McCartney Hagar will be starting first grade this fall and is so excited to be starting to school. Before school begins, she decided to visit Camp ASCCA, and everyone here is so glad she did! Although McCartney was a little nervous on her first day, she says that she has had a ball! Alex Moses says he was also a little nervous on check-in day, but he describes his time here at Camp ASCCA as “awesome!” He has taken full advantage of the many outdoor adventure activities that Camp ASCCA has to offer, and says they are his favorite activities.

Both of these kids, along with all the new campers, have been a joy to have at camp this week. With their bright and adventurous personalities, they have made strong impressions on everyone! Much to our delight, they promise that they do plan to return to Camp ASCCA next year, and we look forward to seeing them again!

Dr. Paige met the campers today, then followed them through the activity areas. He visited the Camp ASCCA Golf & Yacht Club for some putt-putt and then off to dinner. After our evening meal, the campers then head out to the Talent Show!

Dr. Paige’s interest in helping find and fund more children and adults for these camp visits is greatly appreciated. Further, his leadership will help us find and reach so many more parents and their children.

Years ago, as a camper, Allison did not have the choice of Tubing as a recreation option. The tubing program started in the late 1980s.

So, in that spirit of “eats our own dog food” - meaning that we use the programs we offer - Allison decides to tackle one more new first in life. She hits the lake with our Aquatics Team.

Today’s activity serves as a reminder, too. It takes a lot of people to pull off our programming every day. Here’s just one such example. Watch the video …

Counselors and program staff enjoyed a cookout and fun putt-putt tourney during the week. Hey, we had to get them use to all the program areas, right? ;o) So, why not have a little fun, too.

Fun, is - after all - what we’re all about. Sure, we do therapeutic recreation. We’re a very specialized disability camp for children and adults … and safety is always word one (and two, three….) … but, we do know to have a fun party, too!

So, the campers will rest assured that they have a well trained staff majoring in fun. Check out the video …

When Jessica Thorton first came to camp back when she was only 6 years old, she knew then that she wanted to one day be a counselor. Well, this is Jessica’s 13th summer at Camp ASCCA and she said it gets better every year. Being a CIT (counselor in training) the past few years, this is Jessica’s first summer being a counselor. When asked why she keeps coming back, she said the the excitement and fun the campers bring just make it all worth while.

Moving up to a counselor comes with added responsibilities, but we feel sure that Jessica will have no problems taking on the added duty. You can watch a video interview with Jessica below!
