This photo comes from my first roll of 120 film. Shot with Bronica SQ-Ai and Zenzanon 50mm F/3.5 PS standing on a fence post and with mirror lock-up for extra steadiness, at f/18 and 1/15s. Film - Fuji Reala. Here I used ND2 and 81B Cokin filters. Taken in Carpathians near Yaremcha.
Bronica SQ-Ai is a modular medium (6x6cm square) format SLR camera with an electronically controlled leaf shutter.

Decided to interrupt a row of black and white photos with this one from Nepal. Among all the places for mountain viewing in the Kathmandu Valley, Nagarkot is usually considered to be the best. The views go from Dhaulagir in the west to Kanchenjunga in the east. On a clear day you can see Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha). You can also see Manaslu (8,463m), Ganesh Himal (7,111m), and Langtang (7,246m). Many people go up to Nagarkot in the afternoon, stay in a hotel in Nagarkot, and then get up at dawn to see the Himalaya during the sunrise.

Weather did allow me to do that: the night was stormy and the wind was howling with pain around hotel. Storm quietened down late in the morning and then I managed to take this photo from the lookout tower on the top of Nagarkot hill. Funny thing is that Nagarkot hill has no official name in Nepal: they do not consider it a real mountain though with its elevation of 2,195 meters it's still higher than anything in Ukraine :)

Unintentional multiexposure shot

The film winding motor of my F100 failed to wind the film once so I got one images superimposed onto another. I find its look funny but not void of charm. I should have made a nice frame with diffused edges, but I am too lazy when it comes to frames ;)

Nikon F100, Tokina 12-24, Fuji Neopan 400, желтый фильтр. Советую смотреть больший вариант не столько из-за размера, сколько из-за деталей и контраста, на маленькой превьюшке компрессия их просто съедает. Вообще мне больше нравятся мои пленочные кадры, но не хватает солнца - стоит куда-то выбраться, и тут же портится погода. Львов, 20 мая.

On the old road that travels from Gyantse to Lhasa, dazzling Yamdrok-tso is normally first seen from the summit of Kamba-la (4794m). The lake lies several hundred meters below the road, and in clear weather is a fabulous shade of deep turquoise. Far in the distance is the huge massif of Mt Nojin Kangtsang (7191m).
Yamdrok-tso is a coiling, many-armed body of water shaped like a scorpion. It doubles back on itself on the western side, effectively creating a large island within its reaches. For Tibetans, it is one of the four holy lakes of Tibet (the others are Lhamo La-tso, Nam-tso and Manasarovar), home to wrathful deities, and devout Tibetan piligrims circumambulate the lake, a walk of around seven days.

Recently several customers have started to complain that Cisco calling card script version 2.0.2.8 with our patches had started to fail occasionally since Jan 10 right after entering destination number. Little investigation led to surprising results.
Script computes a random value depending on the total elapsed time in seconds from an epoch by using "clock seconds" command. Relevant part of the whole complex expression is this:
expr [string range [clock seconds] 2 [string length [clock seconds]]]
Note that first two digits are stripped off for whatever reason. I questioned myself what is that had changed between Jan 10 and Jan 11. Voila:

% clock scan "Thu Jan 10 23:20:00 EET 2008"

Since there is 00 in the result, "expr" considers number as an octal, which in not quite true: "clock seconds" can return 8 and 9. So the whole script thing fails every time that "clock seconds" returns 8 or 9 :-)

"Commissioned by a Gyantse prince in 1427, the Gyantse Kumbum is the town's foremost attraction. The chorten is packed with some exquisite Tibetan mural paintings and rises 35m over four floors surmounted by a gold dome. The dome rises like a crown over fours sets of eyes that glaze serenely out in the direction of cardinal points. As you climb upwards through the chapels of the kumbum you are drawn through progressively higher levels on the Tantric path.

A clockwise route leads murmuring piligrims up through the six floors, taking in the 77 chapels that line the walls.
