycle. Heaven above! You should all know by now that I don't do practical. Only because I find waterproof jackets the most repulsive pieces of clothing ever. So when I went online to claim my booty, I was introduced to a range of fashionable waterproofs I never knew existed before!

Otto London are a company specialising in making Ladies and Gents look dapper on their cycles. I chose a light grey from their 'Urban' range. I did find myself considering a custom made poncho, where you have the option to add a Cashmere or Wool Lining. Just imagine, tartan. On a bike!!

The best thing I discovered about the poncho (discovered during posing) is the straps underneath the poncho, cleverly designed to fit through your handlebars, spreading the poncho over your knees and your vintage cycle. And more importantly, it has a hood, that has passed the 'staying up whilst cycling test'!

I will never freeze, be soggy, or resemble a drowned rat upon my Brooks saddle ever again now Otto is in my life!

Dog Days.

Inka is the perfect posing prop. She can make ANY photo into something you stop and look at. But for her hard work shooting for Call Me Lucille, she needs rewarding with her favourite place. Elvaston Castle.

Who knew our walk would turn into a photo shoot itself?

She just cannot help herself, I'm sure she thinks she is the Queen.

You can't see as I have cleverly cropped it out, but in the above shot Inka had her head in my handbag.

Grandma to the rescue!

I have a love/hate relationship with ebay. The trouble is, 'Vintage' has,well, become rather mainstream and sellers are cashing in on adding that 7 letter word onto any old listing, to try and gain themselves a few extra bucks. As well as making them look stooooopid, it makes it awfully hard for us hardcore Vintage guys and gals to find authentic items. We have to spend hours trawling through hundreds of the same highstreet items claiming they are "Vintage."

One of my favourite things that has come outta Facebook are Vintage Clothing groups. I am a member of 2 private Vintage auction sites on facebook. Only serious Vintage sellers and buyers from around the globe are allowed and all items are genuine. Sounds snobby, but I don't care, as I recently purchased this wool and felt winter skirt from Germany!

If you haven't joined any of these sites on facebook, I strongly recommend you do, there are lots to join!

Now, the reason that this skirt is bedroom bound and the fact I am topless so to speak is a very good reason. I do not have an upper garment to match the skirt perfectly. Matching items of clothing and accessories perfectly is one of the major dilemmas in my life. Along with protecting my hair from damp atmospheres and refraining from spending all my money on Alfred Shaheen designs...

But back to the top. There is a perfect one on it's way to me. A mustard 1940's pussy bow jumper is being knitted as we speak, or as soon as my Grandma/Personal Knitter returns from her holidays. I have a growing collection of hers which I love. Birthday and Christmases all include a handmade knit of hers!

I had to include the felt details. The bumblebee is my favourite, clothes and animals combined is a huge bonus. I'm growing my own zoo wardrobe!

The Nottingham Classic Bike Ride

As you may, or may not know I am what you call a 'fairweather cyclist'. I'm not into serious pedalling, panting or perspiration. And I'm definitely not into wearing Lycra on my 1959 Raleigh. That all said, I still LOVE cycling. Y'know, just the showing off kind where you don't ruin your hair.

So when I heard of the Nottingham Classic Ride, I knew I had to fetch Marlene from the shed and take her out. Pretty much the same concept of the Tweed Run held in London, yet we took a more scenic route. Stopping for tea at Wollaton Hall and ending up Lindyhopping to live music infront of Highfields Lake.

There was talk of taking our 4 legged friends along with us to enjoy the ride safe in our wicker baskets, but I fear little Inka would have not sat still for 10 whole miles!!

As on any casual cycle, there were many stops. Well, we didn't want to get into a sweat and ruin our hair!

Marlene made lots of new friends. Infact, I realised how dirty she had gotten. All the shiny bikes were rather showing us up!

I bagged the prize for best dressed female. There will be a blog post in honour of my prize......

And look, we even made the Nottingham Evening Post....twice.

It's a shame I couldn't have thought of something slightly better to say about Vintage cycles and the bike ride in general. I didn't know my word were going down in ink!

I'm back!

As you have probably noticed, I have taken a short break from Call Me Lucille. It wasn't intentional and I have missed being here. I have been focusing on my work. For those who don't know, I am a mobile hairdresser specialising in hair for special occasions.

I have so much to show and tell you all. Sometimes it's good to take a break, as on your return you are brimming with things to share with good people!

I have still been representing glamour and have a gathered together quite a good selection of photographs to keep you satisfied for a while.

The first bunch are from the North Norfolk Railway Annual 1940's weekend I attend a couple of weekends ago.

It was amazing to see the event so busy, Vintage is at it's most popular as we all know and this year was not a disappointment. Infact, I spotted some of the best ensembles to date!

I bumped into a photographer I met at the event last year did some posing for him again!

I usually attend this event with a whole gaggle of girls, but alas their seamed stockings stayed h. It was quite sad to be without them, we usually cause a stir with the photographers. But I wasn't completely alone. I was accompanied by a handsome G.I Joe for the day i.e my boyfriend, so I wasn't complaining!

I couldn't stay for the evening dancing and singing on the platform as I had to leave for home to be back in time to work on a Calendar photoshoot. But that is another blogpost saved for another day......

It's good to be back!
